Nightmares

It was a week after Robin met Barbara's father Jim. It was nighttime at the Gotham Clocktower, and Barbara was on the computer as Oracle, helping Batman and the Birds of Prey. Robin was keeping her company and noticed that she was getting tired. She yawned in the earpiece microphone. "You okay babe?" Robin asked. "Yeah... just getting sleepy is all..." Barbara said tiredly. Batman said on the radio, "get some sleep, Oracle. I've managed to capture Riddler anyway. You've earned the rest."

"I gotta agree with Bats." Dinah replied, "it's okay, we'll handle the rest. Especially Tyler." Barbara nodded and yawned, "alright guys, good night. This is Oracle signing off." Robin rolled Barbara's wheelchair and said, "come on Babs, let's get you to bed." Although Barbara was slightly annoyed that Robin was pushing her wheelchair, given that she was the type of woman who did not like being pushed around, she appreciated Robin's kind gesture nonetheless. "Would you be willing to sleep with me, Rob?" Barbara asked as she placed her glasses near the shelf where she kept all her clothes. Robin blushed and shyly said, "golly Barbara... I've never slept with a woman before..." Barbara smiled and playfully said, "there's a first for everything." She scratched Robin's ears. "I guess I could try it with you," said Robin as he took off his cap, "just give me a moment to get into my PJs..." Before Barbara could say anything, Robin then dove inside his Acme cap, completely disappearing! "Wait, you're inside the cap?" Barbara asked, "oh right, you're a toon. Who am I to question cartoon logic?" Robin's head popped out of the cap like a rabbit popping out of a magician's hat as he said, "it's Acme, babe. Really roomy in this cap. I could even fit a hoagie inside here. Plus, while I change, it'll give you some privacy." Robin winked at her as his head went back inside the Acme cap. Barbara giggled as she saw the Acme cap bounce around. She then changed into her pajamas. Soon Robin came out of his cap, wearing a t-shirt of The Mask, and Tom & Jerry pajama bottoms. "Like what you see?" Robin teased. "Certainly," replied Barbara. Once they brushed their teeth, Robin and Barbara got into her bed, the redhead tucking them both in with the blankets. "Night Barbara. I love you," yawned Robin. "I love you too Robin. Good night," yawned Barbara, and the two lovers fell asleep. For many hours, Robin and Barbara slept together. Robin found it unusual sleeping with a woman, but it felt nice sleeping with Barbara. He was as snug as a bug. As Barbara slept, she was now experiencing a repressed memory in the form of a nightmare. Whilst her body was paralyzed, she was sweating like mad. As Robin slept and snoozed, he didn't think much about the sweat. He continued to snooze. What he didn't know was that in Barbara's nightmare, The Joker was cackling as he shot and crippled Barbara. Joker laughed maniacally as he was ready to violate Barbara in such an unspeakable manner!

Barbara let out a scream, just like the night she was shot and Joker took pictures of her crippled and bleeding body. She was reliving the repressed memory that she swore she would never think about again. Robin bolted awake as he looked around, scared and confused. "What's going on?" he groggily asked. He then saw Barbara screaming bloody murder. He knew how she ended up in a wheelchair, which made him sad. "Barbara?" Robin said, "Barbara! Wake up! You're having a nightmare!" He shook her, hoping it would wake her up. Barbara then woke up, letting out another scream. She was panting heavily, sweat on her forehead and tears in her eyes. Barbara saw Robin and hugged him tightly. Robin hugged Barbara back, stroking her hair. "Hey, you okay?" Robin asked, "I heard you screaming..." He continued to stroke her hair and hug her. Barbara started to calm down under Robin's touch. "He... He... He was there. The night I got-" she couldn't even finish the sentence before a sob escaped her lips. Robin continued to hold Barbara in his arms, hugging her and rocking her back and forth. "It's okay Barbara..." Robin softly said, "I know you're scared... I'm here now...." He kissed her cheek. Barbara eventually soothed down in Robin's arms. She rested her head on his shoulder. "Don't let him hurt me, please..." she whispered to him. "I won't let him," promised Robin, "I'd rather get dipped than let him hurt you. Although the likelihood of Joker getting acetone, turpentine, and benzene is very low since a certain company owns the rights to that thing." He continued to rock her back and forth, occasionally kissing her. Under his soothing touch, Barbara became sleepy. "You're the best," she yawned before truly drifting to sleep. "I know," said Robin, "and I love you, Barbara Gordon." He then laid on top of Barbara, cuddling on top of her while falling asleep. When Barbara woke up in the morning, she felt safe. It was the first time that she felt safe after one of her nightmares. She smiled when she saw Robin cuddling on top of her. A couple minutes later, Robin stirred and yawned, waking up. He looked up at Barbara and said, "morning Babs. Did you sleep better?" Barbara nodded her head. "Yeah, I slept better after the nightmare. Thanks to you," she thanked him, kissing his cheek. "I'm glad," said Robin as he smiled and kissed Barbara back, "you deserve to be happy. You're as beautiful as Princess Leia and as wise as Yoda." He then did a Yoda laugh. Barbara blushed at his comment. "You really do love Star Wars, don't you?" Barbara rhetorically asked, smiling at him before kissing his cheek. "Guilty as charged," joked Robin, "I don't know about you, but I'm jonesing for a cup of coffee and some Pop-Tarts." Barbara smiled and replied, "then let's go get some."
