2. Chapter
The start of the mission
Loki and Leah were writing to each other everytime they had to be apart. That was very regular, actually, because Leah was a valkyrie and she had a lot of business across the Nine Realms. She has been traveling months every year and at that time Loki was responsible for taking care of her plants. As much as he wasn't impressed by them he tried really hard to keep them alive and growing. He asked the court's gardener about almost every different species on the field and in the garden. When the gardener had enough of him, he gave a book to Loki in which he could find everything he needed.
His letters were mostly about Loki's tricks, what was going on in the palace and how the garden was doing. Leah responded as soon as she got Loki's writing, she raved about her journey, how she was doing, how much the constant fight tired her. And they both wrote about how much they missed each other...
Loki kept all of these letters and now, back in the dark room he had nothing else left than just read and cry over them. He cried more than ever before in his life. He reached a point where he was no longer able to shed tears. He was just sitting on the cold floor and holding on to the same letters, reading them over and over. They really were his only material remains of Leah.
There was of course Leah's bedroom, where they had been joking around, giving booka to each other and practising their magic skills. They also liked to play chess, a game Leah brought back from Midgard from one of her journeys. But he could not bare to see the now empty room, waiting for it's new owner.
A lot of courtesans came to his chambers, propably sent by Odin or Thor. He let them in and for the first time Lpki didn't have any means to lay with them. He tried just once, but he felt no pleasure and he got exhausted quickly. The few ones in the bigening, he chased away out of pure rage. After that he just let them in, offered them his food and ignored them. It was strange for him looking back. When Leah was still there, he enjoyed all that life had to offer. Great food, great women, great entertainment and fine wine. Oh hell, how many times did Leah beg him to let go of these things, mostly the courtesans who she said even if they were the most successful and experienced in making him happy in the moment, will never make him satisfied in the long run.
But one day, a woman was knocking on his door again. He usually didn't ask their names right away so he just let her in. But that woman... she wasn't dressed in expensive silk, instead she was wearing an armor. She also had a sword and a shield, looking just like what valkyries were using at the time.
- I am a friend of Leah, not quite sure if you remember me, my prince. We once met when Leah could not make it home until you were staying in Asgard.
- You were the one, who gave me her letter before I visited Jöttunhem?
- Yes, my prince.
- If you were a friend of Leah's you must have known what her original name was. - Loki didn't want to make any conclusions yet but he hadn't had any explanation why this woman was here unless...
- Her name was Violet.
- Where was she born?
- On Midgard.
- Was she a human then?
- Definitely not, my prince. She was born from asgardian parents.
- You must have a reason why you are here...
- My name is Nora, my prince. I was on her last mission with Leah.
- Leah wasn't going away because of a mission.
- She was, my prince. She was going on a very dangerous one, but it wasn't asked from her by her commander. She was going to Midgard to save you, my prince.
Loki remembered the night Leah went away and he could bet on she was going away because of him not for him. But what this woman was saying made him curious if she could know anything about where Leah was.
- Tell me everything you know, valkyrie.
So Nora stayed there, told him everything about what she knew of Leah. She found out that human scientists invented some kind of machine that made them able to see in the future, to see visions that they specifically was searching for. They founded an organization with a main task to prevent events that are endangering human lives. They were capturing everyone who was seen in this visions, every living creature that was dangerous for them. They saw that Loki will try to take over Midgard, and that claiming his throne will make him kill a hella lot of people. They could not let that happen so they started planning to hunt him down. Leah's plan was to erase the vision, they were able to reach the FBI's headquarters and even to get to the machine. Using Leah's magic it was kind of easy, until a point when they have been caught. They let her go to deliver a message. Loki couldn't come to Midgard or else they would kill Leah.
- So first, it means that Leah is still alive, but she has been captured and second, I cannot try to save her.
- It is up to you, my prince. If you try to rescue her there is a great risk she might die. If you don't then she will live her whole life in prison just so you would leave Midgard alone.
- There is no way I'm gonna let her rot in jail. She deserves so much better
- Then you shall get ready, my prince.
In Nora's words there was a warning Loki sensed. He clearly wasn't in the condition he could visit Midgard and get through the FBI's security system. He had to get his strentgh back first and plan the whole thing out. He had to start living again, to want to live again cause there was finally a point. Leah needed him just as much as he needed her.
So Loki started to eat again, to go outside, spend time doing his royal duties. He convienced his family that he finally mourned Leah and was ready to move on. He started training again both his dueling and his magic. When the nights came he went back to his room to study the building of the FBI's headquarters. He wanted to know the secret routes, exits, entrances and hidden corridors. He had to practice his enchanting skills. Leah left her laptop back at her room, so Loki took it before her commander couls get his hands on it. He said it was only to help him remember her by something, but the truth was that Leah paid someone skilled enough on Midgard to hack the FBI's database. He went through the informations again and again, reserched every employee from the lowest ranks to the highest commanders and principals. He wanted to make sure he knew everything right so he could not be detected. But he knew that he was being watched over from time to time so he had to figure out a way he could get out of his family's sight. And of the sight of the valkyrie squat aswell, of course. They knew that Leah had precious information and they went far to get it. By the time he gave away the laptop after being asked multiple times, he knew everything he could possibly need. He only had one thing in mind that could cure his suffering...
A few weeks went by since Loki started to get better. He looked way better, started his tricks again for everybody's annoyance. He was doing fine and didn't mention Leah anymore. But Thor sensed some kind of emptiness in his brother's words still. It was obvoius to him that he was lying but he couldn't do anything about it.
When they were having a feast to celebrate Loki's comeback he raised his glass to say a toast.
- I am glad that my people and my family is happy to get me back, but I need to disappoint you all. I lied to you by pretending I am over my loss. I could not get over my sorrow no matter how much or how hard I tried. It means that I finally realised I do not want to continue my suffering. Let's call it mercy to myself and realisation not suicide, please. Mother, father, brother, it doesn't matter now how much did I show it to you but you have to know that I respected you all, and loved you very much too. Please, forgive me...
It was kind of strange how nobody said anything, Loki suspended they were too much in shock. He raised his glass again and drank the wine. Seconds later, he collapsed. Frigga screamed heartbreakingly and took his son in her arms. He wasn't breathing and his heart started to beat slower...
