Chapter 24: Walking Through Memories
Time skip: 6 months
the days turned into weeks and the weeks into months.
life has settled into a beautiful rhythm for Taehyung and Jungkook. The hot sun-blazing summer had gradually faded away, giving way to the crispness of autumn, and now, the cool winds of early winter had begun to flow in. The leaves had turned amber and gold, fluttering in the chilly breeze that danced through the streets, announcing the onset of winter.
The couple has stepped into a new phase of their life. Clearing the Neet pg exam with good rank, both got their desired branch.
Gone were the lazy mornings when the couple could stay in each other's company. Instead, their alarms now rang before dawn.
Taehyung would be the first to wake, always brushing a soft kiss on Jungkook's forehead before slipping out of bed. But it was only a matter of minutes before Jungkook followed, both of them moving around their room as they prepared for another long day at the hospital.
Their once-leisurely breakfasts had transformed into quick bites of toast and coffee.
Evenings had changed too. Their shifts often stretched into the night, leaving them exhausted but content. When they finally returned home, there wasn't much time for long conversations or grand gestures. Instead, their routine now consisted of quiet companionship—Taehyung would sit at the kitchen table, reviewing his notes for the next day, while Jungkook would be curled up on the couch, half-asleep with a book in her hands.
Mrs. Kim was the one who kept them on the track. Observing their routine, she was always present the the dining table making sure both of them were well-fed.
Weekends were rare gems—when their schedules aligned, they'd spend the mornings catching up on much-needed rest, bundled together under layers of blankets. On these lazy days, the outside world would be ignored and the simple joy of waking up next to each other was enough.
Sometimes, they'd cook breakfast together, laughing as Taehyung tried (and usually failed) to perfect a new recipe, while Jungkook would tease him for his masterpieces.
This was their life now, their bodies were busy, shoulders burdened under the hospital duties but their hearts were content. because the beating organ knew that they would be in each other's arms at the end of the day, this thought fueled both taehyung and jungkook.
One Chilly morning,
The alarm rang through the chilly morning air, pulling Jungkook awake. She lazily rubbed her eyes and glanced at the clock. Her heart skipped a beat—it was 9:15, and Taehyung had to be at the hospital by 10.
Panic set in as she turned to her husband, who was still sleeping soundly beside her, his face buried in the pillow.
"Taehyung," Jungkook whispered urgently, gently shaking his shoulder. "You're going to be late."
Taehyung groaned softly, his eyes open for a moment before closing again. Instead of getting up, he lazily wrapped his arms around Jungkook's waist and pulled her closer, nuzzling into her neck. His warm breath tickled her skin, and she felt a soft kiss brush against her collarbone.
"Five more minutes," Taehyung murmured, his voice heavy with sleep. "It's too early..."
Jungkook smiled despite her panic, her heart melting at the warmth of his embrace. His closeness felt like a cocoon, protecting them from the cold morning outside. For a moment, she forgot about the time as she lay there, nestled against him, her hands instinctively stroking his hair.
"Taehyung, you have to get up," she said softly. Taehyung's arms tightened around her, and the wife couldn't help but giggle as he pressed his face deeper into the crook of her neck, refusing to let her go.
"No" he mumbled against her skin, his voice full of sleep. "Just stay like this for a little longer."
But then, reality hit Jungkook once again. She pulled back and gently nudged him again, whispering, "Taehyung, seriously, it's 9:20 now. You'll be late!"
Suddenly, Taehyung's eyes snapped open, and his sleepiness was replaced by pure panic. He shot up in bed, glancing at the clock, his face turning pale.
"9:20?!" His voice was filled with shock and regret. "I have less than 40 minutes!"
Quickly, Taehyung threw off the covers, stumbling out of bed. His movements were quick but disorganized as he grabbed his clothes with hurried hands while muttering under his breath.
"I can't believe I slept in! Ugh," Taehyung groaned, struggling to put his shirt on and buttoning it wrong in his haste. His eyes darted around as if he could somehow make time slow down. "Where are my socks? Where's my bag?"
In the next moment, taehyung dashed to brush his teeth and splash his face with water, Jungkook was already at work, arranging his things and trying to get everything ready for him. She frowned when Taehyung emerged from the bathroom, his face still wet from washing.
"You won't take a bath?" Jungkook asked, knowing how punctual Taehyung usually was about his morning routine.
Taehyung paused mid-step and flashed her a smirk. "I took one a few hours ago," he said, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
Jungkook's cheeks flushed deep red as she realized the hidden meaning in his words, recalling the events of the previous night. She squeaked, covering her face with her hands, unable to suppress her smile.
