Chapter Three

"I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU TO KEEP AWAY!" Sullivan yelled at Julian. He turned his attentions to Pete and asked "HOW IS ALLOWING MY SON TO MAKE A FOOL OF HIMSELF ACCEPTABLE?! HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE MY SON, THE FUTURE OF THIS SHIP! HE WILL TAKE OVER FROM ME ONCE I AM GONE! YOU WERE CHARGED WITH LOOKING AFTER HIM!"

"Father, please, the fault was mine" Julian admitted.

"I'm aware of that but Pete was meant to keep an eye out, he was meant to look after you! I can't always look after you!"

"We managed to sell most of the wares. We should be ok for now, Captain" Rose replied. Her red hair was damaged and tied back with a ribbon and hidden using a neat bandana. Sullivan kept her because she was a great sailor and a great drinker. She could beat any man or woman in a drinking game.

"Finally, some good news, thank you Rose" Sullivan replied as he tied his hair back and put his hat on. He sighed a little bit and said "Pete, take my son to bed. Rose, steer us"

"Your father cares about you and that's why he's worried"

"I know that, he's just... strict and I was careful, I swear. I was careful, I swear and she didn't know... I was a pirate"

"Now she does you better be careful. We can't have people seeing your face, taking you hostage"

"If I was, father would have to stick to the code"

"Your father would find a way to get you back, something in the code. We both know what your father's like, boy, protective. He lost your mother; he's not going to lose his only son now"

"He could have other sons"

"No, not now, don't worry about a thing though, get some sleep. Soon we'll be out of this island and somewhere else, somewhere worth going to for an honest spot of pirating"

"No pirating is truly honest" Sullivan replied as he walked into his son's quarters. He looked down at his son and said "boy, I don't blame you for today. Some bastard sold us out and now he's swimming with the fish or swinging. Either way, he got what he deserved"

"Father, no one deserves death" Sullivan argued. Sullivan merely stood there and said "get some sleep, my son. Tomorrow the waters may not be as gentle"

"What are you saying?"

"Get some rest, son. I don't want to see you running about the ship"

"Why not, what's happening?"

"Just stay, my son, stay"

Why did his father wear such a frightened look on his face? What had he done so wrong? Was Julian bad? Did he do something wrong? He could only imagine what got his father so worked up, so frightened.

He climbed out of bed, sneaking a view as he watched a man, dripping wet as he stood, his presence immediately catching attention from Sullivan and his crew. He looked into Sullivan's eyes and asked "how is immortality treating you?"

"Fine, fair but why the visit? What have I done wrong?"

"Nothing as of yet but I heard you wish to host a meeting. Of course I have to wonder what is so important, you would ask for a meeting from the pirates who serve you"

"My intentions are strictly honourable. I was going to hold a meeting to stop their questions about releasing her. She shall be imprisoned forever, as our agreement stated. She shall never know the sea again in her old form and in return, I would be granted immortality"

"Do you intend to keep your side of the bargain and hold up your end?"

"I do, a promise is a promise"

"Good. I don't want her freed. She cannot be trusted; she'll destroy everything I've attempted to keep, everything I intend to keep in its place"

"I understand. A deal is a deal, I shall not go back on my word"

"Good for if you do, you and I know the punishment!"

"Yes, we do" Sullivan agreed calmly.

The man merely laughed and asked "how many times have you been hung? How many times have you been left there, unable to die?"

"Six times" Sullivan replied, questioning why.

"Yes, those six times... they will come back, to haunt you if you break our agreement. I will personally make you suffer all six plus whatever war wounds you would have died from. You will not die easily!"

"I understand that. Keep me alive and I will keep her imprisoned"
