A Lullaby

Elsa's heels tapped against the icy floor. Her arms were wrapped around herself as she sighed. Instead of the blue aura around the palace, it had turned red with fear. "Get it together..." she whispered to herself. "Control it. Don't feel don't feel don't feel..." She put her hands on her head as more icicles came out of the wall. "Don't feel!"

She whimpered when the floor cracked and looked around at all the sharp spikes coming out of the wall, shrinking in on herself.

-

"Look, Sven. The sky's awake..." Olaf sighed, patting the reindeer to get his attention. Sven looked up at the aurora borealis and grinned, making happy reindeer noises.

"Are you cold?" Y/n asked, noticing Andar shiver.

He let his arms down, trying not to make her worry. "A little."

She began to reach out to put her arms around him, but stopped when she remembered he was engaged.

"Oh, here," she said instead, leading him to a steam geyser.

"Ooh..." He put his hands out to warm them. Kristoff looked back, smiling at first, then frowning when he saw her shake his head at him.

"So, uh, about our friends..." Kristoff began, trying to change the subject from the one he was initially going to talk about. "Well, I...say friends, they're more like family. Anyway, when we were kids, it was just us and Sven until they, you know, kinda took us in."

"They did?" Andar asked, able to sympathize with the feeling of being alone.

"Yeah..." Y/n confirmed, trailing off. Seeing his sad look, she added quickly, "But it was fine! Y'know, because...we always had each other and then...y'know, then we had them."

"Hm." He smiled at her, reaching to give her arm a squeeze. She looked down at his hand on her, then moved away, forcefully coughing.

"But...you know, like all families, they can be a little...inappropriate. And loud."

"Very loud." Kristoff agreed. "They're also...stubborn, at times, and overbearing...and heavy."

"Really...really heavy. But they mean well it's not like they're out to embarrass us or make you uncomfortable -"

"Y/n." Andar put his hand on her shoulder, quickly getting his attention. But she let him stay this time, not wanting the touch to end. "They sound wonderful."

"Okay..." she whispered and took in a deep breath, nodding to Kristoff.

"Meet our family." He held his arms out to a field of huge boulders, then began to walk around, talking to them as if they were real people. "Hey, guys!"

Olaf jumped down, slowly approaching Andar as Y/n followed Kristoff, acting like this was totally normal. Sven, once freed, jumped over to them excitedly.

"They're..." Andar began, swallowing nervously. "...rocks."

Olaf leaned over a little and whispered, "They're cr-ay-zay..."

"Rocko's looking sharp, as usual. Clay - whoa! I didn't even recognize you, you lost so much weight!"

"I'll distract them...while you run." Olaf waved at them, drawing nearer. "Hi, Sven's family! It's nice to meet you." He pat the top of one of the mossy boulders while the prince only continued to look on, confused and mildly afraid. Not to mention concerned for Kristoff's mental state.

"Andar, because I love you, I insist you run." He got in closer to hug the boulder. "I understand you're love experts? Ooh! WHY AREN'T YOU RUNNING???"

"Uh, okay, well..." Andar began to break away, ready to run. "I'm gonna go..."

Y/n ran after him, begging, "No no no! Andar, hang on, wait!"

The ground shook before he could go any farther, rocks rolling just under their feet.

"Y/n?!" Andar dodged them, nearly falling over while they so rUdElY tried to trip him. "Kristoff?!"

But the two were bent over, beckoning them to come closer with a smile.

The boulders popped out, blinking up at Kristoff and Y/n.

"Our babies are home!" Bulda exclaimed.

"Kristoff! Y/n!"

"They're here!"

"Kristoff and Y/n home!" Olaf repeated happily with his hands up in the air, but stopped in confusion. "Wait...Kristoff?" he asked one of the trolls, to which he nodded.

Kristoff bent down to one of the women, who took his face into her hands. "Lemme look at you."

Another woman came over, tugging at Y/n's pants to pull them off. "Take your clothes off. I'll wash 'em."

"Ah!" She pulled them back on, embarrassed that Andar had almost seen her without her pants. "No, thanks, I'm gonna keep my clothes on."

"Look, it's great to see you all, but where's Grand Pabbie?" Kristoff asked.

