The Pomeranian
Lunch had concluded and it was almost time for math class to begin but as Sooyeong sat behind her desk on this lovely afternoon (lovely because she hasn't had any hassles with Nayeon or Ahro today) her mind boggled as fast as the nimbus two thousand.
Today, inside her locker she had found two sticky notes, both of which were the same colour; like a fading pink and each note had their own little message written over it.
Initially she thought the sticky notes on the locker saga was just a one-day thing but now she wasn't so sure. Even the handwriting wasn't familiar at all. She wondered if perhaps that person may have forgotten to paste it when everyone else did.
In any case, the first note read:
'Shine. Dream. Smile.'
Behind each word held so much meaning for her personally.
Shine reminded her of the stars and her mother who always shone as bright as them in everything she did.
Dream reminded her of her career path and her father who always encouraged her to follow her dreams.
And lastly, smile. That simple word reminded her of all of the positives that surrounded her in her life such as the Café Shooky Oppa's, her two pabo friends, Seokjin together with his self-love proses and his friendship with Namjoon who sometimes advised her on some really good reads, and last but most definitely not least, there was Taehyung.
All of them had given her reason's to smile; reasons to be happy.
She sat back in her chair and stared at her open journal with the two sticky notes pasted side by side.
The second note was a little different than the first. It was more like a confession of some sort and Sooyeong didn't know what to make of it. It read:
'You're getting to know my heart too. I want to keep this going.'
Although this note reminded her of Taehyung since they recently reconnected, she immediately expelled the thought mostly because Taehyung was brutally honest with his opinions and if he wanted to speak his mind he would - directly to you. That was the type of person she thought him to be.
But overall she couldn't deny that these notes were pretty cute and whoever put that much thought it into it made her feel a sense of wholesomeness.
Her thoughts were suddenly broken when her desk jerked toward her. She looked up in surprise and her eyes immediately latched on to Taehyung's slightly doubled over form. She watched him groan while his right palm rubbed over his right thigh.
She cocked a brow at the unusual sight and thought that he must have hit his thigh on the corner of the desk by accident. She scrunched her nose slightly and thought that it would definitely turn a shade of blue later on.
Despite his pain, he quickly settled down in his seat but not without being extra dramatic first. He managed to make an acute angle with his body thanks to his butt sticking out towards the head of his chair. All the while Jungkook stared at him with his lips pressed to the straw of his banana milk.
'Korea's ass,' she thought with a slight airy chuckle. 'Everyone's whipped.' She shut her journal and tucked it underneath her Math notebook.
"And hello to you too Van Gogh ssi." She shot while staring at him because her didn't even bat an eye her way. "Did you enjoy lunch?" She asked, since Nayeon was breathing down his neck, trying to probe Sooyeong from across the cafeteria but she knew better.
He completely ignored her words and just sat frozen. It was like time had completely stopped for him yet at the same it was crystal clear that his thigh was still throbbing in pain and as for that lump in his blazer - who was he trying to fool? Everyone knew it was his hidden snacks.
She couldn't believe that he had already stocked up on them to go another round. It seemed like he really did want to fatten her up in his grandmother's stead and if she dared decline he would definitely mention the ahjussi again - the struggles of emotional blackmail.
She sighed after getting no response then turned to open up her Math notebook.
"Lunch was great," He suddenly admitted and they both made eye contact after his words. He didn't seem as tense now. His transitions still amazed her. "Well not for the most part... Had to get up and leave at one point."
She only nodded with a soft oh.
She didn't know that he had left the lunch table but that was only because she couldn't stand Nayeon and her desperate and very thirsty behaviour anymore, so on that account she had left the cafeteria.
It was after that when she found the two sticky notes in her locker.
After their somewhat awkward talk (because normally Taehyung would be all over the place ranting about various things) math class had started and Sejin, the teacher, resumed his lesson on the different trigonometry ratio's.
But alas, as Sooyeong tried to concentrate on the task at hand she couldn't because Taehyung was being a distraction, again, and it wasn't because of how attractive he looked. It was mainly due to his not so subtle shuffles within his seat.
