~*~ Rude Awakening ~*~
Katie’s POV
Bang.
Bang.
Bang.
I rolled over opening my eyelids that were pretty much stuck together through tears. My pillow had a puddle of tears on it.
Bang.
Looking over to where the sound was coming from I was sure it was coming from outside of the window. I barely recognised the room I was given yesterday as I fell asleep within minutes due to complete exhaustion due to over crying.
Slinging my legs out of bed, my bare feet made contact with the icy flooring. I took a couple of steps until I reached the window. Without opening to window I looked down to my Father who was stood outside.
I was pretty sure I was dreaming, as the dark sky made my Father seem even more unreal. There was no way this could be real as he was dying last night. I had no idea what the time was but it was still dark but light was slightly showing through the darkness.
As he saw me he smiled gesturing for me to come downstairs.
I sighed slipping on some slippers that didn’t really look great but were comfy. Quietly I made my way downstairs hoping Damon wouldn’t hear. The house was huge so it was a bit of a mission to get to the front door but when I did I opened it quietly escaping from the house.
Outside my Dad was stood there with a smile on his face.
“What are you doing here? You said you weren’t going to complete the transition,” I said quietly as a tear fell down my cheek.
Rather than tears of sadness that I experienced too much last night, this time it was out of happiness of actually having my Dad here.
“I changed my mind. I couldn’t leave you in this world with vampires without protection,” He stated.
“Thank you, I guess,” I smiled.
“Come on we need to get to the school,” He said with no emotion in his voice.
“Wait, I’m still in my pyjamas, and it’s too early,” I frowned.
I didn’t want to walk to the school in my pyjamas at this time in the morning. Granted no one would be there as it’s Saturday but still I didn’t want to have to go there.
Also it completely confused me as to why he wanted to go to the school at this moment in time. It was early Saturday morning, so there was no real reason for him to want to go there.
“Why?”
He ignored my simple question and instead took my hand and dragged me towards the school. I kept asking him why we had to go there but he didn’t answer me and just carried on walking.
The walk was quicker than expected, not that I had any idea how to get to the school, so it was a presumption that the journey would be longer. When we arrived at the school, it was like he was auto-pilot as he didn’t hesitate at all and just led me straight through the school.
I could see the sun was beginning to rise through the window. Without stopping he walked me to a classroom door. I could see my Father’s name on the door, so I presumed this was his classroom he taught in, seen as he was a teacher.
He opened the door to show a rather shocking scene. Sat in one of the desks was a blonde girl who I recognised from last night. She had pencils rammed through her hands into the desk whilst a gag was in her mouth and she was crying.
“What’s going on?” I exclaimed going to run into the room to help her.
As I pulled the gag off of her, my Father swatted me away from the girl.
“Sit down,” He frowned.
I did as I was told. I was too scared at this moment to want to do anything wrong.
He pulled my hands to the side of the desk tying my wrists to the table legs. I tried to pull away from him but he was too strong.
“What are you doing Dad?” I questioned trying not to cry from fear.
“Showing you how to kill vampires, Caroline here is a vampire, and I know you won’t actually kill her so I will just show you how to do it. But we are waiting for our guest to arrive so I can get her to show you,” He smiled with an evil glint in his eye.
“Why are you doing this? You always taught me to kill vampires when they’ve done something wrong, what has Caroline done to deserve this?” I questioned thrashing against the restraints on my hands.
“She killed someone. And I’ve realised all vampires are like vermin to humans, and they all need to be killed,” He hissed pushing the pencils deeper into Caroline’s hands.
She groaned in pain as tears fell. I was crying also, mainly because he was scaring me and worrying me. This wasn’t the Father I remembered. He wasn’t the same, and I’m guessing his vampire side of him had changed him completely.
“Please stop Dad,” I exclaimed, “you’re scaring me.”
“Well vampires are scary creatures and that’s they all need to be killed,” he retorted.
I’d never feared my Father before, but I just had to keep reminding myself that this was a vampire manipulated version of my Father, and wasn’t my Dad.
Suddenly the door opened revealing one of the other girls from last night, but the one Damon dropped off with Jeremy.
