Let me help you

The next day Tristan was awake before everyone. He was surprised and relieved to see his mother and strangers outside the inn. He moved close to the crib and smiled when he saw the gurgling baby occupying itself with staring at the lightening sky. He noted a dwarf and three elves. He moved toward the older looking male elf who had a crown of wood and small yellow and white flowers.

It rested beside him and the dark haired lady in his arms. He picked up the crown and placed it on his head. He stiffled the giggles as it went right past his head go rest on his collarbone. He maneuvered tthe crown to rest at an angle on his head.

He tried to walk around regally. He even made faces at the small babe. She and she was obviously a girl gurgled happily. He hated being up so early. He wondered if he could wake the dwarf. Or perhaps the younger elf the older one whose crown he consequently wore was very stern looking.

His mother looked far too tired to wake. He moved toward the dwarf grasping a stick along the way. He proceeded go poke the dwarf to waken him.  He had never meet a dwarf before. He would much like to talk with him.

After poking the dwarf rather harshly he took cover as he came awake with a yell. He hid behind a fallen log. He glanced over and smiled warily at the dwarf who glared at him. When his glare became a smile he let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh laddie your awake. I didn't know. I suspect a young lad like you is bored and hungry." he said rising to his feet.

"Yes Mister dwarf I am. Im sorry I woke you but you seemed to be the nicest here to wake."

"Call me Gimli lad and its no trouble come and let us start breakfast."

Elaine woke to the smell of pork roasting and some kind of bread. She woke to find Gimli and her son moving about the campsite fire cooking breakfast. She smiled at how happy he seemed though she frowned when she saw Thranduil's crown atop his head.

"Tristan what have you done wrong?" she asked getting up to her feet and stretching languidly.

"Um nothing that I know of well except poking Gimli with a stick to wake him." he said a look of deep thought on his face. until he caught Gimli looking pointedly at the crown on his head.

"Oh I took the mean elfs crown." whenhe saw his mothers pointed look at describing Thranduil he backtracked. " Well not mean so much as er stern" he corrected quickly.

Elaine smiled and reached out her arms to hug her son. He rushed into them. How long had it been? She kissed his cheek and then took the crown off his head.

"It doesn't suit you as well as it does Thranduil m. He is a king after all." she placed the crown back where it had been.

"Yes mamma."he turned to help Gimli cook.

"After Gimli doesn't need you we will go bath. It been a while for both of us judging by both our appearances." Elaine said to her son.

"Yes mamma. Mister Gimli do you need my help anymore?" he asked.

"No lad carry on and go bath. I will see that your share is saved for you." he promised the lad.

Elaine took her sons hand and went to their small chest and pulled out their clothes. The clink of her medallion hitting the bottom made her find it. She had never worn it before and yet she had no reason not to now. It was a beautiful simmering stone. A moonstone shaped like circle. The circle was wider than it was tall. And was framed with a ring of dark silver that had tarnished with age.

Another metal piece came down in very fine mesh to cover the top of the stone. It connected with the ring around the stone and it connected the stone to the chain. It was obviously of Elven make. And it had been a token from her father to her mother.

She took it with her as she bathed. She had little trouble little trouble out of Tristan. And if they hadn't  been connecting mentally all these years the situation would have been much more awkward. She let him splash and play. When she heard movement in camp she dressed and bid him to get out.

She dressed in a brown and cream dress and a shawl. He hair was braided hastily down her back. Tristan wore a white tunic and black leggings. She walked back to camp and rifled through the chest to find her brush. It wasn't there.

So as Tristan ate she pulled her fingers through his hair. Trying not to hurt him. She felt a touch on her shoulder halfway through to see Legolas with a comb.

"I know a brush is more desired but you may use my comb." he said simply. His blue eyes far warmer than most elfs had her nodding.

She combed her sons hair and then tried braiding some of it out of his face.

"Mamma I want braids like Legolas. " he said.

"This are Elvish braids I don't know how to make those." she said noting his despondency.

"Come here Tristan and I will braid your hair." Legolas called

She smiled thankfully at him as she tried to eat as much as she could and comb her hair into order. She had put the medallion on and and its warmth gave her comfort.

"May I braid your hair?" Legolas asked suddenly beside her.

"It is fine I will just keep mine as it is. Here is your comb."

*************★***************

As they packed up to leave Legolas was glad to see Gimli keeping the active boy busy. It seemed the dwarf had a new friend. Elaine was working steadily to pack all things up. She asked for no help unless absolute nessicity demanded it.

'Will you not allow me to help you?'

He reasoned it was because of her trauma. They all settled into the saddle and laughed when Tristan rode before Gimli on his pony.

"Alright laddie I shall teach you how to drive the thing."

"After that can you teach me to grow a beard?" He asked.

"Ask your mother son." Gimli answered hastily.

"Momma can I grow a beard like Mister Gimli? Please mamma?" he asked.

"We will see when you get older." she said smiling sweetly at her son and the dwarf.

" How old is older?" he asked.

"Oh atleast 200 son" she said

So the questions went on until Thranduil pucked the boy up and told him the story of dragons he had fought. That kept him occupied for quite a while.

Legolas knew that this would be the start of an interesting time in his families life. These two would bring new meaning to them all. He felt this deep within himself.

Miles away in Lothlorien Galadriel woke from her sleep. She sat up from her dreams the burning in her chest intense. Her brother long dead was felt once more. Something of his. A sword he had made a bow was found once more. Perhaps it was his suspected child that they had never been able to find.

'I must find her!' She thought.