"He's napping," a little boy behind him said. "But look! I grew a mushroom!" He turned around to show the single mushroom on his back.

"I earned my fire crystal!" another boy said, showing off his fire magic.

Another kid tried to interject, annoyed when a grown troll said monotonously, "I passed a kidney stone."

"Y/n, pick me up!" the last child exclaimed, running and jumping into her arms.

"You're getting heavy, my dude!" she said, swinging him around. Another child barrel-rolled and jumped onto Kristoff's shoulder.

"Trolls...they're trolls!" Andar said excitedly.

The trolls all now turned to him in stunned silence and blinked until Bulda joyously called out, "Y/n's brought a boy!"

"A boy!"

"Is that a real boy?!"

"He's so cute!"

They hoisted him up into their own mini crowd-wave and pulled him over to Y/n, each wanting to clamor over him.

"What's going on?" Andar asked, looking around at the trolls.

Kristoff, outside of the circle, was forcing himself not to fall on the ground laughing. "We've learned to just roll with it," he finally managed to get out. Y/n, on the other hand, was too embarrassed to answer.

"Let me see you." Bulda jumped onto her husband's hands and forced Andar down by the shoulders and looked into his eyes, pinched how nose upward, then opened his lips to reveal all of his teeth. "Bright eyes, working nose, strong teeth - yes, yes! He'll do nicely for our Y/n."

Y/n hid in her hands, trying to hide her face from embarrassment - at least, that was what she was telling herself - while Andar stuttered out, "Wait wait wait. Um, no."

Coming out, Y/n agreed, "You've got the wrong idea. No. That's not why he's here. We've actually got a bigger problem here."

"Right. We're not...I'm not..."

"What's the issue, dear?" Bulda asked. "Why are you holding back from such an amazing girl?"

Bulda:
Is it the clumpy way she walks?

She jumped on the hands, Y/n taken aback. "Mom, what?"

Cliff:
Or the sarcastic way she talks?

"Dad!"

"Oh, no," Anna tried before being cut off by a rolling troll, who went to Kristoff's foot, lifting it up.

Female Troll 1:
Or the pear-shaped, square-shaped weirdness of her feet?

"This is not a foot thing!" She pulled away from her.

Another jumped up to smell her.

Male Troll 1:
And 'though we know she washes well,
She always ends up sorta smelly

He fainted at the stench in her clothes.

"I just got back from a hike!"

Bulda and Cliff jumped onto her shoulders, Bulda pinching her cheek.

Bulda:
But you'll never meet a lady who's as

Bulda, Cliff:
Sensitive and sweet

They pulled her lips up in a smile while her eyes begged Andar and Kristoff to help her. Kristoff shook his head, too amused to make them stop.

"You suck," she whispered to him, mouth still curled in a painful-looking smile. Her parents pulled her away and forced her to balance on them as they balled themselves back up.

Bulda, Cliff:
So she's a bit of a fixer-upper
So she's got a few flaws

Two of them hung on Sven's antlers.

Female Troll 2:
Like her peculiar reindeer

Male Troll 2:
Her thing with the reindeer

Female Troll 2, Male Troll 2:
That's a little outside of nature's laws

"Guys, seriously!! Y/n begged, but they continued on anyway.

Olaf, outside of the group of trolls, laughed and danced with the children.

Small Group of Trolls:
So she's a bit of a fixer-upper,
But we know what to do:
The way to fix up this fixer-upper is to fix her up with you

"Like I was SAYING," she yelled over them. She fully knew this would happen, but was still embarrassed about it. "We've got a serious problem and we need your help."

"I'll say!" Bulda jumped back up to meet Andar's eyes. "So tell me, dear."

Bulda:
Is it the way that she runs scared?

Male Troll 3:
Or that she's socially impaired?

A little girl rolled into Y/n's arms, who held her out to Andar.

Little Girl Troll 1:
Or that she only likes to tinkle in the woods?

"Please kill me," Y/n stated flatly.

The girl ran off, replaced by Cliff at the side of Y/n, who ruffled her hair.

Cliff:
Are you holding back your fondness
Due to her unnatural hardness?

A group of girls took him into a heart shape that they made with themselves.

