Love Never Grows Old

Peter knelt in front of Gwen, his legs a little shaky. He didn't seem to notice, or perhaps he was ignoring it. Instead he lifted a bouquet of red roses.

"For you, dearest," Peter said. "Happy Anniversary."

Gwen smiled, accepting the gift. "Fifty years, huh? We must love each other a lot."

Peter laughed. "We sure do. Or at least I do."

"Not as much as I do," she protested.

"I agree to disagree," he said getting up and giving her a warm hug.

Just before Peter could even kiss Gwen, their doorbell rang along with a soft knock on the door. Gwen began to stand, but Peter refused to allow it, placing his hands against her shoulders to push her back against the couch lightly. Gwen rolled her eyes youthfully, and Peter went to answer the door, his cane tapping against the hardwood floor. Gwen placed the flowers in an empty vase as she watched her husband.

He opened the door to his three grandchildren giving him a tight embrace, his sons and their wives standing behind them.

"Happy Anniversary, Grandpa!" the grandchildren exclaimed.

"Why thank you!" Peter said with appreciation.

After letting go of the grand-kids, he welcomed them and their parents in. Seeing Gwen on the couch, the grandchildren ran over to her, hugging her and wishing her a happy anniversary as well.

"My, you've grown!" Gwen laughed, patting each of her grandchildren on the head. "How long has it been?" She lifted a wrinkled hand to her lips to imitate herself pondering something, causing their grandchildren to jump up and down laughing.

"It's only been a week, Grandma!" one said. Her name was Isabelle, with brown hair pulled up in pigtails that swayed back and forth as she talked. She clapped her little hands together, making a silly face.

"Has it?" Gwen shook her head, placing her hands on her hips now. "Then you sure do grow fast!"

"Like, super-fast," Peter added. He stretched his arms out: One was above his head and the other headed for the floor. "This much!"

"Nooooo!" Isabelle squealed. "This much!" She held up her fingers, with her thumb and index finger only a few millimeters apart.

Peter laughed. "Fine, you got me." He placed a hand on Gwen's lap as he sat down beside her on the couch. She entwined her fingers with his and they smiled at each other lovingly.

"So, how have you guys been?" Ben, Peter and Gwen's oldest son, asked.

"Good. Very good," Peter replied happily. "And you?"

"We've been great as well," he told his father, with his wife, Beatrice, nodding slightly in agreement.

"Dad, we forgot the chocolate house!" Howard whispered to his father, George, loud enough to get Gwen's attention.

"You have a chocolate house?" Gwen asked, her eyes lighting up at the thought of it, just as she did when she was young.

"Pfttt, nah!" George exclaimed, trying to cover up the surprise that was accidently spilled. "I have no idea what he's talking about. Now I gotta run back to the car for a sec...." Without continuing, he sprinted out of the house.

A minute later, he returned, carrying a mini chocolate house with a sign on it, written with vanilla icing, saying, "Happy 50th Anniversary".

Gwen beamed. "Oh, boy!" She clapped her hands together joyfully. "Goodness, I am going to go diabetic." Peter chuckled. "Sadly, I have to wait until dessert to eat it. Dessert comes last, remember that, kids!"

The Parker family encircled Peter and Gwen's large mahogany dining table, holding hands and speaking a soft prayer. After they were all seated, Gwen uncovered the pots, plates, and bowls that contained the food that she had prepared for their lunch. The aromas of ham, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, green beans (seasoned with Peter's secret ingredients), and fresh biscuits mixed together in harmony, filling everyone's nostrils with its spectacular steam.

Isabelle began to serve, for she was the youngest. She reached for the ham, taking a fork to place a sliver of meat on her plate before passing the plate. Next, she picked up the green beans, and so forth.

Once everyone had what they wanted, conversation about work and raising children was exchanged between them all. Maxine, Howard's sister, pointed out how she'd lost another tooth, and the tooth fairy had left her another dollar. She planned to add it to her allowance and save up for a new doll.

Howard's birthday was coming up soon. He wanted a monster truck to add to his toy car collection. Isabelle, who was his cousin, had been begging her parents for a new teddy bear for "eternity" (which was only two days), and she decided she'd ask for it for her birthday as well.

"Your birthday isn't for six more months!" Peter said.

"So? Santa gave me a lot for Christmas, but now I noticed that I forgot to ask him for something!" Isabelle replied. Everyone laughed. Howard's elbow bumped into his drink, and George caught it before it hit the floor with stunning reflexes.

"Careful, son," he said, smiling. Howard nodded, accepting the drink, sipping from it gratefully.

"So, have you started showing the kids how to use their powers, yet?" Gwen asked her sons.

"A little," George said. "Mainly just climbing, right now. Nothing too strange, you know, to keep the family secret safe."

