CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

After enjoying the rain, I got a pretty bad fever. I was feeling extremely down and light-headed. I managed to hold myself together, though, as I walked slowly towards the kitchen. I made some tea and took medicine, and after a brief rest, I almost forgot about the breakfast. I called the butler and asked him if he had made it.

"No, mistress, I was waiting for your orders," he replied, looking at my pale face.

"Great! Then I will make breakfast for him," I said, standing from the chair and walking towards the kitchen.

For a moment he gazed me, then he replied in a deep voice, "For master?"

"No, for aliens," I said with a laugh. "Of course for Walter."

"But mistress, you are so ill and-" he tried to say, but I had already left.

I made sandwiches, french omelette, toast, and a cheese roll. I wasn't good at cooking much but I used to make a perfect breakfast. I called for another servant to call Walter from upstairs. He was upstairs, and as usual was busy with his upcoming projects.

The sky was almost clear now. The birds were chirping again and I could hear the sound of dripping water. I was looking out of the kitchen window and enjoying the beautiful weather when I heard his footsteps. I went to the dining hall and arranged everything perfectly. Butler looked tense-there was a weird expression on his face....
Walter entered the room with a rather horrible expression. They both looked at my face while I was pouring his tea.

"Hey Walter! Have some tea and yummy breakfast. I thought, as it was Sunday, I should make something for my husband." My words were sarcastic enough for him to understand what I really meant.

"Miss Laura, I guess butler didn't tell you that I only eat cereals. If I eat something it should be only made by butler. Living in my house you have to obey my rules. My likes and dislikes." Saying those words, he pierced a knife directly into my heart.

"Butler! Please, explain to her all the rules of living in this house." He turned back.

"And Miss Laura, I hope you didn't catch a cold by getting wet in rain. I think you have understood me well by now." With those words he left.

I swallowed hard and a tear ran down my cheek. I hold myself. I drank my tea in silence.

"I tried to warn you mistress, but you didn't listen to me." He put his hands on my shoulder in sorrow.

I immediately set down my cup and ran upstairs, texting John to pick me up that evening. His reply was that he was out with Melissa and they were having a wonderful time together. Paul and Jennie came instead. I went into their car and left without telling Walter

I reached my house and hugged Jennie and Paul. The house had changed a little. Jennie told me about her wedding-it was probably next week or later. They would be going on their honeymoon after a month.

"Laura, I miss you so much. I cry sometimes whenever I remember those moments." Jennie was almost in tears.

I quickly hugged her again. I spent my entire life with her. She took care of me as a sister and she was with me when I was in pain. Paul pulled on my hands, saying, "Come on you two, let's have a good time together. What about a sleepover here? Call John too."

Me and Jennie looked each other and burst out laughing.

"What?" Paul shook his head in confusion.

"He is busy with someone," I said as I tried to control my laughter.

We all had a good time together. I was a bit tense because I hadn't told Walter that I was here. It doesn't matter to him. I hated him now. My feelings for him were no more.

"Oh dear, you have a fever. It doesn't seem like Walter takes good care of you," Jennie said putting her hands on my forehead.

She took me upstairs and brought me a blanket. I took the medicine she brought me and fell asleep.

Walter knocked Laura's door not knowing that she wasn't there.

"She isn't coming for dinner?" asked Walter of one of his servants.

"She is not at home master. I think she left after breakfast," replied the servant.

Walter didn't feel good about this. He was a bit disappointed about her behavior. But then he remembered what he said and did to her. Butler served him dinner and he didn't eat as he usually did. He felt guilty for saying such harsh words to his wife.

I woke up early and went downstairs to have breakfast with Jennie. Paul had left late last night because he had to go to his mother's house. I skipped the hospital for today and went shopping with Jennie. I gave all my cases to John. After shopping I returned to the graveyard.

"Bye honey," said Jennie, waving her hand.

"Bye."

I went in and entered the lounge, there was a sound of gossiping and laughter, and saw a woman sitting with Walter.

She looked at me and stood up. I figured out who she was. The same woman I saw at my wedding.

"Such a beautiful young woman," she greeted me with a smile. She hugged me, and I could see Walter already glaring me.

"You're Walter's sister, right?" I asked her.

"Yes, you can call me Ella Scott instead of calling me this jerk's sister," she said with a laugh.

"Nice to meet you Ella." I bowed.

She looked at Walter and asked him to take me upstairs.

"Walter, this is what I expect from you. You should greet your wife," she said, scolding him. We both looked at her cluelessly.

Walter and I went upstairs quietly. Reaching upstairs he directed me to his room. I went in his room and changed before going downstairs again.

She was a very lively woman with a very impressive character. I couldn't help but smile at her as I sat in the corner looking at the TV.

"Come here, dear, sit next to your husband," said Ella.

I sat next to the nice man. They both kept talking and I was just looking here and there.

"Well I have decided for all of three to go to beach tomorrow," she said patting Walter's shoulder.

"Beach! But El-" Walter tried to say but she interrupted.

"No, I don't want to listen any of your excuses," she said.

"But I have to go to the hospital," I protested lightly.

"In the evening, then, when you are done," she said with a sweet smile.

"Emm...okay," I murmured.

"And Laura congratulations on your wedding. I am shocked to see that you melted my brother's heart. He is not the easy-going type. For me, I have been divorced so I decided to come back here and help my brother in his business. I won't stay at this house but sometimes I can, can't I?" she smirked.

For a moment I paused, unsure, but tried to speak.

"Yeah, of course," I replied with a smile.

We all went to sleep. She was going to stay here, which meant I had to share his room. What life has done to me!
