Winter's Waltz
Double update? Double update.
"There's no way you have twelve older brothers." Andar insisted with a playful smile. He and Hanna sat on a balcony at the top of the castle, enjoying time together as a new couple.
"Well, I do," she replied. "Three of them pretended I was invisible. Literally. For two years!"
Andar put his hand on hers sympathetically. "That's horrible."
But she shrugged, excusing it with, "It's what brothers do. Especially when you're the only baby sister of the family."
He nodded, finding it easy to grin in agreement. "And sisters. Elsa and I were really close when we were little, but then, one day, she just..." His smile fell and he looked away. "...shut me out and...I never knew why."
Now it was Hanna's turn to put her hand on Andar's, whispering, "I would never shut you out."
His smile returned, along with a giddy, "Okay, can I just...say something crazy?"
She smiled affirmatively. "I love crazy."
Andar:
All my life has been a series of doors in my face
He slammed the door behind him shut.
Andar:
And then, suddenly, I bump into you
"I was thinking the same thing! 'Cause like..."
Hanna:
I've been searching my whole life to find my own place
She stood from the edge of the balcony and gestured out at Arendelle.
Hanna:
And maybe it's the party talking
Or the chocolate fondue
She squeezed his cheeks in between her hands, making him giggle and take her hands.
Hanna:
But with you...
Andar:
But with you...
Hanna:
I found my place
Andar:
I see your face
Andar, Hanna:
And it's nothing like I've ever known before
Love it an open door
They hopped to the other balcony and climbed up one of the towers, busting through the door.
Andar, Hanna:
Love is an open
They ran around, Andar realizing she lost Hanna looking around for her.
Hanna:
Door
From behind, Hanna put he hands on his shoulders. The prince turned to her and grabbed her by the waist, lifted her up, and spun her around.
Andar:
Door!
-
They slid through the hallway together, the one that Andar thought she would be alone in forever.
Andar, Hanna:
Love is an open door
Hanna:
With you
Andar:
With you
Hanna:
With you
Andar:
With you
A guard came by, looking through the door to see what all the noise was. When he saw it was the prince enjoying himself for once with a beautiful stranger, he left, pretending not to see anything.
Andar, Hanna:
Love is an open door...
Thinking they got away with it, Andar chuckled to Hanna, then pulled her onto a small roof on the castle, where they sat together, watching a shooting star fall across the sky.
Hanna:
I mean it's crazy
"What?"
Hanna:
We finish each other's -
Andar cut her off, squeezing her arm.
Andar:
Sandwiches!
He rushed off, Hanna in amazement at her finishing. "That's what I was gonna say!"
Andar danced across the bridge of Arendelle, Hanna struggling to keep up.
Andar:
I never met someone
Andar, Hanna:
Who thinks so much like me
They locked fingers, exclaiming, "Jinx!" With their other hand, "Jinx again!"
They moved with the clock in time as two more plastic people came out, dancing with them.
Andar, Hanna:
Our mental synchronization
Can't have but one explanation
-
Andar:
You
Hanna:
And I
Andar:
Were
Hanna:
Just
Andar, Hanna:
Meant to be
They took hands and waltzed across the roof where the lights rolled off of them. Their shadows danced with them on the ships' sails.
Hanna:
Say goodbye...
Andar:
Say goodbye
Andar, Hanna:
To the pain of the past
We don't have to feel it anymore
-
Andar, Hanna:
Love is an open door
Hanna searched for Andar in the stables, who peeked out of one of the stalls. She ran for him, but it shut. She opened it back up, but he appeared in another one, waving at her.
-
They ran up where the waterfall was, Andar ahead of Hanna, who followed him up with as much enthusiasm.
Andar, Hanna:
Love is an open
Hanna:
Door
Andar:
Door!
Andar, Hanna:
Life could be so much more
He spun her around and dipped her down.
Hanna:
With you
Andar:
With you
Hanna:
With you!
Andar:
With you!
Andar, Hanna:
Love is an open
They put their hands around the moon in a heart, Hanna with her hands arched on the bottom and Andar making the top where it dipped down on itself.
Andar:
Door
Hanna:
Door...
"Can I say something crazy?" Hanna asked as Andar chuckled. Dropping to a knee and taking his hand, she asked, "Will you marry me?"
He gasped, putting a hand to his mouth. "Can I say something even crazier? Yes!"
