Chapter 46: Solace

When Loki awoke, he couldn't help but smile. Tasha's head was resting against his chest, her body partially draped across his. Loki rested his hand on her stomach, idly stroking her skin gently. He felt a warmth radiating from her lower abdomen, something he wasn't quite sure how to explain. Not until he focused closely.

It could not possibly be... could it?

Loki pressed his palm harder to her stomach, closing his eyes as he focused on the warmth emitting from her body. He saw flashes of a small child with long, dark brown hair and bright green eyes, Tasha holding her up in her arms with a swollen belly.

She couldn't possible be carrying a child right now... could she? Loki shook his head of the thought, feeling a warmth creep through his body at the mere thought of her potentially carrying his child. He knew the probability couldn't be overly high as they had been intimate numerous times and never once had Tasha fallen pregnant.

His thoughts of confusion were interrupted as Tasha stirred slightly, cuddling into his body with a yawn. "Why are you awake?"

"I'm just thinking." Loki replied as he pressed his lips to her forehead. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her as close as he physically could.

"About?" Tasha inquired as she nuzzled her nose into the crook of his neck, pressing gentle kisses along his bare collarbones.

"You." Loki answered with a smile as he pulled back enough to gaze down at her. "Always you."

Tasha smiled, a soft giggle leaving her lips as she kissed the tip of his nose. "As lovely as this is, I think if we take much longer Thor might kick us off the ship."

"How far from Earth are we, Heimdel?"

Tasha had been on the bridge for a few hours now, and Loki had just left to check on some important matter. She tried hard not to focus on the fear she felt, but it began to scream at her every moment he was gone.

"Just a small less far than we were ten minutes ago when you last asked, princess." He replied with a small smirk, causing both Val and Thor to laugh.

"It's not like I care or anything." Tasha paused as she twisted back and forth in her chair.

"Right. It's not as though you've been jittering about." Val said sarcastically. "What's so special about Earth anyways?"

"It's not Earth she's enamoured with." Thor smirked at his blushing sister. "Am I wrong, sister?"

"You both are truly horrible." Tasha wrinkled her nose in feign disgust.

"How long has it been since you've been with this soldier man?" Thor asked with little tact.

"First of all, his name is Bucky."

"What kind of name is Bucky?" Bruce asked curiously.

"The kind of nickname you get from Steve Rogers I suppose." Tasha shrugged. "Mind you, my nickname is simply Tash, so nothing special there — anywayssssss! It's been... a long time. Two — two years?" Tasha felt sadness well in her chest as she gazed out at the stars.

"You truly love this human, don't you?" Thor asked with a small smile as he saw the expression on his sisters face.

"Yes." Tasha nodded before she sighed deeply. "Is it wrong of me? To love them both?"

"What does dear old Loki have to say about your feelings for this guy?" Bruce asked as he leaned against the wall.

"It's complicated, I suppose. I think he's in between wanting to murder the man and appreciating him. Same would go for Bucky I suppose... though I admit I am not looking forward to having the conversation of 'Hey, my ex came back from the dead!'"

"Look, so long as you are happy, I am happy." Thor rested his hand on his sisters arm. "But if either of them hurt you I will send them to Hel a thousand times over."

"Thanks, bro, good talk." She teased.

Heimdel chuckled, causing Tasha to look over at him. "What's got you all giddy?"

"Your human thinks highly of you." He smiled as he looked out at the stars. "He stares at a photo of you often."

"He's... awake?" Tasha asked in awe as she stepped over to Heimdel, looking out the window with him.

"Yes, princess."

"Is he..." Tasha wasn't sure what she could ask to make herself feel better. "How is he?"

"He misses you. He wonders where you are and when you'll come back. He hopes that wherever you are, that you are happy."

Tasha smiled slightly as she thought of Bucky before a sigh left her lips. "Thanks, Heimdel."

Loki has stepped into the room mid conversation, and he could tell by the way Tasha stared out at the stars that she missed her human lover. It should've make him jealous, but seeing her upset only made him wish there was something he could do to cure her of this feeling.

"Are you alright?"

Tasha hummed, nodding in response. "Yeah, just... two years is a long time."

Loki smiled slightly at that, causing Tasha to quirk her eyebrow at him. "What?"

"You are so Human." He teased gently.

Tasha rolled her eyes. "The feeling of losing someone you love makes minutes feel like hours, hours feel like days and —"

"Days feel like eternity." Loki answered as he looked out at the stars.

Tasha nodded in agreement. "Heimdel, how are Tony and Steve? Have they made up yet?"

"Unfortunately not, princess." Heimdel answered with a solemn look. "But your friends are doing well despite the situation. You need not worry."

"I always worry, you should know this by now." Tasha smiled slightly as she held Loki's hand.

"May I ask you something?"

"Of course you can." Tasha replied with a smile. "What's on your mind?"

"If... if something important happened, you would tell me, would you not?"

"Loki, of course I would. I don't keep secrets, I'm not you." She teased as she linked her arm in his. "Seriously, what's going on?"

"I just — After what I did in New York, did anything happen that you didn't tell me about?"

Loki noticed Tasha's facial expression fall and he knew then he was right. "Oh." She frowned. "Yeah, when you were locked up a lot of things happened."

"If you're uncomfortable speaking on whatever it is—"

"I had a miscarriage."

Loki blinked a few time as his steps halted. Tasha's eyes looked sad as she held tightly onto his arm. "You..." For the first time in his life, Loki was speechless.

"It happened just after we got back."

"After I yelled at you?" Loki asked quietly.

Tasha nodded sadly. "Mother tried everything but there was nothing anyone could do. It —" Tasha cleared her throat as she used her free hand to wipe away the stray tears on her face. "Sorry, it's not a very fond memory."

"I shouldn't have asked..."

"No, you have a right to know." Tasha shrugged. "It's in the past. There's nothing either of us can do about it now."

"But it was my fault... wasn't it?"

Tasha opened her mouth to speak, then closed it. She turned so she could look at him and noticed he was staring out at the stars, his eyes gleaming. "Loki, no. Look at me —"

Loki refused, feeling tears come to his eyes. "Loki Odinson! Look at me." He smiled slightly as he glanced down at her.

"It wasn't your fault. Shit happens, okay? Just because something bad happens, it doesn't mean it's your fault." Tasha smiled lovingly at him as she caressed his cheek. "You're here now, okay? That's what matters."

Tasha let out a shaky breath as she held onto the wall, pulling herself along as quickly as she could. Cold, sticky, blood ran down her thighs and her sobbing grew loud as she noticed guards coming her way.

"My mother!" Tasha cried out. "Get my mother!"

The two guards ran to the queen, who in an instant was standing with her daughter in utter shock. "Oh, darling."

"Mommy, it hurts!" Tasha screamed out as she fell against her mother who helped her to the infirmary. "What — I don't —"

"I'm so sorry, darling." Frigga kisses her daughters head as she moved her hand over her lower abdomen. "There is nothing I can do other than ease the pain. I'm so sorry, my love."

Tasha sobbed harder. "Mommy —"

Tasha quickly got out of bed, going into the bathroom to run cold water as she splashed her face. She felt tears fall as she remembered the emptiness, and soon she was sobbing as she leaned her hands on the sink. Loki woke soon after, rushing to her and holding her tight in his arms.

"I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." He repeated over and over again as he sobbed. "Oh, my love, I'm so sorry."

Tasha cried into his chest. "It's fine! Loki —"

"Shut up! It is not fine! Don't lie to me!" He scolded her as he rocked her gently, kissing the tears off of her face. "I love you. I love you so much."

Tasha said nothing as she held onto him for dear life, her heart aching.
