AUTHRO POV
Y/n's mind was a whirlwind of thoughts as she woke up in her apartment, the weight of Jimin's words about her tumor lingering heavily in her thoughts. It was like a heavy rock had settled in her chest, reminding her of the uncertain future that lay ahead.
With a deep sigh, she pushed herself out of bed and made her way out of her bedroom. The morning light filtered through the curtains, casting a soft glow in the room. Y/n paused for a moment, her gaze drifting to a family photo on the wall the only one that she had—a reminder of happier times before tragedy struck.
She shook her head, trying to clear her mind of the overwhelming emotions. Taking a deep breath, she decided to focus on the present moment.
She moved to the kitchen, Y/n's heart raced as she entered the kitchen, ready to confront what she thought was a thief, her initial fear turning into a rush of adrenaline as she grabbed a canvas from the wall. Her grip tightened on the canvas, her instincts urging her to defend herself.
"AHHHH! Run, you thief!" she shouted, swinging the canvas at the intruder.
The man quickly turned around, his arms raised to shield himself from the unexpected attack. "YOU REALLY ARE CRAZY!" he exclaimed, trying to dodge the canvas.
Y/n froze mid-swing, her eyes widening as she realized the identity of the person standing before her. "Taehyung?" she gasped, lowering the canvas slowly.
Taehyung rubbed his arm where the canvas had struck him, a mix of surprise and amusement in his expression. "Yes, it's me," he replied, a hint of laughter in his voice. "But really, attacking me with a canvas? That's a new one."
"What are you doing in my house?" Y/n stammered, lowering the canvas but still keeping a defensive stance.
"Tryna be a good landlord you see, but it looks like I walked into a battlefield instead," he teased, gesturing to the canvas in her hand.
Y/n's cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she realized her mistake. "I-I'm sorry! I thought you were a thief or something," she explained, feeling a bit sheepish.
"It's okay, no harm done," Taehyung assured her, his smile warm and reassuring, stepping closer to her. "Well, rest assured, I'm not here to steal anything," he assured her, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
Y/n nodded in annoyance, but still feeling a bit relieved that it was just Taehyung and not an actual intruder. She glanced around the kitchen, noticing the mess that had been made.
"You know what cut the crap and answer me right now, What are you really doing in my house?" Y/n demanded, her eyes narrowing as she took in the sight of the messy kitchen.
Taehyung sighed, rubbing the spot where the canvas had hit him. "I... uh... I came to check on you," he admitted, his tone sheepish.
Y/n's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "Check on me?" she repeated, her voice incredulous. "Since when do you care about your fake girlfriend's well-being?"
Taehyung shifted uncomfortably, avoiding her gaze for a moment before meeting her eyes. "After I came at the hospital you fell asleep, Jimin told me about your health condition," he confessed, his voice softer now. "I wanted to make sure you were okay so I came along with Jimin as we bought you back to your home."
"You heard about my condition?" she asked, a hint of vulnerability creeping into her voice.
Y/n's expression softened slightly, her initial hostility waning as she processed Taehyung's words But slightly a sense of fear started climbing, thinking did Jimin told him about her tu-
"He said you are neglecting your health and over working yourself." Taehyung confessed making her exhale the sharp breathe she had held in suspense. She was relieved that Jimin didn't told him.
But her attention drifted to the messed up kitchen. Making her fume in anger again when she was about to shout at him, "YOU JERK-"
Y/n's frustration reached its peak as she watched Taehyung dramatically cover his ears and then her mouth, trying to silence her.
"Will you stop destroying my eardrum?" Taehyung exclaimed, his hand still covering her mouth. "This is not how you treat your new landlord." She tried to protest through his palm,
"Mmph!" Y/n mumbled, her frustration evident as she struggled against his hold.
"I know your shocked cause... you are too lucky to have such a handsome landlord, cooking breakfast in your kitchen, right Y/n?" Taehyung remarked, his tone playful yet slightly chiding.
Feeling a surge of anger, Y/n bit down on his hand, causing him to hiss in pain and withdraw his palm. Meanwhile, the smell of burning pancakes filled the kitchen, and Y/n's attention shifted to the stove where the pancake Taehyung had attempted to make was now charred and smoking. With quick reflexes, she rushed to the stove and tossed the burnt pancake into the trash before it could catch fire.
