Forty Five

Kim Taehyung hummed to himself as he gradually packed Jimin's things in a bag. He thought about how their lives would be like from now on. They would have to give up their wealth, live like normal people, probably live in want sometimes but it would all be worth it as long as they were together. He opened Jimin's first drawer and saw the divorce paper on top of a bunch of documents. He hissed crumpling it between his hands and throwing it to the ground before continuing with what he was doing not even sparing it another glance.

He stopped suddenly when he gazed at the familiar black box with rimmed edges containing the wedding rings. He gingerly took it out and opened it gasping as he beheld the wondrous beauty of the rings. It was smaller than the other because Jimin had fatter fingers than him.

He was just about to wear it on his finger when his phone began to ring. Absently, he put the ring inside his Jean pocket and walked towards his phone lying on the bedside table. He sighed heavily when he saw the contact number. It was his father. Kim Taejun.

He ignored the call and tossed the phone onto the bed before resuming his humming again. The phone stopped ringing for a while before it started again. Again, he looked at the contact number. Still his father.

He rolled his eyes and continued folding clothes into Jimin's bag. The ringing stopped abruptly and Taehyung thought perhaps the man had given up when he heard a message beep from his phone. He took his phone and looked into the screen.

Incoming message

Somehow, his heart hammered in his chest. He had a numb feeling that something wasn't right. He gulped slowly as he opened the message and read it's blunt content.

Come out. I'm right outside

He dropped the phone like he had been hit by a bolt of electricity. There was no way his father had found them. Jimin said this place was safe. He rushed to the window and looked outside. He could see it. His father's jeep with its tinted windows.

Sweat began to form on his face and neck. Anxiety crept over him as he began to curse his luck. Why now? Why did it have to be now? Another message came in and Taehyung ran to pick up his phone with trembling hands.

Kim Taehyung come out right now. You are testing my patience.

At that, his heart raced wildly. He thought of what his father would do to him and decided he could escape but there was no escaping Kim Taejun once he catches him. He probably had the entire house surrounded. Shaking tremendously, he tried to calm down a little before leaving the house.

The air was cold seeping into his bones as the sun was slowly going down and darkness settling in. One of his father's guards was beside his car. He bowed at Taehyung as he approached and opened the door for him to enter.

This was a dream. A dream. That was what he kept repeating to himself over and over as he entered and sat beside his father who hadn't even looked at him. The door closed and that was when Kim Taejun finally turned and gave him a piercing look. A look that haunted him, gave him nightmares. He was shaken to his core unaware of how to begin. He finally mustered the courage to speak.

"App..."

He hadn't finished talking when he felt a strong jab to his cheek, so strong, he thought he had broken a tooth.

"Disgrace!" his father spat before smiling cynically. Taehyung held his cheek staring at him.

"Did you think I wouldn't find you?" he drew out, venom lacing his tongue.

He continued "I will find you Taehyung. Even if you run to the ends of the earth" he snarled.

He didn't know how but something snapped inside him and he looked back at his father with as much coldness as he could muster.

"Why? Why can't you just leave me alone?" He whispered and Kim Taejun looked surprised as he sat taken aback by his audacity.

"You always say that I'm a disgrace, that you hate the fact that you gave birth to me. If that is the case, why don't you leave me alone? Let me be!"

The surprised look in Kim Taejun's eyes vanished and he smiled smugly.

"Well isn't that obvious? I didn't have any more children. Therefore, you are the only one who can make my dreams come true"

"Then you should have remarried and had more" Taehyung grumbled under his breath. He expected another slap but something else flashed in his father's eyes.

"Being there and done that. Never doing it again" he whispered and Taehyung was lost. He didn't understand what he just muttered. His father continued, his sullen countenance gone.

"Anyway, the thing is you are my only child unfortunately and I have spent years training you, preparing you to take over from me when the time is right but then you went and fell in love with the son of my worst enemy..."

He crumpled his face tightly as confusion passed through it.

