#1. The Sacred Bond
Love is a beautiful feeling. It's not confined to a couple, though. It prevails in everything around us, and it's the most sacred thing in the world. It's cherished when it's shared with someone who knows you better than you know yourself. The most sacred bond is said to be between a mother and her child, and after that comes the bond between siblings. The cherry on the cake is when the little sister is pampered by her elder brother. Of course, the scoldings are implied, but the love overpowers them, leaving no place for scoldings and tears. That's the beauty of love.
In the vast city of Mumbai, there's a family that holds love as their priority, traditions are primary, and their thinking is modern. They are open-minded, but also concerned. They are the Malhotras - Lalit and Savita Malhotra. They're blessed with two children, the elder son, Vineet, and the younger daughter, Nitya Malhotra.
Vineet is usually the calm soul, while Nitya mirrors his silent personality with her constant chirping.
She's the chirping bird of the house, and whenever she's not home, the place seems to be covered with gray clouds. Her constant chirping, the leg-pulling of her brother, and playing pranks are the soul of the house. Lalit and Vineet are highly concerned for her, but Vineet is a little more protective of his sister, Nitya.
It's a fine day in the Malhotra household. Vineet enters the house after his morning jog and finds his parents relishing their morning tea. He glances at the wall clock; it's 7 AM. He looks at his mother, asking about Nitya. Savita glances at her son,
"Vineet beta, vo hamari kahan sunti hai? Jab tak tu usey jagayega nahi, wo nahi jaagegi, vaise bhi usey humse pehle tera chehra dekhna hota hai," Savita says, her tone teasing.
"Maa, aap bhi na, aisa kuch nahi hai. Ye uski zidd hai," Vineet says, running his hand through his hair.
"Aur tu aur tere papa uski har zidd puri karte ho. Main keh deti hun dono se, usko itna ziddi mat banao, nahi toh vo sabse yahi expect karegi ki uski har baat maani jayegi," Savita says, concern lingering in her voice.
"Uh oh, Ma, please! Aap phir se usi baat pe aa gai. Nitya abhi college mein hai, aur rahi shaadi ki baat, toh wo uski pasand se hogi. Chinta mat karo, wo sab sambhal legi," Vineet tries to assure his mom, as she always brings up the topic of marriage at least once a day.
"Han, han, vaise bhi tum dono ke aage meri kahan chalti hai," Savita mocks sadness, causing Vineet to smile.
He moves ahead only to hug his mom, kissing her on the forehead. This is a gesture that warms Savita's heart, coming from her son. It's a kind of reassurance that he'll always be there and will manage through every storm that comes their way. As the mother and son share their moment, a cute voice falls on their ears.
"Haww, aap dono mujhe kaise bhool sakte ho?" It's Nitya; she's covering her eyes, but peeping through her fingers.
"You're cheating, Gudiya! Tujhe kaun bhul sakta hai? Idhar aa!" Saying so, Vineet pulls her by her free hand, and Nitya removes her hand from her eyes, only to glance at her elder brother.
"Good morning, Dada!" She greets him but doesn't hug him, which leaves him surprised.
"Arey, where's my morning hug?" He asks, stunned as Nitya walks towards their father, sits beside him, and leans into him, embracing him. Lalit too, wraps his arms around his daughter.
"Aapne meri morning hug, Mumma ko dedi, isliye no hugs for you," Nitya rolls her eyes at her elder brother, who's gazing at her, his lips curving into a small smile.
"Ye toh cheating hai na, Gudiya," He retorts, but she nods negatively.
"No, it's fair. Aapne suna nahi "pyaar aur jung mein sab jayaz hota hai". You should know this, Bhaiya," Nitya chides him, her tone teasing and mischief twinkling in her eyes.
"Meethi, filmein kam dekha kar! Bahut zyada nautanki karne lagi hai tu," Savita says, her tone light yet concerned.
"Maa, serious hone ke liye Dada kaafi hain, main dramatic hi thik hoon. Dekho, jab main ghar pe nahi hoti hoon toh kaise aap log udaas ho jaate ho, aur abhi dekho, sab muskura rahe hain. Agar main bhi Dada jaisi ho gayi, toh baat nahi banegi na," Nitya says, teasing her brother for his silent and workaholic nature.
"Aur phir meri bhabhi ka kya hoga? Dada toh itne shant hai ki vo pehel karenge nahi, vo bore ho jayengi," Nitya says, her eyes fixed on her elder brother, who chokes on the water he's drinking.
"Bhabhi?? Kya bol rahi hai tu, Meethi?" He asks, stuttering at the moment.
"Sach keh rahi hoon, Dada. Aap agar aise hi kaam karoge toh koi ladki pategi nahi aapse, fir Ma pareshan hoti rahengi. Vaise bhi kisi ladki ko aap apne paas aane nahi dete, aur agar kisi ko aane diya toh vo aapke saath bore ho jayegi," Nitya says, her tone teasing.
There's an amused expression on Nitya's face; she's clearly enjoying this banter with her brother. She giggles, while Vineet glares at her.
"Main Ma se kehti hoon wo aapke liye ladki dekhna shuru kare, vo better rahega, hai na, Dada?" She questions, a smile playing on her lips.
"Nahi, uski zarurat nahi hai," Vineet says, feeling warmth spreading across his cheeks at the thought of marriage.
"Kyun nahi? Aapne ladki dekhi hai? Batao, kaun hai? Nahi toh main dhundhti hoon apne liye bhabhi. Maa, "Mission Bhabhi" shuru karo," She grins at her brother, who throws a cushion at her.
She catches the cushion, and her laughter rings in the room before the siblings break into a run, chasing each other. Nitya keeps teasing Vineet, but soon Vineet holds her wrist, and they come to a stop, breaking into laughter.
Nitya leans into her brother, resting her head on his chest, while he envelops her in his arms. Their bond is a testament to the love, care, and respect that they hold for each other. The pious bond of siblings is what holds them together as they promise each other to navigate through the obstacles of life together.
