" Be my girlfriend?"

"A new love is something painful
Two hearts, unstable
I went numb and ran away so I wouldn't be able to get let down,
I was high to touch the ground from the sky
A new love is somethin' fatal and I wouldn't be able
I wasn't expecting you
Like a punch that knocks the wind out
I think you're changin' everything
'Cause I'm about to let you in now"

"Drew?"

Emily pressed her phone closer to her ear, as she stepped into the elevator, with Chad behind her. He was dressed in a black and white striped suit, with a black tie hanging from his neck. He had his brown hair jelled upward, and a transparent medicated glass hugging his eyes.

His left hand occupied a black hard back folder, and on his right hand, Emily's red leather handbag, dangled from it.

Immediately they got into the elevator, he scampered forward and pressed down the close door button, seeing as there was no one else wanting to come in with them.

The frown on Emily's face deepened as Drew's sobs continued to fill the line.

"What are you saying Drew? I can't hear you clearly."

Chad stood beside her now, with eyes fixed straight ahead, staring at nothing, but the closed elevator door. Still, Emily could tell he was eaves dropping. She smirked, and shook her head softly.

"Drew, are you on your period? Does it hurt that much today?"

Chad cleared his throat awkwardly, finding interest, not on the doors this time around, but on the files on his hands. Emily chuckled at the sight of him, standing with her bag clutched onto his arms, and his fingers flipping through the pages of the file.

"No! No. Emily. No." Drew shouted back, and Emily had to pull the phone away from her ears for a few seconds. She softly poked Chad when he chuckled out.

He then stood erect, adjusted his glass on his face and resumed his stare on the door again.

"Fuck it Drew. I am so tired, so please, be clear with me on what's going on with you!"

Honestly, Emily was more than tired. She was exhausted, she was angry, almost always at nothing in particular. She had constant headaches, and her breasts, which were gradually increasing in size, felt sore.

She was just four weeks into her pregnancy, and she felt like dying already.

Drew murmured a short apology, and cleared her throat.

"Good. I can hear you better now. What were you crying about?" She asked, and patiently waited for Drew's reply. Her answer came in less than two seconds, and Emily could hear the smile that accompanied her friend's voice.

"Jameson popped the question."

"Hand it over young man."

Outside of the company, Emily and Chad stood beside her car, it was already late, and all Emily wanted to do was go home, and run into the sweet, soft comfort of her bed.

Reluctantly, Chad released her bag from his hold and handed it over to her, with a slight frown on his face.

"Thank you." She said, and unlocked her car.

"I can drive you, if you want." He replied, with concerned eyes.

"Chad, I am pregnant, not crippled. I can drive myself."

Apart from Drew, Chad was the only person who knew that Emily was pregnant. He was a trust worthy person, and also acted as a caring friend, so Emily felt no need to hide it from him. But ever since then, the usual awkward looking Chad had turned into a protective Knight.

Aside from the fact that he was her personal secretary, he had also assigned to himself, the role of being her personal chauffeur. Every morning, he was at her place by six on the dot, something he never failed to do for the past one week, and Emily felt grateful for that. She would offer him a raise for the extra help, but he was always quick to decline.

He nodded his head firmly, and helped her close the car door.

"See you tomorrow ma'am."

"I don't think I'll come to the office tomorrow Chad, so I'm leaving everything in your hands. Don't call me, unless it crucial, I trust you can handle everything here for the day?" She turned to him, with a questioning look. She knew she didn't need to ask, Chad was capable of anything. He was a blessing.

He smiled lightly and nodded his head.

"Definitely ma'am."

With that said, Emily drove off. Her eyes watched him, until she was completely out of the company's vicinity, and on full speed, home.

She hoped Chad would find a better woman, that he could be bold with. He never said a word to Drew, and look how it turned out. Another guy took his spot.

Just like another woman.. women, was going to take her spot in his life.

Did she even have any spot in his life?