"Tae!" she chided softly, her voice muffled behind her fingers.
Taehyung chuckled, loving how easily he could make his wife blush. "You asked," he teased, running his fingers through his damp hair.
Jungkook walked over to him. "You're a mess," she teased gently, noticing his buttons were all mismatched. Before he could dash out of the room, she grabbed his collar, pulling him back towards her.
"Hold still. You'll go to the hospital looking like a confused intern at this rate."
She began to unbutton his shirt, fixing his mistake with gentle hands. Meanwhile, Taehyung stood there, catching his breath as he stared at her, slightly embarrassed but also incredibly grateful.
"How did I get so lucky?" he mumbled under his breath.
"You'd be lost without me," Jungkook replied softly, her fingers working to fix his shirt. When she was done, she straightened his collar and smoothed his hair, finally letting him go.
"There," Jungkook said with a smile, giving him a light tap on his chest. "Now you look like my Dr. Kim again."
Taehyung grinned sheepishly, leaning down to plant a quick kiss on her forehead. "Thank you. I owe you one."
"Maybe you should just listen to me the first time next time," she teased, handing him his coat.
Taehyung gave a hurried nod and darted towards the door, before dashing out of the room.
Jungkook stood there for a moment, watching her husband as he rushed downstairs for breakfast, ready to tackle the day, albeit a little late.
Jungkook followed Taehyung down the stairs, her feet moving lightly as she stifled a smile, already imagining what awaited them in the kitchen.
Taehyung moved down with cautious steps, highly aware of the camera that was armed in the living room. when he was about to touch the main door, a voice cut the silence and his hand halted.
"you will be missed, kim taehyung," he muttered to himself.
"Well, well," Mrs Kim began, her eyes narrowing.
"You're finally awake? At this hour?!" Mrs. Kim's hands were on her hips as she stood beside the breakfast table, her eyes narrowing at Taehyung.
"Mom, I," Taehyung searched for excuses, looking at his wife to save him from his mother.
"Do you even know what time it is, Taehyung? You're supposed to be at the hospital in less than half an hour!"
Jungkook bit her lip to keep from giggling as she leaned against the doorframe, watching her husband squirm under his mother's scolding.
Taehyung tried to make a quick escape, muttering something about getting his bag. He barely made it past the doorway when Mrs Kim's hand shot out, expertly grabbing the collar of his jacket.
"Oh no, you don't!" she laughed, pulling him back with ease. "Not before I'm done with you."
"Mom!" Taehyung groaned, but there was a smile on his face as he allowed himself to be dragged back to the table.
Jungkook, already seated, was giggling softly, her tiredness forgotten as she watched Taehyung. But her amusement was short-lived as Mrs. Kim turned her playful glare toward her as well.
"And you, Jungkook! Both of you look like you've been running on fumes for days. Do you think skipping breakfast will help? What am I going to do with you two?"
Jungkook tried to stammer out an excuse, "W-We were just really busy with our shifts—"
Mrs. Kim cut her off with a chuckle, shaking her head. "Busy or not, you still need to take care of yourselves! I didn't raise you both to run around like headless chickens!"
She reached for the plate of eggs, piling them onto their plates. "Now, sit and eat."
Still holding onto Taehyung's collar, she guided him back to his chair. As soon as he sat, Mrs Kim picked up a spoonful of food and, without warning, held it up to Taehyung's mouth.
"Open up," she said, her tone affectionate despite the scolding.
"Mom, I can eat myself," Taehyung protested weakly, but he obeyed, opening his mouth when he got that dangerous Asian mom eyes glare.
Jungkook was next. Mrs. Kim didn't let her off the hook, scooping up some rice and holding it in front of her.
"And you too, my dear," she said, her voice softer now. "No excuses today."
Jungkook blushed but obediently took the bite, her heart warmed by the loving gesture.
Mrs. Kim, satisfied with their compliance, ruffled Taehyung's hair and patted Jungkook's head. "There. Much better. My children need to be strong and healthy, even if that means I have to feed you both like toddlers."
Taehyung grinned sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Thanks, Mom."
Jungkook nodded shyly, her heart full as she shared a glance with Taehyung, both feeling grateful for the loving scold that always made their mornings a little brighter.
Just as Taehyung and Jungkook were finishing their food under Mrs Kim's watchful eyes, Hana strolled out of the kitchen with a smirk, catching sight of the adorable scene unfolding. She leaned against the doorframe, her arms crossed, a teasing grin tugging at her lips.
"Well, well, well. Look who's getting hand-fed like little babies," she quipped.
"Didn't know our mighty Dr Kim needed to be spoon-fed?"