Her anger simmered as she closed her eyes, trying to calm herself before she turned around to confront Taehyung. However, what she saw caught her off guard.
Taehyung was on his knees, his head hung low in a dramatic display of remorse. In a low whisper, he said, "My precious pancake..."
Y/n's eyebrows shot up in disbelief. She grabbed his collar and pulled him back up, her voice rising in frustration. "YOU FUCKING DESTROYED MY KITCHEN AND ALMOST SET IT ON FIRE, AND YOU CARE ABOUT THAT BURNT SINGLE PANCAKE?"
Taehyung winced at her outburst but then looked up at her with a sheepish smile. "I'm sorry, okay? I just wanted to do something nice at least," he admitted, his tone apologetic.
Y/n's anger softened slightly at his apology, but she couldn't let him off the hook that easily. "Well, next time , maybe don't try to cook if you don't know how," she retorted, crossing her arms over her chest.
Taehyung nodded and bowed to her note the sarcasm in it . "Fair point," he conceded. "I'll stick to your orders, Miss Bold." Before they could continue their banter, the door bell indicated them that someone is there. Making y/n calm her before she committed an murder.
As Y/n opened the door a whole new face as well as person greeted her with a small smile holding a bunch of roses in his hands, as the person forwarded the roses.
"Do I know you?" Y/n asked, her curiosity piqued as she accepted the roses from him. She returned the smile, curious about this newcomer.
Jun-hoo chuckled softly. "We haven't officially met, but I'm your new neighbor," he introduced himself. "Min Jun-hoo. I recently moved in after Mr. Min shifted out. I am a student and Mr. Min is my uncle."
Jun-hoo's smile widened. "I love gardening, and these roses were just too beautiful not to share with my neighbors," he explained. Y/n's confusion cleared as Jun-hoo chuckled and mentioned his passion for gardening.
Y/n nodded in understanding, accepting the roses with gratitude. "Thank you, Jun-hoo. That's very kind of you," she said genuinely.
Before their conversation could continue, Y/n noticed a shift in Jun-hoo's expression. His smile faltered, replaced by a hint of fear or unease. She turned slightly, only to find Taehyung standing right behind her, his presence looming like a shadow. His intense glare at Jun-hoo sent a chill down her spine, making her realize that Taehyung's sudden protective instincts were on full display.
Jun-hoo nodded, his nervousness palpable. "Uh, hi," Jun-hoo stammered, his smile faltering as he shifted uncomfortably under Taehyung's intense gaze.
"H-i." Taehyung replied as his glare softened into a forced smile, making Jun-hoo look at him with a confused stare and when he tried to reduce the awkwardness.
He cleared his throat, trying to ease the atmosphere. "Who are you?"
"I am the owner of the this building." Taehyung announced with his head held high not glancing away from him. When y/n's eyes widened and she hit him with her elbow in his stomach making him shift his gaze to her who was just 5'3" in front his 5'10" height.
As she glanced between the two men, cleared her throat, "Jun-hoo, this is Mr. Kim Taehyung, the owner of this building and our..., landlord," she introduced awkwardly, unsure how to define their relationship given their recent interactions.
"Nice to meet you, Mr. Kim," he said, taking a small step back as if to give Taehyung some space.
Taehyung's smile remained strained as he nodded in acknowledgment. "Likewise," he replied shortly, his gaze still fixed on Jun-hoo.
Sensing the discomfort, Y/n decided to step in. "Well, Jun-hoo, I appreciate the roses. They're lovely," she said with a warm smile, trying to diffuse the tension.
Jun-hoo visibly relaxed at her words, the tension in the room easing slightly. "I'm glad you like them. If you ever need anything, feel free to ask," he offered before excusing himself and heading back to his apartment.
As the door closed behind Jun-hoo, Y/n turned to face Taehyung, who was still wearing a stern expression. "What was that about?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.
Taehyung shrugged nonchalantly. "Just making sure your new neighbor knows who I am," he replied, his tone casual but his eyes still sharp.
