Letting Go

My dear son,

I prepared everything so that at least Soo-hui would be able to escape safely. I will deal with Choi Soo Ryeon on my end so don't worry. You just focus on getting your sister and yourself to safety. I want you both to find yourselves where you can settle down and have peaceful lives. I gave Soo-hui 50 million, use that to get yourselves by. Find a job that you'll enjoy and keeps you out of trouble. Get yourself a woman and cherish her. I thank whoever becomes my daughter-in-law. Have lots of children to keep yourselves busy. And give my future grandchildren my love. Lastly, thank you for allowing this old man to become your father. Never did I think that the young boy determined to save his younger sister's life would enter changed my life and change it in ways I never expected. I will never forget you and always cherish our time together.

Love, Lim Ji-rok

Your Father

"I tried to convince abeoji to come with me, but his mind was set." She lets out a quiet laugh despite tearing up. "He's so stubborn. Who does he think he is? Trying to act all cool. It felt like he was trying to be our superhero or something..."

A few tears drop onto the letter and Soo-hui looks to notice her older brother crying. The act alone makes her let out a sob and wraps her arms around him.

Chung-ya places the duffel bag on the table and pushes it towards Seung Hee. "I believe this belongs to you."

"...Thank you." Seung Hee says with a grateful smile.

"There was another 200 million though. That bonus amount was meant for Hana." Chung-ya reveals surprising them.

"...What was the password?" Hana asks after a moment of silence.

"...The last one. January 24th, 1968." Chung-ya answers with a sympathetic look.

"The day he killed Il-sung?" Seung Hee scoffs. "What? Did he want to always remember the day he achieved victory by taking away from his brother?"

"Eomma... I don't think that's it. I know you don't want to hear this, but I think appa's death really affected him. For the past twelve years, he would talk about him, and we would visit appa's shrine every month." Hana tells her with a gloomy look.

"She's right. He did seem remorseful when I asked about his brother." Chung-ya agrees, surprising Seung Hee. "I'm not going to tell you to give him a chance, you shouldn't. He doesn't deserve it. But... I think if things had turned out differently, he would have been a good brother."

"...Hana. Do you know why snowdrops are your favorite flower?"

"Hmm?" Hana blinks, confused by her mother's random question. "Because they represent hope. Oh, and it was the first bouquet I received from a secret fan on my first stage play! Don't tell Hee Tae about that though, he'll get jealous."

"...That secret fan was me." Seung Hee reveals, surprising her daughter. "That day I took the opportunity to watch your play and give you a gift. I barely got to see you as you were growing up. It was my way of apologizing for missing everything and wanted to see what hope felt like..."

"Eomma..." Hana holds her mother's hand while blinking multiple times.

"Your father always held hope, so you also get that from him. He'd always hoped that he would not only change the ANSP, but his brother would give him chance... That they would become real brothers. But as you know, it didn't work out. I felt like a hypocrite because I resented him for that but then I ended up hoping that we would be reunited but as mother and daughter one day... Now I'm starting to regret sending you those flowers because of their meaning."

Hana shakes her head. "I don't feel that way because they made me so happy! And in a way, you played matchmaker for me and Soo-ho too! My snowdrop snow globe is what brought him and I together the second time." She giggles until she looks dejected. "I get your concerns though but... I can't help but wanting to hope that the man who raised me will do the right thing this time. It won't make up for all the horrible things he's done but he could at least do it for our family that he wronged."

Seung Hee is silent until she sighs and pinches Hana. "Just like your father... So annoying."

"Wh- But you fell for him! It's not my fault I got the better traits from him." Hana pouts and shrinks back from the glare that she receives making her run behind Chung-ya to hide.

Chung-ya chuckles they all hear the door open, seeing the Lim siblings step inside.

"Hello." Soo-hui bows. "My name is Lim Soo-hui. I'm sorry that my brother has been such a handful. Thank you for putting up with him for so long." She says with a sweet smile earning a playful glare from her brother.

"It's-it's an honor t-to be in yo-your presence!" Hana stutters as she stumbles over to the siblings.

"And you are...?" Soo-hui asks in amused tone until she notices her necklace around Hana's neck. "Wait, that's my..." Her eyes widened and she looks to Soo-ho. "Oppa! She's wearing the necklace! That means you gave it to another who's most precious to you! Did you finally... Did you finally find the one?!"

Soo-ho laughs at his sister's excitement and nods.

"Oh my god!" Soo-hui squeals and pulls Hana into a hug. "Sister-in-law!"