Taehyung groaned dramatically, rolling his eyes as he shoved the last bit of toast into his mouth. "Hana, don't you have something better to do? Like, I don't know, torment someone else?"
Hana raised an eyebrow and smirked, walking over to take a seat across from them. "Why would I do that when I can see Mr. Tough Guy being pampered like a prince? Should I fetch a crown for you too, Your Highness?"
Jungkook, trying to stifle a giggle, glanced at Taehyung with wide, amused eyes. "You do look a little royal this morning," she teased softly.
Taehyung scoffed, looking between the two of them. "Alright, enough ganging up on me."
"Someone's feeling sensitive," Hana shot back with a laugh, reaching for a piece of toast. "Honestly, I don't even know how you manage to be all big and scary outside when you come home to this."
Taehyung shot a mock glare at Hana. "I have enough strength to carry you out of this kitchen."
Hana smirked, leaning back with a fake thoughtful look. "What happened to Mr. Punctual today, huh? How did you manage to get late?"
Taehyung shot her an annoyed look, though his reddening ears betrayed him. "I wasn't late," he mumbled through a mouthful of toast. "Just... didn't hear the alarm. Simple."
Hana snorted loudly, crossing her arms tighter, her grin widening. "Didn't hear the alarm? You? The guy who sets alarms for his alarms? Come on brother, don't make me laugh. What's the real reason?"
Jungkook sipped her tea, but her flushed cheeks told a different story.
Taehyung searched for something to say that wouldn't reveal not so-innocent night. "Uh... we just talked a little too late. You know, catching up." He waved it off, trying to sound casual, but Hana was already on to him.
Mrs kim finally chimed in with a chuckle. "Alright, Hana, don't bully them too much. Let them finish their breakfast."
Taehyung stood up, clearly eager to escape the teasing. "I'll get you back for this, Hana," he grumbled, grabbing his bag and giving her a half-amused, half-annoyed look.
"Oh, I'm sure you will," Hana called after him, winking at Jungkook. "Just make sure you're on time for that."
The entire room erupted in laughter, with Mrs Kim shaking her head affectionately, watching her children—both by birth and by love—fill the house with joy.
Taehyung prepared to leave, he glanced back at Jungkook, his eyes softening for a moment. Mrs. Kim, sensing the unspoken exchange, patted Hana on the shoulder and gestured toward the kitchen.
"Come hana, help me make breakfast for your dad," she said with a smile, leaving Jungkook and Taehyung alone in the hallway.
Jungkook understood the silent gesture. She waited until Taehyung was done tying his shoes before moving toward him. By the time she reached the door, Taehyung had already stood up, his bag slung over one shoulder.
Taehyung closed the distance between them in slow steps. Gently, his hands found their way to Jungkook's face, cradling her cheeks like she was the most delicate thing he'd ever held. His thumbs brushed against her skin in slow circles.
"Give me a kiss," he murmured, his voice low but firm.
Jungkook blinked, caught off guard by his sudden request. "What?" she stammered, her cheeks heating as she looked at him in disbelief.
"A few minutes ago, your sister was teasing you, and now you're asking for a kiss? Aren't you shameless, Doctor Kim?"
A teasing smirk tugged at Taehyung's lips, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "Shameless? Maybe. But only when it comes to you."
Jungkook's blush deepened, her gaze flickering to his lips, then back to his eyes. "You really have no shame," she mumbled, though her voice softened.
"None at all," Taehyung grinned, his face inching closer. "So...?"
Jungkook let out a small, defeated sigh, her lips curving into a soft smile. "Fine, just one," she whispered, standing on her toes to meet his lips.
Taehyung leaned in, closing the final gap between them, his lips brushing hers in a tender kiss that was soft yet powerful in its simplicity. It wasn't rushed or filled with urgency. It was calm, gentle, and filled with all the quiet promises they had made to one another—unspoken yet deeply felt. His kiss lingered like a whisper against her lips, and Jungkook's eyes closed, feeling the softness, the warmth, the love.
When they pulled away, just a breath apart, Taehyung's gaze lingered on hers, the affection and urgency still dancing in his eyes. Jungkook opened her eyes slowly, her lashes fluttering like the softest breeze as she met his gaze.
A teasing smile played on his lips. "For now, I'm satisfied with that," he murmured, his voice a low purr. "But in the evening, I'll show you just how shameless I can be."
Jungkook's cheeks flushed a deep shade of pink, and she playfully pushed him away. "You're going to be late!" she reminded him.
Taehyung chuckled, giving her one last lingering look before turning towards the door. "Alright, alright. I'm going," he said, his tone light and teasing.
