Chapter 11
Author's Note: I forgot to mention in the previous chapter that Clark and Blaine decided to have Kurt transferred to Colombia Regional Hospital which is the one that Clark works at. Just pretend that they got him transferred after he woke up.
Blaine and Dr. Wilson ran into to Kurt's room. The oxygen alarm was going off. Kurt's O2 stats were rapidly declining. Dr. Wilson pressed the call button. A nurse ran in and Dr. Wilson said,
"I need an intubation kit and 5 cc of Propofol." The nurse ran out and returned shortly. She handed the kit to Dr. Wilson and pushed the Propofol into Kurt's IV. Dr. Wilson laid the bed flat and intubated Kurt. Blaine just stood at the edge of the bed and fought back tears. Once Dr. Wilson had made sure that the tube was secure and attached to oxygen, she listened to Kurt's lungs. They were raspy. She removed her stethoscope and turned to Blaine and said, "I am pretty sure that he has pneumonia, once his oxygen levels come back up I want to get a chest x-ray to confirm. I am going to start him on a round of antibiotics to jump start the infection." Blaine nodded. Dr. Wilson and the nurse left who returned a few moments later and got the antibiotics hooked up to Kurt's IV. She left the room. Blaine pulled out his phone and texted Hunter:
B-Hey bro are you busy?
H-Not really how is Kurt? Mom texted me that he was in the hospital that is all she said.
B-That is actually why I am texting you. His oxygen levels dropped and they had to intubate him. The doctor is also pretty sure he has pneumonia. They are going to get a chest X-ray to confirm once his oxygen levels come up. I need someone here with me, dad is in surgery and no offense to your mom, but I don't want her here.
H- None taken, I will be there shortly. Are you guys at Lima Heights?
B- No we had him transferred to Columbia Regional.
H- On my Way what room?
B- Room 315
Blaine set his phone down, sat down, and took Kurt's had in his. Blaine began to softly sing, Candles. He could hardly get the words out before he felt the tears in his eyes falling down his face. He let them fall on the sheets. Just then there was a knock on the room. Blaine wiped his face and said,
" Come in!" The door opened and in walked Hunter. Hunter closed the door and walked over to the bed. He handed Blaine a cup of coffee and a danish.
"I figured you could use the caffeine and you probably haven't eaten since this morning." Blaine took the coffee and danish and smiled,
"Thanks. You are going to be an uncle by they way, Kurt is pregnant. We are having twins." Hunter smiled,
"Congrats Bro! Why didn't you tell me sooner?" Blaine took a sip of the coffee and said,
"I just found out today. Kurt' biological father came over after the performance and due to his lack of being able to keep any food in his system and a fever he passed out. They told me, Myriam, Dad, the Warblers, the New Directions, his biological father and his new family in the waiting room at Lima Heights once he had woken up. After that we had him transferred here to be closer to home, plus dad is here and I know all of the nurses. Then I was talking to Dr. Wilson and the oxygen alarm went off and she had to intubate him." Blaine was crying at this point. Hunter wrapped Blaine in a hug and said,
"I am so sorry bro. It's going to okay. Kurt is strong he will be just fine. I am here for you too." Blaine smiled,
"Thanks bro it means a lot." Just then Hunter's phone began to ring. He let go of Blaine and pulled it out of his pocket. It was Myriam. He answered it.
H-Hey Mom
M-Hi baby what are you up to?
H-I am at the hospital...
M-The hospital what happened? Do you need me?
H-Mom please breathe I am fine. As I was saying I am at the hospital with Blaine and Kurt. Kurt stopped breathing and they had to intubate him and Blaine asked me to come sit with him.
M-Oh that's not good. Give your brother a hug for me an keep me posted.
H-Okay will do Mom, love you!
M- Love you too.
Hunter hung up the phone and smiled,
"Mom said to give you a hug." Blaine smiled and said,
"Let me guess she freaked out when you told her you were at the hospital."
"Yep, you know here she freaks out over the smallest things." Blaine smiled and let out a small laugh.
