Meeting The Rest Of The Family
After promising on the graves of Thomas and Martha Wayne, Kevin and Robin followed Bruce back inside Wayne Manor. "You think we should check into a motel or hotel Kevin?" Robin asked. "Sounds like a good idea," replied Kevin. "If you boys want, you can stay here at Wayne Manor," offered Bruce. "You mean that?" Robin asked. "I insist. You boys are family now. Besides, I have plenty of rooms inside that I haven't set foot upon in years. I don't mind," said Bruce. Kevin brightened up and said, "thanks Dad. That means a lot. I'm going to call Mom and let her know that Robin and I made it to Gotham. When I'm done with my phone call, how would you like it if I cooked something?"
"You cook?" Bruce and Robin asked in unison. "Yep," confirmed Kevin, "when I was a kid, I would often help Mom with cooking. She used to call me her little chef. I can cook, bake, fry, grill, roast, practically anything." Robin smiled and said, "that's cute, the whole little chef thing." Bruce nodded and said, "I will say it is quite interesting knowing that you can cook. I'm sure Alfred wouldn't mind some help when it comes to cooking. Before you start cooking, how would you like to meet the rest of my family?" Robin tilted his head and asked, "like Dick and Barbara? Tyler told me about them. Well technically she only briefly mentioned them." Kevin chuckled, "it would be nice to get to know more of my extended family. Especially since technically Tyler is kind of my little sister." Tyler said behind them, "don't even think about calling me sis or sissy. But I do appreciate that you consider me a sister." Robin yelped in surprise. "You go along and call your mother Kevin. I'm sure you and Mister Warner have a lot of unpacking to get to. I'll get the rest of the family to come over," said Bruce, "Alfred can show you to the bedrooms."
"Thanks again Dad!" Kevin said enthusiastically. He, Alfred, and Robin went outside back to the Freebird and got out Kevin's suitcases. As Bruce called Dick, Barbara, Tim, and Cassandra to come over, Alfred guided Kevin and Robin to the bedrooms. "The both of you are more than welcome to choose your own rooms," said Alfred, "and allow me to carry one of your suitcases Master Kevin." Alfred took a suitcase and Kevin replied, "thanks Alfred." Kevin then found a room that was four doors down on the right side and said, "I think I'll take that one over there." Alfred nodded and said, "wise decision." He opened the door and let Kevin into his new bedroom. Alfred, Kevin, and Robin then went inside and placed the suitcases near the bed. "If you boys need me, do not hesitate to call," said Alfred as he then left the bedroom. "This is nice," said Kevin as he looked around his dormant room and sat on the bed. "Yeah, I could totally get used to this. I'll have my room be the one on the left side next to you," said Robin as Kevin dialed his cell phone and called his mother. Andrea picked up and said, "hello?"
"Hey Mom!" Kevin said enthusiastically. "Hey sweetie!" Andrea said on the phone, "did Robin manage to get you to Gotham?" Robin nodded and said, "I sure did Miss Beaumont. We made it safe and sound all the way to Wayne Manor." Andrea then said on the phone, "well that's good to hear. Did you get to meet your father, Kevin?" Kevin nodded and replied, "yeah I did." Andrea then asked, "how did he take it?" Kevin smirked and replied, "like a detective. He took a DNA test. Surprisingly it didn't take that long." Andrea chuckled, "that's my Bruce. Always the detective." Kevin then said, "but despite that, Dad is willing to welcome me and Robin into his life. I'm optimistic he and I can form a good father-son relationship." Andrea replied, "I'm certain you will. I talked to the Danvers family recently. They were wondering how you were doing. Same with their daughter." Kevin blushed a little at the mention of his ex-girlfriend Kara Danvers. "I could tell them that I'm doing alright," said Kevin, "I hear that Metropolis isn't that far from Gotham. Maybe I could see if Kara is there and ask her how she's doing. I definitely should have congratulated her on her graduation from Metropolis University."
"I'm sure she knows," said Andrea, "anywho... it's the evening time in Bellevue, so I gotta make dinner. Be safe, okay Kevin?" Kevin nodded and said, "I will Mom. I love you." Andrea replied on the phone, "I love you too Kevin. Bye." That's when she hung up. Robin then curiously asked, "was this Kara your girlfriend?" Kevin nonchalantly shrugged and replied, "basically. When I was 14, her parents Jeremiah and Eliza Danvers moved into my old neighborhood with their daughter Kara. We were next door neighbors. I had a crush on Kara during eighth grade. Thought she was cute. Soon I found out she liked me the way I liked her. Once we finished middle school, we started a romantic relationship together. We dated all the way through high school. We really loved each other. I remember the many dates we went on together. When I was with Kara, she made me feel normal. Does it kind of make sense?" Robin nodded and replied, "Yeah it makes total sense. Did you two stop dating or something?"
"Well, yeah..." Kevin admitted, "but not for the reasons you think... after we graduated high school, Kara got accepted into Metropolis University and I got accepted into the University of Washington. We both knew it would be hard to maintain a romantic relationship via long-distance. So we both mutually agreed to break up. We broke up on good terms though. But there are days where I do miss my Kara... she was something special." He sighed, thinking of the memories. "Why don't you reach out to her then?" Robin suggested, "I mean, you're done with college. Maybe you could give it a shot again. You never know if Kara still has feelings for you if you don't take that risk..."