"Be careful, okay?" she said, "And come back soon."
"I will," Taehyung reached for the door, he paused and turned back toward Jungkook, his eyes filled with tenderness.
"Listen" he called softly, causing her to look up.
"Yeah?" Jungkook asked, a curious tilt to her head.
A small smile spread across Taehyung's lips. "Relax today, okay? It's your day off. No studying, no stressing—just enjoy yourself," he said, his voice warm and comforting.
Jungkook's gaze was gentle, her eyes reflecting surprise and affection. She nodded slowly, a small smile tugging on her lips. Her cheeks, still slightly flushed from earlier, had a soft, rosy glow. She bit her lip, her fingers gently curling into the fabric of her dress, as if holding onto his words.
Taehyung's smile widened, his heart swelling at the sight of her.
When the door finally closed behind him, Jungkook stood frozen for a moment, her heart racing. Her cheeks flushed a deep pink, warmth spreading through her body as she replayed the moment in her mind.
It was their first kiss outside the privacy of their bedroom, and the thought made her heart skip a beat. There was something so sweet about it, so spontaneous and pure. She wasn't used to such displays—Taehyung was affectionate, yes, but this felt different.
It felt special. Her blush deepened, her heart fluttering like a butterfly trapped in a jar and she quickly turned, pressing her hands to her cheeks in an attempt to cool down.
But no matter what, she couldn't stop the shy smile that kept tugging at the corners of her lips. It wasn't their first but it was perfect.
Jungkook wandered into the kitchen, trying to calm her racing heart. She saw Mrs. Kim moving around, preparing breakfast for others and decided to lend a hand.
"Let me help you, maa," Jungkook offered softly, stepping closer to grab a dish.
Mrs. Kim turned around with a warm smile. She placed her hands gently on Jungkook's shoulders, guiding her away from the kitchen counter. "Oh no, dear," she said sweetly but firmly. "You need rest. Go back to bed."
Jungkook blinked in surprise, but Mrs. Kim's loving tone left no room for argument. "But I can—" Jungkook began, her voice soft and a little hesitant.
"No buts," Mrs Kim chuckled, giving her a nudge towards the living room. "You've been working so hard--- those hospital shifts and duties. You need to sleep, not help me with breakfast. Now go, before I come tuck you in myself."
Jungkook smiled shyly, her heart warmed by Mrs. Kim's care. "Okay," she whispered, her blush deepening as she realized just how much this family cherished her.
"That's my baby" Mrs. Kim added with a soft laugh, watching Jungkook retreat with gentle steps. As she walked away, Jungkook couldn't help but feel peace, knowing she was surrounded by so much love.
Jungkook moved through the hospital corridors. The sound of activity around her was a familiar music to her days. She checked on patients, adjusted medication schedules, and talked with colleagues.
The evening shift had a quieter rhythm compared to the hectic pace of daytime hours. Jungkook found a moment of peace between her tasks. She smiled softly to herself as she interacted with patients.
Jungkook entered a room and noticed a couple sitting together, their hands were entwined. The pregnant lady was resting on the bed with a happy smile, while the gentleman sat beside her, gently holding her hand.
The couple's eyes sparkled with happiness, their love evident in the way they looked at each other. The man whispered something softly, causing the woman to giggle and blush.
Jungkook smiled as she observed the couple, the way the man placed a gentle hand on the woman's belly and the way she responded with a soft touch to his cheek was heartwarming. It was clear they were deeply in love and excited about the new chapter in their lives.
Jungkook approached to check on the woman, the couple greeted her with friendly smiles.
"Everything looking good?" Jungkook asked with a smile.
"Everything's perfect," the lady replied, her voice filled with contentment. "We're just so excited for the baby to arrive."
Jungkook nodded, her heart swelling with happiness. "It's such a beautiful thing to see you both so in love and excited. Congratulations again."
Jungkook finished her checkup and prepared to leave, the couple exchanged a final, loving glance. Jungkook watched as they shared a soft, sweet kiss, their affection evident in every touch.
Jungkook sat on the edge of her bed, her thoughts drifting away as she gazed out the window. Her fingers lightly rested on her stomach, an unconscious gesture as her mind wandered to the future.
She imagined a time when she and Taehyung might share a similar moment, their child nestled between them. The thought of nurturing a new life together, of creating a family, filled her with a deep joy. Her heart swelled with the possibilities of what the future could hold.
Jungkook's eyes softened and a tender smile graced her lips. She pictured herself and Taehyung, holding their baby in their arms, their love radiating through their little family.