"You are impossible." Y/n sighed and took her leave from there leaving Taehyung alone, as her figure disappeared in her room, he face palmed himself and cursed under his breathe.
"Holy shit.. what got into me." He closed his eyes as he settled his ass on the couch in her comfortable living room. Thinking about the stunt he pulled a while ago.
UNKNOWN POV
The scene unfolded in front of the man as he sat in the opulent surroundings of his living room, the drama playing out on the large TV screen capturing his attention. With a chuckle, he took a drag from his cigar, the smoke swirling around him in the dimly lit room. His gaze remained fixed on the unfolding events, a small smirk playing on his lips.
Pulling out his phone, he dialed a number, his voice carrying the weight of authority as he spoke. "Maybe it's your time to look into this matter now," he instructed, his tone leaving no room for argument.
On the other end of the line, the recipient of the call hummed in acknowledgment before promptly ending the call. The man leaned back in his seat, a satisfied expression crossing his features. He crushed the cigar in his hand, the ember extinguishing with a faint hiss.
"Let's see what you will do now, Kim," he mumbled to himself, a hint of amusement in his voice as he chuckled softly. It was clear that whatever had transpired on the TV screen had piqued his interest, and he was eager to witness the unfolding consequences.
JUNGKOOK POV
I sat in his office, engrossed in a discussion with Choi Soobin my secretary about recent business market improvements. The atmosphere was professional and I stayed focused on my work until a knock on the door interrupted our conversation.
"Come in," I called out, expecting it to be one of my colleagues or assistants.
To my surprise, the door opened to reveal a familiar figure, and a feminine voice filled the room. When a something like thunder bolt struck me and eyes widened slightly as I recognized it was Ji-eun, my fiancée.
"I thought Mr. Jeon had informed you that we are going for shopping," Ji-eun said, her tone tinged with mild disappointment.
My heart sank as I realized my mistake, at this point of my work I feel I am engaged to my work and not her. I had completely forgotten about the scheduled wedding shopping trip this morning by my father. I bit my tongue, feeling a pang of guilt for letting it slip from my mind.
"I-I'm so sorry, Ji-eun," Quickly apologizing my tone gentle and very softly but still i don't know why I always stutter when she is in front of me, standing up from my seat. "I completely forgot. Let's go right away."
It couldn't help but notice the way she sighed, her expression softening as she looked at me. "It's alright. We can still make it in time," she reassured me, checking her watch. I internally smiled at her soft gaze at me as she looked away from me.
I quickly gathered my things and made my way out of the office, leaving the papers I had been discussing with my secretary behind. Taking a deep breathe I fixed my tie.
As I hurried to catch up with her, when Soobin's voice called out from behind me. "But sir, this is important," he insisted. Holding the paper's with a awkward smile on his face trying to convince me for not going, knowing that this discussion was important.
I paused briefly, turning to look at him with a determined expression. "Not more important than your soon-to-be Mrs. Jeon," I declared firmly before continuing on my way more like running for my life, leaving my secretary slightly stunned by my sudden prioritization of personal matters over business.
I quickly made my way down the stairs cause looking at Ji-eun who had already left in the elevator, the urgency of the situation pushing me forward I felt the stairs were the fastest. As I reached the ground floor, I was well aware of the employees looking at me with confusion, some even standing up from their desks to get a better view of their boss rushing out.
This is not at all bothering me right now.
Ignoring the curious stares, I hurried towards where Ji-eun was waiting near the car. I greeted her with a breathless smile, my hair slightly disheveled from the run. "Let's go," I said, opening the car door for her. Like the gentleman I man when she gave me an frown as she looked at me and got inside.
Once we were seated inside the car, I couldn't help but lean back with a relieved sigh. Rolling down the window, letting the cool breeze ruffle my hair and cool my flushed face. However, Ji-eun's thoughtful gesture interrupted my moment of relaxation.
Ji-eun handed me a napkin.
"Take it, wipe your face," she said, holding the napkin out to me. I couldn't help but stare at her hand, and the napkin was identical to the one I had seen in during our high school.
