Chapter 12: Nightmares
*Roman's POV*
When we got home Virgil told me I needed to tell my moms the truth along with everything that happened yesterday. So I did. They were concerned and a bit angry obviously but I assured them that Axel is probably not gonna mess with me anymore. Vee also said that if he did he'd just burn him again.
My main concern now is Remus. I need to find him. I called Thomas and told him what Logan told me and he said they'd search around the area.
Right now, Virgil and I are in the living room watching Moana. Virgil fell asleep before the end of How Far I'll Go. The movie had just ended when I heard Virgil mumble in his sleep.
Virgil: No... Please... Don't...
*Virgil's POV*
I was standing in the middle of a... garden? Except instead of bright colors, there was only black. Black roses, black tulips, pansies, petunias, lilies, everything.
I feel myself move forward, eyes set on a dark castle ahead of me. Where am I? Where's Ro? Where am I going? I reach the front doors of the castle and tighten my trip on my sword.
Sword?! Why do I have a sword?!
As I explore the castle, I eventually come to a wide room. A man and a woman in their late thirties are tied up around a pole along with a ten year-old girl. When they see me, their eyes widen and try to gesture for me to leave but I move on anyway.
???: I've been waiting for you Virgil.
From the other side of the room, a woman in a long black dress and a black crown with red rubies smirks at me from a throne.
???: Did you really think I'd leave them unsupervised like that? You're dumber then I thought.
I try to ask who she is but I'm not in control of my body.
Virgil: Just let them go.
???: Hmm... Nah.
She stands and raises a hand towards me. My sword is flung from my hands and I'm forced down to my knees. Straining against invisible forces, I force myself to speak.
Virgil: What do you want from us?
She scoffs and walks over to where my sword landed.
???: Your kingdom is in my way. And you won't listen to reason, so I had to take matters into my own hands.
Virgil: Reason?! You killed hundreds of my people!
???: And yet, you wouldn't listen! All I wanted was to take over as Queen. If anything, I was doing you a favor. You would never have to rise to the throne. You could live your own life.
She picks up my sword and examines it.
???: Ungrateful really... oh well. It's too bad, you don't even know what you're capable of.
Capable of? What is she talking about?
???: By the way, this is excellent craftsmanship. I'll have to hunt down the blacksmith who made this...
Virgil: Don't change the subject! What do you really want from us?
???: Don't you listen? I said I'm taking matters into my own hands. If that means killing the entire royal family, so be it.
She waves the sword around a few times then jabs at the air like she's sparring with someone. The invisible forces that were holding me suddenly tighten and it's hard to speak.
Virgil: No... Please... Don't...
???: Pleading isn't gonna get you anywhere young prince.
With one last wave of my sword, she smiles and starts walking to the people who are tied up.
My... family?
???: Wouldn't that be ironic? The sword that killed the entire royal family belonged to none other then Milena's own Prince Virgil! Then he himself was brought to an end by the same blade!
Virgil: No!
??: Virgil! Wake up!
Roman? But that doesn't make sense, he's not here.
The mystery girl raises the sword to the little girl, and I yell out with such power it's like a bottle of anger in me just broke.
Virgil: NO! DON'T HURT THEM! I'LL DO ANYTHING JUST LEAVE THEM ALONE!
Roman: VIRGIL WAKE UP!
I snap my eyes open and I'm back in the living room. The movie menu playing on the TV and Roman sitting across from me, hands on my shoulders holding me upright.
Roman: Virgil! I've been trying to wake you up for the past half hour!
I can see tears building up in his eyes and he pulls me into a hug.
Roman: You were mumbling, then crying, then screaming and I... I was really worried. You wouldn't wake up you...
He cuts himself off and tightens the hug. Finally back to reality, I hug him back.
Though... I guess this isn't actually reality. I can't actually hug Ro, no matter how much I want to.
Virgil: Ro... I know this isn't real but-
Roman: This is real Vee. I don't know how, this happened the other day too, but it is real.
The other day... that wasn't a dream? This is real? Like actually real?
Virgil: Its... nice.
Roman: Yeah, it is.
We stay like that, eventually moving to lay on the couch, but we never break the hug. This is the most comfortable I have ever been in my whole life. I'm about to drift off to sleep again when Roman speaks up.
Roman: Do you wanna talk about it? Your dream I mean.
Virgil: The details are scattered but, basicly, there was this weird magic queen lady? Who was sent on killing three people she had tied up in a corner. She kept calling me a prince and that she has to kill the whole royal family cuz we were in her way.
Roman: She sounds like a typical movie villian. It was probably-
He yawns and snuggles into my chest.
Roman: -just a bad dream. Everything is safe here...
It felt more like a very vivid bad memory. I would tell Roman this but he's clearly about to fall asleep.
Roman: I think you'd be a great prince though.
Virgil: I don't know about that. You'd be perfect, you've ruled enough kingdoms when you were a kid.
Roman: Mmm... we can rule together how's that?
I laugh and comb my fingers through his hair. (Note to self: Roman's hair is really soft. Not that that's important or anything...)
Virgil: Sounds great Princey.
He stays quiet and his breathing evens out. He's asleep.
Me? An actual prince? I don't think so. Were the other people actually my parents and sister? Who was the magic chick? And why did she want my kingdom? She looked like she had one of her own.
Maybe Roman was right... maybe it was just a dream... but I guess it doesn't matter right now.
I let myself drift back to sleep still holding Roman tightly, and thinking about what it would be like if we ruled together...
*Deceit's POV*
Deceit: What if I asked my father to teach me a masking spell?
???: That could work, but I don't think he will. Your father doesn't exactly like me you know.
Deceit: That's only because you don't have your demon mark. Once you do I'm sure he'll be more hospitable.
???: Well at this rate, I'm never getting it! Then I'll die and not become a ghost because I don't have it and I won't get a blessing cuz neither of your parents like me.
I cut off his rambling and pull him into a comforting hug.
Deceit: Love, everything will be fine. You'll be ok.
He wraps his arms around me and nuzzles into my neck.
???: Dee, you and I both know I don't have long. And neither does he.
Deceit: I still say you should talk to him.
???: I can't. It'd be cruel to do that to him... after all this time... It has to be this way.
I sigh and rub his back.
Deceit: Whatever you wish, Love.
Heyyy!
I know this chapter is shorter again but it's just what happened.
Anyways, homework sucks but at least I'll get chicken nuggets out of it.