Jungkook's daydream was interrupted by the familiar ring of her phone. Her heart skipped a beat when she saw Taehyung's name flashing on the screen. She couldn't help but blush, a soft smile spreading across her face as she answered the call.
"Hello?" Jungkook's voice was warm and a little breathless, her earlier reverie still fresh in her mind.
"Hey, Jungkook," Taehyung's voice came through, smooth and reassuring. "I'm standing in front of the hospital. Are you done with your shift?"
Jungkook's heart fluttered at the thought of seeing him. She quickly packed up her things, her movements slightly hurried.
"Yes, I'm just wrapping up now," she said, "I'll be right out."
After tidying up her workspace, Jungkook grabbed her bag and made her way towards the hospital entrance, her thoughts still lingering on the sweet dreams she had just had. Stepping out into the crisp evening air, she looked around, her gaze searching for Taehyung.
Jungkook stepped outside, the cool evening air brushed against her skin, and her eyes instinctively searched for him. her curious wandering gaze finally landed on Taehyung, standing there with an umbrella in hand and that familiar smile on his face, her heart fluttered. His presence alone seemed to make the world around them feel brighter, even with the soft rain that had begun to fall.
Taehyung's eyes lit up the moment he saw her approaching, his smile widening with each step she took toward him. Jungkook walked up to him, her cheeks glowing with a natural blush, happiness radiating from her in waves.
"Hi," she greeted softly, her voice barely above a whisper, her eyes reflecting the affection she felt for him.
"Hey," Taehyung responded, his tone tender as he reached out, gently taking her hand in his. The way his fingers intertwined with hers felt like home, a perfect fit that made her heart skip a beat.
Taehyung held the umbrella over them, the gentle patter of rain on its surface creating a soft, intimate shelter around them.
Jungkook glanced up at him, "You didn't have to come all this way, you know. I could have taken a cab or something."
Taehyung chuckled softly, his gaze warm. "I wanted to. Besides, the car's in for service, and I didn't mind walking a bit. It's a nice change of pace."
Jungkook leaned a little closer to Taehyung, finding comfort in his warmth as he held the umbrella over both of them.
"You have a talent for showing up just when I need you," Jungkook said, a teasing tone hidden behind the soft voice.
Taehyung chuckled, his thumb gently brushing the back of her hand as they walked. "Well, I do have a sixth sense when it comes to you," he teased. "Plus, I couldn't let my pretty doctor wife walk home in the rain, could I?"
Jungkook smiled, her cheeks still flushed. "You've always got an excuse to be sweet, don't you?" she said, "How was your day, by the way?"
"It was... hectic," Taehyung admitted, his voice softening as he glanced at her. "But seeing you like this makes it worth it. I mean, look at us—hand in hand, walking through the rain like something out of a romance movie."
Jungkook laughed softly, the sound light and melodic. "A movie, huh? Well, if it's anything like a movie, you're definitely the leading man, Doctor Kim," she teased, nudging him playfully.
Taehyung grinned, "And you, Mrs. Kim, are the star of my show," he quipped, his voice dropping to a tender murmur as he wrapped his arm around jungkook's shoulder and pulled her closer to his embrace.
They continued walking, the city lights reflecting off the rain-soaked streets around them. Jungkook knew that no matter how chaotic their days could be, moments like these were hers to cherish.
Jungkook smiled, her fingers brushing against his as they walked. Taehyung glanced at her, his smile tender. They continued walking, the rain gradually becoming a steady drizzle. Taehyung kept the umbrella steady, his other hand reaching out to gently touch Jungkook's arm.
"So, how was your day?" Taehyung asked.
"It was busy, but I'm used to it," Jungkook replied. "Today, there was a very cute couple I met today—they were so in love, it made me think about us."
Taehyung's eyebrows lifted further, a curiosity dancing in his eyes. "Oh? And what was so special about this couple that made you think of us?"
Jungkook hesitated for a moment, her cheeks warming as she glanced up at him, suddenly shy. "Well... they were expecting a baby," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Taehyung blinked in surprise, his gaze softening as a warm smile spread across his face.
"A baby, huh?" His voice was low, but filled with tenderness as he leaned a little closer, his hand gently squeezing hers. "And that made you think of us?"
Jungkook nodded, her eyes fluttering nervously as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. "I don't know, it just... it made me wonder if that'll be us one day," she admitted shyly, her heart racing at the thought.
Taehyung's heart melted at her words, his hands enveloping his tiny wife in his embrace. "You're already thinking ahead, aren't you?" he teased gently, though his voice was thick with affection.
"Well, when that day comes, I have no doubt we'll make a great team. Just like we do now."