Was there ever a spot for her?

More importantly, did she for once give him a chance?

Her mind ran back to the text he had sent her earlier today at the office. A part of her had controlled her enough to ignore it, but there was this other part that wanted to see him.

To hear his corny jokes again.

To feel the touch of his skin against hers.

To feel his lips touch hers.

To feel him inside of her.

Did she make a mistake by ending things with him?

She had done it for herself. For Drew. Her company. It should have made her feel better that she still had her kingdom built so high and strong. She just hated the fact that when she was with him, those walls that surrounded her kingdom didn't feel so strong again.

With him, she felt vulnerable. Weak. And she had always convinced herself that she was a strong woman. So strong, that she couldn't let anybody make this much a mess of her.

When the green traffic light came on, she swerved left, instead of right.

Right led to home... but left... it led to him.

She was beginning to doubt that there was any much difference between the two.

~^~^~

She hadn't texted him back, or called.

Logan flicked on the silver lighter in his hands. The yellow flame came alive for a minute, and then it was gone.

He had seen her that night, at the bar. He had touched her.

But she just went away. Disappeared into thin air. Just like that.

So simple.

Why was he acting like a fool?

He flicked the lighter on again, and off it went.

After that night, it had been awkward with him and Mine, and the next morning, she had packed her things up and apologized to him.

Logan tried to tell her that he was completely okay by it. He did return her kiss after all, right?

Then, she had thrown the bomb at him, and he just didn't know how to react to it.

"I love you...

I love you Logan. Are you still okay with that?"

The way her eyes stabbed his, as she said those words, Logan could not forget it. Little by little, tears began to brim in her eyes.

"You didn't get it silly? I had come back here for you, and not Greg's wedding. That was only an excuse!"

"Mi-- Mine I --"

What was the best answer to give to one of your closest friends, who just confessed to you, that she liked you, and not just in a friendly way.

Logan didn't have an answer to that.

"For years Logan, I have watched you smile at other women. Fuck them. Why can't you just do that with me too?!"

She had screamed, staring at him deeply while they stood at the entrance of his room door.

"Mine, why would you say something like that?" He scowled deeply.

"You want me to just fuck you, like I do with other women? You're not just any woman Mine, you're like-- You-"

"Like what Logan? A fucking little sister?" She scoffed bitterly.

"Well, sorry to burst your bubble, but I am not your sister. We aren't related by blood, you don't know me from Adam, and neither do I. We're two completely different people Logan. Why can't you look at me like that for once? I left everything to come here for you. Huh?" The tears streamed down her eyes.

"Mine. Because I love you, I will be honest with you. I fuck only. I don't do relationship shit. You know that. What I have with you is real, it's a strong friendship, and I don't want to wreck that. I am so sorry for kissing you back last night, and I am so sorry for spending that night with you years ago. Don't make this hard for both of us, please. Let's just forget all these and be there for Greg on his big day."

She had stormed out of his house immediately, and the only time he had seen her again, was the week later, at Greg's wedding. He had tried to talk to her, but she did everything within her best to avoid him.

He leaned deeper into the soft couch, and pulled out a ciggarate stick from the golden packet lying on the table. Again, he flicked the lighter on, and brought the flame to the tip of the stick.

Inhale..

Exhale..

A continuous routine that brought him peace, with his eyes shut tight and the burning smell of the smoke enclosing around him.

So much drama in his life right now.

He wasn't used to all these.

He didn't need them. He was perfectly fine without them before.

Logan could not remember the last time he had fucked a girl, and actually enjoyed it. All he could think about was her.

The other girls he had met weren't as fierce as her, they weren't daring, they weren't funny.

They didn't break his vase and promise to buy him a new one. They didn't demand strip tease from him. They didn't---

A light tap at his door stopped his train of thoughts. He sat up, and rubbed his temples tiredly, before standing up.

As he walked closer to the door, he took a deep drag from the ciggarate in his hands, and opened the door.