"Thank again for being here with me, Hunter. Hunter looked at Blaine and said,
"Of course. I don't mind being here with you. Trust me it is giving me chance to get away from Sebastian he is driving me up a wall. He keeps doing everything for me and and it is starting to get on my nerves." Blaine almost choked on his coffee.
"That does sound like him. He tends to do that if he feels sacred and scared of being left." Hunter smiled and said,
"I forgot that you dated in high school. It's not weird that I am dating your ex right?" Blaine shook his head.
"No, I am just happy that you have found someone even if it is Sebastian." Both boys laughed. Just then there was a knock on the door. Blaine said,
"Come in!" The door opened and in walked Clark. He closed the door behind him.
"I came as soon as I could. How is he?" Blaine took a sip of his coffee and said,
"He is okay I guess. They have him on antibiotics. Dr. Wilson is pretty sure he has pneumonia and is going to get a chest x-ray once his oxygen levels come back up." Clark looked at Blaine and said,
"How are you holding up?" Blaine sighed and said,
"As best I can. I am a little bit better since Hunter came to sit with me." Clark smiled and said,
"Thanks for being here with him Hunter."
"No problem that is what brothers are for." Clark got a page and had to go. Hunter and Blaine sat in silence for a while. Hunter sneeze and it sounded like an elephant and it made Blaine laugh. Hunter's sneezes always made Blaine laugh no matter what else was going on. During Blaine's grandfather's funeral, Hunter had started sneezing and he was able to hold all but the last one in. It was delayed and the whole church laughed when Hunter's last sneeze sounded like an elephant. Even Hunter laughed. Blaine let out a sigh and stood up,
"I will be right back. I am going to go see if I can find Dr. Wilson." Hunter nodded and said,
"I will text you if he wakes up." Blaine glared at Hunter. "Sorry I was trying to get a smile." Blaine shook his head and left the room. Dr. Wilson was standing at the nurse's station talking to a nurse. Blaine stood off to the side not wanting to interrupt them. Dr. Wilson noticed Blaine and said,
" Is everything okay, Blaine?"
"Yes, I was just wondering what the next steps look like for Kurt." Dr. Wilson sighed and ran her hand through her hair and said,
"The best we can hope for is that his oxygen level rise and we can take him off the ventilator?"
"What is the worst case scenario?" Blaine asked already knowing the answer.
"Worst case scenario, his oxygen doesn't rise and the twins don't make it." Blaine swallowed. It was harder hearing it out loud then in his head. Dr. Wilson continued, "As of right now, Kurt has a good chance of his oxygen levels rising. I was just asking the nurse to check his oxygen levels every hour during the night. I am hoping to take him off then ventilator in the morning. Now since I had to intubate him he will need to keep him for the rest of the week to keep an eye on his pneumonia and the twins." Blaine nodded and went back in the room and told Hunter what Dr. Wilson had said. Hunter hugged Blaine and said,
"Do you want me to stay the night?" Blaine shook his head,
"I appreciate the offer, but I will be okay." Hunter then said,
"If you need me please don't hesitate to call or text me." Blaine smiled and nodded. Hunter left the room. Blaine kissed Kurt's forehead and went to the bathroom. No one noticed the figure in all black sneak into Kurt's room and slip back out. Blaine heard the door but figured it was a nurse. Blaine came back into the room and finished his coffee. Blaine took Kurt's hand in his, kissed it, and put his head on the bed.
The nurse came by ever hour to check Kurt's oxygen levels, but not once did Blaine stir or move. The next morning around 9 am, the nurse came in and Kurt's levels were back up to a normal level. She left to go get Dr. Wilson. Dr. Wilson and the nurse walked in,
"Good Morning Blaine." Dr. Wilson said. Blaine didn't move. She went over and gently shook Blaine. Nothing happened. Dr. Wilson placed two finger's on Blaine's neck. There was no pulse. She then said,
"I need an intubation kit and a crash cart now! Oh and page Clark Anderson."
The figure got out to his car and pulled out his phone. He texted ' it is done'. A few moments later Myriam texted Sebastian back 'good.
