Chapter 13
Natalia sat waiting for Mark for her first lesson but he didn't show up. Break went by he didn't show up either. It was at lunch when she saw him sitting on the table with Marsha. She looked down at her untouched sandwich while her friends talked about their boyfriends.
"We should so set you up!"
"No, girls, I'm fine," she whispered before standing up. She saw Mark quicken his pace and she quickly got her stuff. Mark grabbed her sandwich and ran after her.
"Talia! Stop, come on! Let me talk!" Natalia stopped and walked to an empty table and sat down. "Talia, I'm sorry," he whispered as he sat beside her. "I'm so sorry."
"Yeah. It's fine. Whatever. I just stayed for lunch to check if you were in. I'm just gonna go home now. Keep the sandwich." Natalia stood up and walked away. Mark followed her.
"Let me at least drop you off. Please?"
"No, I want to go to the library to do my work. My dad is in the house an- forget it. Anyways, how is Marsha?"
"She's fine. I need to go to the library to do my work too. Come on." After ten minutes of debating with each other, they both got into the car. An hour went by in silence in the library until Mark cleared his throat.
"Can I come to your house after we finish?" he asked. Without taking her eyes of her laptop, she said, "I'm pretty sure you have better things to do than comfort me about my useless things."
"Talia, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean any of those things. I just...My mum is gone and I guess I was just jealous you still have your parents."
"You're not the only one that lost their parents, Mark. My mum chose to leave me. She left and she died a year later. That whole year I tried to get back into contact with her but she didn't want me. Your mum was able to tell you how much she loved you every night. Mine never did. I've been through this divorce thing and I don't wanna go through it again."
"I...I...I know sorry isn't enough so can you let me make it up for you? We can go out for lunch. Please?" Natalia smiled and looked up at him.
"You're not gonna give up are you?"
"You know me too well." He held her hand when she stopped typing to smile at him. "Please?"
"Mark, I'm fine, okay? I understood why you did it. You went through that once and I don't want you to go through that again." To prove her point, she leaned forward and gave him a kiss.
"I'm sorry," he whispered.
"It's okay, come on, I'm hungry and a sandwich isn't gonna fill me up." Natalia stood up and Mark stared at her for a minute before standing up. "Come on! Where are you taking me?"
"How about that new Turkish one down the road?"
"Yes! That's where I and the girls went before and the food was great!" Mark entwined their hand as they walked out and went into his car. "I love you Mark. I really do," she whispered when he entered the car.
"Not as much as I love you, Talia. I'm so sorry, Talia. I'm so sorry."
"Hey, I said it was fine. Now drive!"
"Feisty one, aren't you?" Natalia grinned at him and then he started to drive but not before he got a kiss from her. "Hey, do your mum and dad know you are going to lunch with me?"
Natalia shrugged her shoulder as she said, "My mum knows I was going to the library. She knows I stay till late most if the time. And anyways, she would be too busy shou- forget it. She knows I would be out anyways."
"So are you not gonna tell me about your problems anymore? Talia, I said I was sorry!"
"You have enough problems on your plate. And plus, I don't wanna make you go through that stage where you think I'm ungrateful because I've still got my parents. I just...I better just not say anything. Anyways, we are here," she said as she stepped out the car.
Once seated, Mark gave the order and then took out his camera. He saw Natalia staring out the window and silently took a few photos. Only when he accidently pressed the flash was when Natalia turned around and faced him.
"Stop it! Why do you have your camera in here anyways?"
"Because I wanna remember your beautiful face after today. I mean, since I probably won't see you anymore." Natalia laughed softly and leaned forwards as Mark took several more pictures.
"What is that meant to mean? Are you going somewhere or breaking up with me?"
"I feel like you're gonna break up with me after this." Natalia looked down. "It's okay, I don't blame you." She shook her head when she heard the pain thick in his voice.
"I'm just a bit hurt, Mark but I'm not gonna break up with you." She felt his hand on top of hers and looked up. He put his camera down and lifted their joined hands to his lips.
"I love you, Natalia Jenson. I'll make it up to. I promise."
"Careful there. You said you were gonna make it up for last year. Don't add too many things on your plate."
"Why do you spoil my moments for? Anyways, food is here," he cheered as the waiter put down the platter. Before he went, Mark told him to take a picture. He pushed his chair right beside Natalia and put an arm over her shoulder. After taking several pictures, the waiter gave the camera back to him and winked at Natalia before leaving.
"Does he want me to scoop his eye out or something?"
"We met him the other day and oh my God, did he take the pictures. You'll see how many he took. Especially your camera because it's quite quick. But...let’s eat!"
