One last time
The next morning.
"Hey dad, can I talk to you?"
"Sure. What's up, Brad?"
"It's about the wedding."
"Alright?"
"Um.. So.."
"Yeah?"
"I would really appreciate it if.. if you weren't there."
"Excuse me?"
"You have zero respect for me and Ziah. You treat mom like shit, you just have a very negative personality. I don't want that type of energy at my wedding."
"I may not agree with a lot of things, but I you're my son, and I will be at your wedding!"
"Why? So you can judge us?"
"I just want to be there."
"Fine but don't you dare say a word! You will go and sit there! I don't want you giving mom shit either!"
"Whatever."
Bradley sighs and walks away.
He didn't trust his father to behave like a normal person on his wedding day.
***
April 4th.
Wedding day.
Since the engagement party, Jessica has tried her best to avoid Idris. Pushing her feelings for him aside, and really trying to focus on her boys.
Idris has tried contacting Jessica just to chat, but has not gotten a response.
This morning Jessica woke up to a good morning text.
*Good morning! I hope you're not upset with me. I'm sorry if you think I shouldn't have gone through with what we did. I thought we both wanted it. I don't want things to be awkward today. I want to just celebrate our boys. I can't wait to see you.*
Jessica took a deep breath before shutting her phone off and getting out of the bed.
**
"I can't believe my baby's getting married! Bradley, I wish you a lifetime of happiness with Ziah. Please known that you can come to me for anything! I promise you I will always always be here for you two."
"Thank you, momma. Thank you so much. We love you!" Bradley wraps his arms around his mother and kisses her cheek.
"I'm so happy! Everything looks perfect, and you look STUNNING! I have such a beautiful mommy." Bradley smiles.
"Aww! Actually, I am looking rather spicy today." Jessica smiles.
"You are!" Bradley laughs.
**
Bradley wanted his mother to walk with him down the aisle. His exact words were, "I held your finger when I was a newborn. You held my hands as I learned to walk. You held my hand as I walked into my first day of school. I want you to hold my hand as I walk towards my future."
That of course made Jessica cry tears of happiness.
As Jessica walked her baby boy down the aisle, Idris felt himself go numb. He hadn't seen Jessica since the engagement party, and seeing her now made him go crazy. She was absolutely stunning. Her skin glowing, and her hair as gold as the sun. Idris wished so badly that things were different.
**
Later that evening Jessica had a few glasses of wine, and was beginning to feel pretty good!
Idris has kept his distance the entire night, but he couldn't any longer.
"Hello, Mrs. Murphy." He walks up to her.
Jessica turns to him and smiles very softly. He looked so handsome all dressed up.
"Hello, Idris.
Everything came out beautiful, huh?"
"It did. I can tell the boys loved it."
"That's all that matters." Jessica smiles and downs the rest of her wine.
"So this place belongs to who again?"
"My mother. When she retired we had it built for her."
"So sweet..
I uh.. I saw the barn.."
"Yeah, she loves her animals." Idris chuckles softly.
"So do I.."
"You wanna.. you wanna take a look at it? We could go really quick."
"Sure."
Idris smiles and leads the way.
There was quite a long walk to the barn. It was filled with awkward small talk.
Once finally getting to the barn, Jessica smiled at the animals. "Aw how cute! Hi little guys!" Jessica giggles.
Idris smiles softly, and placed his hands in his pockets.
"So.. did you get my text this morning? Or in the past month?"
Jessica pauses for a moment.
".. Yes. I did.."
"Why didn't you respond?"
"I just.. I.."
"What?"
"For the past month I've tried forgetting about you. Forgetting you even exist! But I can't! And it's killing me that I can't!"
"Why do you have to do that?"
"Because I have such strong feelings for you, and I know we can't do anything about it! I cannot be with my son's father in law, I can't! I would officially be the Queen of white trash!"
Idris couldn't help but chuckle.
"You wouldn't look so great either, buddy!"
"No, I know.. I hate that I like you so much.
I hate that I forgot how beautiful you are until I saw you today. I hate that your skin glows like an angel, and that your eyes hypnotize me. I hate that I think you're the most beautiful woman on this planet!" Idris slightly raises his voice.
"You're right.. we can never be together. We could never get married. It suck sucks but.. I mean, that would make our married sons, Brothers!"
Jessica laughs and nods her head.
"I hate life sometimes. It's so cruel!"
"It is.."
"I mean, love is love! Who cares?
Why does it have to be wrong?"
"It just is.."
"I know.. but.."
"But what?"
Jessica looks at Idris.
"Fuck the world right now."
"Yeah?" Idris smiles softly.
"Fuck. The. World."
Idris chuckles.
"Let's do it one last time!" Jessica smiles.
"What could one last time hurt?" Idris places his hands on Jessica's waist.
"Nothing at all! No one has to know! It'll just be our little secret. This will never EVER come out!"
"Good." Idris mumbles into her neck.
"One last time, so make it good!"
"I'll try my best."
