XXXI.
"What I am saying is that we need to have security with us each time we go out." Kaden said. "You heard what Grace Kelly said about Dr. Stevenson wanting to kill Ella by the order of The boss. Annie's wanted by the police. I was almost killed in the parking lot today."
Will pinched the bridge of his nose as he watched the nurse dress Kaden's gunshot wound. If he didn't know better, he would have thought it was all a coincidence, but judging by what they've gone through in the past ten years, he knew they were being hunted by someone.
The question now was who and why this person was after them.
"You're right." Steve said. "I will call the bodyguard agency to see if we can get undercover bodyguards at such to short notice. Excuse me." He left the room, tapping on the screen of his phone as he went.
Arabella rubbed a hand over her face, looking more older than she actually felt. "I thought all this was over and we could finally be happy. But I guess I was wrong."
Will moved to pull their mother into his arms, while we wrapped her arms around his waist. Cassie was still with Ella and didn't know her husband was shot at Kaden's insistence. They were afraid she might go into shock or worse when she was still strung about Ella's death and resurrection experience.
"Everything is going to be okay, mother." Will soothed. "We overcame our problems over the years even when it was tough, and this too shall pass."
Arabella shook her head. "Something tells me that something terrible is going to happen very soon. And it would affect us all." She pulled away from his embrace. "Have any of you gotten across to Annie? I have been trying to reach her since yesterday, but her phone's out of service."
Kaden met William's gaze. "No. And I don't know if Cassie did. You can ask her."
"I'm worried about her." Arabella said. "What if something had happened to her? She's too far away from home and I want her here."
Will nodded. "I will keep trying to call her. You should go home and rest, mother. You too,Kaden. I will call you if there's any change in Ella's condition."
Steve walked back in,his phone in hand. "I spoke with the head of the agency and they promised to send six bodyguards tonight. Two would be stationed outside Ella's door while the four would be at home with us."
"That's good. But we also have to keep an eye out and mind what we do." Kaden said with a wince when the nurse tightened the bandage around his arm and secured it with a pin. "We also have to keep an eye on the children."
The nurse gave his arm a pat. "It's all done, sir. You have to come back tomorrow for the redressing and if you're feeling any pain take pain killers. And if that did not stop the pain come back to the hospital."
"Okay."
William helped Kaden down from the bed and helped him slip his good hand into his shirt sleeve. Then he waited until the nurse left before starting towards the door.
"Be careful,Will." Arabella said from behind them. "Honey, did you by any chance get a call from Annie?"
Steve shook his head with a frown. "No. That girl is so reckless. I always warned her about moving around and not always taking things seriously, now see what she did to herself?"
William threw a glare his father's way. "Don't speak about her that way, father. Annie's still young. Besides, there's nothing wrong with exploring the world."
"It's because you support her in her stupid childish dreams she's this way." Steve scowled. He waited until they were in the elevator before speaking again. "She went to one of the best business school in America, graduated with honors and have nothing to show for it. All she does is prance around with brain-haired thoughts."
Kaden's lips twisted down. "She went to business school because you wanted her to. Did you ever think of asking her about what she really wanted?"
"What she wants isn't important. What's important is carrying on the family's legacy. The company. That's what a girl should do, not fantasize about romance and matchmaking."
Will gritted his teeth. "Do you hear yourself? Your daughter's happiness means nothing to you?" He scoffed. "I can't believe this."
"What do you know about taking care of daughter's?" Steve jabbed. "You neglected yours when they needed you the most. And not only that, but you also killed your unborn child and almost killed your wife!"
"Father!" Kaden bit out through his teeth. "That's enough."
Steve snorted. "Of course, I am the bad person. Why don't I let my sons and daughter disrespect me,huh?"
"That's enough,Steve." Arabella said. "Not another word from the both of you either. What's wrong with you all? Ella's still unconscious. Annie's out of reach and some crazy person is after us, and all you can think of doing is fighting like a bunch of kids. I don't believe you!"
"But-" Steve started to speak but was cut off by Arabella.
"Not another word,Steve." She said quietly. "Please."
The rest of the ride continued without another word from both parties.

"Ella? Ella can you hear me?"
Ella groaned trying to fight away the urge to fall back under. She felt sluggish, like she was pumped with some type of drug to her eyeballs. They felt heavy, like they had been tapered down to his face.
