It's You
"...Why haven't you put on the bracelet? Your dad had it made for you." Soo-ho asks his girlfriend as he sits next to her on her bed and receives a nod.
"...It will sound weird, but I just felt like the timing wasn't right yet... Like something is supposed to happen first. I think I want to know about my eomma first before I do anything. She answers while looking at the bracelet. "Do you know anything about her?"
"...From what I can remember your dad said you loved your mom very much, but you could go without her for at least a few hours. With your dad, you would start pouting if he was gone for a few minutes. Apparently, you enjoyed driving your mom crazy." He chuckles.
"I'll apologize to her if I ever meet her." She says, giggling. "...Gyeok-chan told me about how my real appa saved the North Korean families who were related to the assassins who tried to kill the president... I guess it was no coincidence that we all met like this."
"...Going back to those times, you're a lot like him." He tells her with a small smile. "Caring for others more than himself. Letting others borrow his things even when he might need them himself. Telling people to take care better care of themselves. Accidentally saying his thoughts out loud. Having a special cure that Soo-hui and I never knew what it was, but I can take a guess it was either butterscotch or friend chicken." He teases her with the last part making her giggle. "...He was a good man. So in order to repay for him everything that he had done for me and my little sister, I made a deal with him to become his daughter's bodyguard."
"Huh?" She blinks a few times. "That's funny considering you're the one who needs a bodyguard. Are you sure you're a professional? You keep getting injured."
"Hey!" He puts a hand on his heart, faking the hurt and she giggles. "He wanted you to have a bodyguard to protect you from anyone that tries to hurt you and to scare all your future suitors away." He laughs as her face scrunches up. "...I'm guessing the other bodyguard he was talking about Gyeok-chan."
"Hmm..." She sniffs. "I think I'm smelling some jealousy aga-" She starts laughing as he starts a tickle attack. "Okay, okay! I'm sorry! I'll take it back!"
While she tries to calm herself down, he picks up her snow globe and shakes it. He then feels her wrap her arms around his waist and he looks at her with a smile.
"I'm so happy it was you, my mystery man!" She giggles.
"Mystery man?" He asks with an amused look and she nods.
"Yep! When we first met, I didn't get a good look at what you looked like so I called you mystery man. I'm glad that you recognized me the second meeting." She pokes the snow globe. "You know why snowdrop flowers are my favorite? They represent hope and I always hoped that I would meet you again."
"...Hana-ya." He shakes the snow globe again. "I'll have hope that you'll find answers about your mom someday. I'll help you look for those answers if you want. Hopefully she's still alive and will give me her blessing to marry her beautiful daughter someday." He declares making her eyes widened.
"M-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-m-marriage?!" Her face starts turning beet red and she quickly turns around to hide her face in her pillow.
"Oh? Why are you blushing? Huh?" He teases, lying on the other side of her. "How could I not marry this crazy woman? Hmm?"
Someone knocks on the door and Soo-ho kisses the side of her head before going to answer it. He becomes annoyed when he sees it's Gyeok-chan.
"Comrade Kang needs to see her." Before Soo-ho can call for Hana... "She wants me to bring her."
Soo-ho gives him a cold stare while the latter just looks smug.
"Hmm?" Hana lifts her face up from the pillow and looks over to where the two men are. She gets up and hurries over to them. "Channy!"
"You're looking better." Gyeok-chan says, ruffling her hair.
"All I need is butterscotch or fried chicken and I'm good." She tells him making him give her an amused look. "You've been controlling your temper, right?"
He sighs. "I'm doing my best."
"Really?" He nods with a smile. "I'm so proud!"
"Comrade Kang wants to see you. Come on." He tells her and grabs her hand, infuriating Soo-ho.
"Comrade Joo... Didn't I tell you not to push your boundaries? Know your place." Soo-ho snaps, pulling back Hana over to him.
"Careful, comrade... Your jealousy is showing." He argues back, grabbing Hana's hand once more.
"You-"
All of a sudden, the two have butterscotch candies shoved into their mouths.