Hana blinks multiple times before smiling and hugging back. "Sister-in-law!"

Soo-ho playfully rolls his eyes and separates his girls. "Alright, alright. That's enough." He pulls Hana closer to him and gives his sister a smile. "Sis, this is Nam Hana. My wi-girlfriend! My girlfriend. And that is Pi Seung Hee... This is Nam Il-sung's family. His wife and daughter."

Soo-hui gasps and touches the scarf around her neck. "Here! You should take this back!" As she is about to take it off Seung Hee stops her.

"Keep it. I have enough of Il-sung to remember him by. Besides I could never wear it anyway, that thing always made my neck itchy." Seung Hee tells but Soo-hui still looks unsure. "It's fine. Right, Hana?"

"Yep! I have the bracelet that he made for me and lots of other stuff! You should keep the scarf. I'm sure he wouldn't mind. He gave it to you after all!" Hana reassures the older girl with a smile.

"...Thank you. And I'm sorry about what happened to him. I hoped that I could meet the kind man who helped oppa and I all those years ago again." Soo-hui says with a sad smile.

"Il-sung made his own choices and he did not regret a single one. If you ever get the chance of visiting his shrine, you should go and thank him."

Soo-hui smiles and nods. Just then, Gyeok-chan and Eung Cheol arrive, shocked to see Soo-hui there.

"Soo-hui?!"

Ah! Well look who it is! Tweedledum and Tweedledee!" Soo-hui says with a smirk.

"Yah! Stop calling me that!" Both men yell.

Meanwhile in North Korea, Lim Ji-rok has one final showdown with Choi Soo Ryeon.

"You must be dying to bring me down... I want to show you something."

He gets up from his seat and walks over to two covered paintings.  He rips the covering off the first one and looks back at her with a smug face.

"...What are you trying to pull?!" She yells, angry upon seeing the painting.

"Whenever I look at this painting, I am reminded of you. "Saturn Devouring..." I don't remember the name." He tells her and rips off the covering of the second painting.

Her eyes widened upon seeing who is in the painting... A family portrait containing Lim Ji-rok and two young children.

"Lim Soo-ho that you ordered to kill... And Lim Soo-hui whose life you threatened...  I picked them up off the street nineteen years ago. He begged me to save his sick sister." He tells her as he walks back over to his seat and sits down. "Their father and uncle had died. Their mother had left them. They had no one so I took them under my care... Do you know who they really are? Lee Tae-san and Lee Tae-ran. The children you abandoned to climb up the ladder... Still want them dead?"

She continues to glower at him until she slowly smirks. "You must be mistaken. My children died nineteen years ago. To serve our Supreme Leader with my life, I abandoned my reactionary husband and all my children."

He sighs and nods. "You're right... They're Lim Soo-ho and Lim Soo-hui. My children. And I will protect them to the very end. So if I were to go down... I'm taking you with me."

All of a sudden, soldiers enter the room and salute Ji-rok.

"Arrest her." He orders and she becomes even more shocked as they listen to his orders. "I got control back and now you're going to where you truly belong... The biggest mistake in my life was considering you human. But your decision...became the best choice that I made in my life... Take her away."

"Your families are safe and are being sent to this location." Soo-hui informs Eung Cheol and Gyeok-chan, passing them a note.

"Really?!" Eung Cheol asks with the biggest smile on his face. "But how-"

"Thank my abeoji. He did a lot to make sure we all could escape safely." Soo-hui tells him.

Gyeok-chan looks up from the note and gives the Lim siblings a nod of appreciation.

"Comrade!" Eung Cheol cries as he gives Soo-ho a hug making the latter laugh. "Your dad is the best!"

"A ship has been scouted to stow away everyone. A cargo ship will be arriving at Pyeongtaek Port at 2 a.m." Chung-ya informs them.

"2 a.m.? But that's too tight. I should go call Eun Chang-su first." Soo-ho says as he pats Eung Cheol's back.

"I'll split the money for the rest of you." Seung Hee announces, shocking everyone. "Don't worry about Eun Chang-su. I have a plan. You'll need enough to get you all by. And I'm not taking no for an answer. Hana is alright with this too."

"Just them. Soo-hui brought money that our father gave to us-"

"So you won't accept money from your future mother-in-law?" Seung Hee asks with a look that frightens him.

"I didn't mean... Uh... I..." Soo-ho looks around for backup and notices two people missing. "Where's Hana and my sister?"

"Oh my goodness! Soosoo is so cute!" Hana gushes over Soo-ho's baby photos.

