Chapter 8
Kongpob stared at the message he just received from the said doctor he had been contacting for the past one month. He let out a deep breath as he sends an 'ok' to the doctor.
Kongpob turned back from where he was standing at the balcony to meet Arthit's sleeping face, the blanket covering his naked body. They just had a heated makeout yesterday night which lasted till god knows when.
Kongpob hasn't told anyone about his decision, except for Chai and Arthit's father, David. David had already planned how to control Arthit for the three months Kongpob was going to disappear. But the first thing is he has to take leave from his office.
Kongpob sighed, he walked back into the room and unlocked the door and opened it, trying to not wake Arthit with the sound. He walked down the stairs to the kitchen to prepare tea for three people inside the house.
Kongpob was absent-minded as he prepared the tea. Things happening for the past few months flashed through his memories, from the moment he got that notice that was going to change his life from his office dustbin to this moment where he has to face it now.
Kongpob waited for the tea maker to do its job while he just waited, staring at the tea maker as if it held all the answers for his insecurities.
Kongpob was startled when the machine beeped. He took the three glasses and poured the black tea into it, and then mixed milk powder into it.
Kongpob absent-mindedly started stirring the glass of tea for longer than needed and David who came into the kitchen stared at Kongpob with raised eyebrows.
David walked forward and stood near the counter just two feet away from Kongpob.
"Don't you think you should stop stirring now?" David asked. He chuckled when he saw Kongpob's eyes widened and he shyly nodded at him.
Kongpob handed David his tea while he took one in his hand and started to walk away to wake Arthit up.
"Kong," David called softly.
Kongpob looked back at David confused.
"The doctor set the date I think, am I right?" He asked tow hitch Kongpob sighed and nodded his head.
David smiled widely at Kongpob, "Great! The only problem we'll have is to deal with Arthit, but don't worry I'll manage it."
Kongpob looked at the cup of tea in his hand and nodded.
Seeing that Kongpob was again distressed David couldn't help but sigh.
"Kongpob, come here."
Kongpob looked up to meet David's fatherly smile. He walked towards David after keeping the cup on the counter.
Soon Kongpob was engulfed in David's warm hug. Kongpob closed his eyes and relaxed at the fatherly secure he got. David caressed Kongpob's hair.
"You're my son just like Arthit and I'm not your biological father but Kong, for you I'm always ready to be the dad you have missed throughout your life. Do you get me?"
David felt Kongpob nodding against his chest.
"It's been six years you and Arthit have been in a relationship and as time changed, you both changed from university students to working men. And Kong, I'll tell you something," David broke their hug and made Kongpob look at him.
"After Arthit's mother passed away when he was 15 I have never seen my son smile soo bright and genuinely until you came into his life. And I'm grateful for that Kong. You're like an angel in his life. And Kong I'll do anything for keeping you both happy."
Kongpob smiled and nodded his head.
"I told you from the beginning when you told me about the surgery that I'll handle things right?"
Kongpob nodded.
"Don't overthink. More than you, Arthit will be the one who'll be happy to hear your voice Kong," David smiled wide when he saw Kongpob chuckle.
"And I remind you, always think positive. The surgery will go well, do you hear me?" David asked to which Kongpob nodded shyly.
"Now go, wake that sleepy head and tell about the so-called business trip we planned," David winked at Kongpob who chuckled back.
Kongpob took the teacup from the counter and walked upstairs to their room. It was Saturday and Kongpob and Arthit had made plans to visit the orphanage that day.
Kongpob walked inside the room and stared at the empty bedroom in confusion. He placed the teacup on the bedside table and was about to turn around when he felt a hand circle his waist.
"You smell good."
Kongpob chuckled when he heard Arthit's voice behind him.
Kongpob turned around to face Arthit who still had messy hair and topless. Kongpob traced his fingers on Arthit's chest. He looked up at Arthit who had a soft smile playing on his lips.
Kongpob placed a soft kiss on Arthit's lips before he hugged the latter tight, his face buried in Arthit 's chest as he inhaled the natural scent of the other.
Arthit hugged the latter back and was confused when he felt the hug turn right than usual. Somehow he felt that Kongpob was uncomfortable with something that is in his mind.
"Kong, you okay?" Arthit asked softly as he caressed Kongpob's soft hair.
Kongpob pulled away.
"What?" Arthit asked concerned.
Kongpob took a deep breath before he signed, "I told you earlier about the business trip that the company is planning right?"
"Yeah, you did. What about that? Any issues?" Arthit asked.
Kongpob shook his head, "I got a mail from the department head today and it said we have to leave next week."
Arthit's eyes widened. Kongpob had told him about an important meeting abroad with a new company and he remembered Kongpob told him it may take at least three months to return back.
"Three months, right?" Arthit asked, his voice small.
Kongpob sighed and nodded his head.
"I'm sorry Arthit, I wouldn't be there for your birthday, " Kongpob signed.
Arthit gave a worried smile and shook his head.
"It's okay Kong, birthdays will come and go. You'll be there for my future birthdays and that's more than enough for me. This opportunity will not come twice. I'll wait for you to return, " Arthit placed a kiss on Kongpob's forward.
Kongpob hugged Arthit. His eyes closed as he listened to Arthit's heartbeat. In these six years of being in a relationship, neither of them had been apart for more than a week. This was difficult for them, especially Kongpob who had no idea what would happen next.
Kongpob felt awful for lying to Arthit but it's for the good. He didn't want Arthit to have his hopes up incase things go wrong. He know that the chances for success is 50% so he himself didn't held so much hope.
But if things so as planned, Kongpob was sure he'll be able to give one of the best gift to Arthit.