“Elena thanks for joining us,” He smiled.
“What are you doing?” She exclaimed rushing towards us trying to pull a pencil from Caroline’s hand.
“You wanted to learn how to kill vampires, so why don’t you show my daughter how to kill one,” He smirked.
“I’m not killing Caroline,” She frowned.
“Then I’ll just kill her,” He smiled with the evil glint back in his eye.
Elena grabbed the stake my Father was holding out to her. She turned to stab my Father with the stake, but he caught her arms. She grabbed the beaker of what I presumed was vervain on Caroline’s desk hitting him in the head with it letting it shatter.
She then turned to Caroline pulling the pencils out quickly. Although I could tell Caroline was in severe pain, and that’d just weaken a vampire she ripped the ropes on my hands, before we all went to make a run for it. Caroline and I got out of the room but he stopped Elena.
We both went to go back to the classroom but someone grabbed us covering our mouths.
“It’s okay, it’s me. Go home, go straight inside. We’ll save Elena,” The man who had pulled us away from the classroom stated.
I didn’t recognise him, but I’m guessing that he knew Caroline. He had some similarities to someone I knew but that probably didn’t mean anything.
Caroline vamp sped away from everything probably going straight home.
My Dad appeared out of the classroom throwing Elena against a locker. Without even thinking I moved so I wasn’t in the same section of the hallway as them. I was looking slightly around the wall to see what was going on, but I didn’t want to see it as what I saw wasn’t good.
It all happened so fast. Damon and another man appeared in the hall and grabbed onto my Dad’s arms. He threw the man I didn’t know to the floor where he looked dead, before her threw Damon to the floor snapping his neck.
The man, who helped Caroline and me, had put his hand through my Father’s chest causing me to gasp. My Father then threw him to the floor, before pushing him against the locker.
The pair struggled and thought against one another until Elena shouted out for them to stop.
I couldn’t really hear their conversation, but I could only see what was happening. Elena began to use a knife to cut her throat. The lump appeared again in my throat. Why was she doing this?
The man pushed my Father off of him grabbing Elena and running.
As Damon and the other man began to wake up my Father began to frown even more before telling them something. The two men stood up un-easy before they made their way towards the hallway I was sat in. As they walked past me ignoring my presence I stood up following them.
“What’s wrong with him?” I exclaimed, “Becoming a vampire shouldn’t have turned him into this.”
Damon and the other man turned around.
“Katie what are you doing here? I was worried when I couldn’t find you this morning,” Damon stated but we all carried on walking.
“I was tricked by my Dad, who isn’t acting right. Tell me what’s going on. He hates vampires but he would have never done what he did before he was a vampire,” I frowned.
“I’ll explain later Katie. Just go home, this is going to be too dangerous for you,” He frowned in return.
It was hard to keep up with the pair, as I presumed they were both vampires and they could walk a lot faster than me, but I was also in my slippers and pyjamas.
“I’m not going anywhere Damon. I don’t have a home, so I’m going with you, and you can do nothing to stop me,” I smiled.
“Your Dad was turned into a vampire, as he has dangerous vampire hunter instincts due to a ring that helped him live after being killed by a supernatural creature. It made him go on murderous rampages and now his life is just one murderous rampage as a vampire,” The man I didn’t know explained, “I’m Stefan by the way, I’m Damon’s brother.”
“So you mean he is going to try to kill all vampires. Isn’t there anything that can be done? And I’m Katie, Alaric’s daughter, and Damon’s responsibility,” I responded.
“There’s nothing any of us can do Katie. Now we’re going to go somewhere that’ll be very dangerous. We are going to let you go, but you will sit in the car. You will not leave the car, and you will wait for us to come get you. Do you understand? As you said you’re my responsibility and as I can see you aren’t going to go home unless I take you there, but I don’t have time for that, so I need you to just stay in the car,” Damon frowned not wavering on this point.
“Okay, I promise I’ll stay in the car,” I smiled trying to look innocent with my fingers crossed behind me back.
Of course I’ll stay in the car- for a couple seconds longer than they are.
