Chapter 4: First Steps

Charity goes about her day as well as she can. Knowing that Pure doesn't remember anything really took a toll on her. But she was determined, She was determined to achieve what Frey told her. She wants Pure back. Even if she doesn't deserve him in her mind.

She makes it to her 6th hour which is her choir class. A lot of familiar faces are here of course. It's one big family here. Charity sits down in her usual spot but no other the hero himself walks through the door. Pure stands there with a slight smile on his face. Everyone looks at him with shocked faces but Charity. A saddened look fills her eyes but she pushes back and shows her strength. Everyone but Charity runs up to Pure. Pure looks so confused but he feels like he oddly knows all of them. They all greet him and ask where he's been. Pure seems overwhelmed but laughs it off. Charity approaches the group slowly. Pure smiles slightly at her. Charity smiles slightly. Everyone parts ways of leaving Pure and Charity starting at each other. "You're that girl I met early. I never caught your name." Charity smiles slightly but you can tell she's hurt. "My name is Charity. Charity Quinn." Charity holds out a hand and Pure shakes it. "My name is Pure. Pure Placebo. But, I'm sure you knew that. It seems like everyone knows me." Charity nods. "Well, Yeah you're the best singer here. I'd hope everyone knows you. We're your friends here." Pure nods as his eye twitch as if something clicked inside him. Pure shakes his head and goes and sits his bag down by the mirrors. He takes his seat and starts making friends with all the new people he hasn't met yet in his section which there were a few.

Their teacher walks in running a little late. "I'm sorry everyone. Running a little late today. Let's get things star- Pure?" Pure looks to his teacher. "Mrs. Blankenship. It's been a long time." She sits her stuff down and places her jacket on her chair and smiles. "Indeed it has. I'm sure you know you must tell us why were you gone. You have been gone for almost 2 months now." Pure lifts his eyebrows. "Indeed I should. Well, I guess it all started just before school started. I was running from these guys who I guess wanted me dead. Lord could only guess why. I get cornered and they threaten to shoot me. Well, me being me I don't stand down from anything but I end up getting shot through my skull. I should be dead but through a series of many things happening to me and modern healthcare coming along well and they saved me but I was knocked out for a month and a half and for 2 weeks I started getting better and I could finally return here. They did inform me that I would have some memory loss but I do remember enough. I know the majority of the things I need for school. Is there some people I forgot. I'm sure of it." Mrs. Blankenship nods along processing this. "Well, who do you remember in this room. I got a roster here check names and see if you remember them." Pure nods and takes a pen out and is handed the roster and starts reading the names.

He checks some names but one of the names he didn't check was Charity's. Because, to him, he doesn't know her anymore. Mrs. Blankenship is handed the roster back and she reads over the names and is shocked he doesn't remember Charity. They were so close and they did everything together. She sets her surprised look aside. "Well, I'm glad you're back Pure. I'm sure we all are. We'll be sure that you'll be familiar with everyone. We are a family here." Pure nods and smiles. "Indeed I shall." Mrs. Blankenship smiles slightly and class proceeds as normally as it can.

Time Skip-A-Rooney

It's now the end of class, therefore, the end of the day. Pure is packing up and Charity looks at him. He seems so happy. It has been a long time since she saw that happy smile. She sheds a tear but wipes it away. She goes to grab her backpack as she puts a headphone in but she is stopped by low and behold Pure. "Hey." Pure says with a smile and Charity smiles slightly. "Hey, Pure. How is ya doing?" Pure smiles. "I'm doing fine. The first day back has been good. I have an odd feeling though." Charity raises an eyebrow at this. "What's the odd feeling?" Pure gets a discouraged face. "Idk I feel like this is all nostalgic. I feel like I've met people I don't know. I don't feel awkward around people I don't know because I feel like I know them somehow." Charity gives a sympathetic look. "I should tell you something. Don't tell him anything you know about him. It would hurt his brain too much and I couldn't repair that. If he gets to know you naturally. Then I can fix him. Just, act as you've never met besides today. I know it's hard but this is the only way." Frey says into her ear from the headphone. Charity nods slightly. "Well, I can't say I know how that feels but hey, I'm more than willing to help you if you need it." Pure gets a skeptical look. "Why is that? You don't know me." Charity hides that she is hurt by that. "Well, You're back here with memory loss. It's only fair to help you. I want to be your friend and that's what friends do. They help each other." Pure smiles and nods. "Well, I will accept this friendship and your help. It's gonna be nice to get to know you Charity." Charity nods. "Same with you. Hey, maybe we can talk as we walk to my bus. Get to know each other and just have fun." Pure nods. "That's a great idea. Well, Let's go and we'll ask questions about each other." Charity nods and smiles. Her first steps into saving him. Redeeming herself.