-
"Oops! Pardon." Andar pushed by the guests, dragging hands by the hand, who excitedly followed, laughing to himself. Passing by a heavyset couple, he tried to squeeze by in between them, requesting, "Can we just get around you there? Thank you." Getting past, he saw his sister, chatting with two other people. "Oh, there she is! Elsa!" he called, rushing over as the guests bowed to him. Seeing the prince, they left. He slowed. "I mean... Queen." He bowed, not sure what the protocol would be. "Me again." Awkwardly, she took Hanna's hand and pulled her over. "May I present...Princess Hanna off the Southern Isles."
"Your Majesty," she said politely and curtsied.
Elsa only gave a small nod of acknowledgement, her hands folded in front of her.
"We would like -" they began together, then laughed, taking each other's hands.
"Your blessing..." Hanna continued to Elsa.
"Of..."
"Our marriage!" they finished together, Hanna's head on Andar's shoulder and her hand on his other. Andar's head touched hers, one of his arms wrapped around her waist.
Elsa blinked, taken aback. "Marriage?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes!" her brother squealed excitedly, expecting her to be over the moon for him.
Her eyes darted for a brief moment before she said, "I'm sorry, I'm confused."
"Well, he haven't worked out all the details ourselves. We'll need a few days to plan the ceremony. Of course, we'll have soup, roast, and ice cream and then -" He grabbed her shoulders, giving her his big eyes. "Wait. Would we live here?"
"Here?" the queen asked, hating the idea more by the moment. Her little brother could not marry just anybody. Not to mention the panic attack she could feel settling in.
Hanna took her hands, agreeing, "Absolutely!"
"Andar -" she tried to coax gently, but he continued.
"Oh, we can invite all twelve of your brothers to stay with us!"
She waved her hands desperately to get him to stop. "What? No. No no no no."
"Of course we have the room. I don't know. Some of them must -"
"Wait. Slow down," she said a little louder, finally getting him to stop and pay attention to her. "No one's brothers are staying here, no one's getting married."
His countenance fell while Hanna looked more annoyed than disappointed. "Wait, what?"
Fidgeting with the fingers on his gloves, he asked, "May I talk to you, please?" He glanced at Hanna, then added, "Alone?"
He shook his head, taking his fiancée's arm. "No. Whatever you have to say, you...you can say to both of us."
Enough was enough. Her eyes lidded, she dropped trying to be polite in front of their guest. "Fine. You can't marry a girl you just met."
"You can if it's true love," he argued back, squeezing Hanna's arm tighter.
"Andar, what do you know about true love?" Elsa asked patiently. To her knowledge, her brother had never claimed to be in love with anyone before.
"More then you. All you know is how to shut people out!"
Elsa's face betrayed her, giving away a very obvious hurt look. However, she attempted to keep control over the conversation. "You asked for my blessing, but my answer is no. Now...excuse me."
He tried to walk away, but Hanna reached out, offering, "Your Majesty, if I may ease your -"
She felt himself pull away from Hanna before she could touch her, answering, "No, you may not. And I...I think you should go." Walking out, she announced to one of the guards, "The party is over. Close the gates."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"What?! Elsa, no. No, wait!" Andar pulled away from Hanna and reached out for her hand, only grabbing the fabric, the glove sliding right off.
Feeling it leave her hand, Elsa turned back in a panic, gasping, demanding, "Give me my glove!" She grabbed for it, but he pulled it out of her reach, knowing it would keep her attention.
"Elsa, please, I can't live like this anymore!" he cried to her as tears filled his eyes.
Elsa could only stare back, watching as her little brother begged her so desperately for the gates to stay open. The rest of the crowd was now watched in curiosity.
She clutched her bare hand to his chest, managing to choke out, "Then leave."
Andar said nothing as the siblings could only look desperately at each other before the sister turned away again, forcing herself to not let a sob escape her.
"What did I ever do to you?!" Andar demanded, the glove still hanging from his hand.
"Enough, Andar."
"No, why? Why do you shut me out? Why do you shut the whole world out? What are you so AFRAID OF?!"
"I said ENOUGH!"
With her hand still uncovered, a shot of ice ripped through it and caused spikes to appear. Startled, the crowd backed away, Hanna pulling Andar away protectively. She looked at him in curiosity and a bit of fear.
"Soucery," the duke mumbled, taking one of his guards' arms. "I knew there was something dubious going on here."
But Andar was just confused. There was nothing to be scared of, it was only Elsa. But...
"Elsa...?"
