Chapter 50: Danger Looming
Tasha wasn't sure how long she cried into Bucky's chest — sobbing like a baby as he tried everything he could do to soothe her, even if only for a fraction of a moment.
"Bucky, it hurts so bad!" Tasha whimpered as the ache consumed her. "I — I can hardly breathe! It's as if my entire body is on fire —"
"Just breathe, Tash." Bucky cooed softly, "Breathe with me, okay? Focus on my breathing." This wasn't the first panic attack he had dealt with, but he couldn't imagine how Tasha felt in that moment — he could only imagine losing her, and how he would feel. He couldn't fathom a universe without her —
Tasha's breathing slowly died down from a fast pace to a slower, more normal pace as her tears began to dry. Bucky pulled back slightly, brushing her hair back behind her ears as he looked down at her.
"I lost my lover, brother and father in the span of three months..." Tasha chuckled sadly as an emptiness began to consume her. It quenched the ache, which was all she cared about in that moment. She smiled in a small bit of relief as she finally looked at Bucky. "I think... I think I'm good to talk with everyone now." She said as she stood and pulled him to his feet.
"You sure?" He looked at her worriedly, unsure if he should trust her judgment.
She nodded, keeping her hand in his as they walked into the room.
"Alright, ladies and gents — and those who identify otherwise — Let's get to business!"
Steve looked at Tasha warily as she skipped into the room, a feign expression of happiness on her face.
"Tasha, you need to rest." James insisted as he held her waist, but was only brushed off.
"No. We need to prepare." She replied simply as she pulled out of his grasp.
"Prepare?" Steve asked with raised brows. "Bucky's right, Tash. You're in no shape for anything other than bedrest."
"That's likely." Tasha scoffed, offended. "I'm two thousand years old, Stevie, I can handle a discussion."
"You said we need to prepare." Tchala spoke from the corner of the room as he walked to the main table. "Prepare for what?" T'Chala asked seriously, knowing well the expression she wore.
Tasha looked at all of her friends, a solemn expression on her face. "Thanos."
"Than-who?" Nat asked.
"What are you talking about?"
"Tasha." Steve asked calmly as he rested his hand on her shoulder. He could see the fear in her eyes at the mention of this persons name.
"The man — the thing, that killed... Loki..." Tasha spoke shakily as she rubbed her forehead. "He's coming. And when he does..."
Steve rested his hand on his friends shoulder soothingly. "Take your time... Start from the beginning."
Tasha nodded slowly. "I'm fine. It's a long story."
"Well, we're all here." Nat replied as she sat in the chair.
"Asgard is destroyed."
"What do you mean destroyed?" Natasha asked in confusion.
Tasha closed her eyes. "I... It'll be much easier if I just show all of you what happened..."
"Are you sure you're up for that?" Steve asked with concern laced in his voice.
"Yes, and besides we have no time to rest. Thanos is the most dangerous being in the universe." Tasha closed her eyes as she leaned her arms against the table, her magic projecting the important points in her memories of the past few months.
Tasha showed them everything. Asgard being destroyed. Loki and her fighting with Thor and valkerye, they see Thanos' ship and then they see Thanos crush Loki's neck. Everyone gasps and looks horrified, the scene quickly fades when all you can hear is Tasha's screams which died out quickly as she pushed the memories away from the table.
"There. Caught up yet?" She asked impatiently as she tried to push her sadness away again, focussing on the empty void threatening to turn her heart dark as coal.
"Tasha..." James said quietly, trying to comfort her.
"It — " She shook her head, knowing fully well if she dwelled on her lovers death she would kill herself from the agony. "What matters is Thanos' plan."
"What is the end game? What does Thanos want?"
Tasha looked at Vision, humming as she stepped towards him. She slowly reached her hand out and touched his mind Stone. There was a light, and she was able to connect to Visions mind for a moment, which in turn she was able to find out for sure what he wanted.
When Tasha pulled away from Vision, the fear on her face was more evident. "Fuck."
"What?
"Tash-"
"Fuck!" She yelled as she punched the wall, the ground shaking slightly.
"Thanos is a Titan. He is powerful as is but now... he'll have three!"
"Three what?"
"Infinity stones." Vision spoke up.
Everyone was silent as they look at Vision.
"Infinity stones? You mean like Vision's mind stone?" Wanda asked as she stood close to Vision.
Tasha nodded as she paced the entire length of the room. "There's six infinity stones. He already has two. Two!"
Bucky grabbed onto her arm to stop her pacing. "Tash, you need to calm down."
"Calm down?! Calm down! I have lost everything! My father is dead. My brother is gone and Loki —" She glared at Bucky. "Thanos has to be stopped! We—" It was then Tasha realized her hands had purple light coming from them and objects around the room were floating. She took a deep breath as she looked at him, smiling slightly as everything else faded away.
"Take your time, alright?" Steve rested a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You've been through a lot of trauma—"
"Unfortunately, we don't have time for me to recuperate. If Thanos gets all the stones —"
"What does he want them for?" Nat asked.
"Thanos seeks to combine the infinity stones powers, and once done he has the power to do what he is destined to do."
"Destined to do?" T'Challa asked.
Tasha was silent for a moment as she looked at her friends, a look on her face they had never seen before.
"He wants to wipe out half of the universe."
