Chapter Five
JAYS POV
I parked my car on the street. I would have to jump the fence in order to get in undetected. My watch blinked back at me. 2:53. I had exactly seven minutes to make this happen.
I quickly went over my check list. Picnic basket, music, candles, I was ready. I entered the backyard, wincing at the creek the that echoed over the pavement. The foot holes of the tree groaned under my weight as I began climbing up to her balcony.
The balcony doors were clothed in white. I knocked on the window. "Cleo," I whispered and knocked harder. The wind whipped through the air.
Her lamp turned on. I could hear the creak of her floorboard as she cautiously moved toward the window. The corner of the curtain pulled open slightly, just enough for me to see the green in her eyes. He brows furrowed together and she unlocked the door.
I breathed a sight of relief I hadn't realized I'd been holding in. I half expected her to make me wait out here all night.
"What the hell are you doing here," She hissed at me and gestured frantically for me to come in. I walked in her room and took in my surroundings.
She looked as beautiful as ever. Her hair was tied back in a bun, with hundreds of pieces flying away. Her nose was scrunched and eyes clouded with doubt.
Her room looked exactly like I remembered. The blue and white wallpaper, purple bean bags, photo collections, and record vinyls sitting on the shelf growing a fine layer of dust. How long had it been since she listened to music?
She checked her watch,"It's three in the morning, what is so important that it couldn't wait." Her voice was hoarse from sleep.
I pulled white gardenias from behind my back, "Sounds to me like you've forgotten about our date. There is two different types of 3 o'clock you know." The look of shock registered on her face, "You forgot about me though. I didn't...." She trailed off.
The secounds ticked by, and it became painfully aware that Cleo didn't find this as clever as I thought she would. "You're right," I relented, "I shouldn't of come I'm sorry." I turned to leave.
"Wait just.." She closed her eyes, "let me go the the bathroom first." I turned back around to a wide grin spread across her face.

CLEO'S POV
I splashed cold water on my face. I had my Bambi pajamas on, and my hair stuck up in a million different directions.
I could hear Jay whistling outside my bathroom door. I couldn't help but laugh at how insane this all is. I felt a small bubble of hope emerge from my chest.
Roses, late night dates? It was like nothing had ever changed.
I studied my reflection in the mirror. My nerves were on edge, "Keep your shit together." I whispered to myself.

The car was silent except for Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata playing on the radio. I turned up the volume.
"I remember the melody in this was awalys your favorite." I smiled at his recollection of the small details that he had decided to take note of. "It's breathtaking, the music," I remarked swaying along to the sound.
From the corner of my eye I saw Jay glance at me,"Beautiful," he commented.
My stomach lurched.
I had the feeling he wasn't talking about the music.