She shook her head and reached for the doorknob, pulling it open behind her and sprinting into the hall.
By the time she got outside, though, a large crowd had gathered to applaud him.
"There she is!"
"The queen!"
"It is her!"
After her moment of hesitation, she looked back, where he heard the ballroom crowd rushing out after her. She rushed down the steps and pushed through the crowd, who was still praising her greatly.
She stopped, blocked by a man, who bowed for him. "Queen Elsa."
She pushed past, just wanting to get away.
The only one to show concern was a mother who held her baby. "Your Majesty," she began, trying to whisper, but still be loud enough to be heard over the cheers. "Are you alright?"
"No..." She shook his head lightly and backed up into the fountain. The moment her hand touched it, it froze, the geyser becoming solid ice. She jumped away from it, listening to the crowd gasp in surprise.
By this point, the duke had come out. He pointed at her, shouting into the summer stillness, "There she is! Stop her!"
"Please, just...stay away from me. Stay away!" She held up his hands to show she was not intentionally hurting anybody, only for her powers to betray her and shoot out a blast of ice that knocked the duke and his guards down. This time, the gasp made by the crowd was one of fear.
"Monster! Monster!" the duke declared after sitting up.
She looked around desperately for a way out, only to see the mother pull back her baby and a father his little girl and boy.
"Elsa!" she heard her brother call for her. She turned again and ran, Andar at the door, watching him run.
"Elsa!" he tried again, reaching out for her. He ran out to stop her, Hanna just behind him.
Elsa ran out the stairs in the back, only to be met by the vast body of water. She backed away to the edge, still hearing Andar call out his name. As she backed, she saw the ice below her feet begin to freeze over.
"Wait, please!" Andar called. She saw him at the top, rushing down. "Elsworth, stop!"
She looked back and took a careful step onto the ice, now fully solidified. Looking up and away from it, she began to run overtop the sea, icing it as she went.
Andar ran down, slipping over the ice.
"Andar!" Hanna reached to help her up while he watched as his sister ran across. Soon enough, the entire sea was ice and snow burst from the sky.
"No..."
The townspeople, looked up at the sky, watching it snow in the middle of July.
"Snow!"
"Snow?"
"Yes, snow."
"Are you alright?" Hanna asked, helping Andar back up the hill. He had his arms around himself, looking around, not sure what to make if any of it.
"No," he responded, too quickly.
Next, she asked, "Did you know?"
He thought back for a minute. Did he...?
"...no."
The duke, meanwhile, was having us another crisis. "Look. It's snowing. It's snowing! The queen has cursed this land!" He grabbed one of his guards, demanding pathetically, "You have to go after him."
"Wait, no."
Andar rushed to him, the duke jumping behind his guard once he saw him, crying out, "You! Is there sorcery in you, too? Are you a monster, too?"
Surprised by this, he responded with, "No. No, I'm completely ordinary."
Hanna stepped up and put a hand on his bicep. "That's right, he is." Realizing how that sounded when her fiancé looked at her funny, she smiled sheepishly and added, "In the best way."
He smiled back at her, then declared to the duke, "And my sister's not a monster."
"She nearly killed me!" he insisted.
Patiently, Hanna said quietly, "You slipped on ice."
"Her ice!"
"It was an accident! She was scared. She didn't mean it. She didn't mean for any of this," Andar said, stepping out to the duke. "Tonight was my fault," he continued, looking down, ashamed. "I'm the one that pushed her, so...I'm the one that needs to go after her."
"What?" Hanna demanded.
But the duke only nodded. "Yes."
"Bring me my horse. Please," he requested, making his way to Kjekk.
Hanna grabbed him by the shoulder. "Andar, no, it's too dangerous."
He put his hand on top of hers, smiling sadly back. "Elsa's not dangerous. I'll bring her back and I'll make this right."
"I'm coming with you," she insisted as Kai brought Kjekk over.
"No, I need you here to take care of Arendelle."
Hanna gently took his hand. "On my honor."
He smiled back at her and went to give her a kiss goodbye, but Hanna had already pulled away. Letting it go, [🤠] he then got into the cloak that Kai held out for him. He helped him onto the horse, then Andar announced to the town, "I leave Princess Hanna in charge."
She put one of her hands on the horse, concerned, looking up at her fiancé. "Are you sure you can trust him? I don't want you getting hurt."
Confidently, he replied, "She's my sister. She would never hurt me."
With a snap of the reigns, Kjekk took him out of the gates and into the blizzard.
