As time passed, Evan took great care of Jessica. Especially during her moments when she had to run to the bathroom because of morning sickness. He had hated to see Jessica get so sick.
Now, Jessica has made it to her second trimester. She felt a little relieved to have made this far. She still worried that something would happen, but, she was trying to take things one day at a time.
The morning sickness was now gone and a small bump appeared. Jessica's hand was glued to it. The bump could still be hidden by her clothing.
She has also felt the baby move but the baby hasn't kicked yet. She couldn't wait for that moment to come.
She was now twelve weeks pregnant and today was April 20th, her birthday.
Evan had woken up early and made her some pancakes with some eggs on the side. He squeezed some fresh orange for her and the last touch was some whip cream with some sprinkles then he added a candle on top of the stack of pancakes.
He put everything on a tray then walked upstairs to their bedroom.
He opened the door with his foot and walked into the bedroom. He placed the tray on the dresser for a moment then walked over to Jessica's side of the bed.
He sat down and leaned in to kiss Jessica. His hand then rubbed her shoulder and Jessica stirred.
Jessica's eyes fluttered open. She smiled at Evan and stretched a little. She looked at the tray of food and sat up.
"Oh, Evan!" She said. "This looks amazing! Thank you, honey." She motioned for him to come closer to her. Evan did so and she was able to place a kiss on his lips.
"Happy Birthday, Jessica." Evan said as he placed the tray on Jessica lap. "How are you this morning? How's baby Peters?" He then placed a hand on her very small bump.
Jessica placed her hand on top of Evan's and said. "We're both doing well." She smiled then continued. "Evan, tonight we can finally tell everyone about the baby."
Sarah and Lily were making a small get together dinner for Jessica. They invited Phil, Emily and Michael to join them to help celebrate Jessica's birthday. Also, a few employees from the bookstore.
"Yeah!" He said happily. "I think my dad will so so happy. Emily too!"
Jessica smiled; she wasn't sure what Emily's retraction would be. It took them a while to be on even ground and be okay with each other. She was worried Emily wouldn't be happy for them.
Evan sat beside Jessica and lit the candle that was on top of the pancakes. He sang Happy Birthday to her. After, Jessica was about to blow out the candle but, Evan stopped her.
"Wait! You have to make a wish." He said.
"Oh! Yeah, I forgot." She giggled.
Jessica closed her eyes and made her wish. She wished that her baby would be okay and be born healthy. That's all she wanted.
Lola sat close by and wagged her tail happily as she watched what was going on. Even though, Lola has no idea what was going on, she could feel the atmosphere as being happy.
Jessica opened her eyes after making her wish then she blew out the candle. Evan cheered then they both relaxed and ate their breakfast together.
After breakfast, Jessica had a very relaxing morning. She even fell back to sleep for another hour.
Evan took care of washing the dishes and putting everything away.
Once Jessica woke up, she took a shower then got dressed. Evan was already dressed for the day and was waiting for Jessica in the living room.
Once Jessica was dressed, she walked downstairs with Lola following close behind.
Jessica was dressed in some black leggings and a blue lose fitting blouse that she had in her closet. That's all that fit her and today, she and Evan were going over to the mall and shop for new clothes for her.
Jessica grabbed her purse and car keys then they were off.
Jessica drove them to the mall and they walked around for about two hours.
Evan walked with her to a few stores. He waited patiently at each one as Jessica tried on clothes.
Jessica found a few new outfits and dresses that she loved. She also bought a few outfits that were a few sizes too big so she could grow into.
After finding new clothes, they passed by the food court of the mall and Jessica had a craving for chocolate ice cream.
Once Jessica had her ice cream, they continued their walk and just window shopped. They weren't in a hurry and it felt nice to just relax and enjoy Jessica's day.
As Jessica finished her ice cream cone, Evan stops walking.
"Evan, you okay?" Jessica asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Look." Evan said with a smile as he pointed to something in the window. He was pointing at a teddy bear.
It was light brown and on the bear's foot, it said My First Teddy. They had stopped right in front of a baby store.
"I want to buy that for the baby." Evan said.
Jessica smiled and her heart warmed. "Awe, Evan. That's so sweet." She said.
Evan was excited to buy the baby the teddy bear. They walked inside the baby store and Evan picked up the bear then went to the cash register.
Jessica had decided that, she didn't want anything for the baby right now until they find out what the gender was. She couldn't wait for that moment.
Jessica couldn't help but tear up when she saw Evan interact with cashier and when it came down to pay with money, Evan was able to do it on his own.
Evan had gone a long way of learning how to do things on his own and be independent. He still needed help with certain things but other than that, Evan was doing great.
After Evan paid, he walked back to Jessica and showed her the teddy bear. Jessica held for a moment and was just so happy.
When they returned home, Evan brought in all her shopping bags while Jessica went to bed for a while. She wanted to rest before going over to Sarah's.
Jessica took a nap and held her baby's new teddy bear. Evan smile wide and gently kissed her forehead. Jessica stirred a bit but didn't wake up.
Finally, it was time to get ready for dinner. Jessica wore a new blue long sundress and wore a tan colored cardigan.
Even though her belly was well hidden, Jessica wanted to still wear the cardigan. Others may not be able to see her tiny bump, but she knew it was there and felt a bit self conscious.
Evan locked up the house and they walked over hand in hand to Sarah's and Lily's.
When they arrived, Sarah hugged Jessica and told her Happy Birthday. Lily was next then they guided them to the living room.
Sarah and Lily were the only ones who knew about the baby. They were so excited and happy for Jessica and Evan.
Soon, Emily, Michael and Phil arrived and so did Emma from the bookstore.
Emily, Michael and Phil greeted Jessica with hugs and presents. Emma too hugged and gave Jessica a present.
"Thank you, Emma for coming." Jessica said.
"Thanks for inviting me." Emma said. "Oh! Heather said she couldn't make it. She couldn't find a sitter."
Heather was the other employee who works at the bookstore.
Emma Roberts was a nineteen year old college freshman. She took the job at the bookstore halftime to help her through college.
She was a very shy girl and was very respectful. She and Sarah and Lily had gotten close. She was hanging out a bit more with the couple.
A couple moments later and they all finally sat down to eat dinner.
All in the room were talking and catching up with how everyone was doing.
After eating their meal, Lily brings out a birthday cake for Jessica with lit candles.
They all sing Happy Birthday then Jessica blew out the candles.
Before they cut the cake, Jessica and Evan stood up in front of everyone.
"Before we have some cake, I would like to say, thank you all for being here to celebrate my birthday." Jessica said. "Also...Evan and I have some news we would like to share with everyone. Evan, you want to tell them?"
Evan nodded his head with a huge smile and said. "We're having a baby!"
He then pulled out the recent ultrasound of their baby from his pocket and placed it on the table for everyone to see.
