"I know you're not".
---------------------------○☆○---------------------------
It was about six in the morning when Jung Jisoo was woken up by a rather harsh poke in her sides.
She slowly opened her eyes, squinting to look at the person who had angered her very early in the morning.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" The sleepy girl grumbled out in a raspy voice.
"I've been trying to wake you up for ten minutes!" Jin exclaimed. "Not my fault you sleep like a dead person".
"What do you want? It's too early for me to process anything".
"I don't need anything, just wanted to wake you up early like a good friend so you reach the building on time," he answered and she could hear him shuffling around.
"It's t- time a- already?" She asked and let out a yawn.
"We have some more but I woke you up earlier because you-" he pointed a stern finger at her sleepy form, "-Are going to help me cook breakfast".
Jisoo groaned loudly, "Come on it's my first day! Be a little lenient with me".
"Nu-uh," he retorted back and pulled the blanket that was wrapped around her with a strong tug.
She sighed and against her will, sat up on the bed while rubbing her drowsy eyes.
With a huge yawn, the black-haired girl stood up and looked around at the members who were all fast asleep.
"Will be in the kitchen in fifteen minutes," she called out to Jin who shouted back an "Okay!"
After a warm and soothing shower, Jisoo put on black track pants with a baggy sky blue t-shirt and tied her hair in a high ponytail.
"Good morning Jisso-ssi," said Namjoon as he got up and ran his hand through his messy hair.
"Morning!" She smiled at him after zipping up her backpack.
"You're ready to go already?" He asked in surprise.
"Your dear hyung," she chuckled a little and rolled her eyes. "Wake up the others will you? I'll whip something up for breakfast".
He nodded and gave her a grateful look which she brushed off with a wave of her hand.
"Alright what do we have here now?" She asked when stepping into the kitchen.
Jin opened the fridge and cupboards to show her the various ingredients making her give an approving nod.
"What do you eat every day?" She questioned and grabbed some bowls.
"Mostly ramen or we go to that small restaurant to eat," he responded and leaned against the counter.
"Let's make some grilled short ribs and rice with red beans," she muttered and started the preparation.
"Oh that sounds wonderful," he let out a loud hungry sigh.
Jisoo had been cooking for fifteen minutes and that too all alone, with Jin just helping a little here and there.
"You can help rather than look at me you know?" She laughed while raising an eyebrow at him.
"I'd much rather prefer staring thank you very much," he grinned and she shook her head.
As she was once again concentrated on not letting the food burn, he had begun his 'admiring' as he called it.
Jin's back was pressed against the counter and his arms folded over his chest. His dark brown eyes were following her every movement with a sense of curiosity. It was like his mind was put in a daze, all he could do was focus on his best friend beside him.
"Woah hyung what are you making?" Said a voice that interrupted his concentration.
"It's not me, it's Jisoo," said Jin and pointed at her.
"Grilled short ribs?!" Hoseok almost squealed. "They're my favourite. Thank you!"
"No need to thank me," she smiled and distributed the food contents equally into eight bowls while piling them all on a tray.
"I'll take it!" He interjected and taking it from her carefully, he traipsed to the living room.
"YAH! EVERYONE BREAKFAST IS READY COME OUT!" Jin shouted making Jisoo wince and give him a sharp nudge.
"Why?!" He exclaimed and rubbed his side where her elbow had poked him.
"Because of you being so loud. For god's sake, it's seven in the morning" she muttered and he rolled his eyes.
The three sat down on the small cushions and were soon joined by the others who were all cleaned and dressed.
"Morning everyone," she greeted and smiled upon receiving the replies.
"Did you cook, Jisoo-ssi?" Taehyung asked and she nodded.
"Yeah, all thanks to Jin for waking me up," she fake-glared at her best friend who just winked.
"It's really good," Jimin sighed in contentment and continued to gobble down the rest.
"Wait- we never asked you your birthday," said Namjoon and the others all looked at her expectantly.
"19th July 1993," she answered and collectively everyone's eyes snapped to Yoongi.
"What?" Jisoo questioned their sudden behaviour.
"Yoongi hyung is a '93 liner too," answered Jungkook.
"Awesome," she laughed and was pleased when Yoongi held out his palm for a high-five which she returned.
"Now our group has three pairs of liners," Taehyung grinned happily.
"Oh yeah? Who all?" Jisoo asked in between small bites of rice.
"Firstly you and Yoongi hyung. Then Hobi and Namjoonie hyung who are '94 liners. An lastly me and Jiminie '95 liners".
