Lily couldn't hide her disappointment that Severus wouldn't be in the same house as her. He was the one who had introduced her to this world, and being without him seemed ridiculous.

Severus looked to Lily in hopes that she would give him a grin and a thumbs up. Instead, what he received was a half-smile and a wave. This did nothing to settle his nerves, because the first person to show him kindness was sitting two tables away. Severus reached his seat and sat down. His vision blurry as he looked back up to the hat.
"How could you?" He asked in his head,"How could you separate me from her?"

Lily stood up in her chair to see Severus with his head down on the table. She wanted to see the strong, happy child that she had met back home. Instead, all she saw was a young, heartbroken boy.
