Chapter 8: Things I Hate
Finally, the writer's block was real on this one. 😪
Author's POV:
Jimin finally finished getting everything situated in his dorm and figured now was as good a time as any to go down to the office and fix his class schedule too. He put his shoes back on and ran down to the office. However, he didn't expect to bump into Jungkook on the way there. The taller looked so down and gloomy. He seemed as if he hardly noticed the collision between the two of them.
"Kookie-Hyung? What's wrong?" Jimin asked, full of concern.
"Nothing Jimin and I told you not to call me that in public." He spoke coldly.
"Oh, right. I'm sorry. I forgot." He says full of remorse.
"You forgot, huh? You forgot?! What is there a memory loss virus going around or something?" The taller spat.
"Hyung, I said I was sorry." Jungkook turned to yell at him some more, but when he looked into the younger's eyes and saw that he was on the verge of tears, all the anger he felt before melted away.
"I know Jimin. I'm sorry. I'm not mad at you. It's just.." Jungkook paused. He didn't want to talk about it because he didn't want to get worked up again.
"Just what? Please tell me, Hyung. I'm your friend, and I want to help. That's what friends do, right?" He frowned, seeming a little unsure. He hasn't had many friends, if any, in the past, so he was just shooting in the dark for now.
"It's just that Taehyung can really piss me off sometimes, but I shouldn't take that out on you." He explained.
"No, it's ok. I should've remembered." Jimin put his head down in shame.
"No, Jimin I-" Jungkook didn't want him to blame himself. It didn't really bother him either. He only lashed out because he was still in a combative mode.
"It's okay, Hyung. I know it was my fault. Anyway, I need to go change my classes." Jimin held up his class schedule in his hand.
"What for? We haven't even started yet, and you already don't like them?" Jungkook teased.
"No. No, it's not that. It's just one class. I think I was enrolled in there by mistake."
"What class?" Jungkook asked, reaching for his schedule.
"Dance class," Jimin replied as he handed it to him.
"Wow, you made the competition dance class?" He was a bit shocked, considering that Jimin was a freshman and a brand new student. The dance team rarely invited first-year students to join, and when they did, they usually were already familiar with that person. The club is very exclusive and hard to get into, so the fact Jimin got in said a lot about his ability.
"That's just it. I didn't. I didn't even try out for it." Jimin clarified.
"Well, they must have heard of you somehow." Jungkook shrugged.
"How? I haven't danced in years. At least not in public. That's why I want to hurry up and change the class before I make a complete fool out of myself on the first day."
"Need any help? I'm headed that way now since it's my office hours period."
"Oh no, I don't want to bother you."
"I'm the student body president. It's my job." Jungkook stated as a matter of fact.
"Well, yeah, but-" Jungkook walked into the office with Jimin's schedule in hand before the boy could finish. "Wait." He trailed in behind him and watched as he strolled up to the front desk. He slapped the paper down in front of the familiar woman working at the front desk. It was the same woman Mrs. Kim spoke to the day before about his schedule, although Jimin struggled to remember her name.
"My friend here needs a schedule change." His tone was slightly demanding.
"Good afternoon to you too, Mr. Jeon." She greeted sarcastically. "And Mr. Park, what is this about a schedule change? Mrs. Kim picked out these classes for you. She said these were the ones you needed to take."
"W-well, the academic classes are ok. It's just that.. I'm not a good enough dancer for the dance class." Jimin spoke in a low tone as his shyness resurfaced.
"Isn't that what a class is for? To better your skills." The woman frowned, not seeing the issue.
"Ms. Yang, that class is a competition class. He's not ready for that." Jungkook explained.
"Well, I'm sorry, but I cannot change it without Mrs. Kim's permission. She was the one who catered it specifically for you. If you have a problem with it, you need to speak with her about it."
"But she's busy, and I don't know if she'll be free in time to change it." Jimin almost whined.
"Well, that's unfortunate, but I still can't help you." She tilted her head to the side and shrugged.
"Come on, Jimin. Let's go." Jungkook grabbed his arm and pulled him out of the office. "That bitch." Jimin stared up at the senior with wide eyes. "She can change your schedule. She's just choosing not to."
"Well, there's no need for bad words and name-calling. I'll just have to see if I can get in touch with Mrs. Kim before classes start." Jimin frowned as he gently pulled his arm out of the older's grasp. Jungkook looked over at him, amused.