"Almost all of you are younger than me," she frowned not liking her being older.
"Jungkook-ssi when's your birthday?" She asked turning to her left to face him.
"1st September 1997," he mumbled shyly and rubbed his arm.
"Ah so you're the maknae, these two are the second youngest," she muttered and pointed at Jimin And Taehyung.
"And you, my dear best friend are the oldest," she smirked while giving Jin a teasing nudge.
"Not you too!" He groaned and slapped his forehead in exasperation. "Their teasing is more than enough already".
"Of course, it's not! It's never enough when you mess with the elder ones," she snorted.
"I'm just one year older," he whined.
"That's 365 days and it's a lot," she stated in a sing-song voice and started gathering the empty plates.
Jin just rolled his eyes and wordlessly started helping her in cleaning while the members were still snickering silently.
"Jisoo-ssi?" Jimin asked as he took the cutlery and dropped them in the sink.
"Yeah?" She asked and rinsed the dishes with water one by one.
"Is- Is it okay if I call you noona?" He inquired and looked nervous.
She laughed out loud at his flustered face and said, "Obviously it's alright. Please do, the extreme formality was killing me".
Jimin grinned, "Then you can call me and the other members by just our names too".
"Okay then," she smiled. "Now let's hurry, I think it's time to leave".
She was drying her hands with a napkin when Jin shouted, "JUNG JISOO! COME ON WE'LL BE LATE!"
She sighed while Jimin looked amused, "This boy... I swear he'll be the death of me someday".
They all took their backpacks and Jisoo put on a black Yankees baseball cap on her head.
They all walked out, locking the door before leaving and then headed downstairs, on their way towards BigHit Entertainment.
"Hey," Jisoo trailed off in a small voice but everyone heard it anyway. "Erm- Is it alright with you all if I call you by your names?"
"Of course, it is," Hoseok laughed in delight. "Can we call you noona then?"
"Sure," she smiled and readjusted the strap of her bag that was slung over her shoulder.
"Okay then noona," Taehyung grinned cheekily making her chuckle.
The eight were chatting and laughing non-stop as they walked, the smile on Jisoo's face hadn't wavered a bit during the whole journey.
As they neared the building, Jin noticed her face drop down a little and she had suddenly gone quiet.
He gently patted her arm to get her attention and whispered, "You alright? You seem troubled".
He watched as she breathed out and swallowed, him understanding she was nervous.
"I'm alright. Just hyperventilating internally, but nothing to worry about," she said and smiled widely.
Jin knew she used dry humour to cope with her anxiety and stress and his face held a disapproving look.
"Don't look at me like that, I'm seriously okay".
"I know you're not," he said simply and the calm facade she was holding faded away to reveal a worried expression.
"I'm nervous," she frowned as though not being able to understand her feelings.
Jin had opened his mouth to say something when Jimin's voice cut him off, "Hyung! Noona! Come on!"
"You all go ahead," Jin called out. "We will be up in five minutes".
He nodded and Jisoo watched as the boys went inside, disappearing behind the door.
"Now," said Jin and turned to give her his full attention. "What's wrong?"
"I'm nervous," she mumbled again. "I don't even know why. I'm confident in myself, I know I have talent, but I'm still shaking".
"I get you," he gave a small understanding smile and pulled her in a warm hug.
"But you'll be okay. You're amazing and really good, Jung Jisoo. You're a fantastic rapper, a brilliant dancer and a wonderful songwriter," he muttered and gently rubbed her back.
"Thank you," she said softly, her voice slightly muffled due to her face being pressed against his shoulder.
"And the most important fact, you're my best friend," he finished making her laugh a little as she pulled away.
"We better get going then," she said and he nodded but kept a comforting arm around her shoulder.
They all entered the dance practice room and dropped their bags in a corner.
"So noona," Namjoon began and Jisoo turned around to face him.
"We have vocal lessons first. You'll be joining me, Hoseok and Suga hyung for the rapping practices and the rest will be rehearsing singing," he informed.
"And after that, we have a small break. Then we gather here for dance practice," added Jin.
"Got it," she smiled and grabbed her water bottle from the bag.
"Shall we go then?" Hoseok asked and looked at her.
"Oh yes," she nodded and walked over to the three rappers.
"Good luck!" Taehyung smiled brightly making her grin back as she gave him a thumbs-up.
The four rappers were walking in silence. The others noticed Jisoo fiddling with her fingers and her face which depicted a hint of nervousness.