Female Trolls:
Or the way she covers up that she's the honest goods?

They threw her, then rolled back up, remaining in their shape.

All:
She's just a bit of a fixer-upper
She's got a couple of bugs

"No, I don't!" she insisted, despite just scratching her head a few seconds ago.

Trolls:
Her isolation is confirmation of her desperation for healing-hugs

They grabbed her tightly, Andar putting a hand on his chest, thinking it was adorable. "Aww."

All:
So she's a bit of a fixer-upper,
But we know what to do:
The way to fix up this fixer-upper is to fix him up with you

They roped them up and dragged them away, spinning them around.

"Stop it stop it stop it STOP!" Y/n finally yelled. Firmly, she informed them, "He's engaged! And it's NOT to me!"

They blinked at her, then formed a circle to huddle and discuss.

Cliff:
So he's a bit of a fixer-upper

Male Troll 4:
That's a minor thing

Troll 5:
His quote "engagement" is a flex arrangement...

The little girl popped back up, showing off her finger.

Little Girl Troll 2:
I bet he didn't give her a ring!

They broke out of their circle, trying to force a cloak onto Andar.

Male Ensemble:
So he's a bit of a fixer-upper
His brain's a bit betwixt
Get the fiancée out of the way
And the whole thing will be fixed!

They held out their hands like it was the most obvious thing in the world, leaving Y/n to hide in her hands again with a sigh.

The female trolls dragged Andar away from the men to fawn over him and brush his short hair.

Female Ensemble:
Ah, ah, ah...

Bulda:
We're not sayin' you can change her,
'Cause people don't really change
We're only saying that love's a force
That's powerful and strange
People make bad choices if they're mad or scared or stressed

Andar looked out as he took in her words, thinking of how alone and scared Elsa still must have felt...

Bulda:
But throw a little love their way!

Female Ensemble:
[Throw a little love their way]

Female Trolls:
And you'll bring their best

All:
True love brings out their best!

Everyone's a bit of a fixer-upper
That's what it's all about!

They threw Y/n in a traditional trolls dress and turned her around to see Andar in a similar getup, complete with a headpiece. Kristoff felt his eyes nearly bulge out of his head when he saw his practically-sister in what was considered a wedding dress.

Cliff's kids jumped on top of him from biggest to smallest.

Cliff:
Father!

Little Girl Troll 2:
Sister!

Little Boy Troll:
Brother!

All:
We need each other
To raise us up and round us out
Everyone's a bit of a fixer-upper,
But when push comes to shove...

They pushed them closer, but far away enough for Olaf to get in the middle, all his parts flailing around from the children back into place.

Olaf:
The only fixer fixer-upper that can fix a fixer-upper is

All:
True! True!
True! True! True!
Love! [True love!]
Love, love, love!
Love! [True love!]

True...

A priest got in front of them as the others circled around them, Kristoff standing by Y/n as of he had just walked her down the aisle.

"Do you, Y/n, take Andar to be your trollfully weeded..."

"Wait, what?" she asked, taken aback.

"You're getting married."

All:
Love!

But before they could continue with a forced wedding, Andar fell over, more of his hair turning white.

"Andar!" Y/n threw off the clothes she was forced into and held Andar in her arms. "He's so cold..."

She looked down at him, his lids shut and lips turned downward. Trolls ran over and began to take him inside until he woke up, Y/n standing slowly, watching everyone leave. Kristoff seemed to hesitate for a moment, but decided to give her a moment and make sure that Andar was alright.

Y/n:
What is this hollow kind
Of helplessness I'm feeling?
This type of terror is new

And, the fact that I can
Hardly breathe is now revealing
How much I've changed because of you

You light the world for me
You live life fearlessly
Braver than the bravest of us do

You trust, you hope, you dare
You choose to feel and care
I thought that I was strong 'til I bumped into you

What do I know about love?
What do I know about love?

Everything I thought I did,
You went and changed it, kid

What do I know about love...?

-

An elderly troll came into the hut as Andar began to come to, looking at him with concern. "There is strange magic here."

"Grand Pabbie." Kristoff stood from the bedside, moving over so that Grand Pabbie could sit by him. Y/n came in thereafter, wringing her hands nervously by the door until Kristoff went over to rub her back in an attempt to soothe her.

