CHAPTER FOURTEEN
After our nice two week vacation ended, we reached home safely. I hugged Jennie and John in a loving embrace. Paul ended up joining us as well and it was a lovely. Stefan told us that he will be leaving for Mexico in two days and that made her look shocked.
"Stefan, what about your engagement with Laura?" she looked at the both of us, concerned.
He didn't reply after a while, so I decided to answer her, "Jennie‚ Stefan and I can't marry, please try to understand," I said humbly, putting my arms around her. A real friend would understand this.
"Jennie, she is a perfect lady, honest to God, but I respect her and her independence, so if she doesn't want to get married, my lord, I won't force her," he added to my statement, causing me to smile, "I still like her and always will. I am always there for you Laura, and I can promise you that."
Jennie stormed out of the room in angry, and I stood there in disbelief, what kind of friend gets mad at these kinds of decisions? Paul quickly followed after her. John and Stefan went together, and that left me alone. Sure, I hurt Jennie, but she was being a brat. She had no right to be mad at me, I'm my own person and I deserve to be happy.
Out of angry, I followed her and Paul, meeting up with them at the parking lot. When she saw me, she turned away. What a brat. "Jennie," I began, trying to calm myself down, "Why are you so upset that I decided not to marry this guy I haven't even know for a year?"
She once again didn't answer.
"I'm really starting to question this friendship; I have followed you through with all your decisions for years, supporting you through everything, why can't you support me? Maybe I don't want to get married, maybe I'm not ready, you should be there to support me," I stated, crossing my arms.
She turned to face me, "I want you to be happy, and I think this is the main way, I just want what is the best for you and you're turning down everything I do!" She had tears running down her face.
I sighed, "Jennie, marriage is not the key to happiness. I've learned a lot over the last few weeks. From Stefan, Walter," I felt my stomach cringe as I said his name, "Even from you. You don't need to be in love to be happy; you just need love from others. Friends, family, that's what is important."
She began to calm down, and suddenly embraced me in a hug, "I'm sorry."
I laughed slightly and hugged my best friend back, "It's okay, let's just stop worrying about my love life, and focus on your wedding." She pulled away and nodded, and we all got back into the car and drove back home.
The next week was filled with patients that wanted to see me personally. Life was finally returning back to normal, the only thing different was that Jennie's wedding was coming up soon and there was a lot of work to do. Paul and I planned their honeymoon. He eventually asked me why I didn't want to marry Stefan. I just shrugged him off saying, "He was nice, but he wasn't meant for me."
Me and Jennie also eventually went out to go pick a beautiful bridal dress. There was still about a month left until Jennie's marriage. John and I decorated the house with small festive lights and all kinds decorative. It was the perfect time to have a wedding because with Winter almost over, you could already feel Spring. I decided to clean up the garden and put all my favorite flowers and special herbs, making the backyard beautiful.
The other day John introduced us to his new girlfriend, Melissa. She was from Scotland and had a pretty face, but that was about it. She wasn't the most intelligent woman, but we supported him. John told us he was already planning on asking her to marry him. I was able to convince him to hold off a little longer, and find out more about her. But either way, the news made us happy, and we went out to celebrate. Life seemed to be getting better and I have to admit, today was a great day.
