Chapter 8

"No! Mark, let me go!" Natalia screamed when Mark pulled her to the garden. Two seconds later, she felt the cold water run down her back and gasped. "Mark!"

"That's what you get for thinking you can win this fight. Shame!" Just as Mark turned around, Natalia picked up the bucket from the floor and chucked it at him.

"Shame! I win!" Mark grabbed her by the waist and threw her into the pool. She tried to kick herself up but she kept sinking. Mark watched her flap around and then rushed into the pool to get her out.

After coughing out several amounts of water, Natalia pushed Mark away and stood up with shaky knees. Mark attempted to help her but she pushed him off.

"Don't you dare!"

"What you gonna do? Blame this on me? Who's the one that had to throw the bucket in the first place?! You're the one that wanted a water fight!"

"A water fight, Mark! Not chuck your girlfriend in the pool knowing she can't swim! If you didn't know I couldn't swim, then that would be a different story."

Mark smirked. "So you're my girlfriend now?" With a groan, she pushed him into the pool and then glared at his smiling face.

"That's all you get from that?! God, you're so..." Natalia started to laugh when Mark crossed his arms on the edge of the pool. "...wonderful. Thank you for bringing me here. But I'm still angry at you for pushing me in. I'm gonna see if Jenna has any clothes for me."

Mark watched as she walked back in and pushed himself up. After getting changed, he knocked on Jenna's door and Natalia opened it while in her vest.

"Jenna, I can't find-"

Mark leaned against the frame and winked at her. "Jenna is kinda catchy. But I prefer Mark."

"Mark I can't find anything that will fit. It fits but it's short. Trousers were fine but I can't find a shirt."

"Come on, my lovely, beautiful girlfriend. Let’s see what I can do for you. I am superman after all," he said as he puffed out his chest.

Natalia rolled her eyes and then started to walk to his room. "Just because your hoodie says it, doesn't mean you are."

"You're just jealous. But just pick a hoodie since it's cold. Wrong side of the wardrobe," he said as Natalia opened the left side.

"Why do you have a wedding dress in here? Is there something you're not telling me?"

"Actually, that was my mum's. Jenna likes to remember her like that but she kept it in my cupboard because she just bought a whole new load of clothes and needs to give most to charity. I'll take it out so you can look at it after you put something on. Get something on before you get another cold." Slowly, Mark pulled out the dress and Natalia took out a green hoodie.

"Can I wear this one?"

"My mum got that," he said a little harsh. He didn't intend to but remembering his mum so much made his angry that she wasn't. Natalia put it down and picked up a plain black one instead. She turned around and faced him. "You can wear that..."

Natalia walked out and then shut the door to Jenna's room. Jenna was on the bed. "Hey, do you mind if I change here? I mean in front of you?" As soon as she took off her wet vest, Mark barged into the room.

"You can't wear that! My mum imprinted a message inside! You can't wear that one!" Natalia quickly put on her vest and gave the hoodie back to him. "I'm sorry. Wear this one..." he whispered as he gave her the green hoodie.

"That's okay. I'll just get something from Aunt Paige. Don't worry about." Natalia began walking but Mark pulled her to a stop in the hallway. "I said it was-"

"No. I want you to wear it. You liked it and it's special to me. My mum bought me all my hoodies as well. This one is just extra special. I just want you to wear it so you know how much you mean to me. Go and change it. Your cold is gonna come back. Just go and change." Mark pushed her into the bathroom and she came out in thirty seconds.

Before she saw him, she felt his arms around her waist and his lips against hers. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I didn't mean to shout at you. I love you."

"I know. When is your dad coming back?" she asked when she started to walk towards his bedroom. She picked up a towel from his bed and began to dry her hair.

"He said he's coming back at around one."

"Actually," Paige said as she stood in the doorway. "Your dad said he is coming around three. Guess who tags along? The whole family!"

"That's cool. I get to meet your whole family in one day."

"Trust me, it isn't cool. Do you guys mind helping me with cooking something? I was thinking a barbecue.  Marcus has that shelter built up and it's actually not that cold today. You guys mind helping? I already marinated everything. It's just cooking them, that's all."

"Yeah, we'll be down in a few," Mark said. "You might wanna change out of that. Or you could stay in it. But you're gonna stink like charcoal."

"That's okay. I don't wanna take it off, it's comfy." Mark chuckled and then dragged her downstairs. "Where are the coals?"

"Don't worry, it's already in. Get me the matches. I'll go and get the fire starter."

"Mark, are you forgetting something?"

Mark looked around and then asked, "What?"

"This is the second time I've come here. I don't know where anything is."

"Oh," Mark said as he came back and poured the liquid onto the coal. He then threw some lit matches in and stood back. "Just trying to get out of doing work, aren't you?"

"Hey! I'm not like that!" Mark felt a sharp pain in his arm and turned around.

"Did you just pinch me?"

"Maybe..."

"Oh you are so gonna get it!" Natalia shrieked and then ran into the house. "Talia, you better stop!" Natalia ran into Jenna's room and jumped behind her.

"What on earth is going on?!"

"Talia!" Mark stood in the door way with a cube of ice.

"I'm sorry. I won't do it again, I promise!" She slowly stood up and went towards him. Mark smiled and kissed her head before shoving the ice down her back. "Mark!"

"You can never win with me."

"I'm gonna check on the coals..."

After another twenty minutes, Mark walked into the garden and saw Natalia start to put the chicken on the rack. He put an arm on her shoulder but she shrugged it off. An hour went by in silence as they cooked the food.

"I'm sorry...” Mark whispered as he stood behind her. "I won't do it again.’

"Damn right you won't. I see another ice in your hand and you better be a mile away."

Before Mark could respond, he heard his cousin scream his name.

"Man, I haven't seen you in a month! Oh...was I disturbing something?" his cousin said slowly as he pointed between them. Natalia smiled and pushed Mark over to him.

"Don't worry, he's all yours. He was just leaving anyways."

"Nathan, just give me a minute, okay?" He then turned to Natalia's smiling face. Slowly, he smiled and then kissed her. She felt him circle his arms around her waist and slowly pulled away.

"Your cousins are here...go with them and say hey to everyone while I get the food ready," she said as she let go of him and turned the chicken over. Mark kissed the back of her neck and whispered, "I love you. I'll be back in a couple of minutes, okay? If you need me then scream my name."

"I love you, too. Now go!"