They walk and talk towards the bus stop. Pure learns a lot about her and Charity already knows everything Pure told her about him but she acts like it's new information and nods along and is, of course, interested even if she knows the info. They keep talking as they sit together at the bus stop. Every so often Pure's eye would twitch as if something clicked inside him. Charity, of course, notices this. "You okay Pure? Your eye keeps twitching." Pure nods. "Yeah, Sorry I get a nervous twitch which sometimes causes a headache." Charity nods knowing that's most likely not why. "Pure can I ask you something?" Pure nods. "Well, do you remember this?" Charity pulls a jacket out of her bag. It's Pure's hoodie with "You are Free" plastered on it's back. Pure looks at it blankly as his eye twitches a lot and little electricity sparks through his hair. Memories of the FPC flow back into his mind. "Y-Yeah, I remember this jacket. I used to own one of these a long while back before it disappeared. My sister gave that to me on my 16th birthday and she told me she custom made it for her cause and I was a firm believer in that cause and she gave this to me. Only one was ever made. How did you get this?" Charity has to lie.

She can't just tell him he gave it to her. "Your sister Allie gave me one. I and she are good friends. That's why I know somewhat about you. She made me one because I believed in your cause or well her cause. May I ask what was her cause?" Pure's eyes shift and look around then leans in. "She wishes for Placebos to live among us as equals. She wants everyone to be free from the tyranny that is the Fisheye Placebo Cooperation." Pure whispers to Charity. Charity's eyes widen. He remembers the FPC. "Who are the Placebos Pure? I honestly don't know any of them." She lies but lies well enough. Pure nods. "Well, My sister was turned into one. They were used as weapons for the FPC to inspire fear. Well, A group broke away to become their own people and they fight against the FPC to have all Placebos become free from their rule and to become equals with the people around them." Charity nods as she is fascinated by this yet she knew this. "One last question Pure." Pure gives a questioning look and nods. "Are you a Placebo?" Pure's eyes widen. His eyes shift slightly. "Indeed I am. You figured me out fast. You're a clever girl." Charity smiles and nods. "Why thank you Pure. I've been told I'm very inquisitive and I tend to connect things faster than the regular person. You said Placebos were used as weapons. I presume that means you have powers?" Pure nods. "Yes, I do. Not much but enough to protect me." Charity nods even though she knows he is the perfect protector and the perfect weapon.

Charity's bus arrives and people start loading on. "Well, There is my bus. It was nice getting to talk with you Pure." Pure nods. "Indeed, the same with you. Oh, Also. Can you not tell anyone that I'm a Placebo? I don't want to ruin anything I potentially have going on here." Charity giggles and smiles. "Of course. Secret safe with me. Here." Charity takes out a pen and writes down quickly her number on his hand. "Text me sometime. I'm always open to talk." Pure nods and blushes slightly. Pure grabs his phone and looks at his contacts and sees how neat and cleaned it is. He saves the number down on his phone. "Alright, I'll probably shoot you a text later." Charity nods and smiles blushing. "Alright, I'll see you around Pure." Charity hugs him self-consciously. Pure blushes and returns the hug. "See ya Pure. We should hang out sometime." Charity says as she smiles and so does Pure and he nods. Charity goes to her bus and takes a seat. As the bus drives away she waves to Pure who waves back.

The bus drives away and this leaves us with our hero. "I feel like I know her better than I actually do. This headache sucks. I might take you up on your offer Charity. Maybe we should hang out. It feels right..." Pure says to himself quietly and starts to make his way to his car.

(Well, This was fun to make. Finally into the first steps of recovery and trying to make up a false history for Pure. I and Isabelle had a lot of fun writing this. It's bedtime right now but we were determined to make this. I hope you guys enjoy this chapter and I got some ideas planned for the next chapter. I might skip forward in time or something. I don't know. But, we're gonna have fun with it. Anyways, I'll see you all in the next chapter. Pure Placebo out!)
