4: Not a Crush...Right?

Wednesday, September 13th
Well, you can detention/ISS was decent for a school on a low budget. I felt a bit bad Steven was in there with me even though he didn't do anything wrong. He isn't like the people at Empire Academy, where if they get in trouble they'd do their hardest to get someone else in trouble. It's more of a "If I'm going down, you're all going down with me" thing to them. Steven? He didn't have to do what he did. Why DID he do that anyways? It was a stupid move, that's for sure. Fuck you, Holly.
Anyhow, ,about ISS...all we had to do was sit there for a whole hour. Once the teacher left, I tried to strike up convo with the cutie next to me. I never noticed it til now but he has he cutest smile ever.  Seriously. And he didn't seem bothered to be in detention with me.
If being in ISS is supposed to be punishment, chain me to the wall~!
XOXO,
Spinel

After ISS was over, Spinel and Steven were sent home. They had a small talk while Spinel was making a Karen impression of Holly Blue, which was actually painfully accurate. Turns out that guy wasn't as bad as she thought he was. Though she still thought he was a dumbass for telling Holly it was his cigarette when it really wasn't, she caught herself taking a liking to him and his little clique. Actually she almost brought up Connie, but that was for another time.

Eventually they parted ways (but not before Steven offering to walk her home, which she declined for some reason) and all the while Spinel was heading back to the enormous mansion, she kept thinking about Steven and how he was strangely nice to her despite her being a complete asshole to him. Oh right, he's just a nice guy. That's a first.

"Sweetface, there ya are!" Sarah called as soon as Spinel walked in through the door. She was polishing off one of her trophies. "I was thinking you'd never show up."

She snapped out of her thoughts as she threw her backpack to the ground. "Oh, yeah. I got held up."

"Detention, I suppose?"

'Aw shit...'

"She actually called you?"

"Well duh. It's the first day of school, how the heck did you get detention? And what made you decide to smoke on school grounds? If you're gonna do that, do it where people aren't watching!" Sarah advised sternly. "And I hope ya know smoking isn't good for ya, sweetpea."

'When the cool Grandma Sarah comes back, give me a call.'

Spinel rolled her eyes as she got onto the luxurious couch and changed the channel. "It won't kill me."

"It won't kill you? Sweetpea, a lot of people have died because of smoking. You could get cancer or worse. As a matter of fact one of my closest friends died because of it, and they were only 23. You're all I got, I don't needa lose you too."

"Alright, alright, I'll be careful next time." She brushed off, still flipping channels.

Sarah put down the trophy and crossed her arms at her granddaughter. "You do know you won't go unpunished right?"

That brought some attention. Confused, Spinel asked, "What? I just got detention!"

"Yeah, you can forget about us going paragliding too."

"WHAT?!"

'You son of a bitch-'

"Oh come on! You promised!" Spinel whined. Sarah smirked at the reaction. It was humorous in her eyes. "That's criminal! That should be illegal!"

Sarah began laughing at the childish Spinel. Though the teen herself couldn't see what was so funny. She'd been looking forward to paragliding all day and now she can't do it? That's abuse, right there. True child abuse.

"Don't worry, I'll make it up to you tomorrow." Sarah laughed.

Spinel, still upset, slouched down on the couch. "Nothing can help cure my disappointment and sorrow right now. You cut me real deep, Sarah, you cut me real deep."

"I'll give you $500 of allowance tomorrow and I'll go with you to best of the best mall in town so you can get yourself a whole new wardrobe like I said I would. Anything you want, as much as you want. I'll pay for it. Howse that sound?" That was an offer Spinel just couldn't refuse.

"I'm in."

Thursday, September 14th
Just a quick entry before me and ol' Sarah head towards the mall for my shopping spree. One thing I learned from being here these past couple of days is that Sarah is actually super cool. And I also know she can't take punishing me seriously. I mean, she told me no paragliding but then turned that into a big shopping spree. I can tell I'm gonna love it here!
XOXO,
Spinel~

"Alright, Sarah, I'm ready," Spinel called as she went down the stairwell. She had decided to raid her mother's closet just for the hell of it, and also because she didn't feel like wearing the same thing as yesterday. Sure, it was a bit 90s, but she was able to pull something together; a tartan skirt, a classic white blouse, and knee-high boots. Did she look tacky? Maybe. Did she care? Not really considering tartan skirts were still in style. Once Sarah caught a glimpse of her, a small spread across her face.

