A New Car
It had been two months since Dick dumped Barbara, breaking her heart. Robin was there for her during that difficult time, their bond growing stronger. It was almost as strong as Kevin and Kara's bond. Robin would spend every Tuesday night with Babs and watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer with her. As for Kevin, he successfully applied for a job as a cook for a hospital kitchen at the Gotham Hospital, which he liked due to his love for cooking and because as Dinah said, every doctor, nurse, and patient deserves a good meal. Robin was used to driving Kevin to the Gotham Hospital for work. Robin had soon come to the conclusion that he was in love with Barbara, and the first to deduce this was Kevin. On one particular day, Robin had just gotten Kevin back from work. As they got inside Wayne Manor, Alfred approached and greeted them. "And how was your day at work Master Kevin?" Alfred asked. "Very rewarding," said Kevin, "a lot of the doctors were happy with what I made."
"That's wonderful to hear Master Kevin," said Alfred, "your father is in the Batcave currently." Suddenly, Bruce walked out of the grandfather clock that led to the Batcave. "Ah, there you are Kevin," said Bruce, "would you and Atticus like to come to the garage side of the Batcave?" Kevin shrugged and said, "sure." Kevin and Robin then followed Bruce all the way to the Batcave. "I never tire of coming down here," said Robin. "I'm curious Kevin, do you have a driver's license?" Bruce asked. "I do have a driver's license and I know how to drive," replied Kevin, "it's just that Mom is the only one that has a car... and at the time I couldn't really afford buying a car." They soon made it to the garage side of the car. "Well I figure you deserve to drive a car of your own instead of having Atticus driving you to and from work," said Bruce. "With all due respect Bruce, I'm totally cool driving Kevin to the Gotham Hospital," protested Robin. "I insist," replied Bruce, "I don't drive many of these cars anyway. Figured one of my sons could drive it since he's old enough."
"You really mean it, Dad?" Kevin asked his father, getting excited. "You've earned it son," said Bruce. Kevin, Bruce, and Robin wandered around the garage, looking at the many cars that Bruce and his father had owned over the years. Kevin noticed that one of these cars was a 1968 blue Roadrunner Plymouth. "Whoa..." Kevin said in admiration. "See anything you like?" Robin jokingly asked. "I think I found a car that I like, Dad." Kevin said, smiling. "The 1968 Roadrunner Plymouth. I was about your age when I first bought this," said Bruce, "you want this, Kevin? It may need to be refilled with gas and you may need to buy a new license plate, but nothing we can't fix." Kevin nodded and said, "thank you so much Dad. This really means a lot." Bruce smiled and said, "glad you like it." Robin looked at the Roadrunner Plymouth and said, "gotta say Kevin, you got good taste in cars." As the three left the garage and found themselves back in the Batcave, Bruce casually asked, "anything else you boys want to talk about?"
"Well now that you mentioned it Bruce, I've kind of come to the conclusion of something regarding Barbara..." Robin awkwardly said, "whether Kevin's deduced it, I don't know." Kevin chuckled and replied, "I have actually. I've deduced that Robin has a crush on Babs." Robin blushed and replied, "more than that. I'm in love with her. Got any advice?" Kevin gave an awkward smile, shrugging at his dad. Bruce wasn't shocked to hear this coming from Robin- he was the world's greatest detective after all but what shocked him the most was that Robin was turning to him... for love advice. "Well, um, get to the point and tell her. Maybe buy chocolates and flowers too," he tried to advise him. Robin pulled out a notebook and wrote notes. "When do you think I should tell Barbara?" Robin asked, "do you think it's too soon after what happened with Dick?" Kevin shook his head and said, "I don't think so. What do you think, Dad?" Bruce couldn't understand why they were asking him. Had they not known of his previous dating history? "Maybe in a few days. Although it has been two months since she got out of that messy relationship. Whether she's ready to trust someone yet is for her to know and for you to find out," he explained to them before commenting, "Tyler, it's appreciated that you're curious, but your input would have been great a few minutes ago." In response, Tyler wandered out of the shadows, her hands raised in mock defense and a smirk on her face. Kevin and Robin gasped in surprise. When Robin gained his composure he said, "thanks Bruce. I know love isn't your strong suit. But Kevin and I really do appreciate your wisdom." Bruce gave a nod in response while saying, "glad that I could help in some form."
"Maybe you should give it a few weeks, Rob. Barb's still processing everything and my knuckles aren't as bruised as I need them to be." Tyler commented, earning a glare from Bruce. "I just hope when I practice telling my feelings to Barbara, she doesn't accidentally overhear," said Robin. Kevin laughed, "that would never happen. At least, I hope not." Tyler just laughed at their comments. "You know Kevin, I said it before, but I'll say it again, as the son of the world's greatest detective, you can be quite oblivious," she commented before adding, "so can you, Rob."
"Well, Kevin is smarter than me," said Robin. "Oh stop," chuckled Kevin. "Wait..." Robin said in realization, "is Barbara on the computer, listening right now?" He blushed. Tyler nodded, a smirk on her face. "Opened the commlink about 15 minutes ago," she said. Suddenly, Barbara's voice said, "Robin, you really should stop butt dialing." Of course she was trying to lighten the mood with a joke. "Wait, but, I didn't butt-dial you this time!" Robin stammers, getting more red in the face. Kevin thought fast and said, "hey Robin, how about you take a walk outside and look at the scenery..." He winked at Robin. "Well, I guess that's my cue to exit stage left," said the toon as he left the cave, going to his car. Barbara hung up the call and waited for Robin to turn up at her doorstep. "You little devil..." Kevin said to Tyler, "it's enough that Robin replaced Dick's shampoo with pink hair dye. But then you up and do this." He was doing his best not to break down in laughter. Tyler shrugged. "Firstly, Barb had wanted to get a feed onto the Batcomputer- I complied. Secondly, Bruce knew about it and should have mentioned it. Finally, I've only entered the cave recently. That was me sending the feed from upstairs," she explained to him. Kevin burst out laughing. "What are we gonna do with you two?" He laughed, "I hope things work out between Robin and Barbara."
"For Barbara, set her up with Robin. For me, drown me in Atlantis and bury me above lava," commented Tyler, the last part in a slightly joking manner. "I'd never do that to you," said Kevin as he chuckled and left the Batcave to do other things. As for Robin, he had to see about a girl.
