For the First Time in Forever

Three years later...

The day of Elsa's coronation had arrived, allowing for the gates of Arendelle to be open. A dock master greeted those who came off the ship with a warm, "Welcome to Arendelle!"

"Ah, merci, Monsieur," the French Dignitary responded as he stepped onto the dock.

"Watch your step, please. The gates will be opening soon."

Off to the side, a woman attempted to put a jacket on a squirming, whining boy. "Why do I have to wear this?" he complained with a pout.

"Because the queen has come of age! It's Coronation Day!" she responded excitedly.

"That's not my fault."

Kristoff, now grown, hung a carrot around the now-large reindeer. "Whaddya want, Sven?"

"Gimme a snack," he responded for the reindeer in a lower voice.

"What's the magic word?"

"Please?"

He gave him the carrot, shaking his head when Sven took the whole carrot. "Ah ah ah ah. Share."

He spat out half of it, the man taking a bite out of the spit covered half. He took out another carrot and gave it to Y/n, who ate it as she sat on the vendor's stand.

A couple excitedly walked by the blond, the husband chattering away. "I can't believe they're finally opening up the gates!"

"And for a whole day, too! Faster, Persi!" She dragged him along, Persi almost tripping over his feet, revealing an old man with glasses and a glorious mustache behind them.

"Ah, Arendelle. Our most mysterious trade partner. Open those gates so I may unlock your secrets and exploit your riches." Realizing he was being a bit too loud, he looked around nervously. "Did I say that out loud?"

Ahead were two more dignitaries, one Irish and one Spanish, discussing the coronation.

"Oh, me sore eyes can't wait to see the queen and prince. I bet they're absolutely lovely."

"I bet they are wonderful."

-

Andar let out another loud snore, his hair disheveled and stuck to the drool coming out of his opened mouth.

"Prince Andar?"

He sat up, eyes still half closed, his hair frizzed everywhere, when he heard his butler knock to wake him. He let out a cough. "Yeah...?" He removed the piece of hair from his mouth, wiping it.

"Sorry to wake you, sir, but..."

"No, no, you didn't wake me..." He yawned loudly, speaking through it. "I've been up for hours..." Beginning to nod off again, she jerked herself up. "Who is it?"

"...It's still me, sir. The gates will open soon. Time to get ready."

"Of course..." He stretched, his eyes still closed. "Ready for what?"

"Your sister's coronation, sir."

"My sister's...cornoration..." His eyes slowly opened, landing on the suit Gerda had picked out the night before. Eyes flying wide now, she whispered, "It's coronation day."

-

In under a minute, the prince came flying out the door in his suit - black top and green pants that complimented her fiery hair - spinning her around. "It's coronation day!" she repeated excitedly, sliding down the bannister just in time to see the curtains open.

-

In under a minute, the prince came flying out the door in his green suit that complimented his fiery hair, spinning Gerda, who was carrying trays, around taking her by surprise. "It's coronation day!" he repeated excitedly, sliding down the bannister just in time to see the curtains open.

Andar:
The window is open, so's that door!
I didn't know they did that anymore
Who knew we owned eight thousand salad plates?

He took one of the plates from a stack one of the servants was carrying, then placed it on a different stack before skipping across the ballroom.

Andar:
For years, we've roamed these empty halls
Why have a ballroom with no balls?
Finally they're opening up the gates!

There'll be actual real-live people
It'll be totally strange

He tried to awkwardly shake hands with a suit of armor. The arm fell off, Andar trying to shove it back in.

-

He threw the window open, smiling brightly out into the morning.

Andar:
But wow! Am I so ready for this change!

He jumped onto a swing hanging from the window, pulling himself up.

Andar:
'Cause for the first time in forever,
There'll be music, there'll be light
For the first time in forever,
We'll be dancing through the night

He swung himself on the swing, the sun rising over Arendelle.

-

Andar:
Don't know if I'm elated or gassy
But I'm somewhere in that zone

He bent over the pond he had been exploring together, a duckling waddling into his hand.

Andar:
'Cause for the first time in forever...
I won't be alone

"I can't wait to meet everyone!" Andar squealed to the duck for some reason. He let out a gasp, his eyes wide with realization, whispering, "What if I meet...the one?"

"HONK!" the duck cried.

-

Andar danced into the curtain, wrapping it around himself.