"El? Can you hear me?" The familiar voice coaxed again. "Can you open your eyes?"
Ella tried, really tried to open her eyes, but they felt like a rock was sitting on them. With every ounce of her will, Ella flashed her eyes open, only catching a glimpse of white light and dark shadows. Her eyes lids felt like lead and, God, her whole body ached like she had just been ran over by a bus.
"El, that's it! Open your eyes."
Ella groaned. Couldn't Cassie turn down the volume of her voice down a bit. It made her temple pound and her head ache. It roared through her ears sounding painful and warped.
"Too loud." She croaked. She heard laughter in reply- it sounded happy and relieved. Which confused her for a bit. Did something happen that she wasn't aware of? Sleep was dragging her under again. " Feel s' tired." She murmured before falling back unconscious.
The next time she woke up, the weight against her eyelids felt lighter. But her head still throbbed with pain.
"Ella?" Cassie queried, her voice thankfully quiet this time.
"Ca. . . Cassie?" Jesus H. Her mouth felt drier than a dessert. It was as if her tongue and throat had been sandpapered.
"Shhh, here. Sip this."
Ella felt something springy being pressed against her lips. She let the straw in and took a tentative sip. The water was cold and slipped roughly over her tongue. She took another sip, using her tongue to push the liquid around her mouth until it was slick and less dry. The tiny amount of water she took sat heavily in her stomach and suddenly made her feel sick. She quickly let go of the straw and turned her head.
"Hey, baby." Will's head appeared next to Cassie's overhead and Ella couldn't help but smile.
"Hi." She whispered. For a moment she let her eyes drift shut, fighting sleep, but then she forced them open and looked up. "What happened?"
"You died, Ella." Cassie told her. "Twice."
"W-what?!" Her words came out more quiet than intended, but there was still traces of panic in them.
Will carefully reached for her hand. "Don't panic, okay?"
She managed a nod in their direction.
Cassie bit her lips as tears welled up in her eyes. "You lost your baby after you were brought to the hospital and was in coma for days. Meanwhile, a doctor was assigned to you alongside a nurse named Grace Kelly." She took a deep breath to calm her juggled nerves. "Dr. Stevenson had been injecting you with sedatives to keep you unconscious. He planned to kill you."
William continued where she left off, seeing how shaky she was becoming with each words. "But Grace was not okay with the sedatives and she tried to help you. Dr. Stevenson was choking her when you stabbed him in the neck with a syringe filled with the sedative she was supposed to inject you with. Then she fell you to the floor and started having a seizure. The doctors arrived and tried to revive you, but. . ." he closed his own eyes as he fought back the tears threatening to spill.
"You died." Cassie finished with a sob. "You died,Ella. When we came in they were about to pack your body and call your time of death, but then your heart started beating, only for you to die again. I watched you die again."
"Hey." Ella made a feeble attempt to grab her hand, but Cassie ended up grabbing hers instead. "It's okay. I-i'm alive. Even though I feel like shit n-now."
Cassie laughed wetly. "The doctor called your time of death for the second time when your heart restarted itself again. And Will, well, he didn't take that well at all. I think the relief was too much for him because he passed out immediately."
"I brained myself on the floor big time." Will rolled his eyes.
"Will!" Cassie slapped his chest.
"What?!" Ella started to sit up in panic, but four hands shot out immediately to hold her down. "Are you alright?"
"Whoa!" Cassie cried, pushing her right shoulder back firmly to the pillow. "He's fine, Ella. Don't get up yet."
"I should get the doctor." William said when the heart monitor began to accelerate again. "Stay with her, Cassie."
Cassie brushed Ella's fringe away fr her face. "Calm down, Ella. I didn't see you wake up to see you die again. Aggy and Tina have been asking to see you, and I can't bring them to see your dead body."
"I-i'm just worried."
"Don't be. We're all fine." Cassie smiled when she saw that her eyes was slowly drifting shut. "If you want to sleep, honey, then go ahead. I'll be here when you wake up."
"I feel so sore and sick." Ella admitted as she her eyes slowly slid shut.
Cassie leaned forward and pressed a kiss on her forehead. "Sleep then."
"Stay?"
"I'm not going anywhere," she replied linking their fingers together and smiling when Ella curled her fingers around hers before slowly going lax.
I apologize for this short shitty chapter. I was feeling sad when I wrote this. But the rest of the chapters are better I promise.
