Chapter 56
Springtime, back to school, food. What do all three of these have in common?
School festival! Just a whole week of doing no school work and lots of food! This is going to be great, I'm thinking of all of the different snacks that I'll be eating this year!
Not only were the students in a good mood arriving at school, but the teacher and staff seemed excited. Although one teacher was excited for something other than the festival...
"You have the rest of the hour to finish this test."
Wanna guess what grade I got? I'll give you a hint, the letter of my grade is the first letter in the word festival. But other than that little hiccup we were free for the rest of the day! Well, not free we had to make a stall per class.
The class seemed divided on what to sell.
"Let's sell takoyaki!" (fried octopus ball thingy)
"No! Everyone is gonna sell that! Let's sell cotton candy!"
"How about rice?"
"Who the hell suggested rice?!"
The teacher tried to gain control of the classroom, "Everyone settle down, let's just have a vote. Any suggestions, I will draw them on the board."
"Takoyaki!" a student called.
"That's already being done by the third years." she responded.
"Cotton candy?"
"First years already called it."
"But I don't want to sell rice!" another kid complained. The rest of the class agreed.
"Then how about yakisoba?" You suggested.
The rest of the class seemed to be okay with it, as long as we weren't doing rice... So we got set to work making our class stall. So basically how this whole thing works is that there are three booths per class.
Since our school is kind of small, there are only three classes for each grade level. The three different booths are food, game, entertainment. And like usual, somehow the third years and first years also got the food category. Honestly things like this shouldn't even be a surprise anymore...
On the way home, there was a bit of smack-talk happening. "The third years have this one in the bag." Kanan stretched. "You guys won't even compete in sales."
"Really?" Hanamaru raised an eyebrow, "The last time I ate your Takoyaki I swear the octopus was killing me." she laughed while Kanan glared at her.
"Everyone knows we're gonna have the most sales." I replied calmly,
"What are you guys even making?" Dia asked
"The greatest food of all time, Yakisoba!" I said proudly.
"Shizuko, you can't even make ramen correctly." Mari shook her head,
"Of course you'd be the guy to somehow mess up instant noodles." Yoshiko sighed.
"Hey!" I protested, "No one told me it couldn't be thrown in the microwave!"
"It literally says 'Do not microwave'!" Riko scolded.
"It's like that thing I saw online," I grinned, "A warning sign won't stop me because I can't read!"
"Obviously, considering you flunked the test today." Chika teased.
"Like you did any better!" I shot back.
She held up her test sheet, "What the- a B+?" she smiled.
"Like I said, you flunked the test didn't you?"
"Maybe... But I have an excuse!"
"Which is?"
"I didn't study."
"No duh." Riko face palmed.
Stupid idiots, thinking I can't make ramen correctly... I walked into my house and took out a cup noodles. I'll show them!
I read the directions very carefully, boil water. Okay, I took out a kettle and put some water in. I lit the stove and continued reading the instructions. Wait for the water to boil and open the cup ramen. Put the water into the container and close the top.
I took the water and put it in the cup and waited. For five minutes like the directions said so. After exactly five minutes I tore the lid off and took my fork. I was about to eat when something was wrong, very wrong.
The noodles were still hard and the water was cold. I looked over at the pot, it was on the stove where the fire should've been. But instead of turning on the fire, I turned on the gas!
I'm not proud of this, but I still hadn't figured out that I turned on the gas. Instead I took a lighter, thinking the flame was stuck and opened it. Now I wasn't paying attention in science, but I'm pretty sure that when there's gas in the air and you light a flame, there's going to be a boom boom.
"Shizuko?" a voice called out, "Why does it smell like g- What the hell are you doing?!" You yelled taking the lighter away from me.
"What are you doing You? I'm just trying to make ramen since you all were making fun of me."
"Do you not even smell the gas?!" she scolded and turned off the dial on the stove, "It's not rocket science to know not to light a fire using a lighter in a room with gas!"
"Explain?" I said confused.
"Gas in room, light with lighter, makes a possible boom boom." she dumbed it down for me.
"Ah..." I nodded understanding.
"What were you even planning to do with this?" she asked.
"Um, light the stove cause the stove didn't light."
She sighed, "Wait here," she motioned me to sit at the table.
She left me there to stare at my failure of ramen. I looked up when I heard something going on in the kitchen. I peaked in to see You making something. She was humming as she continued cooking. It didn't take long before she discovered my presence.
"I thought I told you to stay in there." she said without even looking up.
"Well I heard humming..." she then looked embarrassed,
"I still don't remember allowing you to move from that table."
"Yes, but-"
"Fine, you need to learn how to make this anyways..." she finally said.
"What are you making?"
"What's it look like, Yakisoba." she stirred the pan.
"Wait, you know how to make this?"
"No I'm just winging it, of course I know how to make it idiot." she shook her head, "Actually this was the one thing my dad taught me to make."
"Wow, so this is what we're going to be selling?"
"Yep, this is what we're gonna beat all the other groups with!" she presented the plate.
"Woah," I looked at the hot fresh plate of fried noodles, then I looked at my disgusting ramen. "Thanks for the food!" I chimed as I dug in.
"So, how's it taste?" she asked.
I couldn't even answer, my face lit up when I tasted the piping hot food. "Hot!" I winced as I burned my tongue. She laughed and then got up and started making another dish. A few minutes later Riko and Chika walked in.
"Yo," You called from the kitchen, "Come on, we need all of you to know how to make these so we can teach everyone."
"Yousoro!" they saluted.
I finished eating and then started to look at how to make it. When You saw that I was trying to learn she stopped me. "Considering what you did back there, you should just be a waiter..."
"But I can cook I promise!"
"You failed boiling water, and almost burned the house down..." she shook her head, "If you want to cook, go cook for the third years, that way you'll be helping us out."
"How would I be helping us out?" I asked, then took a second to think, "Hey!"
Stupid idiots thinking I can't cook. Fine! I will help the third years cook...
"No no no, step away from here!" Mari pushed me away.
"Please, this is for the better..." Kanan shoved me out of the door.
Okay... guess I'll help the first years...
"I don't know how you'll mess things up," Hanamaru put a stop sign with her hands.
"But you'll somehow do it." Ruby finished.
"Sorry Shizuko, but even the little demons could do a better job than you." Yoshiko patted my head.
"Just give me a chance!" I begged, "Everyone thinks I can't do anything!"
"And they're exactly right..." Hanamaru said coldly,
"Fine! Well have fun doing work! I'm gonna do absolutely nothing!" I yelled at each group.
"Shizuko, you know we don't mean it like that..." Riko said softly.
"But you know we're just doing what's best for you and us," from Dia,
"You want this to be successful right?" Ruby concluded.
They're right about something... everything I do I mess up somehow. And well, I like all of them, but if I just decide one... What if I mess that up?
And so the next day, the festival preparations began, and the day after that... the first and last festival with the nine of them, began...
Good morning! Hope you all liked it! Today was kind of a longer chapter, unfortunately the book is sort of coming to an end, after this little festival thingy, it'll be a little bit longer until the end.
Anyways, thank you for reading! I love you all!
Question of the day: Favorite love live song? (can be from any group)
Be safe! Mask up! Don't be stupid!
