Chapter 36
The morning sun was shining on my window as I awoke. The sun was out however the day appeared to still be cold. The snow glittered in the light and the frost was still visible on the windows.
It was now winter break. The first Monday where I can be extremely lazy. I yawned and put on a sweatshirt. It was rather cold in the house this morning. My parents were probably on their way to work and forgot to keep the heat on.
As I went down the stairs there was a note left by my mom.
Hi sweetie, our alarm didn't go off so we'll work a little longer today! Also we wanted to let you know something. The girl's parents will be coming here for Christmas. They'll be staying with them until the New Year.
Christmas was about two weeks away. Yeah I remembered Ruby or someone say something about this. Why'd I need to know this? Couldn't they just tell me this when we got home?
Anyways aside from that I didn't really have anything to do today. I sat by the piano thinking of what to play. I ended up just playing something random. A random medley of songs actually. When I finished someone started clapping.
Freaked out I turned around to see who invaded my house. It was Kanan.
"What?" the blue-haired girl asked.
"H-h-how'd you get in?!" I said very confused.
"You've never picked a lock before?" she responded calmly.
"WHAT?!" I yelled.
"Calm down, I'm here to relay a message. I thought you'd be asleep... but I guess I was wrong." she nodded to the piano.
"What's the message?" I said completely forgetting about the break-in that just occurred.
"We're going skiing." she answered before opening the front door. The cold air rushed into the room.
"What does that have to do with me?" I hung my head.
"You really think you're not coming?" she raised an eyebrow.
"But what if I don't want to?" I responded.
She shook her head laughing, "Be ready in thirty minutes."
"Wait-" she closed the door.
"Why do I keep getting put in these situations?" I said aloud.
"You love us so it's okay." a voice said making me jump. In my panic of Kanan breaking in. I was attempting to dial 911, however I held the button nine on the key pad and sped dialed someone.
The way I set up my speed dials was with the number 2-9 and 0 (number 1 is voicemail) so anyways, originally I was gonna set it so that number 2 was my favorite girl and 0 was the least. But then I came up with a bigger brain one. The girl on number 2 was the least annoying and the girl on 0 was the most annoying.
So here's how I did it. The most annoying person I can think of out of the group is Mari, then You, then Kanan, followed by Dia, Riko, Hanamaru, Yoshiko, Chika, then Ruby.
So I dialed nine which was Chika. And she picked it up listening. So that was a little awkward... I hung up immediately.
I sighed as I got up. Skiing huh? I've never done it before. Shouldn't be that hard right? All you have to do is go down.
There was a light snow that started kicking in when I met the girls outside their house. The wind blew a little bit as we rode over to the nearest ski resort.
"Mari just got her license." Dia explained as we all piled into a minivan that Mari had apparently just bought.
"LET'S GO!" Mari cheered as she took off.
We arrived and got all of the gear. Then we headed outside to the snow.
"Does anyone know how to ski?" Dia said as we all sat on the snow.
You, Kanan, Mari, and Ruby raised their hands.
"The rest of you?" The third year nodded to us.
We all shook our heads in unison.
"Alright, looks like we're gonna learn the basics." She said before turning to the others. "You guys can do whatever you want."
They nodded and took off right away to some of the highest hills.
"Okay," Dia paused, "so pretty much all you need to know is how to turn and how to stop." We all nodded and followed her to one of the baby hills.
Okay I'll give you a crash course on skiing. Apparently to turn you have to put your weight on your opposite side. So if you want to turn right, you put all of your weight on your left foot, and vice versa.
"To stop you turn your skis in like a slice of pizza." Dia explained.
"What if it's deep dish?" Hanamaru questioned.
"You would be the one person to think that..." I shook my head.
She pouted, "I'm just giving all the possible options!"
Anyways we finally got to test it out, you'd think it'd be hard to keep your balance but it's actually really easy.
Soon we were approved by Dia to get on the ski lifts. Chika, Riko, and I got on the smallest hill with a lift. It was actually pretty high up.
"What if someone fell?" I said a little scared.
"It probably wouldn't hurt, there's plenty of snow!" Chika grinned.
"The snow is packed to be hard, so it's easier to ski!" Riko said terrified.
Behind us we heard a scream.
We turned around just in time to see Hanamaru fall from the lift.
"I'M FALLING ZURA!!!!" She yelled.
I shrugged, "Sucks to suck I guess..."
She was alright, the worst that happened was that her snacks were crushed by her fall.
We went down the slopes for a few hours now.
The day was starting to turn to evening, the sun was close to setting in the distance.
"It's so pretty," You said as all ten of us were on top of one of the highest hills.
"Does anyone want to race?" Kanan asked.
"What if we get separated?" Dia said thoughtfully, "The lights probably don't light up all of the paths."
"Can't hear you, too busy winning!" Mari laughed taking off.
"Go, go, go!" I yelled as we all went down the hill as fast as possible.
The goal was to get down to the bottom, this path had four different routes to the bottom. So naturally most of us took different ways.
Mari made it first (thanks to her head start), then Ruby, Kanan, You, Me, Dia, Riko, Hanamaru, and Yoshiko.
Chika was nowhere to be found.
We waited five minutes, ten minutes, fifteen, all the way to half an hour.
Something wasn't right. Even if Chika fell she'd get up and keep coming down.
Where was she?
Dia and Kanan went back up to check if she was still skiing somewhere. The rest of us looked in the lodge and the other lifts.
Nothing.
After an hour, it was night time, the moon was covered with clouds. The only light was the ones glowing on the path.
Then a thought hit me.
"I think I know where she is!" I said to the group.
And then took off. Hoping I was right.
Happy Thanksgiving! Or actually... it's Saturday now... also we hit 5k reads?!
Thank you all so much! I love writing for you all and I hope you all like the story too!
The next part will probably be out on Monday or Tuesday... I have to watch more anime.
Also what do you guys want me to do to celebrate 5k? Give me suggestions and I'll do it! Have a good day everyone!