---
Jungkook sat in the badminton stadium, taking a momentary break to watch his friends practice. As he opened his water bottle, he noticed Ji-eun holding out a napkin for him with a smile on her face. However, he chose to ignore her gesture and continued drinking his water, not acknowledging her presence.
Seeing Jungkook's dismissal, Ji-eun bit her lips nervously, feeling a pang of hurt at his cold behavior. Despite this, she persisted and extended the napkin again, attempting to wipe the sweat off his forehead. Jungkook's reaction surprised her as he grabbed her wrist firmly, pulling her closer to him with a dangerous intensity in his gaze.
"What are you doing? Just go away," Jungkook's voice was sharp, cutting through the air as he released her wrist abruptly.
Taken aback by his sudden aggression, Ji-eun managed a forced smile, trying to maintain her composure. "I was just here to see your practice," she explained softly, but Jungkook ignored her words and attempted to leave the place.
Refusing to let him walk away without addressing the issue, Ji-eun followed him, her voice quivering slightly as she spoke. "Don't follow me, Ji-eun," Jungkook growled, his frustration evident in his tone.
Feeling hurt and confused, Ji-eun couldn't hold back her emotions any longer. "Finally, I am not blind, Jungkook. Why are you being distant from me? Aren't we friends?" she cried out, desperation creeping into her voice.
Jungkook stopped abruptly, his expression unreadable as he turned to face her. "We are not friends, not like in your head, okay?" His words were cold, devoid of the warmth and familiarity she had once felt from him.
Tears welled up in Ji-eun's eyes as she struggled to understand his sudden change in attitude. "But you said we were," she whispered, her voice filled with hurt and confusion.
Jungkook's response was firm, his tone icy as he delivered his final blow. "Forget it. I changed my mind."
With those words hanging heavily in the air, Jungkook turned away from Ji-eun, leaving her standing there, heartbroken and questioning everything she thought she knew about their relationship.
Ji-eun's heart shattered as she watched Jungkook's cold dismissal of their friendship. Unable to contain her emotions any longer, she grabbed the napkin and threw it at him in a fit of hurt and frustration. The napkin hit his head, causing him to stop in his tracks and turn to look at it lying on the floor.
For a moment, there was a tense silence between them as Jungkook picked up the napkin. Without a word, he threw it out of the window, letting it flutter down into the pool beside the stadium. His action spoke volumes, a clear indication of his desire to distance himself from any reminder of their connection.
Ji-eun stood there, tears threatening to spill from her eyes as she watched him walk away. Her heart felt heavy with disappointment and confusion. She had believed in their friendship, in the bond they shared, only to have it shattered by Jungkook's abrupt change in demeanor.
Feeling a mix of anger and sadness, Ji-eun wiped away her tears and took a deep breath. As Jungkook disappeared from her view, Ji-eun made a silent promise to herself to move forward, to find strength in the face of adversity.
---
The same napkin, did she pick it up after I threw it in the pool. Those wounds fresh in my mind like it was yesterday, how badly I wanna hug her and tell her how guilty I was after knowing the reason her tears was me, the reason eating me like a parasite all this time.
Ji-eun looked at me with, her eyes softening which how matter how cold or grumpy she acts with me or just she agreed to marry me for her father destruction she couldn't hide her emotions. "And next time, use the elevator," she teased lightly, knowing how I preferred to take the stairs for a quicker exit.
A soft laughed escaped my mouth, feeling a sense of warmth and comfort in Ji-eun's presence, all again.
---
I excused himself from Ji-eun as we were done shopping and were about to exit the store when my phone rang with a name flashing on the screen, that I couldn't avoid . I stepped away to take the call, my expression attentive as I listened to the voice on the other end.
"Yes, Namjoon Hyung?" My tone was respectful yet business-like, indicating that the call held some importance. There was a reason he would contact me, and I knew it very well.
On the line, Namjoon's voice sounded urgent as he spoke. "Jungkook, we have a found something really important. I need you to come to my office immediately." Namjoon explained, his voice carrying a sense of urgency.
My brows furrowed slightly, understanding the gravity of Namjoon's words. "I'll be there right away," I responded promptly, ending the call and turning back to Ji-eun.
