Kim Taehyung

"OWWW!!" Taehyung screeched as he fell from his bed, the loud alarm clock waking him from his dreams of being a K-Pop Idol and Saxophonist.

It was then that he realised that he was late.

Baekhyun was waiting at the Starship Entertainment lobby.

He had lost all hope in his best friend, since he hadn't shown up to support him while he auditioned to be a trainee. But now he smiled, as he glimpsed Taehyung running into the building, panting heavily and dragging him to the hall filled with scouts and judges.

Taehyung hummed contently, as he watched his hyung get ready for his performance. He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned sharply.

"Excuse me, but are you here to audition?", asked a woman wearing a scout ID.

"Well, I'm just here for my friend", replied Tae with a small smile. He longed to audition, but he had lost all hope after being rejected by his dream agency a year ago.

"Well, I must ask you to audition!" said the woman. "You have strikingly handsome features, a great body, and judging by the humming I heard from you just a moment ago, your sound seems unique, and deep, and I can't seem to put my finger on it!"

Mortified, Tae declined politely, but the woman would have none of it. She dragged him to the receptionist's counter and added his name in the list of auditionees. He was caught so off guard that even when his turn came to audition, he didn't know what to sing. But seeing his friend there, and the expectant faces of the judges and scouts, he thought he would sing an original, a song he had wrote for his grandmother after she passed away... Winter Bear.

As he sang, his deep, velvety voice cut through the air, bringing tears to everyone in the room. He pictured his grandmother, teaching him to plant seeds as a little child, uprooting turnips with him in their farm, and cooking him Jaepchae and Udon when he was sad, just to cheer him up and see a smile on his face.

He remembered the past.

His fucking messed up past.

He felt the tears streaming down his face when he ended the song to a deafening applause by everyone in the room. Feeling shy all of a sudden, he walked back to his seat to watch the rest of the auditions.

Seeing a lot of talented rappers and singers, Tae felt intimidated as he thought he didn't have a chance. But then, he hadn't asked for this to happen to him.

Well, he would have to wait for the rest of the day to hear the results of the auditions.

Meanwhile, he would watch the auditions with Baekhyun. A lot of singers did well, some didn't, but he enjoyed listening to all of them. But a few performances caught his eye.

A cute redhead, no more than 19 had shyly clambered up onto the platform and introduced himself as Jeon Jungkook. He looked a little scared, so Tae smiled encouragingly at him. Jungkook shyly smiled back, and when instructed to, he began to sing. And oh my god if didn't he possess a set of pipes to rival K-Pop Idols! His vocal runs were smooth and when he ended the song, he got a standing ovation from some of the crowd who didn't seem jealous, but admiring. The boy ran, out of the room without talking to anybody. Tae followed him to see him crying near the water coolers.

"Jungkook-ssi, what's wrong? You did a great job", he said. "There's practically no one to rival your voice back in there!"

"But I messed it up! I fucking ruined the chorus and now no agency is gonna scout me!!" wept Jungkook. "But you! Your voice was so deep and beautiful! It made me cry."

"Aww come on! I promise you, you're gonna have agencies begging you to join them!" Tae replied, blushing slightly. "I'm Taehyung by the way."

"Come back inside and sit with me. Let's wait for the results."

On returning to the room, they realised that they had walked in during a dance performance.. A petite looking boy had just begun dancing. Tae was surprised. Wasn't this an audition for singers? But his surprise melted away as the boy stopped in his tracks and sang.

All while busting out passionate dance moves that he didn't even know could be done! Jungkook too looked amazed. The tiny, cute looking guy could sing AND dance! He definitely was one of the most talented auditionees.

But no sooner had he struck the last pose, and sung the final note, when the lithe figure slumped to the floor in a heap, exhausted. His loose white shirt fell back, revealing a painfully thin body.

The sight hit Tae as he realised the boy had starved for the performance..

The medics had taken him away to the sickroom nearby. Tae followed, with Jungkook right behind him. The boy was lying on the bed, eyes open with tears streaming down his face. "Are you okay?" asked Tae gently.

"You performed really well. But did you not eat anything?"

The boy's mouth moved to confirm the statement..

"Hmm.. I thought so as well," said Jungkook. "I must say though hyung, you are a talented performer. And your dance moves are on point. You're definitely gonna get there, and you shouldn't practise to the point of exhaustion.."

"I came all the way from Busan to Seoul for this audition. My life will be over if I don't get the spot." said the boy. "How could I not practise so hard!" he cried out, despairingly.

"Also, my body shape is unsatisfactory. how can i ever get a chance if I'm so heavy and fat?"

"FAT?", exclaimed Tae. "You're so thin and fragile, hyung."

"And you dance and sing so well! You'll get the spot." assured Jungkook.

"Really? Do you really think so?" asked the figure on the bed, hope shining in his big brown eyes..

"We should really get going, and you should get well soon and claim your spot in this agency!" "Hopefully, we shall meet soon." said Jungkook.

"Goodbye then!", the boys chorused and smiled at the boy whose tears had disappeared and whose face beheld a cute grin!

"Well, that boy was glad to hear that he did a good job!" grinned Tae. "But oh!! we didn't even ask him his name. But we might meet him in the future as a trainee, that is, if we get the spots as well."

No sooner had the words escaped his mouth, when there was an announcement played on the loudspeaker.

It was time.

The results had arrived.

Tae and Baekhyun let Jungkook sit with them as they waited for their futures to be changed.

The MC of the programme walked up to the platform. To his surprise, the lady scout who had made him audition walked right up with him as well. "What's she doing there?" he thought. Maybe she was a high ranking judge. Just his luck to have had run into her before..

The MC began calling names; Jackson Wang, Kim Jongdae, Lee Taemin, Kim Jongin, Park Jin Young and even Baekhyun was called to step forward as a potential trainee!

But the names Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook were never called..

The MC stepped off the stage. Tae felt his heart crumbling to dust. The 19 year old next to him was sobbing quietly.

They had lost all hope.

The Scout who had forced Tae to join stepped forward. She said that she had a special announcement. Introducing herself as Taeyeon a member of the scout team from The Seoul Institute of the Arts. She announced that there were three spots for a full scholarship to the university. With Arts, Dance and Music as the Majors.

Jungkook, still sobbing and unable to hear anymore, jumped up from his seat and began walking to the door.

Tae, not wanting to get his hopes up, joined him.

She began to call out the names.

"Park Jimin."

The crowd cheered and clapped. Tae felt like nails were piercing his heart. He wished he had never met that meddlesome woman who gave him false hope.

"Jeon Jungkook."

Paralysed in shock, Jungkook did a full 90 degree turn, his face radiant, tears flowing free. He had gotten in.

But Taehyung was not called.

How could they not? He was too good a performer to be ignored just like that. He turned to Tae who tried to hide his sadness by smiling and congratulating him.

He couldn't bring himself to walk away from the guy who had stood by him. He stayed rooted to the spot, one arm slung around his hyung.

"And last, but certainly not the least," smiled Taeyeon.

"I think we all know who earned this spot!"

"Kim Taehyung."
