Back at Berk...

...Hiccup closed the door and approached her. Mérida was feeling insecure there. She thought it wasn't a good idea right there, but there was no coming back.

"Hey, Mérida" he smiled warmly to her. "What happens?"

She sighed and straightened, and with a worry face, she spoke to him:

"We need to talk"

"Sure, what's going on?" Hiccup offered her a sit next to him in the warm red sofa, and she sat down, thinking about how to start the conversation.

"Uhm, well, A wanted ya to tell me if ya had something prepared for tha expedition" she face palmed mentally, she got nothing better, really?

Hiccup looked at her with a 'this-was-so-urgent-really?', but his face softened. 

"Actually not" he chuckled a bit. "I was going to ask Astrid, maybe she can help me"

Mérida looked dissapointed, and she crossed her arms. 

"We can halp ya too, ya know" she said to him with a frown. Sometimes she felt like Hiccup didn't really care about his friends. Although she knew that wasn't true. 

He smiled sheepishly raking a hand through his hair. 

"Yeah, but I wanted to ask her first, her opinion is so important for me" he apologized himself. 

"Ehem, wimp, ehem" Mérida talked while she faked cough, looking around innocently. 

Hiccup looked at her smirking, he liked her childish actitude, but sometimes was bothering. He made a serious face.

"Hey, I only care about her opinion" he complained at her. She rolled her eyes.

"And could ya think by yarself for once?" she asked him, a bit annoying. Since Hiccup and Astrid were together, he only cared about her opinion, if she said no (or yes), it was not (or yes) for everyone. 

"I think by myself actually!" he looked a bit bothered. What was Mérida talking about?

"No you don't!" she got angry. Was Hiccup that blind? "Astrid is a good person, really, and A'm her friend, but a part from tha; don't ya see she is manipulating ya? All ya do is doing wha she wants!" she stood up from the sofa. Hiccup followed her

"What? She is a beautiful person and she would never manipulate me! Never!" Hiccup shouted at her, angry too. What's went wrong? When Mérida started thinking like that? Astrid never would do that to him... right?

Mérida let go a sarcastic laugh. 

"Oh, c'mon" she placed her hands to her hips, ready to fire again. "Jast tell me Hiccup, because A'm curious. Why do ya think she's interested, huh? Do ya think, for once minute, tha she would even be with ya if ya weren't the chief and tha famous dragon rider?" she raked a hand through her hair, she relized that wasn't the way to talk to Hiccup about that. "Are ya tha blind?"

"At least she treats me like I'm somebody!" he shouted again, approaching Mérida, gesturing with his hands. 

"Yeah, well would she love ya if ya were nobody?" she asked in disbelieve. Hiccup wasn't going to give his arm to cheer. She knew that. She had always knew. 

"Nobody loves me when I was nobody!" he yelled back. With a little bit luck, the discussion wasn't heard in the hole village. Their bodies were just inches away. Mérida despair and shout out, holding Hiccup's arms, shaking them:

"I did!" she said to him, looking at his eyes. Finally, she got all of that out. She felt great, happy. And afraid. She never had the force to ask him or told him, although she was the bravest lady in the village, but she was afraid of him. In fact, she dind't want hurting Astrid, neither. But, it was late. 

Hiccup's eyes widened and his chin fell down. He took a step back, looking at his hands, trying to digest the information. He slowly looked back at Mérida's eyes, filled with tears. All of this was getting so intense. 

"W-what?" was all he was able to say. Good Hiccup, a really good job. 

"You heard me" she whispered, falling on the sofa, crossing arms, eyes closed. "Now you know"

"Y-yeah, but why didn't you told me before?" he grabbed her hand. She stood still with her eyes closed. She didn't want facing Hiccup's eyes.

"I don't know" she shrugged.

"Mérida, I loved you too" Hiccup cupped her face in his palms. 

"You said that in past" she finally opened her eyes, facing his. They were watering. Her heart broked.

He nodded.