"Soosoo? Ooh, I'm so teasing him for that later!" Soo-hui snickers and holds up a photo to show the twins. "Hey, what's up with this one?"

"Oh, umm... Roro and I were working on this really tall cake for Hye Ryung's birthday and well... Roro's clumsy self had tripped onto me, and we both fell into the cake. That's why we're all splattered with cake."

"Hey! It was partially your fault for not setting the cake correctly! You got distracted by Soo-ho when he showed up!" Young Ro retorts.

"It was only for a second!" Hana blushes. "Had you watched where you were going, the cake would have survived!"

Soo-hui watches the twins as they bicker and bursts out laughing. After a moment, they hear knocking on the door and look to see Soo-ho standing in the doorway watching them with a sad smile.

Flashback

"Soo-ho. I know that you want to save everyone. I understand. You feel the hostage situation started because of you. But it's not your fault. You know who really started this." Chung-ya says, trying to persuade Soo-ho that they need to leave soon.

But-"

"Brat." Kang Moo puts his hand on Soo-ho's shoulder. "It's my job to save the students job anyway. Don't worry and just go... I know that we will meet again because of Hana. I can imagine your whining of being away from her for too long." He teases putting a sad smile on Soo-ho's face. "But after you leave here...don't you dare come back and try to be a hero. Alright?"

Soo-ho looks down to see Kang Moo sticking his hand out. He puts his hand in his and they shake on it.

End of Flashback

"Young Ro... You should go get ready... We're leaving soon." He tells her, trying to ignore the heartache that he's feeling.

"Oh... Okay..." Young Ro's face saddens, and she glances at her twin before going to prepare.

"...Before you all go..." Hana gets up and walks over to Soo-ho with a smile. "I would like for you guys to do this one thing for me."

"No! Let go of me!" Gyeok-chan yells as he tries to struggle against his comrades. "I'm not doing it!"

"Comrade, she's not asking for much! Stop fighting us!" Eung Cheol yells as he holds onto Gyeok-chan's arm.

"She's asking for a lot because it's with you two!" Gyeok-chan retorts.

"Gyeok-chan! Quit being stubborn!" Soo-ho yells as he wraps Gyeok-chan's arm around his shoulders.

"NO!"

"Come on, Channy! Just one photo! Please!" Hana pouts with pleading eyes.

Gyeok-chan groans and finally stops resisting making his comrades look at him with disbelief.

"That's all it took? We were going at this for ten minutes! She gives you the puppy eyes and you keep still?! Yah!" Eung Cheol yells and smacks Gyeok-chan's shoulder.

Soo-ho only glares at his comrade, feeling irritated of his and Hana's growing friendship.

"Okay, you guys fix those faces and smile! You guys are friends, remember? So get closer!" Hana tells them with a smile.

"They're not my friends. I don't like them." Gyeok-chan mutters.

" I only like Comrade Lim." Eung Cheol adds.

"Comrade Joo has gotten on my damn nerves too much." Soo-ho finishes.

"Well... Humph!" She scrunches her face up and stomps her foot. "Just act like you all are best friends, even if just for one moment!"

Then men look at each other and silently communicate with each other with their stares.

"...Civilized."

"Fine!" She pouts and holds up the camera. "Get ready!"

The men stand closer to one another, and Hana begins the countdown. At the very last two seconds, Eung Cheol grins and throws his arms over his comrades' shoulders much to Gyeok-chan's displeasure and causing Soo-ho's laughter.

"Say butterscotch!" She says giggling.

"You're really leaving this time, huh?" Hye Ryung asks seeing Soo-ho walk up to them.

He nods and gives them all a sad smile, not knowing what to say.

"I'm going to really miss you, oppa!"Seol Hui cries as she goes in for a hug.

Jeongmin rolls her eyes and joins the hug. "Sheesh. You act we'll never see him again." She mutters and notices that Hye Ryung hasn't joined the group hug yet. "Aren't you going to give Soo-ho a hug?"

"Absolutely not." Hye Ryung answers with a frown. "He got one hug from me already. Why on earth would I ever do that again?"

"Because you love him." Jeongmin teases.

"YAH!"

He sighs and after letting go of the two girls, decides to approach Hye Ryung.

"Come here."

"No. What-what are you doing?" Her eyes widened as she realizes he's going to give her a hug. "No! You better not- YAH!"

"I'm going to start my own restaurant. A fried chicken restaurant." Eung Cheol says, his thoughts filled with the delicious food.