Two hours later, Bruce called the rest of the Bat Family to come over to the Batcave. The rest of the family consisted of Dick Grayson (Nightwing), his girlfriend Barbara Gordon (Oracle, who was bound to a wheelchair, remember that now), Cassandra Cain (Batgirl), and Tim Drake (Robin). They were all there, with Tyler present. They were all wearing their super suits, minus Barbara of course. Tyler had an innocent smirk on her face. Dick looked at the ginger girl and asked, "Tyler... do you know why Bruce called us?" Tyler smirked and replied, "maybe I do, but if I told you, it would ruin the surprise." Tim smirked and said, "that's reassuring. I mean, I do like surprises." Alfred saw everyone was here. He gave the nod, and Batman then came in. "I'm glad you could all take time out of your busy schedule to meet with me," he said. "Why'd you call us, Bruce?" Barbara asked, adjusting her glasses. Bruce took off his mask and said, "I consider you all family. And I shouldn't hide secrets from all of you. 25 years ago, you may as well have heard that Andrea Beaumont came back as The Phantasm to exact revenge on the men responsible for her father's death."
"Wasn't Joker involved with them before he became, ya know...?" asked Nightwing. "Yes, he was," confirmed Bruce, "Andrea was my first love. We tried to reconcile, but it didn't work out. But it turns out... We conceived a son." Nightwing, Oracle, Batgirl and Robin were shocked. "What's his name?" Cassandra curiously asked. "His name is Kevin Beaumont," confirmed Bruce. "Is he here right now?" Dick jokingly asked. "Yes," replied Bruce, "would you like to meet him?" Barbara shrugged and asked, "why not? Does he know our identities?"
"Not yet," said Bruce, "when he comes in, I want you to take off your masks and introduce yourselves to him. Well, whoever's wearing a mask anyway."
"Got it," said Tim. "You can come out now," said Bruce. Kevin then got out from his hiding spot, behind the Tyrannosaurus Rex robot. Kevin waved at Nightwing, Oracle, Batgirl, and Robin, smiling. Babs gave Kevin a respectful nod and a small smile as Dick, Tim, and Cassandra took off their masks. "Kevin, this is Dick Grayson, the original Robin," said Bruce. "They call me Nightwing now," said Dick, "this is my successor, Tim Drake. He's the current Robin." Tim smiled. "Nice to meet you. I guess this means you're his first son," said Kevin as he shook Dick and Tim's hands. "That's Cassandra Cain, otherwise known as Batgirl," introduced Tyler, "she's kind of like me. What she lacks in speaking, she more than makes up for in action." Kevin shook Cassandra's hand, and the young girl said, "you have your father's eyes. It is a very handsome trait." Dick looked at Kevin again and said in realization, "oh my gosh, you're right!" It shocked Dick that Kevin looked like his father. "And this is Cassandra's predecessor, Barbara Gordon, AKA Oracle," said Bruce. "I think I've heard of you," said Barbara as she warmly shook Kevin's hand. "You have?" Kevin asked. Barbara nodded and said, "yeah... you're that guy Kara told me about. You were her boyfriend once." Kevin gave a look of surprise and asked, "you knew my ex-girlfriend, Kara Danvers?" Barbara was surprised that her friend never told this man she was Supergirl. Even Bruce was surprised to know Kara dated his son. Boy, would Bruce have a lot to say to Clark next time they had a chit chat at the cafe. Barbara looked at Bruce with a look that said, "should I tell him?" Bruce shook his head no. "Yeah, I know her," said Barbara, "Kara's my best friend. She told me you were such a sweetheart. If you want, I could contact her so you two can reconnect."
"That would actually be nice," said Kevin, "thanks Barbara. Mind if I introduce you guys to the guy who brought me to Gotham? His name's Robin Warner." Tim shrugged and replied, "sure." Tyler smirked, knowing what kind of reactions the family would make. "You can come out now," said Kevin, and Robin wandered over to Kevin. "Hi everyone!" Robin said enthusiastically, "I'm Kevin's friend, Robin Warner. Nice to meet you all!" Dick, Barbara, Tim, and Cassandra gave looks of shock. "A toon?" Cassandra asked in disbelief. Robin shook each of their hands, blushing slightly when shaking Barbara's hand. "I know it's a little weird, but Robin's my friend," said Kevin. "Well it's not that weird," said Tim as he shook the toon's hand. "You all need to swear on the graves of my mother and father that all of you will not reveal this to anyone," said Bruce, "I want this secret to be private."
"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone," promised Barbara. "This secret won't leave the cave," promised Dick. "I swear." Tim and Cassandra promised Bruce, nodding at him. "And don't worry, Robin and I won't tell anyone your identities," promised Kevin. "Cross my heart and hope to die," promised Robin, "I'll even poke out my own eye." That phrase caused Barbara and Kevin to laugh. The way Robin looked at Barbara didn't go unnoticed by Dick, and he gave Robin a look that said, "don't even think about it, kid." Kevin then said, "since you guys are family to me, how about I make pizza?" No-one said no to that offer. The pizza that Kevin made for everyone was good.
