School Trip
“A school trip?” I asked, being handed a piece of paper by the student president.
She nodded. “Yep, your club members rose this year which means you qualify for a trip,” She explained. “You have a teacher lined up for the club already to chaperone so just choose your trip and submit it. It’ll need to be by the end of next week okay?”
I stared at her as she left without another word. We’ve been given enough budget for an overnight stay if we wanted to. Hmm, this is exciting. I smirked, trying to think of what we could do as a trip as I walked to the science club. “We should so some form of viewing party,” I heard a science member pipe up.
“You guys are thinking too much into this,” I heard Ria speak up. In the end her nickname stuck so we’ve continued to call her Ria rather than Emiria. “I doubt Senku really cares about seeing the shuttle come down. A viewing party would be a waste of time.”
“I presume this is about the space craft coming in to land next week,” I mused walking into the room and taking a seat. “A trip that took was meant to take a week took a year. Got to say I may have missed my old man but I'm not ready to throw him a welcome back party.”
“Your dad is up there?” Ria asked and I nodded. “Huh, you should be excited to see him after a year then.”
“Illogical,” I said looking at her dead face. “Worrying about him and missing him is a distraction I don’t need in my pursuit of science.”
“Such a Senku thing to say,” She sighed then smiled. “These guys thought we should have a viewing party to watch the re-entering on television.” I sighed. What morons? Wait, my eyes widened, thinking for a moment. I stood up quickly, slamming the table, a couple of beakers nearly falling to the floor if not for Ria catching them. “The hell Senku?”
“Is the planetarium back open?” I asked looking to a couple of members who I knew regularly went. The looked at each other, obviously confused by my outburst before nodding. “Kukuku, that will be our club trip.”
“Club trip?” Ria repeated my last few words, while the rest cheered. I laughed to myself, this is the best of both worlds, they see the shuttle re-entering the atmosphere while I test them out on their science knowledge on how to survive. The planetarium offers a camping trip to high schools and you use your basic knowledge to survive the night. “You’re doing that weird mad scientist face again.”
“If you guys want to watch the re-entering so much, I will have your forms arranged by the end of the day,” I proclaimed. “It’ll be an overnight trip so be aware of what scientific knowledge you might need for the night, kukuku.”

Within a couple of days, we managed to book our area and get the permission of the school as well as most of the required forms to be signed by students’ parents. Though as usual all but one. I groaned, knowing I shouldn’t care but we want this solved by this week. “Any reason why you haven't handed back your permission form?” I asked leaning over the bench, looking at her face.
I’ve come to notice she has a nervous habit of playing with her hair. “Well um,” She started to blush, looking at the floor. “I kind of haven’t given it to my parents yet.”
“Do you not want to go?” I asked then looked around. Wait a minute. “Is this because you’re the only girl in the group? I get it an overnight stay with just guys is weird I can talk to Yuzuriha, see if she can join in a one of the guys can’t make it?”
“I don’t want to be a bother,” Ria sighed slumping onto the stool. “My mom, is, is pretty protective you see and I don't think she would like me being away on my own.”
I groaned again; this is troublesome. As much as members are a pain, it’s unfortunate when they have to miss out. “I can talk to her,” I offered. “Or we get the teacher to talk to her. This is probably the best type of trip for you, being into the stars and all.”
She remained silent, staring down at the floor. I know what she’s thinking, ‘I don’t want to be a bother to anyone.’ “Let me talk to my father,” she mumbled, almost inaudibly. I’m shocked. Perhaps her dad is the pushover? “He might be able to convince her.” She held out her hand, waiting for me to pass her another permission form.
I smiled, reaching into my pocket and handing over a new form. I can’t help but think, things on the trip wouldn’t be as exciting without her there.