Andar:
Tonight, imagine me robbed and all
Fetchingly draped against the wall
The pictures of sophisticated grace

He took the rope of the curtain and tried to spin it, whacking himself in the head. "Oof!"

He took out his fan and sauntered to a decorative head statue on the table. He waved the fan in front of his face, covering his lower half.

Andar:
I suddenly see her standing there
A beautiful stranger, tall and fair
I wanna stuff some chocolate in my face

Reaching to the table next to him, he grabbed the chocolate on a plate and began to shove it in his mouth, swallowing it with a gulp, then threw his fan.

Andar:
But then we'll laugh and talk all evening
Which is totally bizarre

He picked up the head, swinging it around.

Andar:
Nothing like the life we dreamt so far!

It slipped from his hands, crashing into the cake. He groaned slightly, but ran off before he could be caught, into the art room to imitate the pictures.

Andar:
For the first time in forever,
There'll be magic, there'll be fun
For the first time in forever,
I could be noticed by someone

He bent down and pretended to take the lady in a painting's hand, imitating the man who was about to kiss it before continuing to copy more pictures.

Andar:
And I know it is totally crazy
To dream I'd find romance
But for the first time in forever...

He stopped on the couch, smiling to himself.

Andar:
At least I've got a chance

-

Elsa looked out over the kingdom from her window. Inhaling, she closed her eyes, then opened them, dreading the day ahead.

Elsa:
Don't let them in...
Don't let them see...
Be the good girl you always have to be...

She moved away from the window to a portrait of King Agnarr. Removing her gloves, not taking her eyes off, she picked up the royal ball and scepter.

Elsa:
Conceal...
Don't feel...

She turned with them, trying to replicate her father's pose, but looking much more nervous than he.

Elsa:
Put on a show
Make one wrong move and everyone will know

The ball and scepter began to ice over. Panicking, she put them back down, looking at her hands in fear.

Elsa:
But it's only for today...

-

Andar:
It's only for today!

-

She put her gloves back on, pulling them over her wrists.

Elsa:
It's agony to wait...

-

Andar:
It's agony to wait!

-

Elsa flung the door open to her servants.

Elsa:
Tell the guards to open up...
The gates!

They obeyed, not questioning why the princess was singing her orders to them.

-

The gates began to open, the town more visible from the front of the castle.

Andar:
The gates!

Be ran out, passing by his cousin and her husband. He waved, then continued running into town.

Andar:
For the first time in forever,

-

She repeated her mantra as she walked towards the giant window.

Elsa:
Don't let them in
Don't let them see...

-

Andar:
I'm getting what we're dreaming of!

He ducked under a giant cake, skipping throughout town.

-

Elsa:
Be the good girl you always have to be

She opened it up to look into town, seeing Andar as he jumped on top of a wall, clinging onto a pole.

-

Andar:
A chance to change my lonely world

-

Elsa:
Conceal

-

Andar:
A chance to find true love!

-

Elsa:
Conceal, don't feel, find let them know

-

Andar:
I know it all ends tomorrow
So it has to be today!
'Cause for the first time in forever...
For the first time in forever...

He spun around everyone, trying not to hit them, then skipped down the path.

Andar:
Nothing's in my way!

"Whoa!" he cried, zipping past after being knocked into by a horse. He fell into the boat, waving his hands around to try to keep balance, despite the boat about to fall. The horse stomped into it, saving him from tipping over. Andar bounced up, a piece of seaweed falling onto his forehead.

"Hey!" he yelled at the stranger, removing the seaweed.

A beautiful woman halted her horse, concern in her face as she worriedly looked down upon him. "I'm so sorry, a - are you hurt?!"

[My OCD tells me to put a dress reference so...]

Still sitting with his legs sprawled out, he awkwardly chuckled. "Hey...heh...I - no, no, no, I'm okay."

"Are you sure?" She jumped down, getting into the boat to help him up.

"Yeah, I just wasn't watching where I was going. But I'm great, actually."

She reached down, smiling down at her with a warm, feminine smile. Her hand was gloved in a pure white that went up her arm, reminding him of his sister. "Well, thank goodness."

Andar took it, looking back up at him, getting lost in her eyes. She seemed to notice the silence between them and cleared her throat. "Princess Hanna of the Southern Isles." She curtsied to him after helping him to his feet.

"Prince Andar of Arendelle," he responded, bowing to her.