At random intervals he would obnoxiously let out a few very obvious fake coughs but in the midst of it all she could wager her entire Harry Potter book collection that at one point she heard a low muffled bark come from his direction.
Amazingly though, he only acted as if nothing just happened and that only made her abundantly curious so she suddenly poked at his shoulder knowing full well that she would not get his attention with words alone.
"Yah?" she cooed and in surprise he looked to the area she had poked then up at her, "Is your snacks alive? What are you hiding in there?"
He only gave a sheepish smile with an awkward laugh, "Nothing."
She cocked a brow at his response. She didn't believe him for one second so she attempted to reach a hand out to his blazer to poke at the lumpy part of it when -
"Min ssi?"
She had a heart attack then and there.
It was Sejin. And he had his glasses pulled to the brim of his nose while he stared in their direction. "Since you find Kim ssi rather interesting why don't the both of you give me the fraction of one of the trig ratio's of SOH CAH TOA. And the remaining one will be given by Jeon ssi."
Jungkook suddenly shot up in a shock from his half sleeping position after hearing his name, "Pardon?" he asked with confused doe eyes.
"Trig ratio's." He informed before he looked away from a shooketh Jungkook then at the two he addressed a second ago.
"Um..." Sooyeong spoke up first, in a soft tone seeing as Taehyung seemed to be overstressed. "SOH is sine equals to the opposite over the hypotenuse..."
Sejin nodded his head but as she spoke Taehyung had been extra fidgety but by the time it was his turn to speak the apparent snack had escaped the confines of his navy blazer and launched itself on to his desk.
Everyone's faces had melted into shock. All eyes suddenly landed on a fluffy and small, probably about an average hand sized puppy that was eerily similar to the one Sooyeong had seen yesterday from the classroom window.
The little puppy was evidently mad seeing as it barked ferociously at Taehyung who only had a displeased look on his features since his secret was out. He attempted to calm it down by gently petting it but to no avail.
The teacher finally came to his senses at the unusual sight and stepped towards Taehyung while Sooyeong only stared at the ball of fur with mixed emotions.
She never familiarised herself with dogs nor dog breeds because when she was little she had a traumatic incident with one of the neighbour's pet dogs and ever since she's feared them.
"Care to explain the meaning of this Kim ssi? Why is there a mutt in your school blazer?" Sejin looked puzzled but Taehyung only radiated a heartbroken expression and his lips quickly morphed into a frown.
"Sejin-nim!" He fake cried, "I found this beautiful creature roaming the yards of the school all alone..."
Sooyeong zoned out and looked down at her desk. She realised that is really was that same dog which she had spooked yesterday, by accident. She knew this because of its two tone colour of its fur which matched the one from yesterday moreover it was just as tiny.
"Soo ah! The puppy!"
Sooyeong was pulled out of her rustling thoughts by Jimin's panicked voice and she noticed the puppy perched up on the sill with its little paws peeking out the window. Her eyes widened at the sight and with a gasp she impulsively leaped to catch it before it could tumble over.
Once in her arms, she cradled it and somehow it sat there so peacefully. All of her thoughts about her neighbours dog had suddenly been pushed to the far stretches of her mind. Maybe the little puppy just needed a comfortable place to rest?
After she brought herself back to reality she finally looked up at both Taehyung and Sejin.
"... It's owner probably abandoned it, how can you not feel sorry for it Sejin-nim?" Taehyung wailed then ended his heart-wrenching speech with a dramatic clutch to the chest that everyone oohing in admiration.
Sejin only sighed as his thumb and index finger drew circles on his temples. He knew Taehyung was being over dramatic but at the same time he very well knew of his caring nature - everybody did. "That's a very tear-jerking story Kim ssi but if you wouldn't mind could you kindly escort it out of class and find it a safe place to settle, so there will be no more disrupti-"
Taehyung wasted no time in shooting upward. His chair dragged behind him, completely unbothered that he just cut Sejin off. He flung his already packed backpack over his shoulder before he turned to a very surprised Sooyeong with a gleaming smile over his features.
"Also, would you please take Min ssi with you. It seems like the dog has taken a much better liking to her than you." He smiled warmly at his student. As for Taehyung he hastily packed up her things and swung it over his other shoulder. "Ah, a females touch makes all the difference, it seems." He ended before both Taehyung and Sooyeong slipped out of the classroom.
