Epilogue: Mystery is Love
First's Pov:
Time flies. Just like the mystery did. And here I was, planning what to do about the special day, our first anniversary.
I still remember the day when we started dating and the day we first met. It's just so angelic.
People criticized me, saying that I would regret starting to date someone so early. They said I had proposed too early. But I had ignored them. I had believed if I truly loved someone, it's never too late or early.
I had thought about it multiple times and it didn't matter how many times I could go back, I'd always propose too early. Because if I didn't do it exactly on that day, at that exact time, things might not have been the same anymore.
No one else had ever taken care of me like he had and I knew no one had ever taken care of him like I had either. No one understood me like him.
Even after that case had ended, we, especially I, had to go through a lot of struggles.
I was by his side when he got shot, when he was sad, when he felt worthless, no one else was. I got him to realize that even though it was his job to save people, he was important too. His life was important too.
And he had stayed by my side, during my hardest times, when no one else did. Who else would have done that if not him?
*Flashback*
"We're sorry. We couldn't save him," The doctor announced to First with regret that his beloved father had left the world.
First had done everything in his capability to save him but yet he couldn't. It was written in his fate. When Aon threatened First in the name of his father, he was willing to do anything in order to save him and yet he couldn't save him.
First felt horrible. Like a bad son. He had always felt like a bad person and kept blaming himself when someone he loved got hurt just like how he had once blamed himself for Khaotung getting in accidents twice.
First grabbed his head and sat back at the chair on the sides of the emergency room. He couldn't cry. He wanted to but he couldn't. He felt numb as if he was going to burst out anytime soon...
Khaotung rubbed his hands and put his head on his chest while rubbing his back comfortingly. First wished it could be his father who was rubbing his back yet it wasn't and in a minute or two, he couldn't hold back and had burst out crying on Khaotung's chest. But Khaotung hadn't stopped him. Not even once. "Let it out," He had said.
*End of flashback*
...Seriously...Who else would've? He had every evidence to put me in jail but...he didn't. Because he trusted me. Would I have ever found true, sincere love if not from him? I don't think so.
After the cases, when Aon had told me the truth, I seemed fine but I knew, I wasn't and he knew I wasn't and he had taught me that that was okay. "You're allowed to be weak. At least with me," He had murmured to me before I burst out crying.
He had encouraged me to do everything I had thought was and would be right. He truly trusted me. Even with me wanting to cut ties with my mom. And I felt so free after.
I did send her money when I wanted to but she couldn't text me asking for it anymore. I had blocked her.
And then he was assigned a new case so I worked as his assistant. It was so great. Though brutal, it was nice spending time with him not only during his free time but also during work. For once, we didn't get interrupted by a phone call from his office or something.
And about the whole thing with Aon, Khaotung had always supported me about it, about me being unsure whether to forgive him or not. Even though not fully, I had pretty much forgiven him already though Phi with his name didn't fit in my mouth anymore. But it's fine. Life is too short to hold grudges but I still couldn't wait for him to get out and get the punch he owed me.
When I found out about what happened to Phi Noinae, Khao helped me process things.
I found out that after Phi Noinae left home, she somehow dated a rich guy who promised to take care of her and her baby. She gave birth to a baby boy. But when one day, she and him had a big argument, he left her. And the next thing found out was her body hanging from her house fan and the baby boy was found in an adoption center.
Even after everything I did and hid from him, he stayed by my side. When I had confessed about my involvement with the case, I had expected him to stop, get angry and leave me and I had truly prepared myself for it. But...
He didn't leave me. He asked questions, wanting to know the full story before jumping into any conclusion. He had asked for confirmation. And even though Aon was my own blood related brother, he hadn't once made me feel like I was the criminal as well. He had separated me from him. That we weren't the same person.
Even with Aon doing so many heinous crimes, he hadn't jumped into any conclusion before talking to Aon, while I was totally ready to hate my own brother's guts. That was probably why I often felt like I didn't deserve him. And yet, he still convinced me that there was no such thing as deserve. Everyone had flaws and so did he. He taught me that nobody was perfect in the moment when I really needed to hear it.
Now knowing how special the day was, I needed to plan something special for someone special.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
First had planned something special, not realizing that his opposite side, his beloved lover, was always one step ahead and might be doing the same but in a whole different way. But anyhow, First's surprise finished its preparement first.
First had called Khaotung up, "Tung? Can you come to my apartment?" First had asked. Khaotung seemed quite busy but way less than annoyed in any way.
"Okay, coming right up," He had answered, teasing as if he was a waiter waiting for First's order. His smile could be seen right through the phone.
Khao's Pov:
First had called me in the morning around 11 a.m. He's so cute. He seemed excited when he called. I had assumed that he had prepared a surprise since that was our first anniversary which quickly got clearer the moment I came out of the car and he ran to hold my eyes shut.
With slow, steady steps, he guided me through the door. His hands were larger than mine so I could see basically nothing through his hands.
In a moment, after I bumped into a few stuff grazing with my foot, I had understood those were balloons. "Can I see now?" I asked as he stopped me at a spot that I knew was beautiful before I could even see it.