"Prince?!" she asked, surprised. "My Lord!" She dropped to her knee. Andar tried to stop him as the boat began to tip again as the horse bowed to her, as well, and Hanna fell into him.

"Hi...again."

He stomped on the boat, flinging Andar into Hanna.

"Oh, boy..." she chuckled while Andar got up.

"This is awkward," the prince stated, getting off of the princess and helping her up. She corrected herself with, "Not you're awkward! But just 'cause we're...I'm awkward. You're gorgeous. Wait, what?" He groaned to himself, looking behind him. "I'm...sorry, I should go. I mean, you're a beautiful princess and I'm just me - you know, not the heir, the spare - so..."

"Wait, don't go." Hanna grabbed his hand softly, pulling him back to her. "You don't have to be embarrassed, Prince Oh, It's Just Me."

Hanna:
'Cause I am someone even more embarrassing to be

Andar looked at her suspiciously, unable to believe that to be such a beauty was an embarrassment.

Hanna:
I'm only the thirteenth child of a king
In a very small kingdom...
On a very small island...to the South

She giggled sheepishly, batting her eyes slightly at the prince, who blushed.

Hanna:
And nobody sings about this humble face
Or my lack of grace
Or quotes what comes out of my mouth

"Thank goodness," she added with another laugh. Andar, finally having loosened up slightly, returned the laugh, putting his hand on her shoulder.

Hanna:
I've journeyed a long way to see your sister crowned
To honor and to back you
Yet here I go to smack you to the ground...

Please accept the humblest of apologies
From a clumsy princess who's only come to serve and please
With a line of mean, big brothers that goes on for miles

A girl you won't see receiving hosannah
Just Hanna of the Southern Isles

Andar shook his head, insisting, "Nothing was your fault, honestly. And I don't think you're a klutz, you're..."

But he was stopped by the sound of church bells, his countenance dropping and shoulders stiffened back. "The coronation. I - I - I better go. I have to go. I better go," he excused awkwardly, backing away from Hanna. "Uh, bye!" He waved, then was off. Hanna waved back, still in the boat. The horse lifted up a hoof to wave, the boat beginning to tip.

"Oh, no."

Hanna fell into the water, the boat on top of her. She lifted it to resurface, smiling softly after Andar...

-

Running to the castle, he ducked out of the way of the people that were in the streets. He paused in the middle, surveying the area to look for a good opening to bolt through, until he saw a little boy by the side that he recognized, crying loudly. Immediately, he went over to him, asking softly, "Hey, hey, what's wrong?"

"Norm's missing!" he replied, voice thick from tears and gravely from screaming.

"Norm?" he asked gently.

"My pig!" he screeched, going back into fits of sobbing.

Andar bent next to him and put his arm around him, keeping his voice positive. "Well, want me to help you find him?"

"No!" His head turned to the prince, face streaked with tears. "I want Princess Elsa to help me find him!" [Every little girl when this movie came out:]

His smile dropped, used to this kind of behavior by the everyone in the castle. He knew that they loved him, but everyone had fawned over Elsa: poised, graceful, elegant. He loved his sister, as far as she always seemed to be, but it really annoyed him that he was seen as less than her for being a klutz. [Read: ADHD King 💅]

But instead of yelling at him, he instead said, "Listen, my sister doesn't usually like socializing, but I would love it if I could finally talk to a - PIG!"

In one of the apple carts, a pig kept stuffing his face full of the fruit.

"HALT, YOU SWINE!"

The pig looked back at the prince, an apple still in his mouth and jumped out, kicking the cart slightly so that it rolled and Andar knocked into it, sending all the apples sprawling to the ground, bruising badly. The vendor watched with his mouth open.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" the prince called behind him, still running. "I'll replace the appl - oh! Ugh!" He went sliding across a table filled with pies, knocking them all off with his feet in an attempt not to get his suit dirty. When he fell on the ground, he looked back at the couple who were watching him in shock, apologizing, "I'm sorry, I'll help you make more."

"No!" they cried a little too desperately.

A pair of long wooden poles took him away, Andar grabbing onto them tightly. He looked up and saw a man in a jester's hat. "Excuse me, good sir?" he called up, the man looking down as he climbed the pole. "Good sir, please..."

He gasped at the sight of a teenage boy climbing up his pole, who then looked out, pointed, and shouted, "FOLLOW THAT PIG!"

The townspeople screamed as the long legs stepped toward the pig, only one watching: Y/n, by the stands, looking unimpressed.