"I don't get it. You told me you were done with him, that you couldn't believe you had foolishly married him. Then what is this?"

Taehyung took a deep breath "I love him Appa. It is what it is. You can't choose when you love someone even when that person turns out to be the son of your father's worst enemy"

Kim Taejun glared at Taehyung, disbelief rounding his eyes

"You dare talk back at me? How could you be so daring talking nonsense...."

Anger flashed in Taehyung's eyes as he groaned in frustration.

"I'm tired Dad, I'm tired of you controlling my life. I'm an adult and I can do whatever the hell I please. You can't tell me what to do anymore. I don't understand why you people are dragging us into this war you both started even before we where born. Are you kids? Why can't you settle yourselves like adults and leave us the hell out of it!"

A loud deafening slap reached his cheeks and for the first time, he saw tears in his father's eyes.

"Shut up! You know nothing!" he screamed so hard, Taehyung thought his ear drums would burst.

Taehyung looked at his father. He looked vulnerable shaking like that. He blinked severally stopping the tears from spilling and at that moment, Taehyung was curious about what most have happened between him and Park hye sun all those years ago.

"You know nothing Taehyung. Sometimes I want to forget but when I look into the mirror and I see this scar"

He pointed to his cheek as he breathed heavily "I remember why I can never forget!"

The vulnerable look in his eyes suddenly disappeared replaced with an evil smirk.

"Somehow, I had the feeling you were going to be stubborn so I prepared a little something"

All these while, Taehyung hadn't noticed the laptop in his father's lap. The man slowly opened it, a ghostly smile on his lips and that was when Taehyung saw a video. His eyes nearly popped out when he saw Jimin with Hani, Mrs Han and Mina. He was holding Mina in his arms smiling happily.

Taehyung felt like he would faint.

"What is that?"

Kim Taejun chuckled. "It's the love of your life with a nice looking happy family"

Taehyung couldn't breathe.

"I had Jackson follow him. He even followed those clueless friends of yours. That was how I found out where you are and now, I won't hesitate to end his life and that pretty family over there if you don't do what I want"

Taehyung shook his head tears falling down his eyes. He couldn't believe what was happening. He knew his father very well. He always keeps to his threats.

"Please...don't do this"

Kim Taejun laughed. "You know me Taehyung. You know what your father is capable of, so I'm going to count to five. If you don't do what I want, I'm going to kill them all"

Several things passed through Taehyung's mind as his father started his countdown. He called Jackson and began counting into the phone.

"One... Two... Three... Four...Fi..

"Okay! Okay! I'll do whatever you want, please just stop. Don't hurt them" Taehyung cried, snot running down his nose.

His father smiled closing the laptop.

"You can stop now Jackson!" He said into the phone and cut the line. He looked at Taehyung who just sat there staring at him coldly.

"You're a monster!" he whispered.

"Now Now Taehyung my son. You have always known the kind of person I am now wipe your face. You look disgusting!" he said throwing a white handkerchief at him as he scowled.

Taehyung began to dab at his eyes and nose ridding himself of the snot and tears. Seeing that he was calmer, Kim Taejun smiled to himself.

"Now that I have your attention, you are going to do the following things"

He cleared his throat

"You will make sure that Jimin signs the divorce paper and then you will come back home and marry Jisoo as soon as possible. Your wedding will take place next week"

Taehyung was aghast "What? But it will take a while before the court processes the divorce"

"I don't care. No one else knows about your secret marriage apart from us, the Parks and those friends of yours. So you better do as I say"

Taehyung sighed in defeat "Okay Dad but know this, I'm not doing this because I fear you. I'm doing this because I want to save the man I love from you"

"How touching...."Kim Taejun said sarcastically. "But you should also know this, if you go against me, I will shed blood and I will not care about the consequences...even if it means hurting you"

He stopped for a while grinning before he continued "Do you know why? It's because I hate the Parks more than I love my ambition"

With that, he gestured to him to leave the car. Taehyung got out and watched with a heavy heart as the car drove off. Slowly, he dragged his legs into the house. He collected the divorce paper from the ground, smoothened it and sat on the dining table waiting for Jimin to return. It wasn't long before he heard him enter the house calling out to him.