"Really?!" Hana squeals, jumping up and down. "But wait... Do you know how to make it? Do you know how to cook?"

"I-I'll learn! And just you wait! Even if it doesn't become the number one restaurant, I'll have one of the best fried chicken restaurants ever!" He replies with a proud smile.

"...Well, I'll be happy to visit once you get it open." She replies with a big smile.

"Then I'll make sure to have a seating ready for Comrade Lim and- Oh!"

He is surprised as she suddenly hugs him. "Make sure you eat enough. Get plenty of rest. Always remind yourself that you're doing your best and...don't be sexist."

He sniffles as he's tearing up. "You brat. Why are you bringing that back up? I was never sexist... You better drink white milk. No matter how much you hate it, it helps with growth. Grow a few more inches from that shortness."

"I'm not short! I'm the same height as Roro!" She says, blinking multiple times and puts something in his pocket. "Eat every single butterscotch!"

"I'll eat them as long as you agree to drink white milk and get enough sleep. I haven't forgotten that time when you passed out."

"Just like I didn't forget you getting shot! You better not get shot again!"

"I don't plan to!"

"Good!"

"Good!"

"You could at least hug me back!" She says in a shaky voice.

"Fine!" His voice is also shaky as he hugs her back.

"Fine!"

Their hug continues for a few more minutes until she breaks the silence.

"I'll miss you, Chewy."

"What kind of nickname is that?!" He yells now placing her into a headlock.

"Stop it! Let me go, you butthead!" She whines, struggling to get away from him.

"You could have at least smiled, Channy." Hana pouts, holding up her photo. "I took four photos! One for each of us and you didn't smile in a single one!

"Be satisfied that I was in it." Gyeok-chan replies in an annoyed tone.

"Meanie." She continues to pout then surprises him when she gives him a hug. "Take care of yourself, okay? Don't get sick again. And don't get into any more fights with your friends. Behave yourself."

"...They're not my friends." He mutters, as he hopes she doesn't feel how fast his heart is beating. He slowly hugs her back. "And you stop focusing so much on other's needs. Focus on yourself and what you want... And choose your friends wisely."

"You're saying that while being picky about your friends." She giggles and puts something in his pocket. He smirks knowing it's butterscotch. "I'm really going to miss you... But we'll meet again someday!"

He doesn't reply and pulls away from her to go into the meeting room. He soon returns with the camera and wraps his arm around her shoulders.

"Huh?" She blinks as he holds the camera up, taking the photo.

"Now you've got what you wanted." To further her surprise, he places a gentle kiss on her cheek. "...I'll miss you too, Nanny."

He places the camera in her hands and walks away from her. He stops when he sees the rest of the Room 207 girls and heads over to them.

"What do you want?" Hye Ryung asks him as she and others eye him suspiciously.

"...Sorry for...you know." He says and hurries away, shocking them in the process.

"Did he just...apologize?" Jeongmin asks with widened eyes.

"Either that or I've been eating too much butterscotch." Young Ro murmurs.

Hana watched the scene with a tearful smile not realizing Chung-ya coming up next to her.

"So he really is your sidepiece. How does Soo-ho feel about that?"

"Huh?!" Hana blinks and glares at her aunt figure. "My only sidepiece is butterscotch."

"Really?"Chung-ya lightly pinches her niece's cheek, not affected by her adorable glare. "Then for your boyfriend's sake lay off all that candy... I'm sorry for everything. Lying to you about who I really was and what my purpose was here. But I meant what I said before... Everything that I did for you was never an act."

"...What's your real name?"

Chung-ya raises a brow but answers her question, "...Kim Eun Hye."

"It was nice knowing you, Kim Eun Hye. Find the best man for you and have kids. Get the life you've always wanted." Hana says with the biggest smile on her face.

Without realizing it, Chung-ya sheds a tear. She slowly smiles back and gives her niece one last hug.

"...Thank you."

"...Hana." The women pull away from each as they see Hee Tae walking towards them. "Soo-ho is waiting for you in the attic."

"Oh, I better hurry! Take care, auntie!"

Chung-ya watches her go with a sad smile then turns to Hee Tae.

"Thank you for teaching me everything that you know. It was an honor to have been your student and younger brother." He says before bowing.

She waits till he straightens up and gives him a hug. "The honor is all mine."

Hana arrives at the attic and walks over to Soo-ho. He notices how she's now wearing her favorite scarf and doesn't even attempt a smile.

"...We're leaving first to catch a ship." He tells her, trying to keep his emotions in check. "Once the hostages are released, go with them."