The both of them walked through the quite hallways while Taehyung mentioned how nice it was for Sejin to dismiss them but Sooyeong on the other hand couldn't help but look down at the puppy which rested ever so peacefully in her arms. It was such a contrast from its barking outburst just a short while ago.
"Hmm Sooyeong ah." Taehyung repeatedly poked her cheek to get her out of her daze but to his surprise she suddenly looked his way which ultimately caused his index finger to glide over her bottom lip, in a single slick motion.
Her eyes fluttered in shock at the sudden and rather pleasurably tingling sensation of his touch, but on the flip side Taehyung simply froze for barely even a moment before he quickly pulled away his hand from her delicate lips.
He turned his body away from her as a full on blush graced his cheeks yet he still brought himself the trouble of looking down at his fingertip only to notice a soft pink chapstick that stained the tip of his slender finger.
Sooyeong on the other hand swallowed hard and through much effort she pushed away the thought of him touching her lips which had somehow left a lasting, rather tingling sensation lingering on her bottom lip.
"W-What are we going to do now?" she bit her bottom lip in order to erase the tingle it felt and she never looked his way.
Once Taehyung managed to compose himself he shoved his hands into his pockets then he pondered about her question.
Within his pocket, his thumb and index finger glided over each other for no particular reason, "I don't think he's domesticated because I don't see a collar around his neck but I'm not sure as yet..."
Sooyeong peeked over at the puppy and as Taehyung had concluded there was no collar on him.
She pouted, "I'd love to take him home but I'm kind of afraid of dogs and I don't think I'd be allowed to keep a pet at home."
She said the latter mostly because her living circumstances wouldn't exactly provide luxury or even allow for a pets basic needs. It would probably get lost somewhere in the storage pile or worse; end up hurt.
"You're afraid of dogs?" he looked appalled and by now he had Sooyeong's backpack strapped over his chest.
"Hm." She hummed with a nod but Taehyung only made efforts to relieve her of the puppy. "Ah! No." She gently pulled away from him.
"What?" he drawled. "Didn't you just say you're afraid of them?" his voice deepened in concern.
"Yes, but... it's asleep." She looked up at him with a subtle expression. "If he wakes up then."
"You sure?" he cocked a brow.
"Just give me a second Tae ah, let me at least give myself the illusion that I'm conquering my fear of dogs."
"Your brain works in weird ways." He stated and a small smile tugged at his lips.
"And yours doesn't?" she playfully brushed her head against his arm, seeing as her hands were occupied.
"See! A total nutcase." He chuckled while he patted down her hair because it gained a little static from his blazer.
"Yah... Why are you so annoying?" She pouted. "What kind of a boy calls a girl a nutcase?"
"And what kind of a girl asks a boy to paint her like a French girl?" he shot with his eyebrows furrowed and a satisfied look on his face.
She stopped dead in her tracks, "Taeeeeeee~." She whined and her bottom lip puckered out more. "I told you it was a joke! I'm not planning to strip in front of you, namjesus."
He stifled a laugh at her flustered state but internally, he himself burned like an inferno which could not even be dwindled by the coldest of winters.
Why would she have to say something like that? Obviously his mind was going to think of obscene things.
"Who knows maybe you might..." He sent her a pervy look formed by a wide smile and crescent shaped eyes.
Her jaw dropped six feet under and she attempted to kick him in the butt anime style. "I see your testosterone levels keep intensifying! Why are you like this?"
He only laughed but alas their flirtatious yet not so flirtatious behaviour awoke the little puppy. It suddenly popped out of Sooyeong's hold in a barking fit and swiftly bolted down the hallway with its little paws.
They both exchanged shocked glances before they both bulleted down the hallway as well but obviously Taehyung with his longer legs took larger strides than her (despite all of the baggage he carried) and she trailed behind him as fast as she could.
As she ran her gaze was stuck on Taehyung's back and soon enough he took a sharp and fast turn to the left then he disappeared completely out of sight.