His heart was bleeding especially when he saw Jimin stop right in front of him and stare at the paper with confused eyes.

"Tae... What is this?"

His voice was low, desperate.

"It's the divorce paper... I want you to sign it"

He couldn't believe how easily those words rolled out of his mouth but nothing could prepare him for the heartbroken look in Jimin's eyes.

The older scoffed.  "Is this some sort of joke? Please stop it. It's not funny"

He stood up hoping he looked serious. "This isn't a joke Jimin. I thought about this long and hard and i came to the conclusion that I'm not in love with you after all!"

Jimin couldn't speak. He just gaped at him.

"I thought I could delude myself into falling in love with you after everything you did for me. You took care of me and all. You where nice and so determined to gain my affection. I guess i only felt pity for you after all not love. I can never bring myself to really fall in love with you"

Lies. All lies

Jimin looked the definition of broken as he stared back at him. "Taehyung what has gotten into you? Why are you saying these things to me?"

Taehyung gulped. "Because it is true and I realized that I will never be happy with you. Sure, we will live a fairy tale life for the first few years and then the reality of my mistake will set in and I will hate you for taking me away from the life I was used to"

"You'll hate me?" Jimin whispered getting teary eyed.

Taehyung nodded. "Yes, Jimin I'll hate you so it's better we end all these fantasies right now"

Tears where flowing down the older's eyes now and Taehyung looked away from him so he wouldn't get weak.

"You want to go back to your father? You want to marry Jisoo and divorce me?"

He moved towards him but Taehyung flinched and Jimin cried "Tae, you'll kill me. I can't live without you...Don't leave me please"

Taehyung couldn't bear to hear the brokenness in his voice, couldn't bear to see the hurt in his eyes but he remembered his father's threat and knew he had to do this even if it breaks him in pieces.

"It's over Jimin. You tried but it didn't work. We have to get back to reality"

Jimin's voice was shaky. "Will you really be happy if I do this?"

Taehyung simply nodded

A loud car honk was heard from outside.

"My cab is here. Hurry up so I can leave" he said trying his best to sound cold and detached. He tried to hold back his tears when he saw the defeated look in Jimin's eyes as he slowly took the pen and finally scribbled on the paper. He had done it. He had signed on it. They were really over.

Taehyung swiftly snatched the paper and folded it placing it in his bag.

"I'm sorry Jimin. I'm sorry for putting your hopes up. I hope we never meet again after this. It's for both our sakes"

A part of him was telling Jimin what he really wanted to say but Jimin wasn't looking at him anymore. His eyes was fixed on nothing and he was quiet. Too quiet. He wasn't even crying anymore, not even talking as he sat on a chair like a controlled robot.

"Okay then, goodbye!" Taehyung whispered and dashed out without another glance because if he stayed any longer, he would be tempted to hold him in his arms and tell him the truth, risking both his lives. He ran into the cab waiting for him and let his emotions take over him as he sniffed with tears uncontrollably startling the driver who continuously looked at him through the rear view mirror shaking his head in pity.

Meanwhile Jimin stared into nothingness. He was tired so tired of everyone. He was shocked also. Too shocked to even speak or beg Taehyung. One minute, they had reconciled. They were hopelessly in love ready to runaway and leave everything behind. The next....he couldn't even think about it or he would do something foolish. His eyes roamed the table till it came to focus on a certain familiar black box. He slowly opened it and smiled sadly when he saw that there was only one ring left there.

This chapter was really a challenge to me. I do believe that true love should come with a lot of challenges. It can't always be rainbows and sunshine. There will always be hurdles and if you're able to overcome them, that's when you know it's real and it makes your relationship much more sweeter when everything is finally over so with that, I wish you good bye until the next time. Love you all.