"Well well well, if you built a time machine and brought us back to the 90s I wouldn't complain," she complimented teasingly, hand on her hip. "You're bringin' a lotta nostalgia in the room."

Spinel rolled her eyes as she took the $500 from Sarah. "I didn't think the 90s was so...well...good looking. I can see why you didn't throw this stuff away. Though these boots are gonna take a lotta getting used to." She said as she looked down at her black knee-highs. "I still can't believe mom wore these things."

"Trust me, she couldn't believe it either." Sarah joked. "Come on, we better go before all the good stuff is gone. Which ride is it gonna be today, kiddo?"

'Can I get my own ride?'

Spinel thought about it for a second, yet it didn't take long for her to choose one of the classics. "Cadillac! Definitely."

Sarah had already grabbed her keys and headed for the door once she got her answer. Spinel followed behind her, about to call shotgun until Sarah gave her a mischeivous smirk.

"Wanna drive?"

'Did she just...?'

There were stars in the goth's eyes. "Y-you mean...?"

"Well duh. You look old enough. Besides it's gonna be fun. I can even take you to my bud's racetrack later after we're done!" Sarah explained, stepping back as Spinel jumped onto her for a tight hug. She smiled at the girl below her. Spinel hadn't felt this happy since she learned who her mother was, well, sorta. She hadn't driven yet but here she is; about to drive her rich grandma's cadillac. This was a dream come true.

"Yes! Thanks Sarah!" She had finally let go and received the keys. Both of them took their respective places, Spinel in the driver's. "Alright, so what do I do?"

"Put the key in the ignition, duh," Sarah joked.

Spinel rolled her eyes. "I know that much. I mean the other stuff. Like the gears and all that." She said as she started the car.

"Well for one, press the brake pedal and then put the gear into Drive."

Spinel did as instructed, so far so good. "Now what?"

"Floor it."

"Floor it?"

"Floor it."

After flooring it, the car sped off and started speeding. That of course almost had her hit a few pedestrians but she managed. Meanwhile after a few failed attempts, Spinel had safely gotten them to the mall and into a VIP parking space, due to Sarah being a former starlet. Once they got into the mall, Spinel almost kissed the first cheese-guy she saw; the place was better than she ever imagined!

"Holy mother of Buddha and the Holy Ghost..." she said in awe, practically drooling. Sarah chuckled as she grabbed her hand and started walking.

"Glad you like what you see. Remember, anything you want, it's on me. Perhaps you'd be interested in FOREVER 21? I actually got the stuff I'm wearing now from there."

'That explains why you looks so good...'

"Obviously! Can we get to Dolls Kill and Hot Topic? Plus-"

"Chill, we're gonna get to all of that, trust me. Just know we're gonna hit the food court for a break. Come on, we gotta make your last day this week the best!"

This place had everything; Necklaces, earrings, hairties, and even Victoria's Secret. Fortunately, Sarah and Spinel both had a nack for looking hot, and unlike other teen girl's whose parents tried to shop for them, Spinel was impressed at Sarah's taste especially in the Victoria's Secret category. Meanwhile in FOREVER 21, Sarah had gone off to another section, looking at some trends and all. Spinel on the other hand had at least 6 pairs of jeans/leggings and 4 shirts on her arm before heading into the dressing room.

'Man if I knew she was this cool I would've came here decades ago!' Spinel thought as she observed herself in the mirror. She had on a black mesh shirt, complimenting her pitch black bra, as well as black leggings with a matching choker. This was way better than what she had on before with the 90s style fashion. She was also glad Sarah was gonna pay for it all, all 10 items she had so far would be at least $200. And that's excluding the choker.

"*gasp!* Steven! Check this out, Tiff's gonna love this for her birthday..! Whaccha think?"

Spinel stopped admiring herself once she heard Steven's name. 'Steven? He's here? So whose this with him?'

"Knowing her she'd want something that'll cost at least $100. How bout you check over there, I'll keep looking over here." -Steven

"Sounds like a plan. Don't get lost on me though UvO." -Connie

"*laugh* Sure, whatever."

