I woke up and stretched my arms out. I was still laying on the couch with my head in Pete's lap, however he had since fallen asleep as well. The tv was playing softly in the background playing some random game show channel. I just payed there for a second observing the way that he slept. The slow and soft intake of breath that was so peaceful. I sat up weakly and placed a lazy kiss on his Adams apple hoping to wake him up. he began to stir softly and I sat up going to the kitchen and pouring a cup of milk.
"So, are you going to tell me where you were for 12 hours yesterday?" He asked me readjusting his glasses on his nose.
"We've got to go to the police station." I said simply not explaining it to him. I had been tracking police activity since we got here. It seemed that they were frantically trying to figure out the mysterious 'suicides' happening around the city. Since the deaths of Jessie and Jason Hanson there had been 5 of these deaths in San Fransisco alone, 2 more in the Big Sir area and a few more in the quiet areas of Northern California. He rubbed his eyes and nodded his head.
"What's wrong with you?"
"I have to talk to some cops, and I only want to tell the story once." I grabbed the keys from the finding table and went down the stairs with my confused boyfriend close behind. I threw him the keys and we climbed into the car. He started the car, and he drove me down to the police station.
"So... So, I am so confused." He mumbled spinning the keys around his index finger.
"Give it a few minutes, and it will all make sense." We walked in the building and were greeted by a million rushing people clad in everything from suits and ties to officers uniforms. I almost immediately felt a pang of nostalgia in my gut. I reached in my wallet and pulled out the badge that Officer Stevens had made for Will and I. I smiled at the lady at the front desk and showed her the badge. "Hi... Um I need to talk to the chief."
"I'm sorry sir, but uh he is busy today." She responded with a sugary sweet smile.
"This is really, really important." I said softly leaning further and further to her desk.
"Sir, please."
"No, I need to talk to him." I sighed, "Like now..."
"Do I need to call security?"
"No, just listen..." She reached for the phone and began to dial, "No, don't do that..." I chuckled and reached over the desk pushing the phone back to the receiver. She eyed me and moved my hand away before picking the phone back up. I didn't stop her this time and just stood there next to the desk tapping my foot anxiously. Two burly dudes came up the into the room and grabbed me by my elbows. "Can you. Please just stop, and let me talk to the chief?"
"No... Shut up." One of them said to me. I let out a heavy breath and looked at Pete who was standing there with a worried look on his features. One of the guards motioned for Pete to sit which he did. I blew him a kiss before they led me down the hallway to the holding cells. The threw me lightly into one and slid the heavy iron gate across the track before locking it and turning away.
"I've got information!" I yelled desperately, "About the suicides!" It seemed as if time stopped as they practically pulled the break and looked back at me with daggers in their eyes.
"What?" They said in unison.
"The suicides..." I said with an air of cockiness lacing my voice.
"What do you know?"
"I need to talk to the chief." I dead panned. They looked at each other and sighed before coming back to me. One of them unlocked the cage while the other tightened a pair of handcuffs on my wrists. I twisted my hands uncomfortably which only made it worse. The one who cuffed me lead me back into the office and into a tiny room. It was painted a dark brown and smelled of mildew and dust. Behind a desk stacked with papers sat a man who was not the stereotypical police chief. He was thin from what I could see and was actually pretty attractive. He had a full head of luscious black hair slicked back to perfection.
"Officer Martinez, how can I help you?" He said confidently with a significant trace of a Hispanic drawl.
"I have information about the suicides in the area."
"Okay... I'm listening." He said leaning back in his chair.
"Can someone go get my boyfriend? He has no idea what is going on..." I said jerking my thumb to the doorway. "And please... Take this god forsaken cuffs off of me, I'm no criminal."
"How am I supposed to know that?"
"I worked directly under Chief officer Stevens in my hometown," I took a deep breath, every officer in California had heard of Chief Officer Michael Stevens. He was notorious in a good way. "Now do you believe me?"
"Go get the boyfriend and take off the cuffs." He said waving his hands at the guards. One of them unlocked the cuffs and within a few minutes Peter was back at my side. He was wringing his hands anxiously and a bead of sweat appeared on his forehead.
"You're scaring me..." He whispered.
"It's fine. We're gonna bust some bitches today..."