"Why can't I call her a bitch when she's a bitch?" He tested.
"Hyung, don't say that. She's a nice lady. I'm sure she would help if she could." Jungkook laughed. "What's so funny?" Jimin pouted.
"You are." He chuckled some more. "You're such a little kid sometimes." He rubbed his head, messing up his hair.
"I-I am not." Jimin struggled to remove his hands. He was successful at getting them off of his head, but then they went lower until the older was tickling him. "H-hey. S-stop it." Jimin could barely breathe from all of the laughter.
"What the fuck is this Kook? Why are you here with this fag?" They both immediately came to a halt at the raging voice.
——
~(A few minutes earlier)~
"Seriously, Tae. You need to go find Jungkook." Jaebum nagged as the group was walking out of the cafeteria. Taehyung, who was in front of the pack, rolled his eyes and turned back to face him.
"And you need to mind your own business. Besides, I told you he's fine."
"He didn't look fine to me," Jackson added, and Tae cut his eyes at him.
"You won't look fine if you don't shut the fuck up. What is this anyway, huh? You guys always take his side and get down on me for trying to do the right thing. Are you even my friends?" He accused.
"Come on, Tae. Of course, we're your friends. We're just worried. What if Kook doesn't show up for practice later? The coach will bench him, and then our chances of winning are shot. Plus, scouts are coming to our next game. Do you really think they'll pick players from the losing team? We need him to be okay." JB explained.
"I'm his best friend, and I'm telling you that he is fine. Besides, we've got Yoongi if he doesn't want to show."
"I can't carry the whole team by myself, Tae. JB's right. We need Kook too if we wanna win. I don't doubt that he'll come, but just go try to find him just in case." Yoongi chimed in.
"Alright, fine. Just stop talking already. I'll go find him." He said as he stormed away from the group. He had no clue where Jungkook was, but he assumed he'd be somewhere around the front office. As he got closer, he noticed a small ginger-headed boy walking out of the office along with Jungkook. He watched them as they stood there talking. Then Jungkook started tickling the boy. The scene brought back an old memory.
~~
"S-stop! Stop it, Kookie Oppa! I can't breathe!" Taehyung had just come back from the bathroom when he saw the dark-haired boy tickling his sister.
"Jungkook!" He called from the other side of the playground. Jungkook immediately stopped what he was doing and looked in that direction.
"Taehyung!" He grinned widely. Taehyung ran over with open arms, and Jungkook did the same until their bodies met in a full-blown hug.
"When did you get here? I thought your grandfather said you couldn't come to hang out with us." He asked out of breath.
"I got him to change his mind. I missed you and Jihae too much. I really wanted to see you guys." Jungkook pulled the brother and sister into a group hug.
"We missed you too, Oppa. Why did you leave us?" The little girl pouted.
"My grandfather made me go, Ji. He said I should go on business trips with him to learn about the business. I think he wants me to take over since my dad wouldn't."
"That's not fair. He's a meanie for making you go."
"You wouldn't understand. You're only eight. Now that I'm eleven, my grandfather says I'll have more responsibilities."
"Yeah, us eleven-year-olds are bigger and have to do a lot more than eight-year-olds," Tae added with a condescending tone.
"Hey! I'm big too." She whined, and the boys laughed.
"No, you're not. You're the smallest in your class Jihae. Everyone is bigger than you." Tae teased.
"You better quit it, or I'm telling mommy that you two are being mean."
"We are not. Your tininess makes you cuter." Her brother pinched her cheek and smiled.
"Yeah," Jungkook added. "You are cute." The small girl blushed at that. Taehyung noticed and frowned.
"But, you're still short." Tae spat, pulling her out of her happy place.
"That's it! I'm telling mommy." She ran off, and the two boys chased after her.
~~
Taehyung snaps out of it as he realized something. That boy is the reason he had that nightmare about Jihae. He is the reason why she is the only thing on his mind. Now he is triggering memories of her that the brown-haired boy would rather forget while he is giggling with his best friend as if nothing happened. What was that boy even doing with Jungkook in the office? Did he tell? Taehyung's heart almost stopped at that thought.