"Who the fuck is Tiff?" Spinel muttered to herself. She creaked the door open to see Steven observing some trendy mannequins while also on his phone. He must've been talking to that Tiff girl. She slowly left the door cracked a bit before slowly popping up behind Steven. "Hello handsome~" She teased, Steven flinching as he turned around. His sighed in relief as he saw it was only her.

"Spinel, don't you dare scare me like that-" He demanded as Spinel giggled.

"Don't worry, I was just kidding. What brings you here? I'm sure your mom or whatever would ground you or something," Spinel questioned.

Steven shrugged. "Eh, they let me off the hook. Connie's friend Tiffany is having a birthday next week and she wasnted me to help pick out a gift. I did get a lecture from one of my caregivers though." He then crossed his arms and gave her a sus look. "Why are you here, considering you're in the same trouble I am. You're supposed to be under some sort of punishment too."

"Oh don't get me started, my grandma wouldn't let me go paragliding like she promised!" Spinel whined like a brat. Steven started chuckling at her behavior.

"Wow, what a bitch. Not letting you go paragliding should be illegal." He joked sarcastically. That earned him a punch on the arm. "Ow!"

"Watch it Mistah Universe. I can break more than just your arm if you keep talking like that."

"Talk about being a bully." There was a bit of a silence between them for a few seconds, though Spinel was feeling irratable from the shirt she was wearing. He caught her shifting a bit, also noticing a strange fitting with the mesh. "Uh....are you ok?" He asked in a concerned tone.

She had stopped shifting to tilt her head in confusion. "Huh?"

"You look uncomfortable, and it kinda looks like your shirt's a bit tight...? You sure you're good?"

Well, yes, it was at least a size smaller than she was used to. She had never paid attention to the size since she wanted to try it on so bad. Then again, it was mesh. It'll shift to fit her body. 'It's cute he's concerned though,' Spinel thought before she answered,

"Eh, mesh can fit easily if I wear it long enough. Besides the itch isn't bothering me. Though it is cute you noticed~" She took the oppurtunity to step closer and try to fluster him. "Ya saying you like my figure, Mistah Universe~?" She flirted in a seductive tone. Though it was for fun and giggles, Steven's face turned a shade of pink at the comment. Spinel giggled at his reaction. "I'm just kidding you goofball."

"I...I knew that-" He stuttered, Spinel laughing. She bit her lip in an attempt to be flirtatious; and it worked. She was now only centimeters away from him, and she could feel his warmth. He was so cute when he was flustered, and it entertained her to see him like this.

She traced a finger on his chest to add to the flirty mood she was going for. "Hey Stevie, guess what~?"

He gulped, trying to keep his cool. "Yeah?"

She was now looking into his eyes half-lidded and could tell it was making him nervous. Perfect. "When you're flustered like this? It really really turns me o-"

"Steven? Are you still here?"

'God dammit...'

"Connie!" Steven greeted as the dark skinned girl came to them with 2 bags on her right arm. She was smiling in a friendly manner.

"Hey Connie, I assume you got something for Tiff?" Steven asked, Spinel just standing there secretly shooting daggers at Connie but still pretending to like her. Connie nodded, holding up the bags.

"Got it, from off-shoulders to the latest stilettos. All of this can be from the both of us."

"Nah, I actually got the perfect gift for her."

"Ahem."

"Oh, right," Steven said, suddenly remebering Spinel existed. "Connie, you remember Spinel."

Spinel gave a half-ass wave.

"Oh hey Spinel, fancy seeing you here. And I see you have a very...unique...sense of style. I love it though," Connie complimented, but Spinel sensed judgement in her voice. "Anyways, Tiffany is a good friend of mines. She's heard about you and wants you to come to her birthday party next Saturday. It's exclusive and it's gonna have a chocolate fountain and everything. You should come, she's super cool."

'No way am I going to some prissy possibly dumb blonde's birthda-'

"I can come pick you up if you want." He offered, instantly changing Spinel's mind.

She responded with a casual "Sure, I guess I'll go" but inside she was excited as hell. Not because it was a rich girl's party, but because Steven would be there with her. Her very best friend. "Any info?"

"Hm...hand me your phone right quick."

'You better not be tryna post nudes in my DMs, chick.'

