Ch 2: Flight

Narrator's POV

"Now vhere could the prince have gone?"  Elizabeta wondered out loud as she, Vash, and Roderich flew around the area.

"He is not in zhe forest."  Roderich reported.  Elizabeta shook her head.

"And I didn't see him by the lake or the river."  She replied.  Vash approached them.

"I think I have a lead."  He said.  He then dived towards the meadow with the other two following.  Once there, he landed by a tree where the group found a golden feather and a flower crown, the crown looking crumpled.

"Zhat is definitely his majesty's feather."  Roderich said, picking the feather up.

"And this crown..."  Elizabeta said, inspecting it.  "It looks like the kind Prince Matthew often makes, just-"

"Trampled, I know,"  Vash said.  "But we all know that Prince Matthew would never trample or crush a flower, so I think someone else must've come here."  Vash stated.  Elizabeta and Roderich nodded.

"Yes, but who?"  Elizabeta asked.  Vash shook his head.

"I'm not sure, I can't feel a magical presence."  He responded.

"Neither can I but I zhink zhat zhey left a trail."  Roderich said, pointing to some trampled bushes.

The three quickly hurried through the forest, keeping an eye out for any signs of nature that were disturbed.  As they continued forward, they caught a glimpse of red.

They stopped and observed as a cloaked high level demon seemed to be hurrying towards a cliff.

"Stop right there demon!"  Elizabeta called as the others quickly circled the demon.

"Vhat?"  The demon replied.

"Vhat have jou been doing in the meadow back there?"  Elizabeta said, pointing behind them.  The demon shook his head.

"Nothing except escaping zhe chaos of hell vith a nice valk."  The demon replied.  None of them bought it.

"I demand to know where the prince is."  Vash commanded.  The demon turned to him, face still hidden.

"And vhy vould I know vhere jour prince is?"  The demon said.

"Because jou were there in zhe meadow with him."  Vash answered.  The demon turned his head away.

"Nein, I have been here all by mein lonesome."  The demon said.  Still, none of the angels believed him.  The demon, Gilbert, who had been trying so hard not to give himself away, could tell that they still didn't believe his lies by the way they moved closer to him.

Left with no other option, Gilbert opened his wings and took off, trying his hardest to lose the angels, but they would not be lost easily.  Zipping through trees, Gilbert was forced to dive up, not noticing Vash who had conjured a spear of light.

Vash threw the spear, Gilbert seeing it at the last second.  Gilbert managed to dodge, but his cloak was ripped, along with the pocket that held the mirror.  Gilbert panicked as he felt the mirror slip away from him.

Gilbert forced himself to reverse direction and tried diving for the mirror as Elizabeta dived to grab it.  Just as Gilbert was about to reach out and grab it, he was struck in the shoulder by an arrow from Roderich.

Gilbert was forced to halt in the air as Elizabeta caught the mirror and glanced into it, gasping.

"Prince Matthew!"  She screeched.  Gilbert clicked his tongue as he held his shoulder.

'Matthew mein awezome Birdie, I'm sorry, but zhe awezome me vill come for jou soon.'  Gilbert silently thought as he hurried towards a cliff, diving into the portal, and closing it up behind him.

Seeing as they lost the demon, Roderich and Vash hurried over to Elizabeta who held the mirror. Glancing inside, the two gulped as they saw the image of their prince, appearing unconscious.

"Does anyone here know how to get him out?"  Vash asked.  The other two shook their heads.

"Nein, but perhaps zhe king vill know."  Roderich suggested.  The other two nodded and flew towards heaven, Elizabeta keeping an eye on the sleeping prince while Roderich and Vash kept a look out for anymore demons.