What if he did tell? His reputation would be ruined. He can't let anyone think he's gay for that freshman. He bullies first-year students. That is his role. Everyone should fear him. If they think for a second he's gone soft, he'll lose his status regardless of his parents practically owning the school. Not to mention if anyone found out what he called him, or who he thought he was. Taehyung was not about to let that happen. He needed a plan to make that boy so scared that he'd shit himself before ever crossing him, and he had the perfect one.
"What the fuck is this Kook? Why are you here with this fag?" He gave Jimin a look of disgust.
"Tae? I thought you were eating lunch with the guys." Jungkook didn't expect to see him here.
"I finished, dumbass. Anyway, I came here to apologize, but I see you're busy here with your new boyfriend."
"He's not my boyfriend. We were just-" Jungkook tried.
"On your way to fuck? Yeah, it was obvious." Jungkook only rolled his eyes. He knew Tae would only spin the situation into something worse if he tried to argue, so he remained silent. "Anyway, are you coming to practice or not? The guys wanna know."
"Of course. I'm not about to get benched before the big game." Jungkook retorted as if it was apparent.
"Try telling JB that. He was so convinced that you would be to upset to play."
"I am still mad, but I'm not going to miss the game because of it."
"Look, Kook; I'm sorry okay? I was only joking. I didn't mean to make you mad." Tae tried sounding as sincere as he possibly could.
"You were a dick, Tae."
"Yeah, I was, but I had a nightmare about..." Tae stopped mid-sentence and looked over at Jimin, who was cautiously moving further and further behind Jungkook as if he was trying to hide. "about her." He looked back over to his friend. "It just put me in a shitty mood, and I took it out on you."
"Are you okay?" Jungkook looked at him full of concern, and it confused Jimin. A second ago, he was furious at Taehyung, and now he was asking if he was okay.
'Is this how friends are? Fighting one moment and then fine the next?' He wondered.
"I was a little shaken up since it's been a while since I dreamt of her, but I'm fine now... Are we good?"
"Yeah, we're good. I'll see you at practice later." Jungkook turned to leave, but before he could, Jimin latched onto his arm.
"W-where are you going?" He smaller panicked.
"It's my office hours period, so I'm going back in. That's why I was here, remember?" Jungkook shook him off.
"Oh, ok. S-see you later then."
"Yeah, see ya." Jimin watched as Jungkook turned and walked back into the office. Once he was gone, Jimin realized he was left alone with Taehyung. He looked over and saw the older glaring at him. Suddenly he felt a lump in his throat.
"B-bye now." He hurried to leave, but Taehyung caught him by his arm and yanked him back.
"What's the matter, huh? Scared of me?" Tae chuckled.
"U-Uhm no. I-" He lied.
"Great, then you don't mind if we have a little chat." Tae let go of his arm and stuck his hands in his pockets, and Jimin backed away as soon as he did. Taehyung found it amusing, so he backed Jimin into the corner between the office buildings where they were away from prying eyes. It made Jimin nervous.
"Taehyung-ssi, I have to g-go."
"Why so formal freshman? Call me, Hyung." Jimin's heart was beating fast as he noticed their proximity. He tried to get around him, but the older pushed him against the brick wall. "Hyung is sure you can stay for a few more minutes. Just for a little chat." Taehyung gave him a sinister smile. His voice was horrifyingly sweet, and Jimin didn't like it at all.
"What do you w-wanna talk about?" Jimin gulped.
"Oh, just some things I hate. For instance, I hate homeless people who move in with my family and much of my future money; I hate little freshmen who think they can talk to my friends without my permission, and, most of all, I hate snitches. So I'm going to ask you, did you go into that office and tell them how you kissed me last night?"
"B-but.. but I didn't kiss you- Ah!" Jimin doubled over after Taehyung's fist connected with his stomach.
"Did. You. Tell?" He paused after each word as he watched the smaller riffle in pain.
"No, I swear." Jimin cried.
"Then why were you in the I office?" Tae grabbed a handful of his hair and yanked him back up to face him.
"I just went to change my schedule."
"You better not be lying." His grip tightened, and Jimin winced.
"I'm not lying. I promise."
"Good boy." Taehyung loosened his hold and patted the boy's head. "I think you deserve a little treat for your obedience. Don't you think?" His hand travels down the side of Jimin's face to the bottom of his shirt. He lifted it a little before running one hand over the younger's bare stomach, where a bruise was starting to form. Jimin didn't like the way he was touching him. It reminded him of last night at the party.
"Hyung, please don't."