"Why can't you two ever get along?! You two keep fighting and even threaten to shoot each other! Stop fighting! Stop getting injured! Man up and act your ages! Wait, you guys can have a few childish moments but you still have to grow up!" She demands with a stern look that looks adorable to them. "Now eat those candies and calm yourselves down! Humph!"
She marches away from the two, going to meet with Chung-ya but a few seconds later...
"Are you going to keep standing there or show me where she is?!" She yells, hands on her hips and tapping her foot, waiting on Gyeok-chan.
Hana sits across from Chung-ya in the hall director's office.
"I came from the North with one mission in purpose. To help those sent here get back home in case they ever needed my help." Chung-ya tells the younger girl with her arms crossed.
"Then why approach my family?"
"I need some type of insurance to guarantee the safety of my fellow agents if things ever went wrong." The older woman shrugs. "Caring for your family was part of my job. It really helped getting info on the ANSP."
"...Okay." Hana gets up from her seat. "I guess it's better to know it was an act. You were doing your job.
"Hana." Chung-ya speaks, stopping Hana. "I need you to understand something... If it helps my country, I will do whatever it takes to complete my mission. I will always put my country before myself or anyone else... But everything that I did for you was never an act."
Hana stands there for a moment before opening the door and walking out. Just as she is about to head back to her room, she sees Soo-ho coming her way.
"Hey... You're still going to tell me about your life, right? About what happened after my appa saved you all. Don't worry, I won't let you go after you tell me." She says and he nods with a smile. "And when we get a chance, how about I take you to visit my appa? I've already told him about you so I'm pretty sure he knows who you were when I brought you up. I'm sure he would be happy to see how you've been doing after all these years."
He continues smiling at her and pulls her into a hug. "I would like that."
"And maybe bring Gyeok-chan too! I'm sure appa would like to see him as well!"
"Why?" He groans and hugs her tighter. "It can just be us two! He can go see him by himself!"
"Was it...because of Hana and Young Ro? Since Young Ro is the director's daughter and Hana is the secretary general's daughter, they made you a tapping room for security reasons? In case anyone close to them joined a protest, they asked you to watch them? Did my agency threaten you to make you do that, Ms. Pi?" Kang questions the hall director.
"Ms. Pi... Was it really because of us?" Young Ro asks.
"...Don't try so hard to understand. An inflexible sticker for the rules turned out to be a spying for the ANSP. That's the truth." Ms. Pi answers.
"But... Jeongmin's been protesting, but you let her be."
Ms. Pi looks down as she starts having flashbacks of her at a dam and Gyeong-hui threatening to kill her. She takes a deep breath while closing her eyes.
"I get the feeling that you have an ill-fated relationship with the ANSP-"
"A relationship?" She looks at Kang Moo with a look of anger on her face. "Being pestered by evil men isn't a relationship... After taking everything from me, I was forced to frame an innocent person for espionage and got her killed! Because of that, you people were awarded medals and prize money! For serving the country loyalty! You think I'll ever forget it?"
Kang Moo isn't able to say anything but look guilty.
"The one who tortured me the most cruelty...shed tears in front of people on the day I was released. With the look on his face just like you." She says with a shaky voice and looks away as the tears begin falling.
Hana leaves her room and sees Soo-ho going towards downstairs. She goes to follow him and eventually sees that he's heading towards the basement. Before she continues following him, she sees something on the floor...
"You were right." Soo-ho tells Kang Moo going to untie him. "I must get out of here alive. And I can't let my guys die."
"Okay. Let's find a way for all of us to get out alive." Kang Moo agrees and once he's out of his restraints he goes to untie Ms. Pi.
After Soo-ho unties Young Ro next, he hears the door open. Everyone's eyes widened and he is about to pull out his gun until he is relieved to see it's only Hana.
"Hana. What are you doing down here? You're supposed to be in your room." Soo-ho says in a stern tone.
"Sorry. I saw you and I followed you." She tells him making him sigh.
"Hanny."
Hana turns to look at Young Ro and puts her arms out for a hug.
"Roro."
Young Ro quickly goes in for the hug and begins to silently cry. "I'm so sorry."