Jumping out in front, she chased after it, as well, the man having to stop before stepping on her, wobblong and throwing the prince into a stand full of jarred goods. "There he is!" he called after her. "Don't let him get away! Stay in him!"

Norm ran through a hole in the stoned wall, which she jumped on top of and pulled herself over. Andar ran around it, still screaming at her to get the pig. Y/n, still running, jumped on him, holding his head down. Rearranging them, she took the apple that had fallen on the ground and handed it to the pig, who ate it calmly, then plopped down. The people who had managed to come out of hiding cheered as the boy ran over and hugged his pig.

Y/n got up and brushed off her clothes, then glanced at Andar, who was panting by the time he reached her. "Are you okay?" he asked quickly, nearly tripping into her. "I - I mean wow! I mean hi. I mean...ahem, um...Prince Andar of Arendelle." He bowed, all the while the girl watched him, her eyes glazed over. "Whoo, just let me catch my breath!" He sat at a wagon next to him, filled with ice blocks.

Finally, she said, eyeing the wagon, "Y/n L/n of, uh, no place in particular." Looking under him, she added, "You know what's great? Ice. Clean ice." Leaning forward, she demanded harshly, "So get off my ice."

"Oh! Sorry!" He jumped off, still talking as grabbed the wagon and left. "Sorry, sorry..."

He watched her go, smile dropping as soon as she vanished.

-

The choir sung as Elsa stood by the bishop, Andar next to him. Seeing Hanna behind him in the pews, he waved at her. She shyly returned it, giving him a small, "Hi."

The bishop took a crown and, after the queen bowed, he placed it on her head.

After the choir had finished singing, Elsa reached out for the orb and scepter. To stop him, the bishop cleared his throat and whispered, "Your Majesty. The gloves."

She looked at the blue gloves she had on. Her childhood ones had been swapped out as her hands grew bigger for short blue ones. She tugged at the finger and removed one, then the other, placing them down on the tray. Hands shaking, she picked up the objects and turned to the audience, who all rose. She bit her lip nervously, trying not to let her hands tremble.

"Sem hon heldr inum helgum eignum ok krýnd í þessum helga..."

Elsa anxiously looked down at her hands. Frost had begun to cover the orb and scepter. Nobody noticed, so she looked back up, panic in her eyes.

"...stað ek fram fyrir yðr: Queen Elsa of Arendelle."

She turned back and almost threw the items back on the cushion. She took her gloves and shoved them back on as the crowd repeated, "Queen Elsa of Arendelle." This made her look back at them with a small bittersweet smile, knowing that they deserved a better queen.

-

The party was held at the castle after the coronation. The music stopped to allow the head servant, Kai, to introduce the siblings. Everyone who had been dancing paused and watched the front of the room.

"Queen Elsa of Arendelle."

She elegantly walked up, her cape dragging behind her, and stood with her hands on front of her, folded neatly. Gently, she smiled at her people, who clapped for him.

"Prince Andar of Arendelle."

Andar ran in, waving at everyone, standing off away from Elsa. Kai took him by the shoulders and put him up by the throne.

"Oh, here?" he asked. "Are you sure? 'Cause I don't think I'm supposed to -"

He plopped him next to his sister.

"Okay." He glanced at her, then took a step away. The audience gave an applause, then went back to their party.

Andar ran his hand through his hair, keeping his gaze on the floor and away from his distant sister. Elsa looked over at him and said with the same smile, "Hi."

Surprised, Andar looked back. "Hi - hi me?" He put his hand on his chest confusedly. She nodded in a silent response. "Um, hi."

After another moment, she softly looked him up and down and said, "You look wonderful."

"Thank you! You look wonderfuller," Andar said before backtracking. "I mean, not fuller - you don't look fuller - but...more...wonderful," he corrected.

With a chuckle, she responded with, "Thank you. So." She looked at everyone chattering away. "This is what a party looks like."

"It's warmer than I thought," Andar said, laughing awkwardly.

"And what is that amazing smell?"

Both siblings inhaled deeply, turning to each other with their eyes closed. "Chocolate!" they both said, giggling when they saw their noses were almost touching.

Elsa turned away, Andar still looking at her. He opened her mouth to speak up before being interrupted by Kai, introducing another nobility. "Your Majesty. The Duke of Weaseltown."

