SUMMARY :

The Burton family was one of wealth and perfection. They had been rolling around in old money,  passed down from generation to generation.  Only accumulating new money with the woman of the house,  Margery Burton,  being a fashion designer.  She was a well known name amongst many fashion icons and was religiously talked about in high selling magazines.  They had it all.  Fancy clothes,  fancy cars,  fancy furniture,  fancy homes,  and multiple children to continue the family legacy.  To the peering eyes,  they had a picture perfect life as a picture perfect family.  But,  pull back the curtain and you'll witness things you wished you hadn't seen.

Isla Burton is the eldest out of the five children Landon and Margery had,  being one out of the two that were biologically theirs.  The couple had high expectations for their eldest daughter,  putting her into etiquette classes and golf lessons when she began to walk.  They wanted her to be ready to take on the family legacy and become some well known woman that would bring more money into their grabby hands.  Isla had been obedient her entire life.  Memorizing which fork belonged on what side,  how to perfectly cook a chicken with only a pot and some seasoning,  where the place her hands when someone was talking to her,  how to dress properly,  and so on.  She did everything her parents wanted her to do without a single thought because that's what she was raised to do.  She had never stopped to think about the possibility of her not going along with her given identity within her family dynamic.  Never stopped to think about what she wanted to do.  Until two men appear at her door one night claiming to be mutants and that they needed her help in order to stop a potential war between the humans and mutants from happening.

— her name is pronounced EYE-LA

— Isla & her brother,  Parker,  are the only biological kids of Margery & Landon

— Isla is the only mutant in her family, please do not change that

— ^ her mutant ability is Density Manipulation. her abilities are a lot like Vision from the Avengers. she can manipulate her density so that nothing could penetrate her skin or she could walk through a wall. she can also do it the others as well as objects.

— she first discovered she was mutant at a friends party she attended during high school. someone had managed to break in after the party had finished. Isla was spending the night over at her friends and was cleaning up when it happened. the burglar had held up his gun & shot at Isla. she didn't feel anything & dismisses it as adrenaline after the police & EMT's came. they found the bullet lodged in the door of Isla's car that was parked in her friend garage (she had thrown away a trash bag & went through the garage). she later found out that she had the ability to manipulate her density.

— ^ it's more of an emotional thing at times. when the shooter had shot at Isla, she was afraid which caused her body to shift its density and become lighter / intangible, allowing the bulldog to go through her. when she is angry, her body will increase its density and become impenetrable.

— Isla never told her parents because they are extremely anti-mutants & very openly express it. Her mother funds a lot of companies that are publicly anti-mutant & that are trying to cure people of the X-gene / mutant gene

— ^ due to hiding her ability, it slips sometimes. she'll trip & fall on the concrete patio & wont have a scratch on her. she'd get into the shower & the water will go right through her. nobody catches on though, much to Isla's luck.

— her other siblings are adopted because her parents couldn't have anymore kids after Parker

— Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr are waiting outside of Isla's apartment door when she comes back from her job at her mother's company. like any other woman would react, she continued walking so they wouldn't know that that was her apartment & assault her on her way into her home.

— ^ they end up catching on pretty quickly, due to Charles telepathy and Erik stops her by sliding a small metal bucket that was laying out in front of her, causing her to trip. she manages to fall right through the floor and lands on the level below. the two men are quite shocked at how inexperienced Isla is with her powers & her inability to control them.

— ^^ Charles ends up telepathically speaking to her and explains their situation. she denies it at first and refuses their proposal.  she changes her mind after awhile,  not knowing exactly why

— brotp between her & Alex Summers!!!

— ^ their friendship trope would be a lot like 'Opposites Attract' or 'Anger Problems & the Level-Headed' type.  their friendship just makes sense

— ^^ Alex lovvveesssss to call her 'Barbie' just to get under her skin

— her & Mystique get on pretty well due to them being the only girls on the team,  after Angel had up & left them

— training for Isla is quite tricky.  her emotions often cause her mutant to occur so she has to keep that in check & be in control of when she is able to turn on her abilities as well as off

— ^ Charles being Charles,  replaces Alex's target mannikin with Isla,  killing two birds with one stone.  he hopes for Isla to shift her density in order for Alex's blast to go through her or bounce off of her & somewhere else.  as well as Alex learn how to aim correctly.

— ^^ both of my babies eyes pop out of their sockets just at the mention of replacing the mannikin with Isla.  ("If I die,  Professor.  I will come back and haunt you.  I swear on my grave."  "You're stepping on it."  "Shove it,  Summers!")

— ^^^ when Alex releases his blast, Isla ducks first, much to Charles dismay. for the second time, the blast goes right through her chest, making a huge burn mark on the wall behind her from its impact

— Isla & Hank's relationship starts off as a shy one. Like, it's painfully obvious to everyone around them that they are interested in each other but they're too shy to actually act on their feelings. Isla is interested in engineering & since Hank is a scientist, he offers to help her out with some stuff. She never really got to act on her interest because of her parents & their want for her to continue her mother's fashion line.

— during the night where they all get together and showcase their abilities & give each other aliases for on the field, everyone is torn between calling Isla 'Atom', 'Atomic', or 'Phase'. i personally like Phase but you can decide which one suits best

— ^ when Shaw shows up & kills Darwin, Isla's powers go crazy. she ends up tripping over the small coffee table & phases through it, solidifying after she's halfway through, shattering the table. she's on flight or fight at the moment & her mutation is quite literally showing how her body is reacting to it.

— ^^ everyone is so shaken up after,  it takes Isla a couple of hours to calm down

— when Hank becomes blue,  Isla's feelings don't change & she rather thinks it's funny/adorable. She tries to reassure him that no one thinks of him any differently & tells him that he was only trying to help Raven & it was a small accident that happened

— ^ she's a bit heart broken after seeing how Hank interacts with Raven & how he treats her at times.  But he still does like Isla, like a lot he just thinks that he won't have a chance with her

— Isla sobs when Charles becomes paralyzed.  This man has helped her with so much and to see him go through something like that is absolutely heart wrenching.  She feels so hopeless in the moment

— ISLA & HANK GET TOGETHER IN THE END!!!!!
