Chapter 12

After seven months of choreography, rehersal, music, hard work and acting, the film was completed, and out grand opening was planned to be September 12, 1986.
I was in the theater with George and we checking it out before it opened in a few hours. " Okay, lets check the lasers, great. And the, uh..... seat lights? Excellent. And the smoke."
" Everything's perfect." I said, looking around, " You think were ready for the opening, George?"
" I think were finished." he confirmed.

The whole cast lined up in front of the Magic Eye theater and before we knew it, Lucas cut the ribbon and Disneyland guests were grabbing 3D glasses and cramming into the theater to watch the movie. I had never been to a grand opening, so it was a new experience for me.

I had been proud of myself--growing with the cast of Captain EO and showing the best of my abitities. That was my first movie where I got to explore a short tale of outer space and I had a great time it was a great sucess and I hope that the Disneyland guests love the movie as much as us as a cast does.
After the movie was done the set was striked down and the cast had split apart--except for Michael and I. I had finished some solo work and was looking for any other acting chances or funds to sponsor.
We were able to see the movie in the theater together. And trust me....no one wants to be in a theater with Michael and I because we are so loud and cant control our laughter if its a funny movie. We were on simple phone calls for a while, just back and forth. Which I enjoyed, it reminded me of the early days when we talked every single night.
I honestly don't know where I'd be without this wonderful guy.
Once, I kept calling and calling to see if Michael was able to attend the Music Awards and if he wanted to go with me but everytime I called no one picked up.
Soon I became really concerned. He didn't say that he was going out of town or anything, but then again knowing his schedule something always comes up. But wouldn't he tell me?
I guess there was a miscommunication because he called me back after I left my fourteenth voice message saying that he'd love to go with me.
He was wearing nearly all black with a hint of sequins, and I was wearing a one-of-a-kind Sherry Hill designed golden gown. It fit me so perfectly and I felt honorable and elegant.
He was smiling all the time that and I couldnt really put my finger on why he was. I mean, of course he's always smiling--he's Michael! But this was different.
We entered the large audotorium and every woman was dressed in shimmering gowns and men in tuxes or suits. The paparazzi were also trying to get good photos of us. Usually when were walking I drag him around, but that night he just seemed to know what he was doing.
We sat down in the first row where Michael's family was---all of them. I was kinda suprised, I thought Latoya was out of town.
Katherine was on the right of me and Janet on the left. All of them hadnt seen me for a while so it was a long line of embraces before the awards. The Music awards started, the nominees were chosen. Michael was nominated and after he had said his brief speech, which I, was mentioned in, he stayed up on the stage at the podium with Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones and Katharine Hepburn. Thats suspicious.
"The next award goes to the best female artist of nineteen eighty six. The Nominees are Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Jennifer Pinaud and Debbie Gibson." he spoke as he picked up the envelope on the podium.
Janet looked at me and she smiled. I couldnt help but ask her.
" Janet, do you know something I dont?"
She shrugged her shoulders.
Michael quickly opened up the envelope, " And the winner is....Jennifer Pinaud!"
The whole crowd screamed and clapped as loud as they could as my name and picture was displayed on back of the stage. I straightened the crinkles on my dress and walked up on stage.
He handed me the award. I nodded.
" Well," I laughed, " This was so unexpected, wow. Best Female Artist! I'd like to thank my producer John and my new manager Lewis. I say 'new' because my father was for a long, long time but he passed away last year. Thanks to the fans for helping me get through tough times. Your letters, birthday cards and gifts you make and buy me really put smiles on my face, along with your support. And of course my wonderful supportive friends who have changed my life..." Lionel Richie stopped me before I was about to leave the stage and asked for my award. I handed it to him and he told me to turn around.
Quincy headed to the microphone, " We have something special tonight. But before we begin, Michael? Is there something you'd like to do?"
" Yeah..."