Jungkook smiled, her cheeks still warm as she glanced down at their intertwined hands. "You think so?" she asked, her voice soft.
"I know so," Taehyung replied, "I can already picture it—us, a little one, all those 'moments' you were talking about. It'll be perfect."
Jungkook's heart fluttered at his words, her eyes filled with love as she looked up at him. "I hope so," she whispered, squeezing his hand gently as they walked together, the future already beginning to take shape in both their hearts.
They walked on in comfortable silence for a while, the rain continuing to fall softly around them. Taehyung's presence, along with his gentle touch and reassuring words, made the evening feel warm and special despite the weather.
As they strolled down the rain-slicked street, the soft hiss of raindrops hitting the pavement was a comforting soundtrack to their conversation. Taehyung's umbrella provided a cosy shield against the weather, and the two walked close together, their shoulders occasionally brushing.
As they continued walking side by side, Jungkook didn't realize she had unknowingly taken the side closest to the traffic. The occasional car zipped by, their headlights illuminating the gentle rain, splashing puddles near the sidewalk. Lost in their quiet moment, Jungkook barely noticed the rushing vehicles.
But Taehyung did.
Without a word, he subtly moved closer to her, his fingers tightening around her hand for just a brief moment. Then, in one smooth go, he stepped behind her, guiding her to the inner side of the sidewalk as he placed himself between her and the road.
Jungkook blinked, looking up in surprise, her heart softening at his action. Taehyung didn't say anything; he didn't need to. His body language spoke volumes, the way he naturally shielded her from the passing traffic, his broad frame acting as a quiet protector.
Her gaze softened as she watched him, admiring the way he always took care of her. Taehyung's hand found its way back to hers, his thumb brushing lightly across her knuckles as they walked. She glanced down at their entwined fingers, feeling the warmth of his palm against hers, and smiled.
"Careful," Taehyung said softly, his voice carrying a gentle authority.
As he spoke, Jungkook felt a rush of nostalgia wash over her. This gesture reminded her of a moment from their past, a memory that made her heart flutter. She recalled a rainy day in high school, when Taehyung had offered her his umbrella, walking closely beside her, just as he was now.
A soft smile touched Jungkook's lips as she looked at Taehyung. "You know, this reminds me of when we were in school. There was a day it rained, and you offered to share your umbrella with me. You did the same thing then."
Taehyung's smile grew, his eyes crinkling with warmth. "I remember that day. I was so happy to be able to walk with you like that. It's one of my favourite memories."
Jungkook's cheeks flushed lightly, "It was one of mine too. It's moments like those that I treasure."
The rain fell softly around them, the pitter-patter filling the silence of the empty streets. Taehyung held the umbrella, but it barely seemed necessary now. The world around them was draped in a thin veil of mist.
Jungkook was nestled against Taehyung's chest, her head resting lightly against him. She could feel his warm body through the damp fabric of her dress. His arm wrapped around her waist, holding her close.
Taehyung glanced down at her, his eyes soft with affection. The rain had dampened his hair and a few wet strands clung to his forehead, adding a rugged edge to his defined appearance. His fingers gently stroked her back.
Jungkook looked up at him, her cheeks still flushed from the warmth of his embrace. Jungkook's fingers lightly traced patterns on Taehyung's shirt.
They walked on in comfortable silence, the rain continuing to fall gently around them. Every now and then, Taehyung would glance at Jungkook, a soft smile playing on his lips, as if he were savouring every moment of their togetherness. Jungkook, in turn, rested her head against his shoulder, feeling the pressure of his arm around her, and the world felt like a perfect, cosy embrace.
One evening
Taehyung was working and studying with a stiff nose, sniffling quietly as he tried to focus on the thick book laid out on his desk. He had been suffering from a cold for the past few days, and it was taking a toll on him, though he refused to let it slow him down.
His eyes were slightly red from exhaustion as he scanned through medical textbooks, his concentration broken every few minutes by the need to blow his nose or take a sip of warm water.
Taehyung's body was struggling. He rubbed his temples in frustration, feeling the sharp ache in his head from the cold and lack of sleep. His stiff nose made breathing uncomfortable, and every few minutes, he'd stop to sniffle or press a tissue to his face. He cleared his throat and wiped his teary eyes, picking up his pen, he began to note down the points.
Taehyung paused, his pen hovering just above the paper, when the faint clink of a cup being placed on the table caught his attention. His tired eyes slowly shifted from the notes scattered across his desk to the delicate hands that had placed the cup beside him. His gaze followed the soft movement, taking in the familiar moon charm bracelet that dangled from her wrist. His heart stirred when he looked up and saw Jungkook standing beside him, her beauty glowing in the soft lamplight.