Spinel did as told and after a few seconds, Connie's number was in it. "I'll text it to you later, I have to go right now, my parents are probably worried about me." She explained. "Ill meet you at the Dondai when you get Tiff something."

"Alright, I won't be long." However, just as he was about to leave, Spinel's reflexes instantly went to his arm. He looked back to see she had grabbed him. "Spins?"

"Can I...get your number? Since we're friends and all?" She asked unusually quietly. Fortunately, Steven smiled and took her iPhone and put in his number. While she was disappointed his number wasn't the first, she still felt relieved to have her bestie's contact. She just might delete Connie's after she gets the party info...

"Spinel."

"..."

"Spinel...?"

"Yeah?"

"You're...hurting my arm-"

Spinel quickly let go of him, seeing how she had left a mark. Her cheeks quickly flushed as she realized what she did. "O-oh, my bad. Guess I don't know my own strength, hehe..."

'Well this is embarrassing-'

"It's fine. I'll see you at you at school, Spins?"

She nodded. "Yeah."

He gave her one last smile before he left, Spinel feeling his hand accidentally brush against hers while he left. A blush began to form at the touch, and she felt her body temprature rise. She felt a million butterflies in her stomache all at once, and best of all, how orgasmic that touch was.

"Ooh~ Somebody's got a boyfriend~" She heard someone sing. Spinel looked to see Sarah leaning against the dressing rooms, smirking mischeivously with her arms crossed. Spinel's blush deepened. How long had she been there?

"Sarah?!" she yelled in surprise as the woman laughed. "First of all, how long have you been there?!"

"Enough to see somebody caught the love bug and has a boyfriend~" She teased. "You were looking at him mighty hard, whose that hunk you were talkin' to?"

She didn't know how much of this she could take. "He's-he's not my boyfriend!"

" *cough* Yet-"

Spinel groaned as she tried covering her red cheeks whilst her grandma was laughing her ass off. "Come on, sugar. I saw how you were practically all over him. That has to be-" She then gasped and smiled in realization. "Aww, you have your first crush!"

"I- shut up- I don't have a crush on him-"

'...Do I? I mean...'

"It's ok, denial is always the first step." She smiled down at the blushing Spinel. "It's alright to have a crush, it's really cute. And he looks like he likes you. Why doncha spend more time with him? Maybe he may end up asking you out."

"Actually, there's a birthday party me, him and his Mary Sue are going to next Saturday. Is it alright if I go?" She asked, though it was a pretty obvious question.

"I wouldn't wanna stand in the way of my precious granddaughter finding love in her life, so of course! Just as long as you come back and tell me all the deets! There is one thing you should know..."

"Yeah?"

"Always, always use protection-"

"Stop it-"

Sarah chuckled once more and they decided to get their shopping at  FOREVER 21 over with. They had at least 16 bags worth for both of them. But that was just the least of it. She had gotten real diamond jewelry, hairties, hair accessories, snow outfits (including a skating one), the best shoes money can buy, and so much more. And that was just before they hit the food court for some cinnamon sticks and hot dogs. Afterwards the backseat and trunk was PACKED with Spinel's new edgy and glam wardrobe. It was all fun, nonetheless, and Spinel even got to drive back.

Back at home, Spinel was in her new magenta PJs with her diary in hand, giving one last entry before she drifted off.

Thursday, September 14th
Dear Journal,
Today I went for some retail therapy with good ol' Sarah. And she meant I could get whatever I wanted! Trust me, I took her word for it. I can't wait to show Steven my new stuff at school, I even got some new perfumes.Speaking of, I saw him at Forever 21 and we chatted. However I decided to flirt with him just to tease him, mainly because he noticed my shirt was tight. You should've seen the blush on his face! It was adorbs. I felt his warmth once I got close to him, and I could hear his rhythmic heartbeat in his chest. It was so great...

Up until the point his friend Mary Sue came along. Though she did tell me about an awesome b-day party for some girl named Tiffany. She sounds like a bitch, tbh, but who am I to judge?

I got Steven's number and he offered to pick me up. I was so happy, I could have hugged him right there! Of course Sarah said he was my crush or something...I mean, he's really cute and nice to me, not to mention how safe I feel around him. But that doesn't mean I'm crushing on him...

...Right?