On seeing her.. standing right at his front. He exhaled out, the silver white smoke danced along the cold night air, and covered her face, blurring his vision of her.

Immediately the smoke cleared out, he found himself staring straight right at her. Her thin lips pressed into a tight line.

She took in a sharp, harsh breath before speaking.

"I guess we're even now."

~^~^~^~

"You said you wanted to meet up?" She raised her left eyebrow at his direction. She was seated on the couch that he had vacated, with her legs crossed, while he still stood at the door, which was now closed.

He didn't think that she'd actually come. Not that he wasn't happy that she did come, he was just--

"I saw it late." He spoke out.

She frowned at him.

"I don't keep up with the news that much, so I don't really get to know what's happening in the world, so I saw it a bit too late. Your wedding. It didn't hold."

Realization finally dawned on her face, and she looked away from him.

"Is that why you wanted to meet up?" She asked. Her eyes moved back to him as he walked away from the door, and slowly, to her direction.

"Are you okay?" Concern was very visible in his brown eyes.

"I saw that you collapsed on that day, hence the reason why the wedding couldn't hold. So are you alright?"

Emily didn't reply him. All she could do was stare into his eyes. She could get lost in them, God.

"Why do you care?" She blurted out, and the scowl deepened on Logan's face. He took a sit opposite her, and folded his arms across his chest.

"Because I care."

"Emily, I care about you. I know I might sound crazy, but you're not married to this Christian guy, you don't even seem like you want to be. Since the wedding was called off, I don't even know what the both of you are, so why can't we be together?" his eyes softened, staring at her.

"Logan we discussed this--"

"It's not cheating if you're no longer with him. Can't we just go back to the way we were before? Maybe be better?"

She scoffed at his words.

"Better how?"

"Well," he smirked. "..you could be my girlfriend?" He shrugged. Emily stared at him with amusement written all over her face.

"You don't date. You're not ready for a relationship yet." She said. Before Logan could say anything, she interrupted him.

"Not my words. Yours."

"And what if I am ready now?"

"I'll be happy for you, but it can't happen between us. I'm sorry."

The tense atmosphere was back. Thick frustrating silence filled the air, and the two people in the midst of all these, could only stare at each other.

"Why?" Logan's eyes suddenly found quick interest on the tiled floor.

"He is still my fiancé. Keeping whatever this is between us, it's going to destroy everything I've worked so hard to build, and I can't. I can't do that."

Logan nodded his head calmly, with his head still faced down.

"I love you."

Emily's eyes shot up to stare at him. Shock filled every part of her being. She was not expecting to hear this.

"Yeah. I do. I love you." he chuckled.

"And that's what I needed to meet up to tell you princess."

"No. You don't." Still shock filled, Emily replied. She grabbed her bag from the ground, and stood up in a swift movement.

"I told you before princess. If I like some one, I let them know, and if I don't, I do too. We're always so blunt with each other, I don't get the need to hide this from you." he finally looked up to stare at her. The expression she had on her face was both confusing and provoking at the same time.

Her light green eyes blinked back rapidly, her lips trembled slightly, and she would stare at everything, except his face. She didn't move forward or backward, even though she had stood up.

"Logan.." she whispered.

"Can't you give me a chance? Please?" he mumbled. Standing on his feet, he walked closer to her. So close, that he could feel her hot breath hit his face. He held onto her arms with his hand, and the other hand moved to her chin, and lifted them up, till her eyes were looking deep into his.

"I'm a good guy. You know I'll treat you right princess."

Logan smiled sadly.

Emily shut her eyes close, tightly, and then they fluttered open again. Before Logan could register anything that was happening, she stood on her tippy toes and covered his lips with hers.

It was a brief kiss. Very brief. Just the touch of both lips, like a peck, and then, she pulled out.

"I want you too.. so much. But I have to do what's best for my child..

For our child."
