Dedicated to the amazing sonderingly since her 'Sea Salt' was so beautiful. I mean, how is it so short yet painfully beautiful? And the ending was perfect >.<

It wasn't raining or anything today. Today we had a little "express your music" session and let me tell you, I totally embarrassed myself. I mean, yeah, I'm half decent at playing the the Trumpet. But the mere thought of Scarlett sitting along with the other students and hearing me play my piece was more than nerve wracking.

"Shin... what happened?" our music instructor asked when I finished playing. She looked so worried.

"I— I was um, nervous," I stuttered like a fool and this seemed to make my instructor even worried.

Well yeah, as hard as it seems, everyone always described me as the goofy charmer. Key word, charmer.

How I'd love to charm her.

"Well not your best performance, Shin..." she said, "Okay, Macey, you're up."

And the day proceeded with us performing our favourite pieces.

Even though Scarlett's piece was fantabulous, Shawn was the boss on today's music class.

As we were walking out from the building, I grinned at my best friend, nudging him playfully. "You were totally cool on the podium, bro."

"Well you too would've rocked it if you weren't too busy drooling over Miss I-have-a-mouth-which-is-too-precious-to-utter-words," he said sarcastically, which surprisingly (well actually not) kick started my defensive mode.

"Maybe she feels like an outsider," I defended Scarlett. "Remember? She's the new girl."

"Dude, it's been weeks since she came!" Shawn muttered clearly annoyed, "I don't think the new kid stays 'new' for more than four weeks."

What was his problem? Why is he getting this annoyed with just the mention of Scarlett? It was a new sight to see the sensible, composed Shawn, annoyed. Because as far as I know, my best friend from when I was three was never one to judge.

"You don't like Scarlett," I stated.

"Duh."

"Why?"

"Because she's annoying."

"And why's that?"

"I just do."

I sighed.

From the side of my eye, I saw Shawn open his mouth then close it. He repeated this for a good five times before I chuckled.

"What?" I asked, the grin evident on my voice.

Shawn let out a resigned sigh and pulled me in a head lock, punching me hard on the stomach and though it hurt, I wheezed out half swallowed laughs.

"I just feel worried for you, okay?" He said loudly, releasing me from the head lock.

"And why would you?" I asked amused.

"Scarlett."

He said that one word with so much dislike and discomfort that my smile faltered.

"Dude, what's with you hating Scar for no reason?"

"You behave like a effing fool in front of her and she hardly glances at you. What happened to dignity, Shin? I know you are head over heels for that arrogant chick but please, don't shake your imaginary tail so much in her presence. It looks so pathetic."

I looked at him with wide eyes before slowly his words sunk into me and I started laughing, slowly at first but then full fledged, until I was clutching my sides and cackling like a hyena.

Shawn looked at me with irritation and I gave him my trademark goofy grin.

"Aawww," I cooed, "Who knew little Shawny had a crush on Shin? Looks like someone is jelly!"

I mockingly shrieked like a high school girl on a sugar rush making Shawn to roll his eyes and walk faster, ditching me.

I jogged up behind him.

Though I was in a mood to make fun of Shawn, truth be told, he was the only one who can put up with my shit and I seriously don't want to lose my bro. So I answered him seriously. Well as serious as I can get.

"I love Scar—"

"You're a retard," he interrupted.

"Shawn! I'm trying to sound serious for once in my whole life so please don't interrupt me."

"Go on," he said with a bored expression.

"I love her because... because she's everything I can ask for. Something about her draws me in... like a moth to flame. She's intriguing."

"The Bermuda Triangle, Black Hole and other things are intriguing too. You don't love them."

"Ha ha, very funny, dude. Very funny that I forgot how to laugh," I said sarcasm dripping my tongue.

And not waiting for his typical Shawn like  retorts (that is, lame retorts), I started talking again.

"I know what you're implying. I know literally nothing about her other than her name and that she plays the flute, but I seriously like her. And yeah, she doesn't acknowledge my presence at all but maybe that's because she doesn't know I exist"— total lies, I know. But Shawn doesn't have to know about the little Umbrella incident— "and so, I'm planning on making my presence known to her."

Shawn looked at me as if I was the stupidest person ever.

"Now now," I chirped, "we all know you love me."

Hearing my sing-song voice he shook his head in disbelief.

"Tell me why I am even friends with you," he said as we opened the door to our hang out place since like forever, the cosy little cafe on Jordan's street.

"Because I'm super awesome and obviously because I need to save your whiny ass every single time."

Shawn rolled his eyes yet again.

"Maybe it's all happening for a reason. Miss I-won't-talk was sent here to bruise your uselessly huge ego."

And even though he was kind of insulting me, I grinned wide.

"Maybe."