"This ginger tea will help your cold come down," Jungkook said softly, her voice as gentle as the night breeze.
For a moment, Taehyung froze. He felt deja vu.
Seven years ago, when he was cramming for his NEET preparation, a similar gesture had tugged at his heartstrings. Back then, Jungkook had quietly asked Hana to make ginger tea for him, showing her care in hidden ways.
Today was different.
Today, it wasn't through someone else. It wasn't a gesture done from afar. Today, Jungkook was the one bringing him the tea. His wife, the love of his life, stood beside him, offering not just tea but the warmth and comfort of her presence.
His chest tightened with a rush of emotions. He smiled softly, his fingers reaching out to lightly brush against her wrist, feeling the cool metal of her bracelet beneath his touch.
"You remember," Taehyung spoke, "Seven years ago... it was ginger tea, just like this."
Jungkook blushed slightly, lowering her gaze as she tugged a strand of hair behind her ear. The memories made her smile because of her shy teenage self. She remembered how hana became the medium between them.
"How could I forget?" Jungkook whispered, her voice barely audible. "You were so focused, you wouldn't stop to take care of yourself. Some things never change, it seems."
Taehyung chuckled, his eyes still fixed on her as if he were seeing her for the first time all over again.
"Except now, it's different," he said, "Now you're here, right beside me."
Jungkook's heart fluttered at his words, her lips curving into a shy smile. She stood there for a moment, unsure of what to say. Taehyung took the cup of tea from the table and raised it to his lips, savouring the warmth it brought to his cold-ridden body.
the familiar taste of ginger soothed his throat, Taehyung's thoughts drifted back to those old days when Jungkook's silent care had been a comfort during the chaos of exam preparation. Now, Jungkook's care wasn't hidden; it was open, constant, and filled with the love of someone who shared every part of his life.
That simple cup of tea symbolized so much more to him now than it ever had before.
"Thank you," he whispered, his voice sincere as his eyes locked with hers, full of unspoken love.
Jungkook smiled again, the faintest blush dusting her cheeks as she quietly replied, "I'll always take care of you, Taehyung."
Jungkook stepped closer, her delicate fingers gently tracing over the edge of Taehyung's desk as she spoke. Her voice was soft, almost a whisper, as if afraid to disturb the quiet intimacy of the moment.
"Taehyung... you should get some rest," she said lovingly, her eyes filled with concern as they observed his tired face.
Jungkook tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear before her hand gently came to rest on his shoulder. Her thumb lightly brushed against the fabric of his shirt, a tiny gesture of care.
"You've been working too hard," Jungkook added, her tone was so soft like a cotton touch as if coaxing him gently from exhaustion.
Taehyung looked up at her, his eyes softening at the sight of her standing so close, her beauty radiating in the dim light. The way her hair cascaded over her shoulders, the soft curve of her lips, the way her fingers nervously fidgeted with the moon charm bracelet on her wrist—everything about her made his heart ache most beautifully.
Jungkook's other hand came up to touch his face lightly, her fingertips barely touching his skin as if she was afraid of breaking him. Taehyung leaned back in his chair, rubbing his eyes as he let out a tired sigh.
"I'm fine, love," he murmured, his voice slightly hoarse from the cold. He sniffed, his stiff nose making it harder to focus. "I still have a chapter to finish. I can't rest right now."
Jungkook stood beside him, watching with concern etched on her delicate features. Her fingers toyed with the edge of her sleeve, a habit she had when she was unsure. But she took a soft breath, her motive was clear as she moved closer.
"You've done enough for today," she whispered, very softly as if trying to coax a stubborn child.
"Your body needs rest, Tae," Jungkoo added, her voice barely above a whisper.
The warmth of her hand spread through him, calming in a way only she could manage. Taehyung glanced at her, his eyes tired but still resistant.
"I'll rest later, I promise," he muttered, his eyes already drifting back to the papers in front of him.
Jungkook, however, wasn't going to let him win that easily. She moved before him, blocking his view, and gently touched his cheek. Her thumb brushed over his skin in slow, calming strokes as she tilted her head, her soft gaze meeting his.
"Please, Taehyung... for me?" Jungkook whispered her voice filled with so much tenderness it made his heart skip.
Her eyes were wide and pleading, shimmering like the night sky, and Taehyung felt her care for him. His wife looked so soft, so beautiful standing there, with her lips slightly parted in a silent plea, her hair falling in gentle waves around her face.
"You always take care of me," Jungkook whispered, her voice sweet and soft. "Let me take care of you now."