"My silly twin. Why are you apologizing?" Hana says, gently patting her back.
Kang Moo walks over and ruffles Hana's hair. "Good to see you're still standing, kid."
"Look the only thing that can really knock me down is never having butterscotch or fried chicken again." She says making him chuckle.
Hana then looks over at Ms. Pi and let's go of Young Ro. She walks over the hall director.
"Are you alright?" Ms. Pi asks and receives a nod. "Good."
Hana remains silent and takes the thing she found out of her pocket, handing it to the older woman. Ms. Pi's eyes widened because it's a photo that belongs to her, the woman not realized it fell out of her pocket. She takes the photo back, looking at the side with the names on it...
Nam Il-sung
Pi Seung Hee
Nam Hana
She sighs and looks back at Hana who has an unreadable expression on her face.
"It's you... My eomma." Hana says, shocking everyone else.
Bonus Scene
"Wow, he's so handsome!"
"Can he be my future husband?"
Il-sung and U-jin walk out of the Hosu University entrance after meeting with the hall director. He walks by ignoring the crowd of fangirls and stops when he hears a familiar voice. His eyes widened when he looks over by the gate to see the woman that he fell for at first slap.
"Stay away from my friend, you pervert! If a woman isn't interested, then take the hint!" She yells at a man who won't stop harassing her friend.
"You bit-"
Before Il-sung can go over to help them, the woman throws one of her books at the man's head.
"Ow!"
"Want another one? Huh?! There's more where that came from!" She yells again, ready to throw another book.
"Okay, okay! I'm sorry!" Keeping a hand on his head when running away.
While the woman makes sure her friend is alright, Il-sung laughs after everything he just witnessed.
"She truly is something else..." He whispers, gazing at her.
"Wait... Sir, wasn't that-?"
"Yes. Inform the cops about what he's done. Make sure he gets a proper punishment and is taught how to treat women with some respect. Oh and from this moment on, he's fired."
"Yes, sir. I'll take care of the issue now. Please wait for me by the car." U-jin says before taking his leave.
Il-sung continues to watch the woman, having become more amazed by her personality. He then calls out to a dorm girl that passes by him.
"Excuse me!" She stops to look back at him and gasps by how attractive he is. "Sorry to bother you but what is her name?" He asks pointing at the woman he's been unable to stop thinking about.
"Oh you mean the dorm's protector? Ooh, are you interested?" The girl asks, slowly smirking. "She's rejected guys left from right. That girl always rather have her nose in her book or is taking care of everyone else. Still want to take a chance on her?"
"Hmm... She sounds like a challenge but I can't help but still be intrigued by her. I'll take my chances." He replies with a smile.
"She's lucky. I'm kinda jealous but my boyfriend wouldn't be too happy about that." The girl lets out a big sigh. "But to answer your question, that's Seung Hee... Pi Seung Hee."
"...Pi Seung Hee." He whispers but somehow it was like she heard him as she turns around.
"...Bonehead?" Seung Hee whispers after her eyes connect with his.
...Some of you called it before. Ms. Pi really is Hana's biological mother. Now to be honest, I'm surprised some of you were thinking that it wasn't her anymore after the "Just Stop It" chapter. Now I did use younger faceclaims for a reason because it was twenty years ago. Plus I actually did throw quite a few hints in there from their personalities. The pinching, throwing stuff, etc. I did consider actually making her the aunt but I really wanted her to be the mom, give more reason to why she was forced to work for the ANSP.
Soona content in this chapter and look at this man already talking about marriage!
Soo-ho and Gyeok-chan still can't get along...
How did I handle the Hana and Chung-ya talk? It was short but I don't think they gave a lot of backstory on her character and properly explain things about her mission. I know in the show it took her seventeen years to get Tae-il wrapped around her finger but when did she first meet Soo-ho? Was she going back and forth between the North and South during those times? What was even her mission before the events of the show? I get she was the backup plan to help the guys out and get them back home but what was she doing before that?
We reached kinda in-between the end of episode ten and beginning of eleven. Episode ten ends with Kang Moo and Soo-ho vs Chung-ya but I chose to end it with the big reveal.