"Yeah," Beatrice agreed. "We don't want anything to slip accidently." Gwen nodded, smiling.

"We are waiting awhile for Isabelle, like you did for George and me," Ben said. Peter smiled as well.

After the Parkers finished their lunch, they decided to wait on dessert, for they were all stuffed. They gathered in the living room: The grandparents and parents were on the couch, while the children sat on the floor, watching TV.

Suddenly, Ben's and George's spider senses alerted them. Some sort of crime was taking place in the city, and they had to go help. They said goodbye and promised that they'd return for dessert, leaving quickly before something bad happened.

Meanwhile, Peter switched the channel to the news so that they could see what's happening. In Times Square, two miniature, mechanical rhinos approached the Spider-Men, ready for attack.

"Oh, our boys will be home in a minute," Peter predicted. "Those things are the easiest to defeat!"

Just as the mini rhinos were about to charge at them, the machines suddenly broke down, which allowed the Spider-Men to take the criminals out of them and bring them to the police. Ever since Aleksei Sytsevich had attacked the city decades ago, no one has been able to properly replicate his suit.

"And what did I tell you?" Peter said proudly. "They broke down before our boys could even fight them!"

Seconds later, the Spider-Men returned, with their family welcoming them in hugs and congratulating them. "Wow, Daddy, you defeated them with your mind, didn't you?" Howard asked excitedly.

"Actually no, son," George replied. "They just broke down on their own."

"I still think you have mind powers," Howard said with a smirk.

Once the family finished feasting on the chocolate house, it was time for the old couple's sons to go home with their wives and children. They each said goodbye to Peter and Gwen, giving them hugs. Isabelle was the last to do so, reminding Peter to get her the teddy bear she wanted. Peter laughed, telling her that there's a possibility he could get it for her.

After waving goodbye to the families as they drove off, Peter closed the door, locking it, and returned to the couch with Gwen. Putting his arm around her, he sighed. "Well this has been a wonderful anniversary so far!"

"Yes it has," Gwen agreed. "It was great seeing our grandchildren again. Boy, they're growing so fast!"

"Yeah. Isabelle's one heck of a child!" They laughed at his remark.

"Time's also going by quickly, you know?" she added. "Like, where did it go? I remember when I was a child. It still feels like it wasn't long ago when we first met, don't you agree?"

"Oh, I remember that day perfectly!" Peter proclaimed. "You stood up for me to that bully, Flash Thompson. Then in class, you asked me my name, pretending you already knew it and was using the excuse to make sure I didn't have a concussion."

"Pftt, I knew your name!" Gwen protested, trying to act natural.

 "Really Gwen?"

"I just wanted to be sure, okay? It was the first time we'd talked in person. Wow, who knew back then that that would be the start of our relationship, that we would be married and have sons and grandchildren?"

"Exactly! Who knew that I would be married to the most beautiful, intelligent, and kindest woman there is?"

"And who knew that I would be married to the original Spiderman who's the most handsome, smartest, and sweetest guy I know?"

The old couple stared at each other for a moment, smiling. Peter put his hand on Gwen's cheek. "I love you so much, Gwen Parker."

"I love you so much, Peter Parker...my bugboy." They laughed once more, remembering the old name.

"You know, I just realized that I haven't given you an anniversary kiss yet," Peter stated.

"Well, it's not too late," Gwen blushed.

Peter grinned and gave her a gentle kiss on her lips.

Who knew that love never grows old?

Author's Notes:

Hey guys! I just want to thank everyone who bothered to read this. It really means a lot when we have people like you who support us. Sara and I really enjoyed working on this short story for you guys. Even though it took a lot of time and effort to work on this, it was still worth it. Writing fanfiction is only better when you get to work on it with one of your best friends/favorite fanfic authors.

The point of this one shot was to give you an imagination of what it would be like if Gwen never died; instead had gotten married to Peter, starting new generations of Spidermen. We wanted to show you how strong their love was for each other and that love really never grows old. Well I hope you enjoyed reading this. We look forward to writing more stories for you guys in the future!

Hey! Thank you all for reading! I asked @fandomz_land to co-write this oneshot with me because I just love her fanfictions and ideas, and I wanted to try something new. I've seen other authors co-writing stories together, and it sounded like so much fun, which it was. Though, I think we spent a little too much time planning. (Haha.) It took forever just to name everyone.

As you all know, (and if you don't, now you will) @fandomz_land and I both have written several The Amazing Spider-Man fanfictions not only to enjoy writing and creating our own ideas and characters in Peter Parker's world, but to also have our say in what we think the story should be. If you haven't yet, please don't hesitate to check them out! I guarantee that you won't be dissapointed.

Thanks again for reading! Love you all! :)