"Weaselton!" the duke snapped back. He softened at the queen. "The Duke of Weselton, Your Majesty. As your closest partner in trade, it seems only fitting that I offer you your first dance as queen." He hopped around and spun, then bowed, holding out his gloved hand, the top of his toupé coming off.

After choking on laughter, Elsa cleared her throat as the duke stood, his hair back in place. "Thank you. Only I don't dance."

"Oh," he said, a little disappointed.

"But my brother does."

"What?"

"Oh-ho. Lucky you."

"Oh, I don't think -"

He took his hand and pulled him out into the ballroom, right in the middle, despite his protests. "If you swoon, let me know. I'll catch you!"

Elsa waved, only half apologetic when she whispered, "Sorry."

"Like an agile peacock!" the duke exclaimed, hopping right onto Andar's feet with his heeled shoes.

"Speaking of, so great to have the gates open again. Why did they shut them in the first place?" He suspiciously eyed him, getting all up in his face. "Do you know the reason? Hmmm?"

"No..." he responded honestly, glancing away in embarrassment.

His hands trailed on his in suspicion before lacing their fingers together. "No...alright. Hang on!" He dipped him so far down, his head snapped all the way back so that he could see Elsa snickering at him. He scrunched his face back up at her, making her laugh harder. "They don't call me the Little Dipper for nothing!" Picking him back up, he jumped around with arm-wings. "Like a chicken with the face of a monkey: I fly."

As the song ended, Andar hurried away from the duke, who called after her, "Let me know when you're ready for another round, My Lord!"

As he returned to Elsa, she chuckled, "Well, he was sprightly."

"Especially for a man in heels," he responded, rubbing his feet.

"Are you okay?"

He put his foot down, grinning. "The, I've never been better! This is so nice. I wish it could be like this all the time."

"Me, too," Elsa replied. Her smile dropped as she looked away from him and said quietly, "But it can't."

"Well, why not? If we -"

She turned away from her, tensing up in defense. "It just! ...can't." Her arms came up with her palms facing outward, then gently dropped back to her sides.

"Oh..." He blinked a few times, his eyes moist. "Excuse me for a minute." She hurried away from him, Elsa still with her back to him.

-

Sniffling, Andar avoided bumping into a few people. One rude guy, however, did not get the message to not come near him and knocked him over.

Someone caught his hand and turned to face e/c eyes that looked back into his momentarily.

"Well. If it isn't Dirty Ice."

"Y/n?"

She now stood in a new outfit that was not messed up and smelling like pig.

F/c

OR

The waltz began. She looked around awkwardly for a moment until Andar took her other hand and waited for her to meet his gaze. "Would you care to dance?" he asked. "You know, as an apology for...for the ice."

She looked back at him and answered flatly, "I don't dance."

"Oh..."

"But for the prince, I'll make an exception." She grabbed onto his hand, downed the rest of the drink she was holding, threw it behind her, and began the waltz with him.

After a few minutes of the most awkwardness of silences - at least for Andar - his partner asked, "So why were you crying?"

"What? No, I wasn't -"

"No offense, Your Highness, but your eyes are as red as your hair."

"Oh, I'm just..." He took a moment to think. "I'm just allergic to the dust everyone is kicking up."

She raised a brow, asking dryly, "Don't you people clean before you invite the entire kingdom over? Did your mother teach you nothing?"

"No, no, it isn't that. It's just...we don't...often have people over..." He looked towards the band that was still playing, Y/n picking up on his shift in mood.

"I see."

Despite her ready to drop the subject, Andar continued. "My sister just...doesn't like people over, I guess..."

"Mmm."

She was grateful when she felt a tap on her shoulder and turned to see a tall woman with her dark hair tied up in a bun. "Mind if I cut in?" she asked.

Andar shifted into a grin when he saw her. "Hanna!"

Her dress now was tinted yellow instead of blue and her braid wrapped around her head in a bun. She held a small glass of champagne, which she placed on a tray as a servant walked by.

"Oh." Y/n let go of him and backed away. "No, no, please, go right ahead, my lady. My Highness." She bowed to Andar and left them to waltz across the floor.

Up to the blond boy she went, who was still in suspenders. He glanced at her, his hair covering part of his eyes. "Had enough, princess?" he teased.

"Yep. You were right, this sucked. C'mon, I'll buy you a snow cone."

She took the arm he offered her and left, Prince Andar no longer in her mind.