Grand Practice took Andar's hands into his own. "Andar, your life is in danger. There is ice in your hearts, put there by your sister. If not removed, to solid ice you will freeze, forever."

"What? No..."

"But you can remove it, right?" Kristoff asked, his arm wrapped around Y/n and holding her hand, rubbing her knuckle with his thumb.

"I cannot. I'm sorry. If it was his heads, that would be easy. But only an act of true love can thaw a frozen heart."

"An act of true love...?" Andar asked.

Bulda held up her finger in thought. "A true love's kiss, perhaps?" She leaned over and gave Cliff a long kiss that made everyone uncomfortable.

"Andar, we've got to get you back to Hanna," Y/n said, stepping away from the door to help him up.

"Hanna..." he agreed, nodding along, but still in a daze and not quite sure to what he was agreeing to.

"Come on, Sven!" Kristoff called to him once they pushed past the door. He took Andar when Y/n passed him on to him next to Sven and got him on safely before getting on himself. "Come on, Olaf!"

"I'm coming! Let's go kiss this Hanna! ...who is this Hanna?!"

-

As they got there, Hanna looked up at the palace in awe. She shook it off and turned back to the soldiers, announcing, "We are here to find Prince Andar. Be on guard and no harm will come to the queen. Do you understand?"

The duke's men exchanged a look, not verbally agreeing to anything.

Marshmallow Jillian down at them and swung his arms, only for the guards to attempt to shoot him with their crossbows. He roared at them and slammed them into a snow drift.

Elsa peeked through the door before taking off back inside.

"The queen!" one of the fallen soldiers called, pointing at her. They picked up their crossbows and ran after him as Marshmallow knocked Hanna over. She looked up her saw them running after Elsa. With her sword, she cut off one of Marshmallow's legs and ran up the stairs. As the giant snowman fell, he hit the staircase the prince was desperately trying to get up, breaking a chunk off. He let out a yell as he began to fall off. Another soldier reached out and pulled him back up.

They went through, two of the guards running in while the rest stood guard, trying to keep the princess away from her. Seeing them, Elsa bolted. They ran into the main room on the bottom floor and looked around. Only when one looked up did they see Elsa sprinting up the stairs, trying not to trip over her cape. "Up there! Come on!"

She kept running away, his palace now tinted with a yellow color. It did not matter if she intended to see if Arendelle was salvageable once she had gotten control over herself: they would not let her leave alive.

Once she hit the top room and saw she was out of options, she looked back at the door, where the guards stood.

"We got her."

"No...please..." she begged to deaf ears. An arrow was shot at her. She put her hands up in defense, a large chunk of ice appearing in front of her, taking the arrow instead.

"Go around! Toss it!" They ran around, Elsa instantly putting her hands up.

"Stay away!" Ice rounded them in a separation. But her look of anger soon melted into fear as she watched the duke's guards find another way around to kill him.

"Fire, fire!"

She kept shooting out sharp ice mounds, the guards avoiding them quite well. They got on either side of her, aiming their crossbows. In a panic, Elsa pinned one up against the wall with icicles, pointing at his nose. The other guard tried to get away from the taller mounds that Elsa made, but one was able to push him back. He tried to push against it, but the queen used more of her power to cause it to break through the balcony's door. The guard fell back as the ice broke the railing off. Just as soon as he stood, his back was up against the iceberg, being pushed closer still towards the edge.

Hanna had managed to break through the door with her and Arendelle's guards behind him, just in time to see Elsa nearly impale a man and crush another. "Queen Elsa!" she called, the girl's back still turned to him as she hyper-fixated on what she saw as self-defense. "Don't be the monster they fear you are!"

She looked back, her face dropping, as did her hand. She looked at the man she nearly pushed off, wondering if she should check on him or if that would only get her shot.

As her back was turned, the guard who was about to be impaled aimed his crossbow to fire. Seeing this, Hanna ran over and jerked his arm just as he fired, hitting the giant chandelier above Elsa instead, slicing it off the ceiling.

The queen looked up, then began to run away, falling over as the chandelier broke. She let out a short yell before she fell into darkness.
