Chapter 37
See to make things simple. Chika isn't an idiot. Not necessarily in a bad way, it has its perks. Sometimes she'd be so stupid it'd make people feel bad and they'd give her things. Like the other day.
I brought her to go grocery shopping. And her stupid self managed to bargain with a guy to give her mikans at a discounted price. Here's how the conversation went.
"What do you want kid?" the rough seller said.
"Mikans please." she answered.
"You got any money?" He raised an eyebrow.
Chika nodded her head. "Yep, how much?"
"Depends on how much you have." he answered trying to scam her.
"Here," she handed him the contents of her pocket, just a few coins.
"That'll only be enough for five mikans." he said handing them over and taking the coins.
After we left the farmers market, she slumped her shoulders. "What's wrong?" I asked.
"I didn't get to show him my other pocket full of money." she said sadly.
"Is that a bad thing?"
"I could've given him more money... I'd give anything for mikans."
This is the type of mind we are dealing with.
So when she was the one lost it actually didn't surprise me. There's a 95% chance that she went the opposite direction the arrow was pointing to.
I got on the ski lift and waited. I got high enough to see all of the different routes. From as far as I could tell, there was only one route that wasn't lighted up. I should probably check there first.
As I was going down the hill it became apparent to me that it was really hard to see where I was going in the dark. Not to mention the large trees on both sides of the trail. I kept stopping every few seconds and called out.
"Chika?" I would yell. No response the first time I went down.
The second time I went down the route that the arrow wasn't pointing towards, in other words: the trail that wasn't even a place you were allowed to ski down.
And I could tell why... THAT PLACE WAS STEEP!
I tried to slowly go down by using the pizza technique Dia taught us, unfortunately it hurt my legs a lot. "Chika?" I yelled again making sure she was there before I actually went down.
No response, I turned back to go to the regular trail, only to slip and start rolling down the hill. I crashed on the bottom, hitting a tree in the process.
Now it may have just been me going crazy but I swear I heard someone calling my name.
"Shizuko?" the voice said, "Shizuko?" they kept calling over and over. The voice sounded hurt.
I looked around for the first time, about two hundred feet away there was a shadowy figure. Chika?
I walked over to them, they were sitting down on the ground clutching their knee. "Chika?" I said as my eyes widened. Her leg was bent in a way that isn't normal. It was definitely broken.
"Are you okay?" I asked taking off my skis. That's such an idiot question. Of course she's not but I had no clue what else to say.
"It hurts!" she said crying.
"Is it just your leg?" I asked.
"I-I think so. It just all really hurts right now." she sniffed.
I don't have a single idea how to take care of a broken leg, but I did my best just to make her feel comfortable. I took off her skis, and had her lie down. I swear this better not count as perverted.
"I-I'm cold." she shivered tears still rolling down her eyes.
"Okay." I calmed her as I gave her my jacket. Since it was night time it was absolutely freezing outside. But Chika was hurt so I gave it to her anyways.
Next thing I tried to call for help. I didn't have my phone on me, it was back with my other stuff at the ski lodge.
Since we were at the bottom, I'm sure we could just walk in the direction where the ski lodge was. Only problem is, Chika can't walk and I don't think I'll be able to carry her all the way.
"Shizuko-kun." she tugged at my sweatshirt.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm still cold." she answered.
"Um, I don't think I have anything else to give you sorry." I said trying to think how I'd get her back to safety.
"How about a hug?"
"Fine." I stated without thinking. She then grabbed me, and squeezed tight. "Chika! I can't breathe!" I struggled.
While she was still grabbing on, I thought of distracting her from the pain a little bit. Since every few moments she'd hiss from the leg.
"How'd you even get down here?" I asked.
"I just took a path that I thought was faster." she shrugged.
"But this isn't a path." I commented.
"I went the way the arrow wasn't pointing to." she said proudly.
"Chika... why'd you do that?" I said face palming.
"I had a dream that arrows were chasing me." she said as she started her story. Then I decided this is probably my only chance to get her out of here on my own. The night was starting to grow colder and the snow was starting to fall again.
"Chika, I'll carry you back. Tell me the story on the way." I smiled to her.
She nodded and let me pick her up.
"Chika, how many mikans do you eat in a day?" I teased her.
She pouted, "Are you going to move or no!"
"Jeez calm down, okay let's go." I said moving forward hoping there'd be something at the end of this path.
"Good, because I would've just stood up and walked myself!" Chika said confidently.
"With that leg bent that way I doubt you'd make it two feet." I grinned as I kept pushing in the snow.
It was extremely cold to someone just wearing a sweatshirt, it had to be about twenty degrees plus wind. But I somehow got further. Maybe it was me knowing that it was Chika who needed help and she wasn't complaining.
The trail ended and by then we found ourselves about a few thousand feet from the lodge. We were almost there. And about five minutes later we, the mikan girl and all, made it to the lodge. There were people outside still skiing already calling the medical group out.
They took Chika into the medical area of the resort and I went inside trying to warm up. Someone called my name and I looked up to see Kanan walking over.
"You found Chika?" she asked.
"Yeah, she probably broke her leg." I stated as the rest of them came into the lodge.
I told them all of the story, may I say not one of them cared about me, and then I just wanted to go home. Someone tapped me on my shoulder though.
"Are you the guy who brought in the girl with the broken leg?" the medical staff asked me.
"That's me." I nodded.
"Yeah we're gonna take her to the hospital to get an x-ray she said she wants you to be in the ambulance." he nodded to the rest of the girls, "We don't have enough room in there, but you guys are free to follow along."
They nodded and we waited for the ride to come. Let me tell you it was a long night. We did not get an ounce of sleep as we just stayed with Chika the whole night. In the end all she needed was a cast and to stay in bed for a while.
Unfortunately the troubles were just beginning. As she dubbed me her "Personal Servant!" but for me, it was pretty much slavery... At least I wasn't alone, everyone became a "Personal Servant!" that night, some more excited than others.
And we had our first job:
"Get me this Christmas tree!" she said pointing to a Christmas tree on her phone.
Okay, this chapter was a little boring, I'm sorry! I have to go watch Fubuki sing karaoke. And then do schoolwork. Don't judge me!
But yeah I might update again today if not then definitely tomorrow! Have a very good day everyone! It's almost Christmas babyyyy.