Taehyung's resistance faltered when he saw the worry in her eyes. Jungkook wasn't pushing; she was simply there, asking him in the gentlest way possible.
Taehyung felt his chest tighten with affection. He reached up, covering her hand with his much larger one, giving it a gentle squeeze.
"Alright, I'll rest," Taehyung spoke. "Only because you asked so sweetly."
Jungkook's smile grew big, her fingers lingering on his cheek for just a moment longer before she gently removed her hand.
"Thank you,"
She brushed her fingers over his arm in a tender, absentminded motion before stepping aside. "Let me bring you a blanket," she added, her voice as light as the softest breeze, before quietly walking towards the other room.
Taehyung watched her go, feeling his heart soften. There was something about the way she moved, so graceful and delicate. Jungkook was beautiful in every little way, from the way she gently coaxed him to her tiny, nervous actions, and Taehyung couldn't help but feel grateful for the love they shared.
Jungkook moved back into the room and placed the blanket softly on the edge of the bed before coming to his side again.
Jungkook gently coaxed him to lie down, her hands smoothing over the blanket as she tucked it carefully around him. Every movement she made was tender, filled with care like she was handling something precious. She fussed with the blanket, making sure it covered him fully, her lips pursed in concentration.
Once he was comfortably settled, Jungkook took a step back, before she picked up the cup of tea. The delicate bracelet on her wrist chimed softly as she brought it to him.
"Here," she whispered, her voice as gentle as the night breeze. She kneeled beside the bed, lifting the cup to his lips.
"Drink this... it will help." Her fingers trembled just slightly as she adjusted her grip on the cup, her eyes flickering to his face to see if he would accept.
Taehyung's gaze softened as he held the cup and took a sip, the warmth of the ginger tea spreading through him, but what soothed him most was the sight of Jungkook—her soft, concerned expression, the way she watched him with those glassy doe eyes.
Jungkook smiled faintly when he drank, her shoulders relaxing a bit.
"That's it," Jungkook whispered, her voice filled with a soft pride as if she had won a small battle. Her thumb absentmindedly stroked the edge of the cup as she held it, her eyes focused entirely on him.
After he drank enough, she placed the cup down. Then, without a word, she reached out and brushed her fingers through his hair, soothing him into sleep.
Her touch was like the gentlest caress, soothing his tired mind. "Just rest now."
Taehyung's gaze, though heavy with fatigue, stayed on her. His eyes traced every small movement she made—how she adjusted the pillows beneath his head, how her fingers trembled ever so slightly as she tucked the blanket around him. She looked ethereal, like a dream he didn't want to wake from.
Taehyung's eyes fluttered shut, but he fought to open them again. He didn't want to miss the sight of her, so beautiful and loving. His heart ached with how much he loved her, how perfect she looked as she cared for him.
"You're... perfect," he mumbled, his voice thick with drowsiness.
Jungkook blushed at his words, her fingers twitching as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind his ear.
"Shh," she hushed him gently, her fingers brushing over his cheek one last time. "Just sleep, Tae."
But Taehyung, though on the brink of sleep, kept his eyes open just a little longer, watching her through the haze of his fatigue. Her soft, glowing presence was the last thing he saw before his eyelids finally gave in, and sleep took him.
Jungkook sat beside him for a moment longer, watching him sleep. She felt her heart swell as she looked at him, so peaceful and relaxed. Her fingers fidgeted with the edge of her dress, but a soft smile tugged at her lips. She leaned down, pressing a feather-light kiss to his forehead before quietly standing and leaving him to rest, not before adjusting the blanket.

Dear Diary,
Today was one of those days that reminded me how much has changed in my life.
Today taehyung came to pick me up and we walked home, the rain softly pattering around us. It was a chilly evening, with rain and cold winds.
Also, I saw a couple in the hospital—the woman was pregnant, and the way they looked at each other with so much love made me think about our future. I imagine what it would be like to have a little one of our own someday.
The thought of it made me smile.
Even during our busy lives, Taehyung always finds ways to show how much he cares. Tonight, as we walked, he instinctively moved to my side, shielding me from the rain, just like he did on that rainy day back in school. It's little things like this that remind me of how deeply he loves me.
Our life has changed so much—gone were the lazy mornings. Now, our days are filled with work and responsibilities. But in the quiet moments, like when we're sitting together after a long day, or when he takes the time to do something special, I realize that those changes have only made our bond stronger. I cherish these moments of simplicity, of being together and feeling at home with him.
I'm so grateful for him and the life we're building together.
Every day with Taehyung is a reminder of how lucky I am.
With love,
Koo