With a nod I felt from him, he opened his hands to let me see through. My jaw immediately fell. I looked around in amusement.
The room was filled with balloons and small colorful lights all around the room. Not only that room, but the whole house. The room I was in was the guest room that, which I knew was still in construction so was yet to have any furniture.
He had taken the opportunity to decorate the room like in romantic movies. There were pictures of us hanging on the walls. He even made sure the tapes couldn't be seen. There was a projector on the floor that reflected something on the roof of the room.
"Happy anniversary, my love," The main writing on the reflection said. It was written in a beautiful blue ish color along with a gorgeous cursive font. Under the main title, there was written a small subtitle. "I can't believe it has already been a year." That writing was written in a shade of pink, unknown to me. And was in the usual writing font.
I turned to look at First who was already teary eyed from seeing my reaction to the stuff he did. I jumpily wrapped my arms around his neck to hug him which led me to tiptoe because of my short height compared to him. He hugged me back tighter.
"Thank you, FirFir," I murmured, slowly leaning before detaching my head from his shoulder to kiss his cheek. He just nodded and gave me the glimpse of that same familiar smile. But I had to say he smelled great. He smelled like tulips. Did he really buy a perfume that smelled like tulips?
He slowly departed from the hug before grabbing my hand and dragging me towards the bedroom, which was even more decorated. His smile got even brighter, if that was even possible.
While entering, I saw rose and tulip petals on the way to the room and there was such on the bed as well. But the center of the bed caught my attention. It was a small box, wrapped in sky blue wrapping paper with a white bow on top.
First slowly led me to sit on the bed and so I did. He somehow clumsily picked up the gift box and started watching it thoroughly as if trying to find flaws in the gift and wrapping that was nonexistent.
With a swift move, he handed me the box, his hands slightly shaking. It was the first time someone had arranged such a thing for me and I knew it was his too, especially from the way he was behaving. My hands were quite obviously shaking as well as I began to unwrap the present.
Under the wrapping paper was a red slim, square box. I opened the box to find two little pendants inside which made a heart together and spelled the word, "Love".
A wide smile took over my whole face as I looked at First with clear admiration. His smile not fading for any moment either as he slowly reached out for one of the pendants. He flipped it and behind the pendant, was written the letter K. He opened the pendant and slowly put it on me.
"Put it on for me too," First murmured near my ear once he was done. I repeated the same process until both of us were laying on the bed, overwhelmed with joy.
But nothing ended there. After a while, I held his hand and dragged him out of his apartment. "Where are you taking me?" He had wondered with that same smile engraved on his face as he didn't even bother to push me away.
"It's a surprise," I murmured while opening the door to my car. I made him sit on the passenger seat before turning to the other side to sit on the driver's seat.
"What surprise?" He asked again. He wasn't bothered. He was rather excited to know.
"It wouldn't be a surprise if I tell you," I mumbled and slowly took out a piece of red cloth that I had shoved in my pocket. Leaning in towards First, I wrapped the cloth around his eyes.
"Hey!" He flinched in annoyance and made a pout with his lips but didn't say anything further than that. I started the engine to my car and drove away.
First's Pov:
Khaotung finally stopped his car after driving for what felt like an eternity. I could feel him get out of the car towards my side. I suddenly felt his hand on my back so I slowly got up from the seat towards where he wanted to take me.
Carefully, he guided me towards a few steps up the apartment he was taking me to.
It wasn't his office. It was somewhere new. His office didn't have steps at the entrance. He told me to stand at the entrance as he opened the door to the apartment, unlike his office's door, I didn't hear a squeak.
He slowly led me inside so I didn't know whichever room and once inside, he finally removed the blindfold from my eyes. We were in a quite luxurious apartment. It had wooden furniture. The room we were in was the bedroom. The bed looked so comfortable. Looking around, I realized almost every wall was painted some shade of blue. Blue, both mine and Tung's favorite color.
When I turned to look at Khaotung, I was shocked. He was on one knee, his hand in front asking for my hand as he looked at me right in the eyes. His eyes were more sparkly than ever. "Move in with me?" He asked. I couldn't hold back my tears. They fell out like a waterfall that was blocked for a long time. I nodded my head swiftly before landing my hand on his.
He stood up slowly, his hand still grazing with mine, rubbing like two long lost soulmates. He stood right ever so close to me and murmured near my ear, "Beautiful, isn't it?" He looked around the room and then at me, that same sincerity taking all over his eyes.
"Hmm..," I replied before taking a deep breath and looking at the window of the bedroom.
The sunshine coming from the window and falling on us, just so beautiful. The warm breeze of Tung's breath brushed against my shoulder as he looked at me, his eyes drifting from my eyes to my lips, his gaze ever so soft.
I looked at him, trying to figure out how I had found my perfect soulmate. My glare drifted to his lips as well as the light behind us fell brighter blindingly.
We both leaned in ever so slowly before our lips finally met halfway, both hands leaning forward to caress each others precious necks, eyes closing on their own. For a second, the whole world felt like disappearing around us. As if it was just me, him and the ray of sunshine left in the world.
The sunshine proves the love we have for each other.
The End.