She tried her best to catch up but that was when she heard it. Abrupt skidding marks over where Taehyung had just turned into then a thud and a deafening silence followed suit.
"Taehyung ah!" She yelled, concerned at the sounds she had just heard.
Finally, she rounded the corner and instantly she caught sight of Taehyung.
He was in a sitting position over the floor. His legs were sprawled out in front of him and he panted, heavily. As for the puppy it rested within his secure grasp and it seemed to have calmed down now.
She quickly stepped toward him then crouched down, "He's not the bashful type that's for sure."
"Pomeranians... are... very... active..." He breathlessly stated and Sooyeong simply watched as his chest rose and fell beneath his cardigan. His head also leaned against the locker behind him for support then in a swift motion he pushed his slightly wet hair back which fabulously revealed his forehead.
Sooyeong only swallowed the lump which had formed in her throat after the sight of him - it was official, she has been swept off her feet, wig aggressively snatched and it was definitely Cupid's arrow to the ass and not a bullet to the heart. To put it simply she was whipped for the boy in front of her.
She quickly shook herself out of her wilding thoughts and asked, "You sounded like you took a hard fall, did you get hurt anywhere?"
There was a short silence which was intermittently filled with Taehyung's breathing and she felt as if she was listening to an asmr.
"I think I broke my abacus."
"Yah!" She slapped him hard on the thigh and he groaned in response. "This is not the time to make SpongeBob references. And you say my brain works weirdly."
She swiftly got up, annoyed at his answer because she was genuinely concerned for him.
"Ah! Watch your skirt Soo..." He voiced from the ground then shut his eyes but contrary, his lips played with a small smirk.
"I can't with you anymore Taehyung ah." She rolled her eyes skyward then bent to hover in front of him. He sensed her presence and opened up an eye only to see her sweet lips in a devilish smirk. "Just give me the pup and you can drag yourself to the nurses office."
His face filled with shock, and he held tighter onto the black tanned puppy. "You're just going to leave me here?"
"Taehyung ah." She sighed at his sudden innocence. "Just tell me. Where did you get hurt?" she crouched down fully and looked at him with a soft look.
"Nowhere, but I think I might have broken something in your backpack because I did land on my chest." His tone was apologetic.
She only smiled, "There's nothing valuable in there, don't worry. Just get up." She offered him a hand which he gladly took.
With all of her strength she helped to pull him back onto his feet but as she did a few groans left his lips and she looked at him worriedly.
"Are you sure you're fine?" She asked, and offered to take the puppy from him which he handed over.
While the puppy snuggled in her arms Taehyung slowly stretched out his body, releasing all of the tension that formed in his muscles.
"Ah, that feels so much better."
She bit on her lip. She wasn't whipped for no good reason, "Okay, so now that we've concluded that you don't need the nurse, what are we going to do about him?"
"I was thinking maybe we should put him up for adoption..." He suggested with a pensive look.
"Adoption?" she queried, puzzled. "You have any ideas on how we're going to do that?"
He nodded as a yes.
"You must have definitely hit something delicate when you fell." She joked then leaned forward to get a glimpse at him but he shot her a cockeyed look with heart shaped lips. "Yes, you definitely did." They both chuckled before finally reaching the janitor's room.
There, Taehyung shuffled with the door knob.
"So what's your idea exactly?" She drawled as she stared at the white door that stood in front of them.
"We need a box from here so we can make a pen for him." He explained and finally got the door open. "We'll leave him in school and see if anyone wants him."
She nodded in accordance to his plan. It wasn't such a bad idea.
"I would take care of him myself but my grandfather is not fond of dog's." He declared before heading inside the little room.
Sooyeong silently watched him from where she stood. He rummaged through all the cleaning utensils similarly as Jungkook would normally do at her Outhouse and she thought that at this point they should just go over to her place because there were plenty of boxes to go around.
"Shouldn't we like let the janitor know that we're taking his stuff?" she questioned, innocently, just as Taehyung graced her with his presence and an empty standard sized box.
"You want to leave him a note?" His head cocked to the side at her cuteness.
"Yes because technically we're stea- kya!" She yelped in surprise after the puppy suddenly barked and pawed at her blazer.