She nods. "Okay. I won't be too worried about you guys since Roro is going as well and you have the money they need... You'll need these too."

She gives him a smile and unwraps the scarf from around her neck to now wrap it around his neck.

"This is..."

"My favorite scarf. I know. But I want you to have it. Take care of yourself and look after my sister-in-law. Don't get shot at again and please try to get along with Gyeok-chan. Oh and no matter how many ladies hit on you, let them know that you're a married man." She tells him with a smile and puts some butterscotch in his pocket.

He stares at her for a moment, nothing but silence between them. He then pulls her closer to him, giving her a hug.

"I'm not going to say it and you can't say it either... Because if we do then I'm not going to be able to leave." He tells her as his voice begins to crack.

"Okay." She murmurs, hugging him back.

"Don't eat too much butterscotch while I'm gone. Try to stay on Hye Ryung and eomeoni's good side since I won't be here to protect you. And make it clear to any guy who comes up to you that you're a married woman." He blinks, trying to stop the tears from falling. Once he composes himself, he takes a step back. "I won't break my promise to you. As long as we're both alive, we'll meet again someday."

She nods and gives him a sweet smile. "Okay! I'll wait for you, Sooho-ssi!"

He places his hands on her arms, rubbing them up and down, and gently kisses her forehead, her nose and lastly her lips, conveying how much he loves her into each one. The slowly pull apart from one another and without looking at her, he walks away. Just as he reaches the door, he feels her arms around his waist.

"Just one more hug before you go."

He sighs, allowing her request as he places his hand on top on hers. After a moment, she slowly lets go and he leaves without looking back. She stares at the door until she bursts into tears while outside, he finally lets his own cries out.

When Hana returns to the entrance, she sees her best friends standing on top on the staircase. As she joins them, she then sees Eung Cheol and Gyeok-chan heading downstairs. As they walk by, they take notice of the girls. Eung Cheol waves goodbye as his smile is more directed towards Hana and Seol Hui. Gyeok-chan keeps his attention on Hana until he looks away once he is no longer in their vision. Chung-ya is the next to walk by and as she does so, she gives her niece a one last smile. Soo-hui and Young Ro follow after.

"Let see each other again, sister-in-law! I've got lots of embarrassing stories about Soo-ho to share with you! And you, Young Ro and I have to hang out as well, okay?!"

"I'll see you girls soon!"

"Please don't take too long and come back soon!" Seol Hui shouts, almost about to cry.

"Young Ro, try not to be clumsy and land in a fountain or whatever!" Hye Ryung shouts with a hand on her hip.

"Unnie!" Young Ro blushes and runs away as Soo-hui begins asking questions.

"Why do you always have to embarrass her?" Jeongmin asks, smacking Hye Ryung's arm and gets a glare in return.

And the last one to walk by is Soo-ho. It's if everything goes into slow motion and it's just the two lovers. He slowly looks up and gives her one last loving glance. Once he is no longer in her vision, she sheds a tear. The others notice this and comfort her which doesn't last long as they hear Kyung Ja screaming. They hurry upstairs to find her with Seung Hee and Kang Moo.

"Mr. Kim is suspicious. I heard him radio someone in the records room." Kyung Ja informs Kang Moo as she is catching her breath.

"What do you mean? He asks in a concerned tone.

"Eliminate the agents including Lim Soo-ho and return with Moran Hill." Kyung Ja reveals, shocking everyone.

"Are you sure?" Seung Hee asks, casting a worried glance at her daughter.

"Yes. I heard it clearly. And I heard him order someone to get a vehicle ready by the shrine. I think he's going to leave the dorm now. I saw him going down to the records room."

Hana runs back downstairs, ignoring everyone's calls as she is desperate to get to the others in time. Just as Soo-ho is about to climb up the window, he hears his name being screamed.

I need to tell you all something... So I'm having issues with my desktop keyboard. It's doing these weird things where if I press a key, it will add an extra letter/number, open another window or moves the cursor. Like I don't know what's wrong with it. I'm doing what I can with it while also using the touchscreen keyboard, the latter being very challenging. So if updates are late, you know the reason.

If you don't remember me mentioning it before, I had decided to change Lim Ji-rok's character because in the show, all the parents were horrible! I wanted at least one redeeming parent in this book because Soo-ho's real mom and Hana's adoptive parents SUCK!

How were the goodbye scenes? None of them were easy!

And let's celebrate because this series hit 20k!🎉🎉🎉🎉