"Don't worry, you'll be fine," Yoongi stated and she looked uncertain but nodded her head.
"I'm anxious," she sighed.
"It's expected, today's your first day after all," Namjoon smiled softly. "Just relax and do your best".
"Your voice will be a nice addition to our raps when we release our own songs," said Hoseok.
"I hope so," she laughed slightly which was replaced by a panicked feeling when they stopped in front of a door.
"You'll do good, don't worry," Namjoon whispered and she gave him a small smile that didn't reach quite reach her eyes.
He pushed open the door and moved aside for her to step in, "Ladies first," he laughed softly.
Jisoo rolled her eyes but allowed a small chuckle to escape her lips.
Stepping inside, her eyes involuntarily scanned every corner of the room, before they settled on a man pacing around with a sheet of paper in her hand.
"Anneonghasseyo!" The members greeted in unison and bowed.
"Anneonghasseyo," the coach smiled back. "And welcome to your first vocal lesson, Jisoo-ssi. I'm Lee Sooho".
"Yes, thank you," the girl in question smiled nervously.
"Now, not to be nervous or anxious. I'm just going to ask you to rap these songs so I can understand your range. Boys, you can start with the regular warm-up," Lee Sooho informed.
The three young men nodded and all stood away from each other to properly analyse and listen to their voices.
Jisoo rapped the suggested song to the best of her ability while the coach listened to her every word with concentration.
She paused at the right beat, spat out the words in perfect rhythm and changed the pitch of her voice to high and low whenever required.
When she was done, a heavy sigh left her lungs due to the ending verse that was quite fast for her.
Sooho nodded appreciatively and smiled at her, "That was good, really good. Well done".
"Thank you," she panted slightly and attempted to steady her irregular breathing.
"Your flow is certainly great. You make the words sound mean and happy when needed. It makes the listener enjoy and sway along to the song," he praised making her nod.
"It was a good cover, noona," Hoseok commented in awe.
"Your voice will surely be a great addition among us," Namjoon smiled.
They practised for a long time, repeating exercises to stretch their vocal muscles, trying a song together for the first time with Hoseok and Jisoo doing a bit of singing.
"Well done!" Sooho laughed and clapped his hands. "I can't wait to hear your official album".
"Neither can we," said Yoongi and the others nodded.
After a little more rehearsal, the vocal sessions were over.
"Jisoo?" Sooho asked and beckoned her over.
"Yes, sir?"
"I didn't tell you this before because you were doing well and I didn't want to discourage you. But I want you to work more on your breathing," he instructed.
"Oh, of course," she nodded quickly.
"I could hear you get breathless, your uneven breaths were a little too audible. Just put some work into that. But put that aside and you're great," he added with a chuckle.
"Yes sir, I'll do my best," she stated before exiting the room to join the boys who were waiting for her.
"Noona, you are awesome," Hoseok laughed while they were on their way back to the practice room. "I can't wait to see you dance".
"Guess I have to do more than my best if a professional dancer is watching me," she smiled at his flustered face.
They walked inside to see the vocal line already gathered around in a corner, sitting against the walls and drinking cool water to nourish their throats.
"Hey, how was it?" Jin was the first to question the four.
"Brilliant," Namjoon answered with a grin. "Our voices fit together effortlessly".
All eight of them were sitting in a circle, laughing and cracking jokes together, and making the most out of the small break time they had.
Taehyung, Hoseok and Jimin were asking Jisoo questions about her trainee years, with Jungkook adding something now and then. Namjoon and Yoongi were talking about song lyrics and productions. And Jin...
Kim Seokjin was too busy staring or as he called it, 'admiring' his best friend.
His head was leaned back against the wall, soft strands of hair falling onto his forehead. His eyes were glued on the girl seated in front of him.
He watched as her hands moved around a little as she spoke. Her dark, pitch-black eyes moved from one person to another as she answered the rapid questions that were asked. Her long, dark hair swayed gently whenever she turned her head and the young man saw a few locks rest on her face, him wanting nothing more than to push it away from himself.
He observed her face intently. Her eyes reflected the lights, giving them a sparkling effect. Her cheekbones lifted upwards every time someone said something funny. A faint blush was visible on her cheeks upon receiving compliments and praises. And her lips, her light pink lips that appeared to be permanently stretched to form a smile.
His eyes widened just a little bit when met with hers. Jisoo lifted her brows as if to ask, "Alright?"
And even though the answer was so simple and easy, all the boy could do was give her a small nod along with a smile, while his soft and fond expression remained the same as he gazed at her.