Taehyung's lips parted into a smile and he motioned for her to put the puppy inside of the box and so she did, not wanting to take any chances.
He placed the box on the floor while the puppy rolled around and Sooyeong unzipped her backpack all the while having him stare down at her since it was strapped against his chest.
She pulled out a pack of powder blue sticky notes and a pen before writing down a note for the elder man that helped to keep the school tidy.
She placed the pack of sticky notes over the door and as neatly as she could she wrote a short message while Taehyung only bent down to her level to read as she wrote.
Ahjussi Yun,
We're so sorry for taking one of your boxes without asking but we really needed it.
Thank you. ☺️
-MSY and KTH from Class 3-A.
And with those words she ripped off the note and pasted it on to the door. She then threw her stuff back into her backpack and took it back from Taehyung.
The two made their way towards the school entrance, where Taehyung set the box down in a well sheltered area that was neither directly in the sunlight nor in anyone's way but it was in the perfect spot for people to notice it as they walk by.
"I think it's missing something." Taehyung declared, feeling unsure with his efforts.
"It's missing quite a few things Tae ah."
He stared at her as she crouched beside his crossed-legged position, patiently waiting for her to explain herself.
"Like our names. So if anyone wants him they can contact us." She explained then took out some marker pens and handed it to him. "And it's missing food and warmth."
Taehyung quickly placed the marker pens on the floor and removed his blazer then he further removed his cardigan which dishevelled his hair in the process. Afterwards he handed it to Sooyeong and she felt her heart puddle at his gesture.
Nevertheless, she placed the cardigan into the box in hopes that the puppy would use it as a source of warmth whenever he needed it.
Taehyung then pulled out a pack of treats and once again handed it to her but she only looked at him, with his wayward hair, suspiciously - he seemed mighty prepared for something that didn't happen everyday.
"What? I bought these during lunch when I found him." He pouted and went on to scribble over the box but Sooyeong simply shrugged and gently laid out the packet full of treats for the puppy to devour.
"By the way we need to give him a name..." Taehyung mumbled. "Because it needs to go on the box..."
"Why don't you choose a name since you found him?" She suggested with a smile.
He pursed his lips in thought for a while but as he thought she watched the puppy shuffle to get underneath Taehyung's cardigan - such a lucky dog.
"Yeontan!"
His sudden yell surprised her which pried her eyes towards him.
"Yeontan?" she repeated. "Doesn't that mean Coal Briquettes?"
"Yes, it does," Taehyung declared and scribbled over the box. "He's patched mostly black and Coal Briquettes are used for home heating and everyone knows the saying, home is where the heart is. So, didn't he warm up your heart?"
"Taehyung ah, your brain really does work in weird ways." A soft laugh left her lips and she re-styled his hair. "And yes he did, although his rapid barks are still kind of scary."
"You'll get accustomed to it, just give it some time..." He said and finally leaned back in accomplishment as he overlooked the words he wrote over the box.
Sooyeong's eyes darted from him and down to the box as well.
Over the box it read:
Yeontan's temporary home.
Don't make fun of him, take care of him ~
And if you want to adopt him contact any of the below.
Kim Taehyung or Min Sooyeong from Class 3-A.
She smiled, "I hope someone adopts him soon."
Taehyung nodded as his slender, perfect hand gently ran over the sleeping puppy's head, "I wish it could be me though. I've always wanted a dog."
She gently touched his shoulder, "Maybe you can try and convince your grandfather. You'll never know, he might have a change of heart."
"I guess so..." A small smile took over his features then he looked up at her. "By the way, were you really going to leave me for dead in the hallway?"
She groaned and playfully chucked his blazer at him, "Obviously not! I'm not that evil, Tae ah."
"That evil?" he repeated and she nodded with pursed lips. "I really don't think you're evil at all,"
She looked baffled at his words.
"Especially since you've helped me with Yeontan despite being afraid of dogs."
She gave him a warm smile, "Anything to get out of Math class."
He cocked a brow.
"I'm joking." She chuckled softly. "You're here so I wasn't worried that much."
He smiled, "I'll always be here for you and I promise I won't leave again because I want to learn everything about you."
