Under the same roof
School finally ended and I had promised Kiba that I would spend some time with him after school. I decided to have him over to check out my new bedroom at the Uchiha's residence.
After all, he hasn't seen my new place yet.
He would always be over at my previous apartment despite how old, stinky and dysfunctional everything was.
I inserted the key into the main door to open it and noticed none of the brothers shoes were not at the doorway. I had a sense of relief rushing through me while turning over my shoulder to signal Kiba to come in sneakily.
Wait, why am I behaving stealthily in my own home? It almost feels as if I'm doing something wrong, but theres nothing wrong with bringing my friend home!
"Woah, these jerk brothers have a biiiig house." Kiba commented as he walked up the stairs to my room, taking this chance to analyse the interior of the house. "Wooooah, your bedroom is huuuge! You even have a private bathroom in your room now?!" Kiba teleported all over the place, seemingly checking out every little corner and detail of my room.
He was right. My old room and house were much smaller and cramped. The interior was falling apart and old fashioned. It must be an big difference upgrading to a 5 star hotel looking bed room.
We settled in and studied for our finals while having casual conversations in between on the floor. With textbooks, notebooks and stationary scattered all over the ground again, it started to feel like how it was once. Before I was associated with..
I almost jumped out of my skin when I heard noise coming from the first floor. It had one of the brothers returning home from school. I immediately stopped conversing to listen out for a voice.
The footsteps were now moving up the stairs, closer to my door now.
My heart raced as I heard a female's voice, giggling as they move further from my room and into the direction of another bedroom.
It couldn't be Itachi, he's not the type to..
It had to be him.
I began to regain my composure as I heard the bedroom door shut in the distance.
But Kiba nudged me, startling me again. "You alright? You look.. distracted." I shook my head vigorously. "I-I'm just lost by this question!" Avoiding his eye contact as I pointed down to my mock test paper question.
It's no good. I can't study or focus at all like this. I should really consider moving out. But where to? And will I be able to afford it? Because I had a great relationship with my previous landlord, I was never required to pay the rent in full, on time. I had time to work jobs during the school holidays to pay off the outstanding amounts.
Where can I find a landlord as patient and trusting like him?
While I was zoning out again, Kiba was leaning down closer to read the question I was stuck on from the textbook that was under me. Man, that's easy! It's-" He looked up to me, and his voice pulled me out of my worried thoughts again. My eyes diverted to his from the textbook, and he was in the motion of looking up to me. His head collided with my chin by accident.
"Owh!" My best friend yelped out loud from the impact.
"Crap, I'm so sorry!" I apologised frantically, rubbing the top of his head. His brown locks of hair felt so soft and fluffy. He laughed out loud,
"Is your chin made out of steel? That hurt like hell!"
I cracked a smile and began chuckling too, realising how stupid and clumsy we are.
"I don't think I can study anymore, I have a concussion." Kiba continued cackling to himself, trying to find excuses to not study.
"Neither can I. I think I broke my jaw." I carried on snickering with my hand attempting to soothe his aching head. Kiba cupped my chin, checking to see if I was alright.
Abruptly, my bedroom door swung my open.
It was Sasuke Uchiha, terrifyingly towering over us.
We instantly stopped giggling, staring up at him. But he didn't utter a word, returning the glare at Kiba and I. His eyes shifted from our faces to Kiba's fingers holding my chin and my hand on his head.
I decided to break the silence as I withdrew my hand from Kiba, "I said you can't always come into my room without permission-"
"This is my house. And I don't recall giving you my permission to have visitors over." He proclaimed, cutting me off before I could finish my sentence. This was his first proper interaction with me within the last 72 hours.
"What the- I am a occupant here! Not your prisoner!" I yelled at him, pushing myself off the ground and up on my two feet.
I was getting really ticked off by his words.
"Sasuke..? Is everything alrigh-" The girl that accompanied Sasuke home emerged from behind him, holding onto his arm to trying to ease the tension in the atmosphere.
Sasuke pulled his arm away, his narrowed eyes still locked in mine. "Get lost." He coldly spat out to her. She seemed taken aback, before realising he was not joking. Humiliated, she quickly ran off crying.
"You too, get lost." His piercing eyes finally
disconnected from mine to land on Kiba.
My best friend clicked his tongue and got up swiftly. He started to pack his textbooks and stuffed them into his school bag.
"Let's study at my house instead, Naruto. At least my mum is not a pain in the ass." One of his hand slung his school bag over his shoulder and the other grabbed my hand firmly.
Sasuke didn't move an inch out of the doorway, he looked pissed off at first. But eventually gave in after hesitation, giving way to Kiba and I. As I passed Sasuke, he gripped my free arm unexpectedly.
He turned around slowly with a scowling expression plastered on his face. He looked as if he wanted to say something but a second later, he gently released me.
"..Sasu-" A whisper escaped from my lips but Kiba interrupted me as he continued dragging me out of the house.
I didn't know what to say to him.
I didn't know what to do.
We left him standing there at my door, he looked motionless. His eyes aimlessly focusing on the ground in silence.
After pretending like I could actually focus on studying with Kiba, we headed to bed. He slept on a mattress on the ground, as he insisted that I take his comfortable bed.
Even with his soft bed, I had trouble sleeping. Tossing and turning, my thoughts kept returning to Sasuke. That final image of him standing at my doorway ached me.
I should try to talk to him tomorrow in school when he has calmed down.
Morning finally arrived, and we were both walking to school together after having breakfast. Kiba's mother is a great cook, her home cooked food reminded me of my own mother.
We were waiting at a traffic light nearby our school when we spotted a pink haired girl jogging up to us, waving.
"Good morning! Wait.. Isn't Sasuke's house that way-" She pointed.
"I was at Kiba's." I quickly answered.
The traffic light turned green. Kiba and I took a few steps onto the road, before realizing Sakura's feet hasn't moved.
We looked back at her, retracing our steps before catching sight of her worried eyes.
"Sakura, what's wrong?" I called out to her, putting my hand onto her shoulder.
"You know.. Ino and I used to be the best of friends. Just like how you and I are now. Until we both fell for Sasuke Uchiha.. I lost a good friend. And now, I'm afraid to lose you too." Her anxious eyes, looked up from the ground, meeting mine. My eyes widen, astonished.
The traffic light turned red and the road became busy with vehicles again.
"I'll never let anything or anyone come between us." My hand patted her shoulder, reassuring her. "Besides, I don't even fancy the Uchiha!" I flashed her a grin.
"But.. But he likes you, right?" Sakura's voice was timid and shaky. I could tell she didn't want to hear the true answer. It was obvious she still has feelings for him.
I shrugged confidently and proceeded to cross the road as the light turned green again, "It's just a stupid game that ended with a stupid crush. I'm sure he's already over it."
She and Kiba followed me, "I know Sasuke, he might be a player, but he isn't the fickle type to have crushes. He's serious when it comes to the person he likes." Her voice still soft as she shook her head.
Sasuke did continue to be head over heels for Sakura even years after their break up. It was only recently that he stopped liking her.
Because he started to lov..
"... Maybe you don't know him anymore. People change, Sakura. It's been years." I simply replied, unsure if I truly believed in the words I said.
